Chapter 12

Ronald rushed to my side, concern etched on his face. "Freya, what's wrong? Are you okay?"

I clutched my chest, struggling to breathe. "I...I don't know. My heart...it hurts."

The maids exchanged worried glances, and one of them stepped forward bravely. "Alpha, should we call the healer?"

Ronald nodded, scooping me up in his arms. "Yes, now."

As he carried me away, my eyes could not leave his face. I wondered if his act of caring was just another show. I caught the gaze of the maid who had snorted earlier,  Her thoughts flooded my mind and I could tell she had a huge crush on him "This is too convenient. She's faking it."

I forced a weak smile, trying to reassure Ronald. "I'm fine, really."

But he would not let me down. "You're not fine. You're going to see the healer, and we'll figure out what's going on with you, you can’t just cry in pain and expect me to believe you are fine." He snapped

The healer's quarters were nearby, and soon I was lying on a comfortable bed, surrounded by the soothing scent of herbs. The healer, an elderly woman with kind eyes, examined me.

"What's your diagnosis?" Ronald asked, pacing beside the bed.

The healer's expression turned grave. "Her heart is indeed troubled, Alpha. But it's not a physical ailment. It's...magical, almost likely to be a curse too."

Ronald's eyes narrowed. "Explain."

The healer hesitated. "I sense a dark energy surrounding her. It's suppressing her true nature."

My eyes met Ronald's, and I knew he was thinking the same thing, What secrets was I hiding? As far as I know, I know nothing about how dark magic works but with me being able to hear people’s thoughts, I suppose it’s a side effect from fighting with a witch like Lilian.

Ronald's gaze intensified. "What do you mean by 'true nature'?"

The healer's voice dropped to a whisper. "I'm not entirely sure, Alpha. But I sense miss emm?”she asked looking at me

“Freya” I replied

“Freya's power is being suppressed, hidden even from herself." She continued

I felt a shiver run down my spine. How did the healer know that? Is this pack into black magic too? I wouldn’t be surprised if they were

Ronald's eyes never left mine. "We will have to investigate this further. Thank you, Healer."

The healer nodded, handing Ronald a small pouch. "This will ease Freya's discomfort. But, Alpha, be cautious. Dark magic is involved."

As the healer departed, Ronald's expression turned stern. "Freya, what's going on? What secrets are you hiding?"

I swallowed hard, unsure how much to reveal. "I...I don't know what you're talking about."

Ronald's eyes narrowed. "Don't lie to me. I can sense it. You're not who you claim to be."

My heart raced. How did he know?

Forcing a little tears out, I look up at him with fake fright and feign to be accused of wrong while my heart raced, praying he buys the act.

However, it did as Ronald's face suddenly softened. "Freya, I don't care what you've done or what you're hiding. You're under my protection now. Trust me."

I searched his eyes, seeking sincerity. Could I truly trust him?

"Ronald," I whispered, "I'm scared. I’m not hiding anything since I have no memory from my past life but I feel like I’m being watched and would be hunt down anytime"

He wrapped his arms around me, pulling me close. "You're safe now. I won't let anyone harm you."

As Ronald held me, I felt a strange sensation within me. It was as if a suppressed power was stirring, responding to his touch. I could even feel my wolf feeling worked up but didn’t ask a question as I knew she would probably ignore me as usual .

"Ronald," I whispered, "what's happening to me?"

He pulled back, his eyes locked on mine. "I don't know, Freya. But I sense it too. You had powers and they seem to be awakening."

Suddenly, the room began to shake, and the air filled with somewhat like invisible charge. Almost like a fire and a thunder strike happening at the same time. Ronald's eyes gleamed with excitement.

"Something in you is revealing itself, Freya. You're not just any ordinary woman."

I felt my body transforming, my senses heightening. My vision expanded, and I saw the world in a new light.

Ronald's voice echoed in my mind. "You're a Lycan, Freya. A powerful one, a warrior lycan."

I stumbled backward, shocked. "No, that's impossible. I would have known."

Ronald's expression turned serious. "Your memories were suppressed, Freya. But now, they're returning."

As he spoke, memories flooded my mind- memories of my life as a maid, my life of not being recognized by my mate.

I stumbled, overwhelmed but Ronald caught me, holding me close.

"Freya, I'm here for you. We will face this together."

Tears streamed down my face. "Why did you help me, Ronald? Where?"

His eyes burned with intensity. "Because, Freya, I am good. And even though you are a lycan warrior, a special made by the goddess who even without training, will be able to whoop some soldiers, I will still do everything to protect you."

My heart skipped a beat. Good? Protect me? Did he truly mean it?

But before I could respond, a loud howl echoed outside, followed by the sound of shattering glass.

The maids' quarters were under attack!

This was the third news about killing this week, and I had no idea why someone was killing my pack members. I was about to lash out when I felt the earthquake.“What the hell?” I muttered, gripping a hold of my table. I looked around the room and everything I hung came crashing down. The guard had fainted, my guess was he didn't hold on to something and had hit his head on the wall. This has never happened before, not even when witches and wolves co-existed. My thoughts went to Freya and I wondered if it affected her room too. It took a while before everywhere stilled. I signed, getting up to pick the objects that were flung around by the earthquake. “What was that? “ I heard a voice behind me and I turned. It was one of my elders. “I have no idea” I answered, picking up a framed picture of a white wolf and placi
