Lila's POV
I had never been one to believe in fate, destiny, or any of those made-up ancient stories that supposedly guide people toward their true paths. Life seemed more like a series of random events, chaotic and out of control. But ever since the night that massive wolf showed up at my clinic, it felt like the universe had decided to involve me in something much bigger than I was ready for.
That wolf, with its intense eyes and unnatural presence, wasn’t just some wild animal. Something about that encounter gnawed at me. And then there was Ethan Blackwood, the man who showed up right when I needed help. Our paths kept crossing, and each time, it was like the universe was nudging us closer together. Whether I wanted it or not.
Today was no different.
I had gone to the local café for my usual cup of tea, needing a break from work. The moment I walked in, my eyes were drawn to him. Ethan sat in the corner, talking quietly with Marcus. I tried to ignore him, not wanting to appear like some lovesick teenager who couldn’t stop staring at the handsome guy at school. But damn it, he was hard to ignore.
His presence was magnetic—intense in a way that made the rest of the world fade into the background. I wasn’t sure what it was about him that drew me in. Maybe it was his quiet strength or the way he seemed to carry the weight of the world on his broad shoulders. Or maybe it was the fact that every time our eyes met, I felt a flicker of something I couldn’t explain.
I quickly turned away and found a table in the opposite corner, trying to focus on anything other than Ethan. It didn’t work. My mind kept drifting back to him, to the strange events that seemed to surround me. The illness in the animals, the mysterious symbol on my door, and the way my dreams had become… odd lately. It all connected to something, but what was it.
As I stirred sugar into my tea, I noticed Ethan rise from his seat. He was heading toward the counter, leaving Marcus at the table. My curiosity got the better of me. What could they possibly be talking about so secretively? And why did it feel like every time I saw Ethan, i just wanted to be close to him? Why?
I glanced around the café. It was mostly empty, except for a couple of elderly women chatting near the window and a man reading a newspaper at the bar. No one was paying me any attention. I bit my lip, debating whether I should do it. And then, without fully thinking it through, I made my decision.
I picked up my tea, trying to act casual as I wandered closer to where Marcus sat. I pretended to be looking for something in my bag as I positioned myself near the wall, just within earshot. It wasn’t the most subtle move, but I had to know what was going on.
Marcus leaned in closer to the table, his voice low but clear enough for me to hear.
“We need to act soon, Ethan,” he said, his tone urgent. “Dominic isn’t backing down. He’s growing bolder by the day, and the pack’s getting restless. If we don’t make a move, he will.”
Ethan’s deep voice responded, quieter than Marcus’s but full of authority. “I know. But we can’t rush into this. Kane’s playing a long game, and we need to be careful. If we act too soon, we risk exposing the pack to even greater danger.”
I frowned, leaning in slightly closer. Pack? Danger? Were they talking about a business deal gone wrong or something more? Something felt off. My gut churned with unease.
Marcus’s voice grew sharper. “We can’t afford to wait much longer. The wolves are getting sick. The pack is starting to doubt—"
Ethan cut him off. “I won’t risk their lives. We’ll deal with Kane, but on my terms.”
Wolves? Pack? My head spun as I tried to make sense of what I was hearing. I must’ve misheard. They couldn’t possibly be talking about actual wolves, could they?
And then Ethan’s next words chilled me to the bone.
“I’ll protect them, Marcus. That’s my responsibility as Alpha. But we need to be smart. If Kane knows we’re onto him, he’ll strike first, and that could mean the end for the Silverwood pack.”
Alpha? The word hit me like a punch to the gut. I had heard the term before in reference to wolves, but this was different. Ethan wasn’t talking about some wild animal pack. He was talking about people. His people. And he wasn’t just a leader—he was their Alpha.
I clutched my tea cup, my hand trembling slightly. Werewolves. They were talking about werewolves.
Suddenly, everything started to make a strange kind of sense—the strange behavior in the animals, the illness that seemed to be spreading, and the way Ethan always seemed so… primal. It wasn’t just his intense personality. He was a werewolf.
Is he?
Are werewolves really real?
I felt like the ground beneath me had shifted. I should’ve been terrified, but instead, I was intrigued. This wasn’t just some local legend or fairy tale. This was real. Ethan was real. And if he was an Alpha… did that mean there were others?
I took a shaky breath, trying to process what I had just overheard. My mind raced with questions, but I couldn’t ask them here. Not now.
I was about to slip away when Marcus spoke again, his tone more cautious this time. “And what about the girl? Lila? Are you sure we can trust her?”
My heart leaped into my throat, and I froze in place. **They were talking about me.**
Ethan’s reply was low, almost too quiet to hear. “I don’t know yet. There’s something about her… something I can’t quite figure out. But I don’t think she’s involved with Kane.”
I clenched my fists, a mixture of confusion and frustration swirling inside me. Why were they talking about me? What did I have to do with any of this? I hadn’t done anything to earn their suspicion—except maybe be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“I’ll keep an eye on her,” Ethan added. “But she’s not our enemy. I’m sure of that.”
I felt a flicker of relief at his words, but it was quickly overshadowed by a wave of uncertainty. I had stumbled into something much bigger than I had ever imagined, and now, I was tangled up in a world I didn’t understand. Werewolves. Pack rivalries. Threats from an Alpha named Dominic Kane. And somehow, I was in the middle of it all.
Before I could gather myself, Ethan’s voice grew louder, signaling the end of their conversation. “We’ll meet again tomorrow night. Keep the pack on high alert.”
I took that as my cue to leave. Heart pounding, I slipped out of the café as quickly as I could, careful not to draw any attention to myself. My mind was racing, and I needed to think, to process what I had just learned.
As I stepped into the cool evening air, the reality of what I had overheard started to sink in. Ethan and Marcus were werewolves. They were part of a pack, and they were in danger. And for some reason, I was part of it now, too.
But how?
Somewhere in my gut tells me. I am somehow involved
I walked down the street, my thoughts swirling in a hundred different directions. I had so many questions—questions I wasn’t sure I wanted answers to. But one thing was clear: I couldn’t ignore this any longer. My life had changed, whether I liked it or not, and Ethan Blackwood was at the center of it.
I was pulled deeper into his world with every step I took, and there was no turning back now.
Lila’s POVThe next day at the clinic I just went on with my normal routine and handling appointments. I was grateful for the normalcy, given the whirlwind of confusion that had taken over my life lately. The more I thought about what I overheard at the café—the talk of werewolves, Alphas, packs—the more I questioned my sanity. Maybe I had imagined it, maybe my mind was playing tricks on me, but deep down, I knew the truth. There was something otherworldly happening in Silverwood.I tried to focus on the animals, on their simple needs and innocent lives. They weren’t bogged down by complicated things like pack rivalries or supernatural beings. I envied them for that. But my mind kept drifting back to Ethan. Why had he and Marcus been talking about me? What made me so important in all of this? And then, of course, there was the matter of Ethan being a werewolf, which I dont know if it really true. I had seen enough strange things to start believing in the impossible, but I still strugg
Lila’s POVI couldn’t stop shaking. My breath came in shallow gasps, and my knees felt weak as I stared at Ethan—or whatever he had become. The giant black wolf stood in front of me, his golden eyes locked onto mine. I could still see him in there, beneath the fur and muscle, but it didn’t change the fact that I had just witnessed something impossible.Everything around me was a blur—the distant shouts of his pack chasing away the intruders, the soft rustling of the trees in the night breeze. All I could focus on was the wolf. My mind tried to grasp it, to make sense of the fact that this creature standing just a few feet away was Ethan.“Lila…” Ethan’s voice in my head startled me. It wasn’t a spoken word, more like a thought that somehow drifted into my mind. I gasped, taking a shaky step backward. The wolf took a step forward, and I instinctively recoiled.“No… no, stay back,” I stammered, my voice trembling. My entire body was in fight-or-flight mode, and I was leaning heavily tow
Lila’s POVI woke up with the faintest ache in my chest, a constant reminder of the mark Ethan had said was connected to something ancient, something powerful. My mind was still racing from everything that had happened the night before—Ethan’s transformation, the mark on my body, and the terrifying revelation that I was somehow tied to it all.I had barely slept. Every time I closed my eyes, all I could see was the glowing symbol on my side, burning into my skin like a brand. I didn’t know what it meant, but the look on Ethan’s face had told me enough—it wasn’t good.Sitting on the edge of my bed, I rubbed my temples and tried to steady my breathing. I didn’t have the luxury of falling apart. Not when everything was falling apart around me.As if on cue, my phone buzzed on the nightstand, jolting me out of my thoughts. It was a text from Ethan.**We need to talk. Meet me at the cabin.**I stared at the message, my heart pounding. There was no avoiding this anymore. Ethan was right—I w
Lila’s POVWhen Ethan told me I had to train, I laughed in his face. Not because I didn’t believe him—on the contrary, I believed him all too well. After what happened at the cabin, there was no denying that something powerful, something dangerous, was lurking beneath my skin. But me? Training? It felt like a joke. I was just a vet, someone who patched up animals and calmed anxious owners. Not someone who knew how to wield supernatural power without blowing up the nearest tree… or, worse, the nearest person. But Ethan was serious. He stood there, arms crossed over his broad chest, jaw set in that unyielding way of his, as if my sarcastic laugh meant nothing to him.“You need control,” he said. “Without it, you’re a danger to yourself. And to everyone around you.”I swallowed hard, guilt bubbling up in my stomach as I glanced at the fading cut on his arm. It had already started to heal, thanks to his werewolf genes, but the sight of the blood was burned into my memory. I had done that
Ethan’s POVThe air inside Elena’s cabin was thick with the scent of sage and something else—something ancient that I couldn’t quite place. It was quiet except for the occasional crackle of the fire in the stone hearth. I had been here plenty of times before, but tonight, something felt different. There was a tension that clung to the air, a heaviness that settled deep in my chest.I stood by the window, looking out at the dark forest that surrounded the cabin. The trees seemed to press in closer than usual, their shadows long and foreboding. It felt like they were waiting for something. Or maybe someone.“Elena,” I called, my voice low but firm. “We need answers.”Behind me, I heard the soft shuffle of Elena Grey’s bare feet against the wooden floor. She moved slowly, as if weighed down by the gravity of what she had to say. I turned to face her, watching as she approached the small altar at the center of the room. The firelight cast eerie shadows across her face, making her look old
Ethan’s POVThe sun was barely peeking over the treetops when I arrived back at the pack house. My mind was still racing after the conversation with Elena, her prophecy playing on a loop in my head: *a great sacrifice, a betrayal from within.* The heaviness of it was suffocating, but I couldn’t afford to show it. Not now, not ever.As I walked through the front door, the smell of coffee hit me, and the usual chatter of the morning buzzed in the air. The pack wolves were already gathering, talking in low tones, but the tension was palpable. I could feel it—like an itch beneath the skin—something was off.Marcus was at the center of it. His deep voice carried across the room, and I could hear the edge in it. He was pacing near the windows, arms crossed, his jaw tight as he spoke with one of the younger wolves, Cole. The two of them looked… heated.I narrowed my eyes, my instincts bristling. Marcus had been acting strange lately, distant. More than once, I’d caught him staring off into t
Ethan’s POVThe night air was sharp and unsettling as Lila and I decided to take another routine home. I waited for her to close the clinic and we walk together. We were talking and we didn't know when we wondered into the forest. we made our way through the dense woods, the darkness closing in around us. Lila walked beside me, her eyes scanning every shadow, every rustle of leaves. She was silent, her usual calm replaced with a simmering tension that made my instincts flare. Neither of us knew what to expect—or even where exactly we were going.I had a flashlight, but it only pierced a fraction of the night. My senses were on high alert, aware of every snap of a twig, every shift in the breeze.“Are you sure we’re going the right way?” Lila asked quietly, casting a glance back over her shoulder.I nodded, though truthfully, I wasn’t sure. Lila's POVI didn't expect to wake up in a state of dread, yet here I was, lying wide-eyed and tense in bed, replaying every moment from last night. The dark forest, the monstrous creature… and that cursed, ancient ruin. My heart hadn’t stopped racing since I’d left Ethan standing there to face down whatever that thing was. I’d wanted to stay and help, but he’d given me no choice, pushing me forward until I had no choice but to run.A gentle knock on my bedroom door interrupted my thoughts, and I sat up, brushing the hair from my face. "Come in," I called, my voice sounding thin and tired. My sister Olivia stepped in, a concerned frown on her face as she took one look at me. "You look like you’ve been through a blender. Did you even sleep?"I shrugged, managing a small smile. "You could say that. It was… a rough night."Olivia settled on the edge of my bed, her soft features tinged with worry. "I can tell. You’ve been different these past few days—distracted, tense." She paused, her g
Lila's POVThe air in the room felt suffocating after Marcus’s revelation. Fenris. The first werewolf. Even the name carried an ominous weight, like saying it aloud would summon him. Ethan was already barking orders, his alpha presence commanding the room. Meanwhile, I stood rooted to the spot, my mind racing.I wasn’t ready for this. The pack’s training area buzzed with tense energy, everyone sharpening their skills, memorizing plans, and exchanging nervous glances. Most of them avoided looking at me directly, unsure, no doubt, what to make of the human girl suddenly thrust into their supernatural world, although now i knew i was no longer a normal human girl, not with everything happening lately. I did my best to ignore the stares, focusing instead on practicing a new control technique Ethan had shown me to rein in the flickering energy c
Ethan’s POV The weight of Marcus’s accusations hadn’t lifted since the night of the fight. His words haunted me, echoing in my mind every time I closed my eyes. My father’s legacy was a shadow I’d always carried, but now it felt heavier, darker, and more dangerous than ever. Lila deserved the truth, and I couldn’t avoid it any longer. She was part of this now, whether she wanted to be or not. The bond we shared was undeniable, see that she fated to be me forever, and if I didn’t come clean, it would only fester between us like an open wound. As I stumbled into the night air, the chill hit me like a slap, clearing my head enough to take stock of my surroundings. The night was still, save for the sounds of the struggle in the cabin, and the faint rustling of leaves as other figures approached.Lila’s voice called out softly from the shadows, and I turned, finding her there, her face etched with worry. She must have doubled back after reaching safety with Nathan, unwilling to leave
Ethan’s POVThe weight of the night settled heavy on my shoulders as I watched Lila and Nathan disappear into the shadows of the forest, my heart beating out a primal rhythm that urged me to go after them, to make sure they were truly safe. But Dominic was still here, standing in the half-lit cabin, his smirk as sharp as a blade. There was no walking away, not until this was over.He chuckled, low and mocking, his eyes shining with that disturbing gleam that hinted at all the twisted thoughts lurking behind them. “Sending her off without you, Blackwood? Don’t tell me you’re getting soft.”“You crossed a line, Dominic. Threatening her is going to cost you,” I spat back, feeling the heat rise in my chest, my muscles tensed and ready. This man had taken so much already—my father’s life, the safety of my pack. He wouldn’t get Lila, too.Dominic’s grin only widened, amused as he took a slow step closer. “She doesn’t even know half of what you’ve done to put her at risk, does she?”I wasn’t
Lila’s POVThe moment Ethan and I decided to go after Nathan, it felt as if a ticking clock had started. Every second wasted was a moment Nathan might not have, a chance Dominic could exploit. The plan itself was shaky at best—but we couldn’t afford to wait any longer. As I pulled my jacket tighter against the chill of the night air, I glanced over at Ethan. His expression was grim, eyes focused on the dark stretch of forest ahead. I could feel the tension radiating off him; this wasn’t just a rescue mission to him—it was personal. Dominic’s web was closing in on his pack, his home, and now Nathan, who had risked everything to help us.“Are you sure about this?” Ethan asked, glancing my way with a flicker of hesitation.I nodded, swallowing back my nerves. “Nathan trusted us enough to reach out. We owe it to him.”His hand found mine for a moment, grounding me in his steady grip. “Stay close to me. Dominic’s spies could be anywhere, and he won’t hesitate to turn this against us.”I no
Lila's POVThe past few days had been surreal, and if I was honest with myself, terrifying. Between strange symbols, mysterious creatures, and Dominic’s influence inching closer to our lives, it felt like my reality had completely tilted on its axis. The moment I thought I’d gotten a handle on things, something new would pull me back into the unknown. And now, it seemed the unknown had a face. Nathan Cross.I’d known his name only because Ethan had mentioned him as a spy—a man Dominic had planted in Silverwood, a shadow in the corner watching every move we made. I never imagined he’d turn around, though, and certainly not for reasons that made sense to me. But here he was, and his cautious messages hinted at more danger, and perhaps more betrayal, than I’d imagined.I glanced at my phone, still blinking with his last message: *Meet me tonight. I have something you need to hear. Somethi
