Geneveive Tessa Robert
I glanced at the table across the room, and my eyes settled on the figure who was the cause of my distraction. Kyle King. I thought he was kidding when he informed me a few days ago that he was in the United Kingdom. Seeing him now, I knew I should have taken his words seriously and prepared my body and myself for his reappearance in my life. I watched him take a glass of juice while his focus remained on the magazine he was reading. He was oblivious to his environment or me watching him. Xavier was trying to capture his attention, but he said nothing and continued reading. Whatever was in the magazine must be extremely serious. A deep, masculine voice called me. My lunch date is Sam. I had completely forgotten about him. Mum had hooked me up with him because she was tired of seeing the faraway look on myself. ‘Just for now, okay? Get to know him and have adult conversations with him. You aren’t ready to accept Kyle back, so stop holding yourself back from meeting people,’ she’d said as she surpervised my dressing. It was Saturday. It wasn't my ideal day for a date, but Mom wasn’t bothered. ‘What if he bores me with business talks?’ I asked, squeezing my face. I knew she was looking out for me, but a date with one of her circle’s sons wasn’t welcoming to me. She sighed. ‘It’s a lunch date and not a marriage proposal. If he bores you, figure something that would lighten the table.’If only she knew that I lost interest in the date after ten minutes. Sam was the typical arrogant businessman who only knew how to boast about his contracts and the profits he made daily.
I smiled, focusing on him. ‘I am sorry. I thought I saw someone I knew. You were saying?’ Sam smiled, taking my hands. ‘I was wondering if we could do this again. Not during the weekend, though, but Friday next week? Same place and time. I will do the booking.’ Nice. He really thought I would love to sit down on another boring date with him. Not happening ever again. ‘I enjoyed my time with you, Sam, but I don’t think I would love to repeat this. You’re not my type. I am sorry.’ I said, not minding my straight-forwardness. I wasn’t trained to beat around the bush, so I continued. ‘Throughout our lunch, you kept talking about business and interrupting me when I wanted to contribute something. You took charge of my order, and now, on another date, you’re taking charge? You can’t boss me around, dear.’ His face flushed, his hands in a fist. ‘I didn’t know you didn’t like to be treated like a lady, Geneveive. It’s true what they say about you. Proud and rude! I thought I could tame you; that’s why I accepted this date offer, but I see you are not worth it. Forget the fact that you’re wealthy; you are still not worth my efforts!’ I laughed, not minding his words. ‘I can see you’re pained, Sam. Anyway, this was a mistake. Enjoy the rest of your Saturday.’ He grabbed my hand roughly, yelling. ‘You can’t leave yet; I am not done talking!’ ‘Let me go! You’re causing a scene, Sam. Don’t let me call your mom and report you, okay?’ I breathed harshly, slowly removing my hand from his grip. He adjusted his suit and stood up. ‘Enjoy the rest of the evening, and since you’re so wealthy, take care of the bills, please.’ I shook my head, steadying my breath. The fool! I was going to give mom a piece of my mind once i return home. How dare she allow me to go on a date with a despicable and angry fellow? I stared at my wrist. It was red. The fool! I counted the bills and placed them on the menu. It was more than I expected. Sam had ordered one of their expensive wines to show off, obviously, and I suspected he never planned on paying for it. Angry, stingy, and an opportunist. ‘Hi… Can I join you, Tessa?’ A familiar voice interrupted my reverie. The scent hit me before I looked up at her face. Kyle King. I had forgotten for a minute that he was here and must have witnessed that fool’s drama. He had also caught me red-handed!
I cleared my throat, smiling widely. ‘Yes, please. I got your text. I am sorry I didn’t reply. I have been so busy with a lot of activities.’
He nodded. ‘I know you have been busy for a month and twenty-five days now. It’s two days until Christmas, so I will forgive you all. How are you and the kids?’ I shrugged—I wasn’t expecting his calm response. ‘We’re doing great. They miss you.’ ‘They do? Wow. I missed them too. Hold on, though. What’s up with that dude? I wanted to intervene, but you settled it quite well.’ ‘Oh, Sam? He is nobody. Just an angry man who can’t take no for an answer. I don’t want to talk about it, please.’ He nodded, smiling. ‘Alright. I hope he didn’t hurt you, though?’ I stared at my red wrist. ‘Just my wrist, but I will be fine once I place some ice blocks on it.’ He took my wrist, swearing immediately. ‘That spineless fool! Give me his full name, and I will call my men to search for him and give him the punishment he deserves.’ I laughed, enjoying his alpha side. ‘It’s alright, Kyle. He’s not worth it. Do you want to see the kids? They’re at my mom’s place.’ ‘Yes, Yes. I would love to. Can we go now?’ He asked eagerly, his eyes shining. I stood up and said, ‘Let’s go. I am really sorry for the silent treatment once again. I have no excuse for what I did.’ He waved it off. ‘It’s fine, Tessa. I deserved it and more. I shouldn’t have harrassed you with a lot of calls and messages. It’s not like you’re my wife or girlfriend.’ I didn’t know why my heart thumped faster, but I felt his words. He was no longer thinking of me in that affectionate way. Shouldn’t I be happy? His next words made me review my thoughts. ‘Tessa, I know it’s too early, but I wish we could go on a date when you’re ready. I have really missed you.’ I bit my bottom lip, saying nothing. And maybe he still thought about me in an affectionate way.Kyle King‘Here we are, Kyle. They’re probably at the swimming pool learning a new skill or reading. James always ensures they are never bored, whenever they are.’ Tessa said, switching off the car.I nodded, talking in the magnificent structure of her father’s house. It was situated on a private estate, and there were more houses than expected to be here. I stared at her again. She was talking about the kids' favourite sports and wondering if it would be great to allow Nicholas to join his school football team next year. She wanted my opinion on Nicholas. Change, is this you?‘Yeah, I think it will be great if he joins the soccer team. He’s a natural, and James has been training him pretty well.’ I replied, following her into the house. I paused, looking at the view. Okay, I wasn’t expecting Robert’s house to be stunning! Extremely stunning. There was beautiful artwork of Tessa and the kids covering the wall of the living room. It was beautiful.‘Did you draw this?’ I asked, walking
Geneveive Tessa RobertIt was Friday afternoon. The wind blew harshly, and I drew my coat together. Tonight was our Thanksgiving dinner, and the next day was Christmas. Stores and supermarkets were already decorated, and discounts were flying everywhere. I had already gotten the kids’s Christmas presents, which were tucked in my wardrobe. The Christmas tree was overly decorated due to the kids' curiosities, and the house was designed to fulfill the righteousness of the Christmas spirit. We were good to go. I stopped before the double doors of Nath’s Bakery. Chef Santiago had promised us one of his signature chocolate cakes, but at the last minute, a family emergency came in, and the plans changed. Estella was already in Arizona enjoying the Christmas holiday, and I couldn’t bake to save my life. I double-checked the order and pick-up date to be certain that I wasn’t missing anything, and I stepped in.‘Hi, I am here to pick up my order, Miss Geneveive Robert. I called earlier today.’
Kyle King I took her in; she had changed her hair colour to raven black with bouncy curls. Her symmetrical face glowed under the bulb light, and her lips were as lucious as usual. Even the sweat beads building on her face didn't do her beauty enough justice. Tessa was what the world defined as a natural beauty. I tried to imagine how her backside would look now, but I caught myself and remembered I wasn’t supposed to be her exquisite building, salivating like a hungry dog. She hadn’t said since the housekeeper offered me a seat, but I refused and joined her in the kitchen. The housekeeper, Mrs. Hudson, tried to make the room lively, but after Tessa shot her one of her deadly looks, she kept quiet. ‘Why are you here, Kyle? I thought I told you once that you couldn’t come here with my permission, and you agreed to it?’ she said, dropping her apron. ‘Look, I have a family dinner to set up, and I am yet to get the pumpkin pie taste to perfection. Just say what you want, and please lea
Geneveive Tessa RobertThe Christmas celebration was beautiful. It wasn’t the first with my family, but the first with Kyle since we divorced. The kids had strangely gotten acquainted with him, and as much as I didn’t want that to happen, it did.I hadn’t seen them so happy in years, and somehow, I felt they knew that Kyle was their father. Mom believes it’s because they have another male figure in their lives other than James and my dad. I was glad they were happy with him, though, because revealing he was their dad later would be an easy process. Hopefully. He had suggested I inform them next year, but I was still unsure about his stance in my life. I have forgiven him, but did I want him back in my life as a husband or just a friend?I sighed, sipping my orange juice. The matter of the heart was complicated. No matter how many times I thought about my relationship with Kyle, I always ended up not deciding on anything because I was still unsure of my feelings. Some days, I thought a
Kyle KingShe had accepted my date offer and also agreed to eat at Charles’ Lounge. However, I hadn’t expected that she would ask me to pick her up. It was strange, but I agreed. All the times we had gone out, she had always rejected my offer to pick her up. I used to suspect that it was because I was using a rented Jeep. I couldn’t fly mine from Nashville, and buying one here when I wasn’t sure of my movements most of the time would be a bad investment.I confronted her once about it, and she denied my suspicion. According to her, she didn’t want to give her children or family the idea that we were an item. I didn’t believe her.I stopped in front of her house and dialled her number. She picked up after the second dial.Hi. I will be out in five minutes. Please, hold on.I replied with a thumbs up and checked the Jeep again. I had taken extra care to clean the inside and ensured the air freshener was her favourite. I checked my outfit again—a white shirt, black trousers, and thirty t
Geneveive Tessa RobertI completed the last piece of paperwork on my desk and gave myself a pat on the back. It had been a long day, with several clients popping in with difficult requests. I turned down most of them and stuck with ones whose job requests required streamlined processes.I glanced at the wall clock. It was almost nine o’clock. Thankfully, the kids were still with my parents, enjoying the new year’s celebration before school resumed, so there was no one waiting for me at home. I reviewed the last email on my laptop and switched it off. A note captured my attention. ‘Day four apology: Never say never. I took it, read it again, and kept it in my drawer. Kyle had sent the note with a basket of chocolate packs and Chinese food, which were sitting in my stomach now. He had resumed his lunch surprise packages, and strangely, I loved them.My relationship with Kyle was a hot and cold one. I had finally told him how I felt, and instead of me not keeping him expectant, I told h
Kyle KingResuming the position as the Chief Executive Officer of the most-fought-for company in Nashville was a dream come true. I never thought I would be able to accomplish this feat at my age, but here I was, sitting in a board meeting as every member introduced themselves to me. A few of the executives didn’t hesitate to show their grievances, but I put them in their places as I reminded them who was in charge and why they needed to obey me, or they would be out of the door holding their resumes for whoever wanted to listen to them.I was in the middle of a virtual meeting with one of those unsatisfied executives when the Tessa call came in. I didn’t even think twice as I ended the meeting with an abrupt wave and signed off without waiting for their regular grunts. Immediately after she told me about her problem, I almost booked a flight back to the U.K.I had to call Xavier’s number several times, threaten him, and make a stupid offer for him to get on his feet, drive, and pic
Geneveive Tessa RobertI applied makeup, did my glossy blonde hair in a bun (I had changed the colour during the weekend), and wore my favourite red long dress with enough lining to reveal my glowing thighs. I doused my body with a new brand of perfume Vee had recommended and wore my ear rings. I smiled at my appearance. This was enough to make a statement at the Roberts Charity Gala. Dad had founded Robert’s foundation after the twins came. He saw it as another way to give to society. He had other NGOs he was affiliated with, but he wanted the one he owned and could invest in without the usual politics.I checked myself again and walked out of the room to check on the kids. They were attending the gala for the first time, and I needed to ensure they were comfortable.‘Hope, are you and your brother ready to attend the event? Your friends would be there, but not all of them, and there will be no games. Just long talks and dancing.’Hope giggled. ‘Momma, we are ready. Nico, you will k
