Kyle King
Resuming the position as the Chief Executive Officer of the most-fought-for company in Nashville was a dream come true. I never thought I would be able to accomplish this feat at my age, but here I was, sitting in a board meeting as every member introduced themselves to me.
A few of the executives didn’t hesitate to show their grievances, but I put them in their places as I reminded them who was in charge and why they needed to obey me, or they would be out of the door holding their resumes for whoever wanted to listen to them. I was in the middle of a virtual meeting with one of those unsatisfied executives when the Tessa call came in. I didn’t even think twice as I ended the meeting with an abrupt wave and signed off without waiting for their regular grunts. Immediately after she told me about her problem, I almost booked a flight back to the U.K. I had to call Xavier’s number several times, threaten him, and make a stupid offer for him to get on his feet, drive, and pick up Tessa. I was pacing the room now, waiting for Tessa’s text. God! That woman was making me lose my mind. Ever since our date, she has occasionally responded to my texts, except for today, and has also accepted my gifts by herself instead of sending them to her never-smiling personal assistants, Mercy or Maria. I couldn’t remember her name. I checked my phone again. Her text just came in. Xavier had picked her up, and she was going to call once he dropped her home. I resisted the urge to call her and replied with a simple word: ‘Alright. I already let her know how easily she could control me, and that was enough. If she knew how much I yearned or was becoming attached to her, she might reduce the communication between us. I wasn’t ready for that. The rough creak of the door made me turn. I had almost forgotten my mom was staying overnight due to ‘family time with her son. I knew it was a lie. She hadn’t forgiven me for uprooting her from her chairman’s seat in the company. She hadn’t said anything, but looking at her face as she strolled into my bedroom, I had a feeling she was about to pour everything. ‘I thought you had a meeting with your Planet O executives. Did you guys round up early?’ She asked, sitting on my bed. I sighed. Tessa was going to call any second from now on. ‘Yes, we had little to discuss, and the executive’s wife kept interrupting the meeting. So, I decided to end it early.’ ‘Alright, Kyle. How’s the King’s company, though? A little bird told me you signed a new contract with Leanors Interiors. New money?’ ‘Yes, mom. New money. They are new to the country and want us to help create designs for their new structure. They also want us to install CCTVs and other technological stuff.’ She chuckled. ‘Of course, and you’re going to meet your ex-wife’s company to do that, right? What’s the new name again? Hoplas Technologies. You know, if you had listened to me, you would be the one leading on Fortunes List and not her. You and Ava.’ Of course, Ava. Mum would never stop mentioning Ava or guilt-tripping me for our failed marriage. Also, I am losing my second company to Tessa. I replied, staring at my phone. Tessa just called. ‘I already told you that I couldn’t handle the company after Uncle David left. The debts were a lot, and Tessa’s idea saved me from losing a lot of money. Anyway, I am sure you aren’t here to rub my falls on my back. What do you want?’ She smiled, dropping her hands on her lap. ‘Ava is back. I saw her at the mall with her mom. They weren’t pleased to see me, though, but I was able to use my charm to win them back. She will be here for dinner tomorrow, so be on your best behaviour, son.’ Another missed call from Tessa. I groaned inwardly. How was I going to make this woman leave? I didn’t care about her or Ava's latest update. I already told her we were history. ‘Mom, I don’t care. You can bring her in, and I will be in the library. I have nothing to do with an ex-convict, okay?’ Mom stood up immediately, her lips twitching. ‘Don’t call her that, and don’t you dare use that tone with me. You will sit with her during dinner, and that’s final.’ I laughed. ‘Alright, mom. I need to return to work. Do you want to discuss anything else?’ She glared at me. ‘Dinner by six p.m. Don’t be late, Kyle King.’ I said nothing as she stormed off, shutting the door with a bang. Ava would definitely have that dinner, but I won’t be available. I already made up my mind, and nothing would change it. I dialled Tessa’s number immediately. Hello to peace of mind! ‘Hi. I called several times, but you didn’t pick up. Were you sleeping already?’ She asked, stifling a yawn. I replied, ‘No, I wasn’t. My mom was with me. Are you home already?’ ‘Oh, your mom’ she said—I could feel a bit of coldness in her voice. ‘Yes, I am home already. I am preparing a cup of hot chocolate tea before heading to the bathroom for a hot shower and then hitting the bed. Thanks for tonight, Kyle. I am grateful.’ I laughed. ‘More thanks to Xavier. Let me leave you to enjoy your chocolate tea and shower. Goodnight, Tessa.’ ‘You’re going off already? I thought we could chat about today’s work activities.’ Was she initiating a conversation? Alright, baby steps. I agreed, and we talked till one a.m. I couldn’t remember what we spoke about, but there was a lot of laughter, jokes, and stories. I fell asleep with a huge smile on my face.Geneveive Tessa RobertI applied makeup, did my glossy blonde hair in a bun (I had changed the colour during the weekend), and wore my favourite red long dress with enough lining to reveal my glowing thighs. I doused my body with a new brand of perfume Vee had recommended and wore my ear rings. I smiled at my appearance. This was enough to make a statement at the Roberts Charity Gala. Dad had founded Robert’s foundation after the twins came. He saw it as another way to give to society. He had other NGOs he was affiliated with, but he wanted the one he owned and could invest in without the usual politics.I checked myself again and walked out of the room to check on the kids. They were attending the gala for the first time, and I needed to ensure they were comfortable.‘Hope, are you and your brother ready to attend the event? Your friends would be there, but not all of them, and there will be no games. Just long talks and dancing.’Hope giggled. ‘Momma, we are ready. Nico, you will k
Kyle KingThe library door closed with a gentle click. I looked up, and Ava crossed the room, smiling slyly and wearing a see-through gown. I noticed she wore nothing. Was she trying to seduce me? I scoffed, tapping my slender fingers as she settled on the couch, facing and spreading her legs. She wore no pants either. If only she knew I wasn’t in for her slutty behaviour tonight, she would have thought twice before she entered here. ‘What do you want, Ava?’ I asked when it was evident she wasn’t going to say anything. She smiled, spreading her legs wider. ‘I just came to say hi since you have been avoiding me for three days.’ I shrugged, taking a lazy sip of my wine. ‘ I have my reasons for avoiding you, and I remember warning you to stay away from my library and room. You’re my mother’s guest and not mine. Now, I ask again: What do you want?’She closed her legs, standing up. ‘Come on, Kyle. It’s just the two of us here. Mom won’t know you did anything with me. Don’t you miss all
Geneveive Tessa RobertThe twins' birthday were coming up soon, and my parents were making another grand plan. Bigger and better than last year’s own. Nicholas and Hope had agreed to have a simple party, and they didn’t want any clowns this year. Last year’s own had made Hope cry and Nicholas frightened. Up to date, they still disliked clowns. I almost blamed my parents for their fear, but it wasn't entirely their fault. The clown we hired gave up at the last minute, and James got one of his acquaintances to act as the clown, and the guy failed woefully. He couldn’t even make his balloons look beautiful.I had suggested we do a royalty-themed party since Nicholas always called himself King and Hope believed she was Cinderelli. I had gotten tired of correcting her that the Disney princess’s name was Cinderella, not what she called it, but she refused to listen. She is a stubborn five-year-old
Kyle King‘I told you not to let anyone in except those on the visitor list. Can’t you take simple instructions?’ I asked, staring coldly at Sharon, the new assistant my new-found buddy, Jones at Planet O, had hired. ISharon stammered, ‘I am sorry, sir, but she claimed to be your girlfriend, and before I could stop her, she was in already.’The object of my anger—Ava—laughed, showing her straight, long legs. ‘Calm down, Kyle. She didn’t do anything wrong by allowing me in. I am your girlfriend after all.’I glared darkly at her and refocused my attention on Sharon. ‘Next time she comes in here, you will lose your job. Leave.’She muttered an apology underneath her breath and scrambled out of the office. I would also have a discussion with the security team about Ava. She had been stalking me everywhere since I forced my mom to
Kyle KingI tried to open my eyes, but the pain surging from my head made me close them immediately. There were voices. A familiar one I hadn’t heard in awhile. No. It couldn’t be her. I was probably dreaming, or the blows to my head had done more damage to my brain. I tried to stay awake to listen to the voices, but I slowly lost consciousness.I felt a calm hand on my wrist and slowly opened my eyes. The room was bright, and I squinted to adjust my eyes to the light. There was a face looking expectantly at me. Mom. No, not Mom. She was truly here, and I wasn’t dreaming. Tessa.‘Finally, you decided to wake up. We thought you were enjoying the unconscious stage.’ Tessa said, smiling.I tried to get up, but the pain at my side made me rethink my decision. ‘You’re really here. I thought I was dreaming.’She smiled, holding my hands. ‘Xavier showed up at my office and told me what happened
Geneveive Tessa RobertMy parents had been against me travelling to Nashville with the kids to see Kyle, but I had to stand on my ground and make them understand that I needed to be there in his darkest moments. He was also the father of my children, and it was necessary that I be by his side.Mom had been angry, but she was able to convince Dad to let me go. However, I had to go with one of Dad’s security men. An ex-Navy officer. Mr. Hover. He had an intimidating air around him, and his blank face made people think twice before approaching him. I agreed because he was different with the kids, and they liked him.He also provided extra security because I knew coming to Nashville wasn’t the best idea due to my status, and I added my family’s too.I stared at Kyle as he slept. He looked like an angel, with his dark hair, brown eyes, and chiselled face chiselled in a charming way. I always suspected God took extra time creat
Kyle KingThe cops scribbled in their notes as I retold the incident from the beginning to the end. They stopped me at certain points to get specific details on the environment, and I almost got pissed when they asked about the shadow’s clothing. The attacker had come fast; how could I have gotten what he wore?‘Do you have any suspects on your list? You are the city’s biggest CEO at the moment, and we are certain you would have gotten a lot of threats.’ One of the cops asked. His face reminded me of Homer Simpson.I shook my head. ‘Yeah, the threats are usual things in the business world but are mostly threats. Empty threats. My competitors wouldn’t dare pull a fast one on me because they know it will be bad for them.’
Geneveive Tessa RobertI downed the second glass of red wine and sighed for the fifth time. I should have rejected Xavier’s invitation to the grand opening and just stayed home with the kids. I sent a text to Estella to know if they were asleep. I stared at my screen, waiting for her response, while my mind roamed and focused on a particular curly, dark-haired, gorgeous man. These days, my thoughts are always about him.He must be asleep by now. We had talked earlier today before the cops came. He seemed better, but the doctor hadn’t cleared him to leave until the weekend. He wasn’t pleased. No one would be happy staying in the hospital for one month and one week. He hated not doing anything or being vulnerable. I comforted him, and he relaxed a bit. He couldn’t wait to be out and take over his CEO role. He didn’t say it though, but I could see in his eyes each passing day as Xavier told him eve
