Chapter 6

Author: Rainstorm
Lily heard the commotion and immediately ran into the bedroom.

"Your Majesty, what happened-?"

“Get lost.”

Lily halted at the words. They came from the bed, and it was a man's voice.

She knew something was wrong and cried for help. A chamberlain rushed in and quickly stopped her, angrily reprimanding her.

"You blind fool! That's the king!"

Lily was dumbfounded. The king? The tyrant king who murdered people? Why had he suddenly come so late at night?

On the bed, George pressed on Jane's shoulder with one hand while grabbing her dagger-wielding hand by the wrist with the other. He towered over her like a lion that was about to slaughter its prey.

Jane could try to set herself free, but she stopped moving after discovering who he was. She could not see his face clearly in the dark. However, she could feel he was a deadly threat.

"My queen, do you care to explain?"

His harsh tone was intimidating. An ordinary girl would have begun stuttering helplessly a long time ago. Jane remained calm.

"I only have this dagger with me for self-protection,” she explained. “I didn't intend to give you a fright."

At the end of the day, she was not a demure lady like Wendy. She had a monotonous voice that almost made her sound indifferent. Instead of someone speaking to her husband, it sounded as if she was speaking to a complete stranger.

George snorted. He snatched her dagger away and sat upright.

There was no lamp in the bed chamber. Very little moonlight shone into the room, making it somewhat dim.

Jane could vaguely see a man sitting at the edge of the bed. His robe was messy, and he looked slightly ruffled. He played around with the dagger. There was dead silence.

Jane sat upright, keeping a distance between herself and George. She would not move unless he did.

Suddenly, George leaned sideways and held the dagger against her neck.

Jane neither moved nor tried to dodge.

"The kind of people I kill are usually those who think they are smart," he said threateningly.

"You're the king. The people you kill deserve to be killed," Jane replied.

He burst into laughter. It sent chills down her spine. Then he leaned in and grabbed her by the neck before pushing her against the bed frame. He kept her trapped and questioned her forcefully.

"In that case, do you think you deserve to be killed, my queen?"

George intentionally spoke slowly. It felt as if he was torturing a criminal.

Jane could feel the force he exerted was not strong enough to suffocate her, but it was enough to make her suffer.

"My life is in your hands. It's not up to me to decide," she responded.

"I'm telling you to say it!" he bellowed. George was showing his furious side and gave off a bone-chilling aura.

"If that's the case, I'll say I don't deserve to be killed," Jane answered frankly.

"Is that so? But I heard that you were abducted before the wedding and lost your virginity." His gaze was cold.

Jane remained calm. "It's only a rumor. You can easily find out if I'm actually a virgin."

"All right. Let's find out."

George threw her onto the bed. He was very strong. Fortunately, Jane was the one going through this, if it had been Wendy, she would have been injured.

Suddenly, a hard object was pressed against her abdomen. Worse still, the man grabbed her hand and made her hold it herself.

It was the cold hilt of the dagger.

She could hear his demonic whisper in her ear. "You’re too dirty for me. Do it yourself, my queen."

Jane was enraged. The tyrant king was inhuman. She was glad once again that Wendy did not have to go through these things.

She held the dagger, her hands shaking with her rage.

"If you don't make a move, I won't mind getting someone to help you." There wasn’t a hint of pity in his voice.

Determined, Jane unbuttoned her attire.

It was destined to be a disaster tonight. Jane had expected it.To be honest, it was probably a blessing that she could do it herself instead of losing her virginity to the tyrant king. Then she lifted the hem of her skirt with one hand while holding the dagger upside down with the other.Although she had decided to do it, she still instinctively resisted it. She had suffered enough injuries growing up, had she not? With that, she tensed, about to exert all her force-A strong hand gripped her wrist.Jane frowned. George snatched the dagger from her. When he spoke, his tone was even colder than before."Such a stupid woman."Clang! He threw the dagger away from the bed."I don't care if you're a virgin or not. Jane hardly looked like a neglected wife. She was dressed richly in a glamorous gown and looked as regal as a lioness. Her cold gaze made her seem distant and unapproachable, but she exuded nobility. She didn’t have the sickly pale skin that most women in the Royal City strived for either. Instead, she had a healthy, rosy complexion. Her exquisite beauty resembled that of a goddess. The royal servants were used to seeing concubines who looked like Rosalie. Their eyes lit up when they saw how beautiful Jane was. She certainly lived up to her reputation as one of the famous beauties in the Royal City. Ordinary women could hardly compare.Ever since Jane became an adult, she had been living in disguise. Beauty was a liability for her, especially in the barracks. Her master's wife always said her good looks were wasted on her.Lily followed proudly behind Jane.As Jane arrived before the queen dowager, she curtseyed."Greetings, Your Majesty."Dina remained seated. His majestic figure was already distant, and impossible to disobey.A breeze lifted the hem of Richard’s white coat. He walked down the steps and looked across the distance. The entire royal gardens and stables were in view, including the woman who tamed the horse. In his memory, the figure of a young girl riding a horse bore a striking resemblance.-Due to the terrifying ordeal, Dina left first and returned to Serene Palace. On the other hand, Jane went back to the Zen Palace. As a rule, the queen had to be greeted by all the concubines. However, very few concubines had come to see her. Most of them either claimed to be sick or were busy with internal affairs.Jane had no intention of keeping up false pretenses with them. She dismissed those who came, telling them to return to their palaces. Not long after, someone came to pass on the kin

Richard seemed to have just left Serene Palace. As their paths crossed, he nodded politely to her."Greetings, Wendy."The familiar mode of address that he used indicated his closeness to the king.Lily looked at Richard, lost in thought. The prince was so handsome. He looked well-groomed, elegant, and polite. His temperament was much better than the tyrant king who killed people for no reason. If only her mistress was married to-Lily immediately stopped herself from continuing such a ridiculous thought. There were strict rules in the palace, unlike in the barracks, where women could casually flirt with men.Jane was about to leave when Richard suddenly asked, "Were you frightened when you supervised the beheading yesterday?"Jane’s eyes narrowed. "Not really," she answered shortly."I happened to see when you tamed that horse. You're really good. In fact, the king likes women who know horsemanship. In this regard, you might be able to earn his affection." Richard’s tone w

The water rippled as Jane was lifted up. She reflexively clasped her hands over the front of her body. However, her entire back was already exposed.Without any hesitation, George looked at the back of Jane's waist. There were no signs of bruises. It looked clean and smooth.George frowned. The cold glare in his eyes remained.Jane's palms were warm, and there was sweat on her forehead. Desperate, she had used her prowess to utilize her energy and dissipate the bruises. But it had been so quick she had used up a lot of energy, and was weakened. However, George had not dismissed his suspicions yet. He grabbed her by the waist and applied force with his thumb to her back."Ugh!" Jane felt a sharp pain and couldn’t help but let out a muffled grunt. She endured it and did not dare to make it obvious."Did you suffer from an injury in your back?" George asked coldly.Jane shook her head. "No. Why do you ask?""Your waist feels very stiff."His palm was like a torture device, and i

In the royal study, George was reviewing some official documents. He suddenly stopped what he was doing, and his gaze turned cold."She wants the gold emblem?"The chamberlain who passed on the message shivered. "That's right, Your Majesty. The queen is outside the palace. She seeks an audience with you for the gold emblem."However, everyone knew the gold emblem was with Helena. Was the queen deliberately asking for trouble? The chamberlain broke out in a cold sweat, fearing that he would be affected by the king's anger. The large screen behind the throne showed glimpses of moving shadows.George’s face turned gloomy. His pupils looked like a falcon’s. They were sharp and dangerous."Tell her I will dethrone her if she continues to make trouble!""As you wish!"-Outside the royal study, Jane's gaze was calm. It was as if she could feel neither anger nor joy that ordinary people felt. After the chamberlain passed on George's message in its entirety, he offered her some advi

Jane sat calmly on the dark wooden chair, her demeanor composed and unperturbed."Zen Palace has become quieter. That's the benefit," she said.Lily, quick-witted as always, immediately understood."Your Majesty, so you didn’t truly want the gold emblem. You were just trying to rid yourself of those concubines who visit daily to pay their respects! But... wasn’t this price a bit too steep?""That's not all. Now that the mistress of Zen Palace has been confined, fewer eyes are watching us," Jane replied while shifting her gaze outside."Were there many eyes on us before?" Lily asked in surprise.Jane picked up her teacup, took a sip, and spoke slowly."The corner in the east courtyard, the old pagoda tree in the west, the roof on the northern side..." Jane went on.Lily’s eyes widened as she instinctively lowered her voice."Your Majesty, do you mean that there were secret sentries in all those places? W-Were they sent by His Majesty? Finding a place to bury the body was secondary. Jane's main purpose in sneaking into the palace that night was to scout a few potential hiding spots. She wanted to avoid a repeat of the incident at Cloud Palace—being chased and forced to flee straight back to Zen Palace, inadvertently leading her pursuers there.Lily was still worried. The last time Jane infiltrated Cloud Palace, she ended up getting injured.Would there be any accidents this time?Meanwhile, at Serene Palace, upon hearing that the queen had been put under house arrest, Dina sighed deeply."A man's heart lies where his treasures are."The queen, new to the palace and without solid footing, has yet to win the king's favor. Even if she wanted the gold emblem, she shouldn't have acted so recklessly."Laurel shook her head as well."In my opinion, the only one who could take the gold emblem from Lady Helena would be Rosalie if she were still alive. Her Majesty, the queen, is merely chasing an unattainable dream."

After his capture, Lady Helena, fearing he might implicate her, sent a palace maid, Pearl, to silence him…"George frowned, impatient, and interrupted her in a deep voice."What exactly are you trying to say?"As far as he knew, both Trevor and Pearl were already dead. Could they somehow rise from the dead to serve as her witnesses?Jane replied with measured composure."Your Majesty, please allow me to explain. That night, Pearl didn't actually die. He had only read the first when his expression darkened."Wendy! Do you know what is written here?"Jane kept her head lowered respectfully."I do. What you're reading is the initial testimony from the bandits—unedited and containing the whole truth. It documents everything that happened after I was abducted."George's pupils contracted sharply."The maids examined you," he said. She was proven to be chaste. Yet the testimony claimed she had been violated after her abduction.Jane spoke calmly, "I consumed a rare potion and endured excruciating treatment to shed my scars. There

"If Nidora offers nothing in return, even if the ministers agree to sign the peace treaty, I fear that Romenia's hundreds of thousands of soldiers, the common people, and the countless souls of the dead will not agree!"A Nidora minister immediately retorted, "In war, casualties are inevitable! Moreover, our soldiers have never slaughtered your defenseless civilians. What 'souls of the dead' are you talking about? She drank less water, and simply endured until it passed. But she hadn't expected that the pampered king could also hold up.When the sand in the hourglass reached halfway, the man sitting cross-legged on the jade bed suddenly opened his eyes, his sharp gaze meeting Jane's."What are you staring at me for?"She had been looking at him, and he had sensed it."Don't you have any needs?" Jane asked without hesitation.Needs? She could've asked even more boldly.George didn't answer. His face instantly froze, as if ice covering it. His deep gaze filled with hostility.Jane didn't think her question was strange; in fact, it was already quite tactful. His reaction, however, was odd. Eating, drinking, and the natural urges were normal human needs. Perhaps, as a king, he didn't view himself as an ordinary person. She glanced at him briefly, her gaze cool."It's not good to hold it
