I picked everything I needed in my new home and put them in my luggage. Pick some books and photos and arrange them neatly in the luggage. I dragged the luggage out of my room and went downstairs to the sitting room where all my family stood to bade me goodbye.. I bade goodbye to my family and went outside to see a carriage waiting for me outside. I got inside and carted off my belongings.
I'm Susan Theodore, a human girl, who was blessed with the gift of prophecy in the town of Kansas. It was believed that everyone who was born with this gift is possessed by a demon including me. So my parents decide to sell me out to Father Antoine of the Catholic Church when they find out I have this gift of prophesying.
I remember telling them about a vision I had which is related to a woman in the next villa close to us and that's how they found out about my gift.
In the vision, I saw a flash of light and the woman was in labour. She died in the labour leaving the child behind.
I couldn't keep it to myself so I decided to tell my parents about it during breakfast. Unfortunately three days after my prophecy came to pass and the woman died in labour leaving her son behind. With that my parents were so furious and decided to sell me to father Antoine . It was believed that whoever was sold to a Reverend father for a period of seven years would be free from the demonic spirit.
This was so strange that many of the gullible have been sold out to different Reverend father's and I Susan Theodore is not an exception but also a part of this circle.
Not less than 3 Hours the carriage came to a halt in front of a villa close to the Catholic Church and father Antoine came out to welcome me in with a smile on his face.
" Welcome child" He said with the rosary in his hand and I bowed my head slightly to show respect.
" Thank you Father" I replied and I followed him inside. I look around if I will see another person who has the same gift as me but find none. Seems like I'm the only one who has been sold to the Reverend father. The first prayer that came to my mind was for this place to be comfortable and be like a home to me .
He showed me around and I settled in my room which was painted with blue paint and the portrait of the virgin Mary hanging on the wall with other different portraits. I arranged my stuff in the room and went into the bathroom to have a cold bath. I'm so exhausted from the trip that I immediately slump on the bed after bathing. The bed looks comfortable and soft like the one I'm using back at home. I heard a gentle knock on the door and I quickly slipped on a purple gown and went towards the door to open it.
" Do you like the room?" Father Antoine asked and I nodded with a smile.
" Alright come downstairs and have dinner. I also have some things to tell you" He said with a pair of glasses on his face.
" Alright father. Give me 5 minutes I will join you shortly" I said and he walked back to the sitting room.
I joined him shortly and dinner was served. Meat and vegetables were served and he said a brief prayer and I started digging on my food.
" Are you that hungry?" He asked and I smiled in embarrassment. I should have taken it slowly.
" If you need more you can tell me " he said, eating his food gently and I nodded.
" What's your name?" He asked
" I'm Susan Theodore and you're father Antoine" I said and he nodded with a smile.
" Seems like you already know my name" he said
" Yes my parents told me about you" I reply calmly with my green eyes complementing the green dress I'm wearing and my Burnett falling loosely on my back.
" Then I guess you already know why you're here" Father Antoine said and I nodded.
" Yes father " I replied
" All you have to do is tell me about your dreams and I will set you free from the demonic spirit" He said and I drank water from my glass.
" All my dreams?" I asked and he reply with a " yes."
" Okay father" with that the meal came to an end and I went back to my room and had a rest.
Everything was going so smoothly that I even forgot I'm here to be set free from the demonic spirit that everyone believes it's the reason behind the gift of prophecy . I didn't even miss my parents that much because I was allowed to do things kids of my age do . I felt comfortable without any worries and to me this place is like a home far away from home. Father Antoine is so kind and nice, he got me everything I needed and even taught me how to pray the rosary but things started changing exactly three months after.
I went to bed so early and had a dream as real as breathing. In the dream, I saw the father having sex with a woman called Lily Wolfe. I remember seeing her at a time when I just came into the house. She was so pretty and always seemed to be in a hurry anytime she visited. I woke up from the dream and sat down on my bed for sometime. I couldn't keep the affair in my head owing to the fact that father Antoine had informed me to always tell him about my dreams and that it will help him to deliver me from the evil spirit quickly.
The next day after confession on a cold Saturday, I summon up courage and talk to the father.
Implicative Dream "Father Antoine" I called and Father Antoine lifted his head up from the Bible he's reading."What's it Susan?" He asked and I hesitated for a minute before I started talking about what's on my mind." You know, you said I should always tell you about my dreams" I started with a bit of nervousness." Yes it will help me deliver you from the demon faster. Do you have any dreams?" He asked and I immediately gained the courage that was fading away gradually back." Yes father, I had a dream last night" I reply" How about it? Tell me about it" " Father , I saw you having sex with madam Lily in my dream last night" I said and father Antoine eyes pops out of their sockets. He removes his glasses and stares at me with a mixed expression. I tried to read the expression on his face and couldn't get it right but it's either he's surprised or angry." Really....!?" He said and I don't even know if it's a question or exclamation but the look on his face lo
Beginning of slaveryThere are times when life looks so bleak, you can’t see the windows. This was exactly how I was feeling at this moment. It’s been three days; Three days of constant abuses and pain, with nothing to make me feel slightly better. Father Antione has become my nightmare, and every single day, I wonder what I had done wrong to deserve such hatred. It literally beats my imagination, and I’m really worried sick about it. My family had left me for dead, at the most delicate part of my life. I said dead because this was becoming a nightmare. I preferred my old life to this. “Susan!” Father Antione’s voice rang out. “Father!” I responded just as hard. I picked myself up from the dirt ground that had served as my room for months, and walked to the living room. Father Antione was one of the fathers that received visits in his house, as a way to cleanse people of their sins. And, today was no exception. Seated in the parlour were seven
Living father AnthonyThe next day, I was really looking glum. I got up by 7pm, and brushed my teeth using charcoal and water from the tap at the side of my house. I was really looking forward to getting out of here, and moving to the place I was set for. Though I didn’t know where I was going, but it felt so good to have a hope for the better life. I stepped into the house from the back, and entered the room I’d been allocated, only to jump out of my skin on seeing Father Antione’s back turned to me. He had never come in here all through my stay. So, what was he doing here? “Good day, sir,” I greeted as I stepped further into the room. He turned around to face me, his face strangely bereft of malice. I was so used to him looking at me with cold eyes, that seeing him without one was mildly unnerving. “I wanted to talk to you,” he said easily. I blinked twice at the formality of it all. It wasn’t in his books to be formal, at least, not
There are times I felt a glimpse of hope, and this was one of those times. I was finally leaving this place. And, maybe it wasn’t permanent because I would be back during the holidays, but it would surely give me some reprieve. Without saying my goodbye, I stepped into the bus that would take me to my new world. A glance at Father Antione showed that he was red in the face. Was he expecting me to be all merry towards him? No, that’s never going to happen. If he wanted to save face in the public, he should have done the right thing. I looked forward, waiting anxiously for the bus to move. I didn’t want to think about anything. I wanted to have a new life, and I was going to have that. A couple of people came into the bus. They would be dropping along the way, so it was nice. A chubby teenager sat beside me, picking his teeth and gassing without a care. I had the undeniably urge to change my seat, but I knew I wasn’t going to be allotted that pleasure, so I slumped into my seat.
I looked around anxiously once more, despite feeling a false sense of safety. i turned my attention back at the stranger when I noted that there was no evil shadows lurking around trying to kill me. I was safe. “Here it is,” he exclaimed. I walked closer to him, and watched his long finger tap a spot in the book. It took me awhile for me to note my name scribbled in messy handwriting across the the pages. “That’s my name,” I sad stupidly. He looked at me in amusement. “Of course, it’s your name. Come on, let’s take you to your room,” he said softly. I looked back at the door, as worry ate at me. “I don’t think that’s a good idea. Won’t the management get upset if I find my way to my room without completing any formalities. I don’t wish to take a risk,” I said calmly. Tyler snapped the book shut, and then walked towards my bag. A couple of seconds passed before he grabbed the bag off the ground. The man didn’t understand the meaning of no and I wasn’t sure which was more daunting
Someone repeatedly shook me by the shoulders. I sighed in response to it. I didn’t want any unnecessary stress at this point, but this person wouldn’t stop. I turned sideways in frustration. “Go away. I want to sleep,” I said dryly. “No sleep on the first day of school. Come on, get up!” The girl snapped. I quickly opened my eyes, as my heart raced. If I did something wrong, I could get punished. And… “Susan, breathe. It’s just me,” the voice sounded. My eyes flicked to the voice, and I watched as Bethany looked at me in panic. I swallowed hard. It was just Bethany. There was no-one trying to harm me here. I was safe. “I… You shouldn’t have done that. You scared me so much,” I said quietly. Bethany smiled at me sadly. “You scared me too. Is this your first time of staying away from home? There is nothing to worry about. I wouldn’t let anything happen to you, roomie. Plus, the students are harmless here. They would do nothing to you. We are a tight bunch,” she said with a smile.
CHAPTER EIGHTThere was something that I didn’t seem to understand. Tyler’s appearance made my friends to pull away from me without a backward glance, and that was slightly creepy. I couldn’t get why they would leave. I looked at Bethany, in hope to bring her attention to me, but she was looking away from me, and talking animatedly to Lily. It was mildly off-putting and I had to look back at Tyler to ease off the panic I felt. He was still looking at me with an unreadable intensity. “Hi,” I said softly. He leaned on the wall. “Hi.” No words passed between us, as we looked at each other. His hands lightly touched my bag, trailing it with his fingers, with his eyes fixed on my face. “I see, you’ve settled in nicely,” he said softly. His words seemed to have some double meaning that I couldn’t quite grasp. My cheeks warmed as I looked up at him. He was so calm, and I couldn’t help but note the way the muscles under his arms moved as his fingers trailed my b
