"What time is it? Shouldn't we be getting ready to go?" Chloe asked. It felt as though that massage lasted hours.

"We've still got nearly 4 hours."

"Oh."

"Now get up here but careful it might be slippery." Kendra had pulled the top sheet back about halfway and was sitting underneath scooted near the middle of the bed. Chloe climbed carefully up and onto the indeed slippery bed and crawled over to Kendra, who tossed the top sheet over them, so they were encased in luxury.

"Oh my god!" Chloe moaned against the smooth silkiness of the satin sheets.

"I know! It's so soft." Kendra stretched out flat and closed her eyes, obviously enjoying the feel of satin sheets. Chloe followed suit and slid down and under into the blissful satin pocket of delight. She lay there with her eyes closed, thinking of Detective Johnson and his light bulb offer. She might have to take him up on it

When Chloe finally made it back to the guest bedroom, Kendra had cleaned up and was fully dressed. So much for that decade's worth of sexual release, Chloe thought to herself and went off to look for a black dress. Chloe had managed to find a black dress that went to her knees. It had a swing skirt with a black satin ribbon around the hem, and the top and sleeves were lace with a satin camisole slip she wore underneath. She'd worn it once to a function for her father-in-law's car lot. She wasn't sure what it was, some kind of fundraiser, she thought. The funeral was pretty much uneventful long boring speech and prayer with the constant sobbing from Mark Harris throughout. Even though they had forgone the church service, they still had a preacher at the burial that for some reason, decided to make up for the lack of a service. Kendra sat next to Chloe in a black patchwork swing dress that made her look like she should be walking a catwalk somewhere. And how she could

After the appetizers at the car lot, Kendra and Chloe went to Screaming Brainfreeze. Chloe got Peach and Chong, and Kendra got Disco Lemonade. They sat in silence for a while and just enjoyed the drinks. "So have you decided what you're going to do yet?" Kendra asked. "No. But I'm on vacation for three more weeks. You're right, I need to live finally. I've been in a rut since I was fourteen. It's about time I got unstuck. I'm going to clean up a bit with the lawyer and stuff, then head to L.A. to Aunt Lane's." "Yup." Kendra slurped away the last of her drink. "Maybe I'll move to L.A. get far away from this shit hole. There's nothing left for me here anyway. Everyone's dead or gone." "True. That'd be awesome if you moved out there, Babe. Finally, the paint twins back in business!" "Maybe. But I do need something different." As soon as she said that

The next morning Chloe got up extra early and threw on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt Kendra had left for her so she wouldn't have to wear her Jon clothes. She was out of the house by seven and headed first to Starbucks for a white chocolate mocha, which she got with skim milk but wasn't sure if that made much of a difference. She then went to see her lawyer. She got to his office just before 8:00 a.m. and sat in her car a minute to send Kendra a text. What do you think of nude modeling? Wait, what kind of question is that for Kendra? Chloe shook her head and quickly texted Kendra: nvm She opened her door and headed into the office. Just as she was opening the door, she got a call. Really Kendra had to call her to give a response. "I said never mind," Chloe answered without looking. "Never mind?" She heard a low sexy voice that sounded very much li

  • Stranger Than Murder   Chapter 36: Chloe Gets Stuck

Chloe cut through the park, staying just within the trees lining the edge. She jumped or fell over a fence separating the housing development from the park and school. She walked along the hedge in the next-door neighbor's backyard and darted to the door and windows looking for a way in. One of Nicki's friends had taken Geoffrey, so she didn't have to worry about him giving her away. She thought she could try the kitchen window. It was too tall, so she looked around and found a planter to stand on. It was wobbly, but she found the window was actually unlocked. She was working on lifting the window. It was so damned stiff she pushed it up from one angle and then another, and it inched little by little. "Fuck! If I weren't so getting so fat, I wouldn't need to lift it this much." Chloe growled through gritted teeth. She finally managed to get it up and wiggled in, accidentally kicking the planter over, knocking it into a rickety-looking chair, which fell

Chloe stood surrounded by lights covered in silver paint again, and she was exhausted. She didn't think she could twist or jump or dance, let alone stand up anymore. She slumped in the chair and slid her feet into the house shoes that she'd left there."You can use the shower. I'll come scrub the paint off your back in a moment. You can stay here tonight the police won't clear you until tomorrow, so they'll still be looking to drag you in by your hair, no doubt." Kyle told her calmly as he cleaned up the area they had been working in."Oh, ok, thanks." She walked towards the back room. As she walked past him, he looked at her, then at the robe, she left in the chair, and he raised an eyebrow. She just shrugged and continued towards the door. She got in the shower and sighed under the hot spray of water, and layer after layer of paint swirled down the drain. The shower had multiple heads and settings. It was like being surrounded by an

Chloe pulled out of the car lot and saw flashing lights in the mirror. It was Detective Johnson's car. Seriously? She thought and rolled her eyes. He rapped on her window. "Hello, Liam." She said as she rolled the window down half an inch. "Nice, Jetta." "You were following me? Since when?" "Since you got out of Kyle Lautner's car." He told her. Kyle's car? She thought for a second. Oh! That's what Kyle meant by 'stall him for an hour.' "How long ago was that?" She asked the hot detective, wondering if maybe it was a good idea to team up with Kyle. If she could follow through with stalling Liam, Kyle would handle the rest, and she would be ok. "Hmm? Forty-three minutes and eight, nine, ten seconds." He told her, looking at his watch. "So you were the girlfriend he was fucking yesterday? You spent the night with him?" "Hmm? What are you referring to, Liam?" She squinted at him, assessing his furrowed brow, pursed lip

  • Stranger Than Murder   Chapter 39: Chloe Turns Herself In

She kept going over and over it as she glanced in the mirror every so often to see him. Seriously, how could I have ever been interested in him? He thought I was a murderer. Why would he be interested in me? He was coming to take me to prison. And all the while, he was flirting with me and trying to get me in bed. What did he have a fetish for killers or something? She got angrier and angrier the more she thought about it. Chloe wasn't entirely sure whom she was mad at, him or herself for almost falling for him. Then she remembered him telling her he had wanted a second taste before she 'expired.' Of course, he never once told her he believed she was innocent. He wasn't leading her on to believe she would go free. She was just blind to the fact that he thought she was guilty. When she got to the station, she headed to the front door. Detective Johnson pulled up and parked just in front of the fire lane, and jumped out of the car to head her off. "Wrong entrance." He

Chloe was stuck on a crossword puzzle. She had six words left and couldn't think of a single answer for any of them. Brownstone walked over to her desk, and Liam was shuffling behind her, looking a bit pale. Chloe looked at him, then dismissed him with a roll of her eyes and looked back at the paper. She asked Brownstone when she got closer, "What's a ten letter word for trustworthy." "Dependable." Brownstone answered without thinking. "Johnson was the lead detective on this, so I'll let him fill you in and walk you out. However, seeing how he tends to be rather difficult at times." She cut him a look and paused before continuing. "You can call me if you have any questions." Hmmm, thought Chloe as she thanked Brownstone and followed after Liam. She doesn't seem hard to me. Not that I know what that means anyway. Liam walked in silence all the way to Chloe's car and stood at the door averting his eyes. "Well?" She said after five minutes of silence and eye ave

"Maybe we can help distract each other," Jackson suggested. "Mmm." She moaned as he kissed her again, closed the door without leaving and carried her to bed. Chloe thought at long last something good would come of all this turmoil she had been through. She was tired of all the craziness and just wanted to have a night where she didn’t have to think about her dead husband, or neighbors, or the neighbors brother stalking her and running her down. “Aaahh..” Jax had somehow already stripped Chloe down to her bra and panties and had been squeezing her breasts like two stress balls before he pinched her nipples hard. “Can I?” Jax suddenly stopped and asked in a hoarse voice if he could take her bra off. Why now was he asking? He hadn’t asked about anything else.

  • Stranger Than Murder   Chapter 93: Chloe Wakes Up

Chloe woke up, she was in a family room of a split level house. She recognized it almost immediately as Veronica Moulton's. It was the house Veronica lived in with her mother, Gerri before they both got married and moved out. Gerri had gotten married and moved an hour out of town and left her house to Veronica. Later Veronica married Nicki and moved around the corner from Chloe. Chloe had never thought to ask what had happened to the house and Veronica never mentioned it, but here it was exactly as she remembered it. The furniture was the same though a bit dingier and the carpeting, wall fixtures, everything was as it had been when Veronica lived here. It didn't make sense to Chloe. Surely they would have taken their things with them and whoever the new owners were wouldn't want pictures of Veronica and her mother on the walls. Chloe blinked and noticed
