SHE FELT like there was a hole inside her chest. The dreadful feeling started to overwhelm her, and she did not know how to explain it to her best friend. All she knew was that the entire situation had escalated in the worst way possible, and if Jasper had told her the truth, then Ethan was still in danger.

Megan squeezed her hand, guiding her to sit on the bench in the long hallway. She gasped for air, and swallowed the big lump in her throat.

"Are you okay? What did he tell you?" Megan inquired in a worried tone. "You look pale."

"He said that the person behind all this mess is one of Ethan’s families," she answered, gazing at Megan. "He’s one of them, and there are only two men in the Steinfields—his dad and..."

"Jacob," Megan supplied.

"What if he’s telling the truth, Meg?" She bit her lower lip and tried so hard not to cry. "What if it’s really one of them? How am I supposed to face this? How am I supposed to tell Ethan? He won’t be able to accept it."
