Lila’s POV
The next day at the clinic I just went on with my normal routine and handling appointments. I was grateful for the normalcy, given the whirlwind of confusion that had taken over my life lately. The more I thought about what I overheard at the café—the talk of werewolves, Alphas, packs—the more I questioned my sanity. Maybe I had imagined it, maybe my mind was playing tricks on me, but deep down, I knew the truth.
There was something otherworldly happening in Silverwood.
I tried to focus on the animals, on their simple needs and innocent lives. They weren’t bogged down by complicated things like pack rivalries or supernatural beings. I envied them for that.
But my mind kept drifting back to Ethan. Why had he and Marcus been talking about me? What made me so important in all of this? And then, of course, there was the matter of Ethan being a werewolf, which I dont know if it really true. I had seen enough strange things to start believing in the impossible, but I still struggled to wrap my head around it.
It didn’t help that I kept running into him. Every time I stepped outside or headed into town, there he was—like a shadow, always nearby. Our paths seemed to cross too often for it to be a coincidence.
By late afternoon, I was mentally exhausted. I had just finished checking on a group of sickly raccoons that had been brought in earlier in the week, their condition deteriorating faster than expected. Whatever illness was spreading through the local wildlife, it wasn’t normal. I couldn’t shake the feeling that it was connected to Ethan and his pack, he was talking about somehow.
I was closing up the clinic when my phone buzzed in my pocket. The screen lit up with a message from Sarah, my assistant, reminding me that she had a family emergency and wouldn’t be coming in tomorrow. Great. One more thing to worry about.
With a sigh, I locked the door and started walking down the street toward my house, the crisp evening air making me shiver. The sun was beginning to set, casting long shadows over the town, and a strange tension seemed to hang in the air. Everything felt… off.
Halfway home, I heard footsteps behind me. They were faint but unmistakable. My instincts screamed at me to keep walking, to act like nothing was wrong. But my pulse quickened, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that someone was watching me.
I glanced over my shoulder, but the street was empty. Still, the sensation lingered—a prickling at the back of my neck, like unseen eyes were following my every move.
I quickened my pace, clutching my bag a little tighter. Maybe it was just paranoia. Or maybe it was something more sinister. After all, with the things I’d overheard, nothing seemed impossible anymore.
The sound of a car engine suddenly roared behind me, snapping me out of my thoughts. I barely had time to react before a black SUV screeched around the corner, speeding down the street toward me. I froze, my mind racing as the headlights blinded me.
Before I could think, the SUV skidded to a stop in front of me, blocking my path. Two men jumped out, dressed in dark clothes, their faces covered by hoods. Panic surged through me as they moved toward me with deliberate, menacing intent.
“who are you- What—what do you want?” I stammered, my voice shaking. I took a step back, but the men closed in, leaving me nowhere to go.
One of them grinned, a flash of teeth beneath his hood. “We just want to talk.”
“Talk?” My heart was hammering in my chest. “About what?”
Before they could answer, another sound cut through the tension—the deep, rumbling growl of an animal. It was low and dangerous, and it sent a chill down my spine.
I turned to see Ethan standing in the shadows, his eyes glowing a faint gold, muscles tense as he took a step forward. He wasn’t alone. Marcus was with him, and behind them, several other men—members of his suppose pack, if i am not mistaken —emerged from the dark, their presence both reassuring and terrifying.
The men who had been advancing on me hesitated, their eyes darting between Ethan and his pack. “This isn’t your fight, Blackwood,” one of them snarled.
Ethan didn’t say a word. He just moved closer, his growl growing louder. His eyes locked on the men, and I could feel the barely contained fury radiating off him.
One of the men cursed under his breath. “We’ll be back,” he spat before turning and bolting toward the SUV. His companion followed suit, and within seconds, the car roared to life again and sped off into the night, leaving a cloud of dust in its wake.
I stood frozen in place, my body trembling with a mix of fear and adrenaline. Ethan was still watching the SUV disappear into the distance, his hands clenched into fists at his sides. His pack stayed close, their eyes scanning the surroundings, as if expecting more trouble.
After what felt like an eternity, Ethan turned to me, his eyes no longer glowing but still sharp with intensity. “Are you okay?”
I nodded, though I wasn’t sure if I was. “Who were they?”
“They’re Dominic’s men,” Ethan said quietly, his voice laced with anger. “Spies. Kane’s been sending them into town, testing our defenses.”
“Dominic Kane?” I asked, remembering the name from the café conversation and also I remembered that he knew came to my clinic and I can't forget my experience with him. His name alone screams trouble. "The one that came to my clinic weeks ago" I managed to ask
Ethan’s jaw tightened. “Yeah. He’s the one. He is my rival, He’s been trying to expand his territory, and Silverwood is in his sights.”
My mind was spinning, trying to make sense of everything. Werewolves, rival packs, spies—it felt like I had stumbled into some sort of supernatural war. “What does he want with me?”
Ethan hesitated, his eyes softening slightly as he looked at me. “I don’t know yet. But you’re involved now, Lila, whether you like it or not.”
Before I could respond, something moved in the shadows nearby—a flash of movement that made my stomach drop. One of Ethan’s pack members turned just in time to see a figure dart out from behind a tree.
Suddenly, all hell broke loose.
A group of men, If I am not mistaken more of Dominic’s spies, surged out from the darkness, attacking Ethan’s and the men that came along with him with brutal force. It was chaos—growls, shouts, and the sound of fists meeting flesh filled the air as the fight erupted around me.
I stumbled back, trying to stay out of the way, but I was caught in the middle of it. One of the spies lunged at me, and I screamed, ducking just in time to avoid a blow to my head. I scrambled to my feet, my heart pounding as I searched for a way out.
And then, in the midst of the chaos, I saw something that made my blood run cold.
Ethan.
He stood at the center of the fight, his body tense, eyes blazing with that supernatural glow. And then, before my very eyes, he began to change.
His muscles rippled, his body contorting in ways that defied human logic. His clothes tore as his limbs elongated, fur sprouting from his skin. I watched in stunned horror as Ethan transformed, his human form disappearing, replaced by something far more primal.
A wolf. A massive, black wolf with golden eyes that shone like fire.
My breath caught in my throat, and I stumbled back, my mind struggling to process what I was seeing. Ethan… was a wolf. A werewolf. It wasn’t just a story or a legend. It was real, and it was happening right in front of me.
The wolf—Ethan—let out a deafening growl, baring his sharp teeth at the intruders. His pack fought alongside him, some of them transforming as well, their forms shifting from man to beast in a matter of seconds.
The spies, realizing they were outmatched, retreated, disappearing into the night as quickly as they had come.
I stood frozen, my heart racing, my mind a whirlwind of confusion and fear. Ethan—the man I had been drawn to, the man who had been protecting me—wasn’t just a man. He was a werewolf. And now I was part of a world I had never believed existed.
The fight was over, but nothing felt normal anymore.

Lila’s POVI couldn’t stop shaking. My breath came in shallow gasps, and my knees felt weak as I stared at Ethan—or whatever he had become. The giant black wolf stood in front of me, his golden eyes locked onto mine. I could still see him in there, beneath the fur and muscle, but it didn’t change the fact that I had just witnessed something impossible.Everything around me was a blur—the distant shouts of his pack chasing away the intruders, the soft rustling of the trees in the night breeze. All I could focus on was the wolf. My mind tried to grasp it, to make sense of the fact that this creature standing just a few feet away was Ethan.“Lila…” Ethan’s voice in my head startled me. It wasn’t a spoken word, more like a thought that somehow drifted into my mind. I gasped, taking a shaky step backward. The wolf took a step forward, and I instinctively recoiled.“No… no, stay back,” I stammered, my voice trembling. My entire body was in fight-or-flight mode, and I was leaning heavily tow
Lila’s POVI woke up with the faintest ache in my chest, a constant reminder of the mark Ethan had said was connected to something ancient, something powerful. My mind was still racing from everything that had happened the night before—Ethan’s transformation, the mark on my body, and the terrifying revelation that I was somehow tied to it all.I had barely slept. Every time I closed my eyes, all I could see was the glowing symbol on my side, burning into my skin like a brand. I didn’t know what it meant, but the look on Ethan’s face had told me enough—it wasn’t good.Sitting on the edge of my bed, I rubbed my temples and tried to steady my breathing. I didn’t have the luxury of falling apart. Not when everything was falling apart around me.As if on cue, my phone buzzed on the nightstand, jolting me out of my thoughts. It was a text from Ethan.**We need to talk. Meet me at the cabin.**I stared at the message, my heart pounding. There was no avoiding this anymore. Ethan was right—I w
Lila’s POVWhen Ethan told me I had to train, I laughed in his face. Not because I didn’t believe him—on the contrary, I believed him all too well. After what happened at the cabin, there was no denying that something powerful, something dangerous, was lurking beneath my skin. But me? Training? It felt like a joke. I was just a vet, someone who patched up animals and calmed anxious owners. Not someone who knew how to wield supernatural power without blowing up the nearest tree… or, worse, the nearest person. But Ethan was serious. He stood there, arms crossed over his broad chest, jaw set in that unyielding way of his, as if my sarcastic laugh meant nothing to him.“You need control,” he said. “Without it, you’re a danger to yourself. And to everyone around you.”I swallowed hard, guilt bubbling up in my stomach as I glanced at the fading cut on his arm. It had already started to heal, thanks to his werewolf genes, but the sight of the blood was burned into my memory. I had done that
Ethan’s POVThe air inside Elena’s cabin was thick with the scent of sage and something else—something ancient that I couldn’t quite place. It was quiet except for the occasional crackle of the fire in the stone hearth. I had been here plenty of times before, but tonight, something felt different. There was a tension that clung to the air, a heaviness that settled deep in my chest.I stood by the window, looking out at the dark forest that surrounded the cabin. The trees seemed to press in closer than usual, their shadows long and foreboding. It felt like they were waiting for something. Or maybe someone.“Elena,” I called, my voice low but firm. “We need answers.”Behind me, I heard the soft shuffle of Elena Grey’s bare feet against the wooden floor. She moved slowly, as if weighed down by the gravity of what she had to say. I turned to face her, watching as she approached the small altar at the center of the room. The firelight cast eerie shadows across her face, making her look old
Ethan’s POVThe sun was barely peeking over the treetops when I arrived back at the pack house. My mind was still racing after the conversation with Elena, her prophecy playing on a loop in my head: *a great sacrifice, a betrayal from within.* The heaviness of it was suffocating, but I couldn’t afford to show it. Not now, not ever.As I walked through the front door, the smell of coffee hit me, and the usual chatter of the morning buzzed in the air. The pack wolves were already gathering, talking in low tones, but the tension was palpable. I could feel it—like an itch beneath the skin—something was off.Marcus was at the center of it. His deep voice carried across the room, and I could hear the edge in it. He was pacing near the windows, arms crossed, his jaw tight as he spoke with one of the younger wolves, Cole. The two of them looked… heated.I narrowed my eyes, my instincts bristling. Marcus had been acting strange lately, distant. More than once, I’d caught him staring off into t
Ethan’s POVThe night air was sharp and unsettling as Lila and I decided to take another routine home. I waited for her to close the clinic and we walk together. We were talking and we didn't know when we wondered into the forest. we made our way through the dense woods, the darkness closing in around us. Lila walked beside me, her eyes scanning every shadow, every rustle of leaves. She was silent, her usual calm replaced with a simmering tension that made my instincts flare. Neither of us knew what to expect—or even where exactly we were going.I had a flashlight, but it only pierced a fraction of the night. Lila's POVI didn't expect to wake up in a state of dread, yet here I was, lying wide-eyed and tense in bed, replaying every moment from last night. The dark forest, the monstrous creature… and that cursed, ancient ruin. My heart hadn’t stopped racing since I’d left Ethan standing there to face down whatever that thing was. I’d wanted to stay and help, but he’d given me no choice, pushing me forward until I had no choice but to run.A gentle knock on my bedroom door interrupted my thoughts, and I sat up, brushing the hair from my face. Lila's POVThe past few days had been surreal, and if I was honest with myself, terrifying. The moment I thought I’d gotten a handle on things, something new would pull me back into the unknown. And now, it seemed the unknown had a face. Nathan Cross.I’d known his name only because Ethan had mentioned him as a spy—a man Dominic had planted in Silverwood, a shadow in the corner watching every move we made. I never imagined he’d turn around, though, and certainly not for reasons that made sense to me. Lila's POVThe air in the room felt suffocating after Marcus’s revelation. Fenris. The first werewolf. Even the name carried an ominous weight, like saying it aloud would summon him. Ethan was already barking orders, his alpha presence commanding the room. Meanwhile, I stood rooted to the spot, my mind racing.I wasn’t ready for this. The pack’s training area buzzed with tense energy, everyone sharpening their skills, memorizing plans, and exchanging nervous glances. Most of them avoided looking at me directly, unsure, no doubt, what to make of the human girl suddenly thrust into their supernatural world, although now i knew i was no longer a normal human girl, not with everything happening lately. I did my best to ignore the stares, focusing instead on practicing a new control technique Ethan had shown me to rein in the flickering energy c
Ethan’s POV The weight of Marcus’s accusations hadn’t lifted since the night of the fight. His words haunted me, echoing in my mind every time I closed my eyes. My father’s legacy was a shadow I’d always carried, but now it felt heavier, darker, and more dangerous than ever. Lila deserved the truth, and I couldn’t avoid it any longer. She was part of this now, whether she wanted to be or not. The bond we shared was undeniable, see that she fated to be me forever, and if I didn’t come clean, it would only fester between us like an open wound. As I stumbled into the night air, the chill hit me like a slap, clearing my head enough to take stock of my surroundings. The night was still, save for the sounds of the struggle in the cabin, and the faint rustling of leaves as other figures approached.Lila’s voice called out softly from the shadows, and I turned, finding her there, her face etched with worry. She must have doubled back after reaching safety with Nathan, unwilling to leave
Ethan’s POVThe weight of the night settled heavy on my shoulders as I watched Lila and Nathan disappear into the shadows of the forest, my heart beating out a primal rhythm that urged me to go after them, to make sure they were truly safe. But Dominic was still here, standing in the half-lit cabin, his smirk as sharp as a blade. There was no walking away, not until this was over.He chuckled, low and mocking, his eyes shining with that disturbing gleam that hinted at all the twisted thoughts lurking behind them. “Sending her off without you, Blackwood? Don’t tell me you’re getting soft.”“You crossed a line, Dominic. Threatening her is going to cost you,” I spat back, feeling the heat rise in my chest, my muscles tensed and ready. This man had taken so much already—my father’s life, the safety of my pack. He wouldn’t get Lila, too.Dominic’s grin only widened, amused as he took a slow step closer. “She doesn’t even know half of what you’ve done to put her at risk, does she?”I wasn’t
Lila’s POVThe moment Ethan and I decided to go after Nathan, it felt as if a ticking clock had started. Every second wasted was a moment Nathan might not have, a chance Dominic could exploit. The plan itself was shaky at best—but we couldn’t afford to wait any longer. As I pulled my jacket tighter against the chill of the night air, I glanced over at Ethan. His expression was grim, eyes focused on the dark stretch of forest ahead. I could feel the tension radiating off him; this wasn’t just a rescue mission to him—it was personal. Dominic’s web was closing in on his pack, his home, and now Nathan, who had risked everything to help us.“Are you sure about this?” Ethan asked, glancing my way with a flicker of hesitation.I nodded, swallowing back my nerves. “Nathan trusted us enough to reach out. We owe it to him.”His hand found mine for a moment, grounding me in his steady grip. “Stay close to me. Dominic’s spies could be anywhere, and he won’t hesitate to turn this against us.”I no
