Jaselyn's POV
Larose eyed me intently before releasing an exaggerated sigh.
“You want to go now?”
“Yes, if you're not too busy.” I replied with a forced smile.
Rion who was standing behind me opened up our bond.
A flurry of warmth engulfed me as he spoke through our mind link.
‘What are you doing?’
‘Just trust me and play along.’
He nodded and closed our bond and the loss of that familiar warmth almost made me frown.
“Yeah, we haven't had a chance to explore the Pack yet. This is my homeland after all, it's only fair that I get to see it properly.” Rion joined in, standing beside me.
“I guess I can't say no to the future Alpha.” Larose said with a taut smile and I wasn't sure if she was being sarcastic.
“Let me change into something more suitable.” She said and left, giving me a chance to speak to Rion alone.

Jaselyn's POV“How may I help you?” He asked but his eyes still remained fixed on Larose who visibly shrinked from the attention.“Who might you be? I've never seen you in this Pack before and this house is supposed to belong to Mr and Mrs Windsommer.” Larose interrogated. He was about to speak when the door opened wider and a brown haired but beautiful middle aged woman walked out.“Who do we have at the door?” She directed the question at the redhead as she turned her gaze to us and her face lit up with both joy and recognition.“Rion dear, you're here.” She beamed and rushed over to where he stood, hugging him tightly.“Mum, I'm glad to see you.” Rion breathed, hugging back and resting his head on her shoulder. I've never met Rion's adoptive parents but from what I'm seeing, it fills me with joy to see that he seems to have a very close relationship with them. Now I
Jaselyn's POV“It's Larose.” Larose muttered.“That's a beautiful name, you're just as pretty as a rose. I understand that Rion becoming a part of your family is just as strange to you as it is to him.But I promise it's a lucky thing because Rion is the sweetest and most caring person you'll ever meet. He's reliable and he goes all out for the people he cares about. He'll be a wonderful brother to you just like he was to my daughter, Melan when she was still alive.” Mrs Windsommer entreated and Larose stood up instantly.“Excuse me but I have to leave right now, I'm sorry.” She said hurriedly.“So soon? The refreshments aren't even here yet.”“It's fine, I'll pass. Thank you for the courtesy, but I must go.” She said offishly and marched to the door.As soon as she grabbed the door handle, thunder rumbled and lightning struck, startling all of
Jaselyn's POV “You're back.” Was what escaped my lips instead.“It's not like I want to be here. The car refused to start and the driver couldn't do anything in this storm. He'll go look for a mechanic after the storm is over.” She grumbled, walking further into the living room.“You poor thing, you're drenched.” Mrs Windsommer empathized and stood up, leaving to probably go get some towels.Larose took out her phone but it was also wet. She tried to switch it on but the blank screen remained.“Stupid thing.” She cursed under her breath, shaking it and trying to get it to work.“It seems like your phone is damaged. Did it fall or something? It's soaked.” I inquired.“It fell into a puddle when I was trying to rush back here.” She confessed.“Is the call important? You can use my phone instead.” I offered and she scoffed.“I didn't ask for your help, it's fine.”“Cut the crap, Larose. I know you were rushing back because of Carol but now you're stuck here due to the storm. Unfortunate
Rion's POV With Jas disappearing into the kitchen with mum, I couldn't help but feel just a little bored.Nothing interesting was showing on the TV so Lian just opted to watch the news update. Which you can already guess is as mundane as it gets. The fact that the weather forecast revealed that we'd be stuck here for another two hours thanks to this sneaky storm didn't help matters. It's not that I'm in any hurry to part with mum, it's just that staying that long forces me to stew over things I've been putting off for a while.I had expected wide eyed shock, even from reluctance or resistance from mum when she found out that Jaselyn was my new mate due to how much she loved Ziarre.Mum absolutely adored Ziarre and treated her like a daughter. There were times when I used to joke that mum loved Ziarre more than me. I know that mum was also deeply affected by Ziarre's death. So it's more than a little shocking how easily she accepted Jaselyn as my mate and I know it's not just for my s
Rion's POV“What are you doing here?” She sneered.“I'm still your older brother, you know. You should speak to me with more respect.” I cautioned and her expression turned to a full blown frown.“Never call yourself that again. Don't you dare!” She warned, her voice low and dangerous. It made me take a step back unconsciously. She moved forward, trying to walk past me but I grabbed her arm, stopping her in her tracks. If looks could kill, I'm sure I would be impaled by the glare she was giving me.“Let go of my hand.”I ignored her, putting forward my own thoughts.“How long will you carry on like this? You act like you can't stand me but at the same time, you refuse to say what the problem is. It's utterly frustrating.I honestly wouldn't mind if it was just you, we're not close anyways but I can't help but notice how much your behavior is affecting Carol.Yo
Jaselyn's POVThe kitchen despite its size was warm and inviting, filled with the comforting aroma of spices and freshly baked bread. Mrs. Windsommer hummed a cheerful tune as she moved around, gathering ingredients for our impromptu meal. I couldn’t help but feel a sense of peace being here with her, away from the tension and complications of my relationship with Rion.“Jaselyn dear, could you please chop these vegetables?” Mrs. Windsommer asked, handing me a basket filled with colorful produce.“Of course, mum,” I replied promptly, taking the basket and moving to the sink.As I washed the vegetables, she spoke.“You know, I'm really glad that Rion found you. I won't lie, I loved Ziarre dearly. She was more of a daughter to me than a daughter in-law.Her death was a blow to my mate and I but it broke Rion to pieces.Do you know what he said to me when he came home the day after her death?&rdq
Jaselyn's POVDinner was pleasant. The food was delicious but the atmosphere was thick with tension. The silent battle that was going on between Rion and Larose couldn't be any louder.Thankfully, Lian saved the day. While Mrs Windsommer said a few words here and there and talked about random things, Lian threw jokes that nearly had me choking on my food.It was a wonderful evening except for the tension between the twins. After that, I took a shower first and so did Rion. Mrs Windsommer lended me one of her old night dresses while Rion wore the same clothes. We spent the rest of the evening watching TV but Larose decided to retire to bed early so Mrs Windsommer gave her one of the guestrooms while Rion and I took the second guest room.I dusted the room a bit since it hadn't been in use, before making the bed. I sat down on the bed and stretched a little, a yawn involuntarily coming out of me.It's been a long day so of course
Jaselyn's POV“Yes, tell me.” I maintained. He opened his mouth to speak, the words coming out almost slurred. “She said a lot but basically, she hates me so much that she wants me dead. She holds me responsible for ruining her life. She believes I'm the reason she was neglected by our parents, growing up. My absence deprived her of a real family. And even though I apologized and tried really hard to make up with her, she said that she would never consider me her brother. A sibling bond forming between us is completely out of the question.”His words were raw and emotional, always choked and they depicted the depth of his sadness. How could she have said all of that to him? Does she have any idea what he's been through? While she enjoyed the privileges of being born into the royal family, Rion was raised in a humble house and he never asked for more.He always saw the good in every situation, no matter how dire.
