Lila's POV
The air in the room felt suffocating after Marcus’s revelation. Fenris. The first werewolf. Even the name carried an ominous weight, like saying it aloud would summon him. Ethan was already barking orders, his alpha presence commanding the room. Meanwhile, I stood rooted to the spot, my mind racing.
I wasn’t ready for this.
The pack’s training area buzzed with tense energy, everyone sharpening their skills, memorizing plans, and exchanging nervous glances. Most of them avoided looking at me directly, unsure, no doubt, what to make of the human girl suddenly thrust into their supernatural world, although now i knew i was no longer a normal human girl, not with everything happening lately. I did my best to ignore the stares, focusing instead on practicing a new control technique Ethan had shown me to rein in the flickering energy coursing through me. But as I raised my hand to attempt the maneuver again, a sharp burst of heat shot up my arm, surprising me.
“Ahh!” I gasped, clutching my hand as the energy fizzled out, leaving a faint, tingling ache.
“Lila, you okay?” Ethan appeared at my side, his face creased with concern.
“Yeah,” I lied, shaking my hand as if that would shake off the burning sensation. “Just… I don’t know. Everything feels off today.”
Ethan nodded, his gaze softening as he placed a steadying hand on my shoulder. “The energy around here is volatile,” he said quietly. “Dominic’s power is seeping through every boundary, and that’s affecting you. It’s natural.”
I exhaled, half-relieved, though the tension in his expression hinted that maybe this was only the start. “What if it doesn’t get better? I don’t want to be a liability, Ethan.”
“You’re not a liability,” he said firmly, meeting my eyes. “You’re our best chance at stopping him.”
I wasn’t sure I believed him, but his confidence gave me a small spark of hope. Taking a deep breath, I tried the technique again, this time keeping my movements slow and focused. The energy crackled along my fingertips but stayed contained this time, a small victory.
Ethan watched for a moment, his expression unreadable, before nodding and stepping back to oversee the others. I caught him glancing at me a few more times, and though he didn’t say anything, his gaze left a strange warmth in my chest that I couldn’t quite explain.
After several hours, the pack was given a break, and I decided to take the opportunity to get some air. The training had exhausted me, but the persistent pulse inside me hadn’t let up. If anything, it was growing stronger, almost insistent. I walked along the path that wound through the woods surrounding the pack’s grounds, hoping the fresh air would help clear my head.
And then, out of nowhere, it hit me.
One moment, I was walking through the forest, the scent of pine and earth grounding me. The next, the world seemed to dissolve into darkness, and a vivid image filled my mind. Fires raged, the familiar buildings of Silverwood reduced to ashes as screams echoed around me. I tried to focus, to pull myself out of the vision, but it was as though I were stuck, trapped within a nightmare I couldn’t escape.
The flames grew higher, consuming everything in sight. I felt my heart pounding as I struggled against the vision, desperate to understand what I was seeing, but everything was a chaotic blur of fire and destruction. And then, as suddenly as it began, the vision shifted.
A figure emerged from the shadows—a wolf, massive and dark, with eyes that glowed an unnatural red. It snarled, baring teeth that seemed impossibly sharp, its gaze locked on something in the distance. And then, to my horror, it turned those red eyes on me.
The vision snapped, and I staggered, grabbing a nearby tree to steady myself. My heart raced, the image of that monstrous wolf still fresh in my mind. I felt an ache at my temples and closed my eyes, trying to ground myself. This was more than just a feeling; it was a warning. But how was I supposed to tell Ethan without sounding like I was losing it?
Footsteps crunched behind me, and I turned to see Olivia, her face a mixture of worry and curiosity. “You alright, Lila? You look like you just saw a ghost.”
“Something like that,” I managed, running a hand over my forehead. “It’s… I think I had some kind of vision. About Silverwood.”
Olivia’s eyes widened slightly, and she took a step closer, her voice low. “What did you see?”
I hesitated, the memory of the flames and that terrible wolf still sending chills down my spine. “Fire. Destruction. And… a creature, a wolf, but not like any I’ve seen. It was massive and… dark. It felt like pure evil.”
She was quiet for a moment, her gaze thoughtful. “Lila, you need to tell Ethan. If you’re seeing visions, that could be a sign of something significant.”
I nodded, already feeling the weight of the decision. Ethan would want to know, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that this vision wasn’t something we could prevent. Still, I knew I had to try.
We made our way back to the training grounds, and I found Ethan speaking with Marcus, his expression tense. At the sight of me, he broke away, his eyes searching mine for answers.
“Lila?” he asked, his voice low. “What happened?”
I swallowed, still unsure how to explain it. “Ethan, I think I had a vision… of Silverwood. There was fire, and destruction, and this… creature, a wolf with red eyes. It felt… like something was watching me.”
Ethan’s face went pale, and he ran a hand through his hair, visibly shaken. “Red eyes… that’s a mark of the ancient bloodline Dominic is trying to summon. If you’re seeing it, that means it’s already closer than we thought.”
Marcus stiffened, his gaze shifting between us. “We don’t have time, then,” he said, voice low. “If Dominic is close enough to manifest in visions, he’s closer to the ritual than we anticipated.”
My stomach twisted, dread settling over me like a heavy fog. This was no longer just about protecting ourselves; Silverwood’s entire existence was at stake. I looked to Ethan, whose jaw was clenched in determination.
“Then we go tonight,” he said, his tone hard as steel. “We can’t wait until tomorrow. We need to stop him before he can complete the ritual.”
There was a murmur of agreement from the pack members around us, their faces set with grim determination. Even though the fear was palpable, I could see their loyalty to Ethan—and to Silverwood—overpowering their fear. My own heart pounded, but I took a deep breath, reminding myself that I’d come this far and couldn’t back down now.
“Alright,” Ethan said, his gaze sweeping over each of us. “We’ll gather our best fighters. Lila, you’ll stay close to me. If that wolf is after you, I’m not taking any chances.”
I opened my mouth to protest, to insist I could handle myself, but something in his expression told me this was more than just an alpha protecting his pack. It was personal.
We spent the next hour preparing, gathering supplies and coordinating with the pack members who would stay behind to guard Silverwood. As I checked my supplies, I felt Ethan’s presence beside me, his hand reaching out to clasp mine.
“Are you sure you’re ready for this?” he asked quietly, his eyes searching mine.
“As ready as I’ll ever be,” I replied, squeezing his hand. I didn’t have time to dwell on the electricity of his touch or the warmth in his gaze. This was about survival, about facing down a threat none of us fully understood.
The night descended around us as we made our way to the edge of the forest, the shadows deep and silent. Every sound seemed amplified, every snap of a branch or rustle of leaves sending my heart racing. Ethan moved beside me, his gaze sharp, scanning the darkness with a predator’s focus. I could feel his tension, his determination radiating through every step.
As we neared the clearing where Dominic was rumored to be hiding, I felt the pulse of dark energy again, stronger than ever. It was as though the very air was thickening, pressing down on us with a weight that was almost suffocating.
“We’re close,” Ethan whispered, his voice barely audible. He signaled for us to spread out, and I followed his lead, moving through the shadows as silently as I could. The vision replayed in my mind, that monstrous wolf with its glowing red eyes haunting me even as I fought to focus.
We reached the clearing and crouched low, watching from a distance as Dominic and his followers prepared for the ritual. A massive stone altar sat in the center, surrounded by dark sigils that pulsed with ominous energy.
And then, the wolf from my vision appeared.
It emerged from the shadows, larger and more terrifying than I’d remembered, its eyes glowing like embers. My heart raced, and I looked at Ethan, who stared at the creature with a mixture of horror and resolve.
This was it. The moment we’d been dreading.
As the wolf turned its gaze on us, I knew that whatever happened next, nothing would ever be the same.
Lila’s POV I tugged at the clumps formed in my hair from work all day between my fingers. It carried a scent of antiseptic and fur, a familiar blend that seemed almost calming — the way my little Silverwood veterinary clinic always had. The clinic was so much more than my job, it was where I felt safe valiantly striving to save animals gave me something to focus on that both benefited others and in turn filled the void inside of me which seemed unending most days.Silverwood was a quaint isolated town surrounded by giant oak trees with rolling hills for miles and silver spinning between them. The town had a quiet classicism that seemed insulated from the pace of change beyond its borders. Here we knew each other, and everyone knew one another - deeply interconnected. But over time, there had been something unsettling running like a live wire beneath it all that began with the animals.“Another one, Lila,” my assistant Sarah called out through the halls of our clinicI breathed out an
Lila’s POV Sunlight poured through the window of my clinic, giving a soft aura to it all. I sat bolt upright, the memories of last night slamming through my mind. It was like a half-remembered dream, the wolf and the mysterious sickness, Ethan appearing out of nowhere– but my tired bones ached and the unconscious wolf in the next room were proof that it was all real. I stretched , feeling the weight of the day ahead, and headed to the examination room. The wolf was asleep and resting comfortably. I was glad to see that its injury was not swollen up and had remained quiet through the night. But as much as I wanted to believe everything was fine. I couldn't shake the unease feeling that settled in my gut. Sarah was already up, drinking coffee over a bunch of files as she reviewed them. “Um, morning,” she said with a tired smile. "Our patient is stable. I checked up on him a couple of time at midnight""Thank you, Sarah." I replied, appreciating her effort. "I'll take over from here.
Lila’s POV The shadows flickered and danced among the trees, their presence ill-intent threatening to thicken into a tangible aura. Ethan stood in front of me, tense and alert as if he might leap to the left or right at any second. I felt my heart beating in my chest, adrenaline pumping through all of me as we watched the strange movements in the forest. There was something about Ethan that both intrigued and frightened me. The way he had tamed the wolf so effortlessly, his eyes briefly changing to that unnatural gold—it was as if he wasn't completely human. But he as looked at me, and for some reason I feel safe standing here with him right now.“Follow me,” he murmured, his voice resonating deep and thus commanding. That was the third time he said it, and I couldn't help but spark a little bit of nerve still hearing that overly protective tone in his voice. I was no damsel in distress, but I knew for sure not to argue with someone who clearly knew more about what we were facing th
Lila’s POV I woke up the next day with a huge lump in my chest. The events of yesterday kept circulating in my mind over and over, causing an unease to hover on me. Ethan's fierce protectiveness and the disturbing encounter with Dominic, those red glowing eyes in shadows—I only thought these situations were bad nightmares. But my tight muscles and the lump in my gut told me otherwise.I got out of bed and did my morning routine, hoping the order would settle me.As I made my way to the clinic, the early morning sunrise casting shadows across the quiet street of Silverwood. I felt like eyes watching me on my walk to the clinic. I quickened my pace. When i got to the clinic Sarah was already there when I walked up, her normally open face screwed into an expression of worry. ‘Morning, Lila,’” she said in that tight way people do when they are trying to be friendly against their better judgement. ''Did you hear about the incident at the Miller farm?". I frowned, shaking my head. “No, w
LILA POV The morning sun cast a warm glow through my kitchen window, but the chill from the previous night’s discovery still lingered in my bones. I couldn’t get the image of that symbol, etched so ominously into my front door, out of my mind. The note had been even more disturbing: “We are coming.” The threat hung over me like a storm cloud.I needed answers. I needed to understand what was happening in Silverwood and why I was at the center of it. With a sense of determination, I made a plan: I would start at the town library, diving into the history and legends of Silverwood to find any connection to the symbol and the strange events plaguing us.After a quick breakfast and a glance over my shoulder to ensure I wasn’t being watched, I set off for the library. The streets were quiet, the early morning calm only broken by the chirping of birds and the distant hum of traffic. Yet, every shadow felt like it was hiding something, every rustle of leaves a whisper of danger. The library
Ethan’s POVThe air in the meeting hall was stifling, tension hanging heavy over the pack. I stood at the head of the room, scanning the faces of my pack members—my family. Tonight, their usual confidence was overshadowed by worry. They sensed it in me, the weight of the unknown, and it rippled through them like a current. I had called this meeting to address our growing concerns, but now, standing before them, I felt the pressure of leadership like never before.I took a deep breath, gathering my thoughts. “We’ve got a problem,” I began, keeping my voice steady. “And it’s worse than I initially thought.”A murmur spread through the room. The pack was restless and uncertain, and I couldn’t blame them. The illness affecting the wildlife had been growing worse by the day, and now it was starting to affect my pack members, too. The realization was a punch to the gut. We were supposed to be stronger than this—invincible. But something was targeting us, and it wasn’t just a physical threa
Lila's POVI had never been one to believe in fate, destiny, or any of those made-up ancient stories that supposedly guide people toward their true paths. Life seemed more like a series of random events, chaotic and out of control. But ever since the night that massive wolf showed up at my clinic, it felt like the universe had decided to involve me in something much bigger than I was ready for. That wolf, with its intense eyes and unnatural presence, wasn’t just some wild animal. Something about that encounter gnawed at me. And then there was Ethan Blackwood, the man who showed up right when I needed help. Our paths kept crossing, and each time, it was like the universe was nudging us closer together. Whether I wanted it or not.Today was no different.I had gone to the local café for my usual cup of tea, needing a break from work. The moment I walked in, my eyes were drawn to him. Ethan sat in the corner, talking quietly with Marcus. I tried to ignore him, not wanting to appear like
Lila’s POVThe next day at the clinic I just went on with my normal routine and handling appointments. I was grateful for the normalcy, given the whirlwind of confusion that had taken over my life lately. The more I thought about what I overheard at the café—the talk of werewolves, Alphas, packs—the more I questioned my sanity. Maybe I had imagined it, maybe my mind was playing tricks on me, but deep down, I knew the truth. There was something otherworldly happening in Silverwood.I tried to focus on the animals, on their simple needs and innocent lives. They weren’t bogged down by complicated things like pack rivalries or supernatural beings. I envied them for that. But my mind kept drifting back to Ethan. Why had he and Marcus been talking about me? What made me so important in all of this? And then, of course, there was the matter of Ethan being a werewolf, which I dont know if it really true. I had seen enough strange things to start believing in the impossible, but I still strugg

Ethan’s POV The weight of Marcus’s accusations hadn’t lifted since the night of the fight. His words haunted me, echoing in my mind every time I closed my eyes. My father’s legacy was a shadow I’d always carried, but now it felt heavier, darker, and more dangerous than ever. Lila deserved the truth, and I couldn’t avoid it any longer. She was part of this now, whether she wanted to be or not. The bond we shared was undeniable, see that she fated to be me forever, and if I didn’t come clean, it would only fester between us like an open wound. As I stumbled into the night air, the chill hit me like a slap, clearing my head enough to take stock of my surroundings. The night was still, save for the sounds of the struggle in the cabin, and the faint rustling of leaves as other figures approached.Lila’s voice called out softly from the shadows, and I turned, finding her there, her face etched with worry. She must have doubled back after reaching safety with Nathan, unwilling to leave
Ethan’s POVThe weight of the night settled heavy on my shoulders as I watched Lila and Nathan disappear into the shadows of the forest, my heart beating out a primal rhythm that urged me to go after them, to make sure they were truly safe. But Dominic was still here, standing in the half-lit cabin, his smirk as sharp as a blade. There was no walking away, not until this was over.He chuckled, low and mocking, his eyes shining with that disturbing gleam that hinted at all the twisted thoughts lurking behind them. “Sending her off without you, Blackwood? Don’t tell me you’re getting soft.”“You crossed a line, Dominic. Threatening her is going to cost you,” I spat back, feeling the heat rise in my chest, my muscles tensed and ready. This man had taken so much already—my father’s life, the safety of my pack. He wouldn’t get Lila, too.Dominic’s grin only widened, amused as he took a slow step closer. “She doesn’t even know half of what you’ve done to put her at risk, does she?”I wasn’t
Lila’s POVThe moment Ethan and I decided to go after Nathan, it felt as if a ticking clock had started. Every second wasted was a moment Nathan might not have, a chance Dominic could exploit. The plan itself was shaky at best—but we couldn’t afford to wait any longer. As I pulled my jacket tighter against the chill of the night air, I glanced over at Ethan. His expression was grim, eyes focused on the dark stretch of forest ahead. I could feel the tension radiating off him; this wasn’t just a rescue mission to him—it was personal. Dominic’s web was closing in on his pack, his home, and now Nathan, who had risked everything to help us.“Are you sure about this?” Ethan asked, glancing my way with a flicker of hesitation.I nodded, swallowing back my nerves. “Nathan trusted us enough to reach out. We owe it to him.”His hand found mine for a moment, grounding me in his steady grip. “Stay close to me. Dominic’s spies could be anywhere, and he won’t hesitate to turn this against us.”I no
Lila's POVThe past few days had been surreal, and if I was honest with myself, terrifying. Between strange symbols, mysterious creatures, and Dominic’s influence inching closer to our lives, it felt like my reality had completely tilted on its axis. The moment I thought I’d gotten a handle on things, something new would pull me back into the unknown. And now, it seemed the unknown had a face. Nathan Cross.I’d known his name only because Ethan had mentioned him as a spy—a man Dominic had planted in Silverwood, a shadow in the corner watching every move we made. I never imagined he’d turn around, though, and certainly not for reasons that made sense to me. But here he was, and his cautious messages hinted at more danger, and perhaps more betrayal, than I’d imagined.I glanced at my phone, still blinking with his last message: *Meet me tonight. I have something you need to hear. Somethi
Lila's POVI didn't expect to wake up in a state of dread, yet here I was, lying wide-eyed and tense in bed, replaying every moment from last night. The dark forest, the monstrous creature… and that cursed, ancient ruin. My heart hadn’t stopped racing since I’d left Ethan standing there to face down whatever that thing was. I’d wanted to stay and help, but he’d given me no choice, pushing me forward until I had no choice but to run.A gentle knock on my bedroom door interrupted my thoughts, and I sat up, brushing the hair from my face. "Come in," I called, my voice sounding thin and tired. My sister Olivia stepped in, a concerned frown on her face as she took one look at me. "You look like you’ve been through a blender. Did you even sleep?"I shrugged, managing a small smile. "You could say that. It was… a rough night."Olivia settled on the edge of my bed, her soft features tinged with worry. "I can tell. You’ve been different these past few days—distracted, tense." She paused, her g
Ethan’s POVThe night air was sharp and unsettling as Lila and I decided to take another routine home. I waited for her to close the clinic and we walk together. We were talking and we didn't know when we wondered into the forest. we made our way through the dense woods, the darkness closing in around us. Lila walked beside me, her eyes scanning every shadow, every rustle of leaves. She was silent, her usual calm replaced with a simmering tension that made my instincts flare. Neither of us knew what to expect—or even where exactly we were going.I had a flashlight, but it only pierced a fraction of the night. My senses were on high alert, aware of every snap of a twig, every shift in the breeze.“Are you sure we’re going the right way?” Lila asked quietly, casting a glance back over her shoulder.I nodded, though truthfully, I wasn’t sure. This part of the fo
Ethan’s POVThe sun was barely peeking over the treetops when I arrived back at the pack house. My mind was still racing after the conversation with Elena, her prophecy playing on a loop in my head: *a great sacrifice, a betrayal from within.* The heaviness of it was suffocating, but I couldn’t afford to show it. Not now, not ever.As I walked through the front door, the smell of coffee hit me, and the usual chatter of the morning buzzed in the air. The pack wolves were already gathering, talking in low tones, but the tension was palpable. I could feel it—like an itch beneath the skin—something was off.Marcus was at the center of it. His deep voice carried across the room, and I could hear the edge in it. He was pacing near the windows, arms crossed, his jaw tight as he spoke with one of the younger wolves, Cole. The two of them looked… heated.I narrowed my eyes, my instincts bristling. Marcus had been acting strange lately, distant. More than once, I’d caught him staring off into t
Ethan’s POVThe air inside Elena’s cabin was thick with the scent of sage and something else—something ancient that I couldn’t quite place. It was quiet except for the occasional crackle of the fire in the stone hearth. I had been here plenty of times before, but tonight, something felt different. There was a tension that clung to the air, a heaviness that settled deep in my chest.I stood by the window, looking out at the dark forest that surrounded the cabin. The trees seemed to press in closer than usual, their shadows long and foreboding. It felt like they were waiting for something. Or maybe someone.“Elena,” I called, my voice low but firm. “We need answers.”Behind me, I heard the soft shuffle of Elena Grey’s bare feet against the wooden floor. She moved slowly, as if weighed down by the gravity of what she had to say. I turned to face her, watching as she approached the small altar at the center of the room. The firelight cast eerie shadows across her face, making her look old
