Chapter 26: Chloe and Her Best Friend
Kendra and Chloe had been best friends for twenty-three years ever since Chloe accidentally painted on Kendra's arm during their arts and crafts time in Second Grade. Kendra had laughed instead of getting angry or upset and painted a smile on Chloe's arm in return. She said they could be paint twins.
After that day, they were nearly inseparable. Even when Kendra's family moved across country ten years later, they still kept in contact almost every day until high school graduation. They were so busy afterward calls and texts went down to maybe once a week. Still thick as thieves, they were like sisters and still paint twins even though Chloe couldn't paint anything to save her life.

When Chloe arrived at Duster and Braun, Kelly, a petite brunette with big teeth, showed Chloe into Mr. Braun's office, and he was just as excited to see her as Kelly had been. She'd head to the restroom and, hopefully, run into Kendra along the way. As she stood, Detective Johnson pushed off the wall and excused himself from Madame Larsson's clutches. Chloe went into the living room and picked up the last couple of days worth of take-out boxes: Chinese, Pizza, Taco wrappers, and ice cream containers. She peeled a taco off the wall. When Chloe finally made it back to the guest bedroom, Kendra had cleaned up and was fully dressed. It had a swing skirt with a black satin ribbon around the hem, and the top and sleeves were lace with a satin camisole slip she wore underneath.
