Raven’s POV
From the expression and look on Asher’s face, I could feel him trying to make sense of the situation, the wheels turning in his head.
His eyes seem to grow distant for a while like he’s communicating something to his betas through the mind link.
Suddenly, his expression changes from longing and want to that of fury.
Anger radiating from him, even the pack could feel it too, from the way they seem to scurry back away from him. Scared of him.
My father seemed tense and shocked. Sweat trickled down my back.
Have I done something wrong? What could suddenly be wrong? I thought, from my side eye I could see my mother glaring at me as if this was all my fault.
“What’s the meaning of this”. Asher asks in a booming voice
“How dare you tie her up like a slave! Let her go”. He directs his words to my father, who seem to flinch at his anger .
My father looked so scared right now, if not for the situation we are in i’d be laughing right now at the look on his face.
I didn’t think Asher would claim me as his mate right in front of everyone so soon.
Right, he still doesn’t know I'm a latent wolf. Once he finds out, I'm sure he won’t want me anymore.
“What do you mean your mate, Alpha Asher. That’s my daughter there who is supposed to go with you today as the exchange”. My father replies looking so anxious and scared.
“You mean your daughter who you sold to me to save yourself right?” Asher snarls at him and my wolf rolled with happiness, clearly liking his show of dominance and claim for her.
“I didn’t know she was your mate Alpha Asher, I wouldn't have tied her up.
I didn't want her to make a run for it”. My father says, trying to defend himself.
“Is this how you’ve been treating her? She is your daughter” Asher asks, looking at all the pack members present. None of them could look him in the eye.
“I don’t care if she is latent or not, she is my mateHe defended me.
This brought tears to my eyes. No one has ever stood up for me this way before.
Yes my little brother supports me but he doesn’t have it to stand up to my father for me.
My lover and childhood best friend Torren, who I had thought loved me so much and would be my mate, didn't even stand up for me either.
Instead I caught him cheating on me with another member of the pack, the one who had publicly disgraced me before and which he’s well aware of.
My wolf preens at him and if i could shift right now, she’d probably be rolling all over him, showing him her stomach and licking him until he’s marked with her scent. Then he suddenly turns to me
“Hello” that voice so raspy and thick with a baritone underneath made me wanna purr into him and ask him to keep talking.
I couldn’t seem to take my eyes off him and it seemed my voice chord wasn’t functioning properly right at this moment.
“Are you okay?” He asks with concern in his eyes. His eyes seem to rake all over my body, searching for any signs of discomfort or injury.
“Let’s take these chains off you first, okay” I nodded in response to him, I still seem unable to form words together.
He sniffs at me, a gesture I think to calm his wolf down and stop him from killing my father in a fit of rage. Mine, he growls.
“What’s your name beautiful” he asked me
“Ra…Raven” I answered, still feeling shy but comfortable in his presence.
My wolf nips at me, no doubt displeased at my tone. She wants to claim our mate right here just as he claimed her.
“Raven, that’s such a pretty name for a pretty thing like you.
Now Raven, you’re my mate and I’ve been searching for you for a while now.
It seems my present today is you, not something i would have guessed but i accept it all the same”
“You’re my mate” I say, trying to affirm it.
“Yes Raven, and now let’s make everyone here know how the dynamics of things are going to change from now henceforth” he says, before turning his back to me and addressing my pack.
Listen here everyone, Raven is my mate and I claim her here right in front of everyone.
Alpha Nicholas do you have any objections to this. He dared my father to say otherwise.
No objections, you can have her, she was meant to be yours anyway. Be careful, she likes running away.
She's a little stubborn, you might have your hands full. My father says still looking at me with so much disgust.
In a blur Asher is standing right in front of my father and has his hands on his neck in a choke hold manner.
You would not speak to my mate like that again, you will not look at her with such expression, you will not touch her, this is your last warning Nicholas. He says my father's name with disgust and fury.
My father tries to say something but can’t, Asher still has his hands on his neck.
Do I make myself clear on this Alpha Nicholas or do I have to take a stand on this. Asher asked him releasing the hold on his neck
I understand. I’m sorry for insulting your mate. It won’t happen again.
My father says looking very frightened and scared right now.
That’s good. Now we take our leave. It was nice doing business with you. Asher says to him in a snarl before walking back to me, sniffing me first to calm his wolf and picking me up bridal style before leaving the clearing with his betas following behind us.
Asher doesn’t say anything as we get to his car, he just puts me inside and climbs in followed by his betas.
“Where next, Alpha?” asked a man sitting at the driver's side, couldn’t quite see his face as he was backing me.
“Home” he replies. Home, that word alone seems foreign. Where is my home? Is my home finally with Asher now?
All these questions keep turning inside of me, giving me a headache. It seems Asher could sense a change in my mood because he suddenly wraps his hands around me.
Safe. My wolf relaxes in his embrace. Asher is my home now.
After what feels like hours we finally arrive at our destination. The shadow pack was huge.
The largest building I've ever seen stood tall amidst others, no doubt this is the Alpha’s house.
Though calling this monstority a house is a grave insult.
An archway rests at the entrance, six pillars holding up the roof. The mansion is constructed out of stones, marbles and wooden pillars.
Somehow seamlessly blending modern and ancient architecture together. I could see Asher is an Alpha of unique taste.
Judging from his outfit, his demeanor and now his mansion, I could just tell.
Asher's POVThe little woman in my arms looks so tense. I could understand, giving the situation of things and with the kind of reputation I had. I mean, I clearly just threatened her father with death not quite long. I really wonder why her wolf seems so quiet and doesn’t want to show herself. I could clearly see she was strong. Perhaps there's more to it and I'm going to have to figure it out.I had mind linked to Derek to inform the staff at home on our arrival and get everything set and coordinated when we arrive. The drive back to the pack didn’t take more than 30 minutes. Stepping out of the car, I could see her in awe of her surroundings. My pack is no small pack, no doubt bigger than the Shadow pack.We have worked hard to build all that we have now from scratch. My mansion is the biggest building in the pack, standing out amongst the others.“Come in, this is your home from now on”. I said ushering her inside the house. She shivered a little as I placed my hand on the base
Raven's POV Asher led me to a room, the room was so dark, you could sense the lack of a feminine touch here.“Well, this is our room Raven,” he said, switching on the light.“But it’s just one bed here. Are we sleeping on the same bed” i asked him“Yes Raven, i can’t allow my mate stay far from me” he says “But in my pack, my mother never stays in the same room with my father ever” I say looking up at him.“Well, maybe that’s your pack’s way of doing things. But, we don’t do that here in Shadow pack.I want you close to me, it helps calm my wolf and me”. He says with a hint of want and desire in her eyes.“Okay, I understand. I also feel the same way. What I mean is that my wolf totally agrees with you on that”. I said and I could see him trying to hide his smile.“Well then, let me leave you to change so you can come down for dinner”. He says, kissing my forehead before striding out of the room, closing the door behind. It all felt so surreal, with Asher out of the room I could fina
Asher’s POVThe scent of vanilla and roses wafted from the staircase to the dinning, indicating the Raven is on her way down. Raven came down and walked towards the dinning looking all radiant and beautiful in the dress I picked out for her.My wolf purred at her sight. The short yellow dress stopping at her knees, was stunning on her, guess I picked out the right size. The neckline and waist had thin strips of delicate lace with floral pattern emphasizing the deep-v neckline, showing a hint of cleavage, more fitted around her curves. The color was a perfect match to her blond hair, accentuating the color of her eyes. Her curves were enticing to touch. She rocked the dress so well my wolf wanted to claim her here and now in the presence of all our staff to show that she belongs to us.“Absolutely perfect” I murmured, standing up to meet her by the landing. I could feel the tension rolling off her as I neared. Too scared to look up at me, instead stared at her feet.I raised my hand
Asher’s POV“Alpha, there's a rogue wolf close to the pack's territory” Derek informed me through our mind link.“What of the enforcers?”“You asked them to guide the house”“And Dale?”“Can't reach him”“Fine, I'm on my way out now”“Come into the house, I want you guiding the house too”“Does this have to do with your mate?” He asks and I could sense the taunt in his voice. “Don’t you start with me now Derek”“You’ve become so possessive over her Asher”“Watch your tone, she’s my mate and soon to be Luna of our pack”“Yes. Yes, yes, I know that. I’m just teasing you, calm down” He said laughing“I’m on my way”Leaving Raven is difficult but it’s necessary, given the situation of things. My wolf urged me to go deal with the threat and return back to our mate.“I have something urgent to take care of, I'll be back soon. Don’t wait up, I might stay long, "I inform her.“Alright, I'll change and go to bed then”.Stepping outside the house, I met Derek on his way in.“I should come with
Raven’s POVMust have dozed off at some point, woke up and saw Asher leaning on the door frame, wearing all black, looking like an avenging angel.I could smell the scent of blood on him, but the shadows hid his face so I couldn't make out his expression, just his outline. He seemed to be staring right at me, a look of hunger and want.I sat up, fear and something else brewing inside of me. A wave of arousal hit me, my wolf was up and active and she liked the feral emotions rolling off our mate.Unable to say a word, but just kept staring at him, hoping he would move or say something. After a while, Asher stepped into the room, within the dominance of an Alpha.“Ash…Asher, what’s going on?” I asked him as he approached the bed.“Mine” was all he said. His wolf was so close to the surface, I could sense it. The tension in the room seemed to grow, my stomach clench in excitement at his closeness. The feeling of want encapsule me.“Tell me to stop now Raven” he says, trying hard to rai
Asher’s POVI startled awake, feeling the presence of someone prodding my mind .“You had better have a valid reason for waking me this early and disturbing from my sleep with my mate”“Asher you have to come down here now” Derek spoke with a hint of urgency in his tone. This had me sitting up immediately, this movement made Raven grumble under her breath, but continued sleeping.“What’s going on?” I asked“Isla is right here in your office, destroying everything and hurling abuses at the staff trying to stop her. She’s being hysterical and demanding to see you.”“I’ve tried holding her off but she’s holding a blade and threatening to paint your office with her blood if anyone tries to touch her” “Shit!” “Yeah, shit it is”“I’m sure you don’t want your mate to wake up to this, so i suggest you head downstairs and come deal with this”“On my way there now”. Putting on my clothes, I kissed the top of Raven’s head before heading downstairs.I’ve known Isla since we were kids and I kno
Raven's POV The moment Asher stood up from bed this morning, I was awake, feeling the loss of his warmth. Something was up and I could tell from the way he tensed up suddenly beside me.I quickly showered, putting on one of Asher’s shirts and shorts. I went in search of my mate.I had no idea where he could be and the house was so huge I didn't know where to start from. Asher is yet to give me the tour he promised.“Good morning miss Raven” a voice said from behind me, startling me“Holy shit!” placing a hand on my chest, i turned around to see who it was.“Sorry Miss Raven, didn’t mean to scare you”. A woman who looked to be in her early fifties dressed in a chef outfit gently apologized, bowing her head. She must be the cook.“Oh no, it’s fine, I guess I'm not used to such a big house and I assumed no one was here,” I say , smiling at her.“Do you want anything? Breakfast will be served in a bit” she said“No, I don’t need anything, but could you point me in the direction of the A
Raven’s POVI looked up and saw Asher staring at me, I knew he could see the questions whirling in my eyes.“Don’t come any closer. There are broken glasses everywhere, don’t want you hurting yourself” he says, moving towards me to where i stood by the door.He pulled me into a hug, sniffing me in, i could feel some of the tension leaving him before whispering to me“Let’s take that tour I promised now. I’ll have someone come clean up this mess”. Taking my hand, he leads me out of his office.“Hello there” said a voice, coming towards us. From a distance I could make out a figure, tall and huge. As he neared us, I could see the carbon copy of beta Derek standing in front of us.He must be his twin, I had seen this face on the day Asher came to claim me at my pack. Asher sighed in response to him.“Dale where have you been?” he asked himWith a look of resignation he replied “sorry Asher, my dead beat ass was so drunk last night”. I could detect a hint of sadness in his voice. Nodoub
Raven's POV Asher looked up at me dumbfounded with hurt in his eyes.“Okay, I think we all need to calm down now. Raven please calm down. You're hurting right now and we all know it.Let's not say hurtful things now, things we'll regret later.” Dale says, trying to douse the tension.“No, I'm calm now, calmer than I've ever been before.” I say, wiping away my rears furiously.“It's all Asher's fault. If he had only believed me when I told him Bryon was innocent. If he had trusted me enough and let my brother go, he wouldn't be dead now. My brother would still be alive by now, here with me.” I yell.I keep pacing back and forth the room, raking my fingers through my hair. Asher walks up to me slowly but I back away from him. “I can't, I can't right now. I can't do this anymore, Asher.”“What're you saying Raven? What do you mean by "you can't do this anymore?” He asks, breathing heavily.I shake my head, slowly drawing farther away from him.“It hurts too much. Everytime I see you,
Raven's POV Dead, dead, dead, those words keep ringing in my ears. My mouth hangs open and eyes widen in shock.I can feel the color drain out of my face. Asher tushes over to my side, trying to tell me something, I can't hear him but I see his mouth moving. It seemed like air was being sucked out of me. I struggle to breathe at the moment.“Raven, Raven, Raven!” Asher snaps and yells in my face. I turn to look at him.“That's it,” He says. “Just look at me and breathe with me. In…out, okay, just like that.” I follow his steps, breathing in and out until enough air gets into my lungs and I can finally breathe well.“Very good, you're doing well.” He commends with a sad smile. My brother, Bryon, is dead. “No, not Bryon. Bryon isn't dead. He's still waiting for me.” I say, hysterical.I try to get out of bed but as soon as my legs touch the ground, I stagger on my feet. A wave of dizziness hits me at once, causing me to sit back down on the bed. Asher and Dale move towards me at once
Asher's POV Arianna and King have been attending to Raven since we got back home. She looked so pale now, marks and bruises covered all her body. I could see the mark of a footprint on her stomach and rib cage. Those motherfuckers, I should have dragged out their death, made them suffer more before killing them for hurting my mate like this.I keep pacing back and forth in the room. Raven is deadly still and it scares me.“Alpha, I would need you to excuse us. Your pacing back and forth is distracting.” Arianna tells me.“I'm sorry, I'm just anxious and worried. She…she's not moving.” I muttered.“She'll be fine, we are doing our job but we can't keep getting distracted by you packing around, back and forth.” She gives me a stern look.I n9d my head, raising my hands in the air. *I'll excuse you, but I'll be right outside the door if you need me.“Thank you” she says, gesturing to the door for me to leave.I leave the room with Arianna slamming the door behind me. Damn! I can't even
Asher's POVFrom the movement Raven told me it was a trap set by Axton and Torren, I became cautious.I knew Axton had taken her but I didn't know he had someone with him too.Torren Shade, Raven's ex. Lucian had him investigated on our way and sent all his details to me.He was the lying and cheating ex who betrayed Raven. My guess is that he wants Raven to pay for leaving him.The bastard's not going to beg for mercy when I'm done with him. Raven's hurt, I can feel it.Axton, that motherfucker, I should have made sure he died in the building.“What's the plan now?” Dale asked as we neared the location on the tracker.“We go all in but be very cautious. It's a trap meant to lure me in and kill me and I'm sure it won't be easy.”“Then we stay alert and move as one.” Derek says, cocking his gun and checking the bullets.Luckily we still had some silver bullets we took from Alpha Nicholas guards during the last attack.“Okay, let's bring this motherfucker down once and for all.” Dale gr
Raven's POV Oh no, Asher's close, I can feel it. I struggle against the binds. “Let me go, let me go.” I shout.“Gag that bitch.” Axton commands “No, no, you can't.” I muttered. Torren comes over, placing a piece of cloth in my mouth, sealing my lips.I shout but it sounds muffled. “They are here, take her away and don't forget—” a look passes between them.Don't forget what? What are they planning to do to me?Torren loses the rope binding my legs, pulling me to my feet with my hair. I grunt out.“Move bitch.” He growled out, pulling me with him. I try to steel my feet, hoping to see Asher but Torren doesn't let me, he keeps dragging me away.I see Axton lay out some weapons before I'm finally pulled away from his view.We move deeper into the forest and stop at one point. The night air crackled with tension, fear of the unknown. Torren rips out the clothing from my mouth with force, causing me to wince in pain.I swallowed the knot in my throat, looking all around us in fear. T
Raven's POV I jolt awake, feeling disoriented, my head aches as I try to move. My legs and hands are tied together, preventing me from moving.Shit! Where am I? Who took me? And are we moving?I try to check my surroundings, but the space I'm in is so small, it looks like the trunk of a van.I'm in a moving van. Oh no! I've been kidnapped. Realization dawns on me on the situation I found myself in now.Asher! I need to tell him where I am, he must be worried about looking for me.But how can I tell him where I am when I can't even see. Nevertheless, I trace our connection. It hurts a t first, probably because of what I was injected with. But with the help of my wolf, I'm able to get to him “Asher, Asher.” I call softly. Asher's reply came immediately. “Ih thank the goddess Raven.” I wine a little as he speaks, it hurts in my head and a wave of dizziness threatens to pull me under.I clench my teeth, fighting hard to stay conscious. “Where are you? What happened?” He asked frantic
Asher's POV I was in the control room with Lucian, Liam and Derek when we heard Raven's panic button go off.The room fell silent. “Shit! What's going on?” I asked no one in particular “Do you have eyes on her inside the cell? Why would she press the panic button?” I asked Lucian. He typed away on his system, I kept pacing back and forth in the room, Raven's emotions were all over.I felt the sudden spike in her heart rate. Fear. Something bad is happening.“Come on Lucian, speak to me.” I urged him.“Here, she's not in her brother's cell.” He said, showing me the footage of the cell.“Check around, check all the wings, everywhere. She must be somewhere.” I said panicking.I tried reaching out to her, trying to communicate with her but she didn't respond. Her heart rate drops suddenly. She's unconscious.“Dale, Liam, come with me now to the dungeon, someone had knocked her unconscious. Let's go”. I commanded.“I'll inform you if I see anything or notice movements.” Lucian calls out
Raven's POV I snuggle into the warmth of a body, breathing in his scent, letting it calm me.The activities of yesterday and everything that happened comes rushing down on me.I suddenly remember everything, the yelling, the hurtful words thrown at each other.I jolted awake, sitting up in bed, my movement cause Asher to stir in his sleep. I look down at his sleeping form.He snuggles the pillow closer to himself, breathing it in. Shaking my head at him, I get up from bed and pad to the bathroom. As I was leaving the bathroom, I heard the sound of his voice. “Yes, yes, that's okay, I'll check it out and get back to you.” He says.I guess he's on the phone. Paying no mind to any of his business, I entered the bedroom, avoiding eye contact with him.I could feel his eyes tracing my every move but I refuse to acknowledge it or him.“Raven, Raven come in, you can't keep ignoring me anytime we have a disagreement.” I don't respond, I dey my hair and change into my clothes. Staring at the
Asher's POV I give Derek a side look and he raises one brow at me in question. We all heard Raven's conversation with her brother, but do we believe it or not?“What do you think? Do you think he's telling the truth?” I ask.“Sincerely, I can't tell. From the tone of his voice it shows he loves his sister very much.” “But does he love her that much not to betray her for money and power? People do anything just to gain power, her father is an example.” I say.“I know, but her father never cared for her, she was just a tool for him to use and manipulate as he wishes.” Derek says, leaning against the bars of the cell.I rale my fingers through my hair, frustrated and tired. When Raven gets here, she'll want me to let her brother go and I can't do that.He hasn't earned my trust. I don't believe all he said was the truth, for all we know he might be making it all up to gain sympathy from Raven.“You don't believe him right?” Derek asks.“I feel he's telling the truth in my opinion, b
