“Is she okay?”
“Hush.”
“I am asking you if she is okay.”
“She’s not!”
I opened my eyes due to the annoying voices I can here.
“Can you please shut up?” I groaned and look at them one by one. I can smell the disinfectant and the chemicals around the air. White there are white painted walls and a big window on my right.
“She’s awake!” Marco screamed.
Wait? Marco?
He’s here?
How?
Why?
“Hurry call the doctor!” Helene immediately left the room to call a doctor.
“Where am I?” I asked Marco, who’s on his knees praying to me like I was a saint. He kept muttering, ‘Thank God.’ And I don’t know why.
“Marco Levin!” I called his attention. He look at me with shock as if he’d seen a ghost. I rolled my eyes on his reaction and used my hand to wack his head.
“God! You are awake!” He thanked. I glared at him and showed my clenched fist. He immediately took a step back.
“You know, for someone who woke up after passing out in the elevator you are quite sadistic,” he blurted.
“Of course, I am always like this.” I forced myself to sit on the bed. So I really did pass out after in the elevator. That damn that anonymous sender!
“You never passed out before, Emilia.” He said. I click my tongue to express my annoyance. He really is an idiot sometimes. How can he forget that I did passed out when I was in college.
“Wait-”
Before he can say a thing the door opened and a doctor rushed in along with the nurses and Helene.
“Hello Miss Emilia. How are you feeling?” the doctor said after checking my vital signs. The nurses on the other hand arrange the furnitures and a bunch of flowers from my fans.
So, the press knew that The Great Emilia De Lapaz passed out in the elevator.
“I am doing fine, thank you.” I replied.
“Do you want to eat something?” he asked again.
I gave him a blank stare. “No.”
“How about the room?”
“What about it?”
“Do you like it?”
“No.” I answered. I clenched my fist in annoyance and smiled at him sarcastically. I glanced at Helene and gave her a ‘what the heck is this?’ look. She knew that I am getting annoyed.
“What? Why?” I closed my eyes at his question. He is not satisfied and even added, “Do you want to be transferred to another suite?”
“Can’t you be less annoying?” I asked him directly. He is getting into my nerves, asking too many unrelated questions.
“I-I I’m sorry,” he stammered.
I raised my brow and look at him intently, waiting for his answer.
“It’s just. You are my idol.” He smiled and gave me a pen and paper.
“Is that a discharge form?” I asked him. He bit his lip as he blush in embarrassment. I can see Marco from my peripheral vision, trying his best to contain his laugh. The nurses continued arranging their flowers, but I know that they are eavesdropping this conversation.
“Doctor Lee wants your autograph, Miss.” Helene butted in. My gaze shifted towards her and gave her a shocked look, even though I wasn’t shock.
“Is that so?” I clarified. Helene nodded and gave me a pleading look.
“Yes Miss Emilia. I really prayed that somehow I can meet you in person,” the doctor explained and continued to stretch his arms to give me his pen and paper.
Even though I am cold-hearted, I am not that bratty to refuse a fan. After all, he is also my doctor. Lets just be reminded that this is a give and take situation too.
I opened my right palm to received the pen and paper. I signed it with my my initial and gave it to him. “I hope this is enough to thank you.”
“This much appreciated ,Miss Emilia,” he grinned, showing his perfectly white teeth.
“So, when am I going out from this place, Doc?” I inquired. “I can’t wait to leave this place.”
“Tomorrow, Miss,” he answered. It was more of a sing than an answer. Maybe he is still overjoyed that he received my signature. Good, because I don’t do it for free.
“Good.” I clapped my hand gracefully.
“How is she, Doc?” Helene took his attention. Another good thing. I don’t want to talk to him anymore. He just drained my energy with his positivity.
“So far, she is recovering well.” He smiled and glance at me. “But she needs to avoid stress and toxicity for quite some time.”
“Is that all, Doctor?” This time Marco joined the conversation and winked at the one they call Doctor Lee.
“Yes, sir.”
“Oh please! Do call me, Marco.” Marco flirted. The doctor awkwardly laugh and excused himself along with his nurses.
“Good thing they left.” I rolled my eyes at Helene’s statement.
“Oh come on!” Marco rejects and added, “Doctor Richard Lee is too cute to be annoying.”
I face palmed and Helene awkwardly sighed. We refuse to look at his direction.
“You’re so mean!”
I glared at the bird who passed by the window. It’s almost night. The orange skies slowly changed to a dark blanket of stars.
“How long was I out?” I wondered as I continued to stare at the view.
“Two days,” I heard Helene sighed.
Two days.
I just wasted two days. That damn sender really knew how to make me paralyze in my seat. How can they do this to me?!
My fist turned into a ball.
“Hey, hey.” Marco grabbed my attention. His eyes were wide open.
“What?” I asked.
“I contacted your father,” he stated and look at me with shock.
“And?”
“He said that you should report to him tomorrow after your discharge.”
“What? Why?” I am confused. Usually, my dad don’t give a shit about my whereabouts not unless it is related to my career. He even forgets my birthdays and every special event that I hold personal in my heart.
“I don’t know.” He shrugs. “Should I ask him?”
He scrolled to his phone again and type something.
“No need.”
“Oops!” he squealed.
“What?”
“I just sent it to your father!”
“Huh?”
Okay. I am confused. What is he talking about?
“I told him that you’re asking why you need to report to him,” he explained. I groaned and close my eyes to stop myself form shouting at him.
“You are such-”
A knock interrupted my supposed scold at him.
“What?” I yelled.
Helene who’s watching TV, stood up and opened the door. “Come in.”
I glared at the man who just entered the suite. His black coat and black cowboy hat covered his identity but his perfume is enough to let me know his identity.
“What are you doing here?” I snarled. He clicks his tongue and walk towards my bed.
“Is that how you welcome your visitors?” he asked. Amusement glittered in his dark hooded eyes. I physical asset I didn’t inherit from him.
“I don’t need to repeat myself twice, dad.” There’s acid in my mouth. If Cairo is in the top of my hate to death list, my dad ranks first in the annoying to death list.
“You’re still mean.” He shook his head. I breathe and rolled my eyes.
Don’t get me wrong. I am thankful that he is my dad. His riches gives me power and fame but his annoyance as my boss is too much. I mean, he’s acting like a father too, but most of the time he is my boss.
Being a daughter of a CEO is not fun at all. Instead of giving me a princess and VIP treatment, I was treated like scraps when I first entered the company. And thanks to my beauty and wits, I am now one of the people on top of the food chain. I work hard for my success!
“I am here to personally inform you about your vacation,” he announced.
“So now you’re giving me a vacation just because I passed out in the elevator?” I sarcastically asked him. He laughed and sit at the chair near my bed.
“You bet.”
“Yeah whatever, Mr. CEO.”
I heard Marco chuckled and Helene sighed. I glared at them at stared at my dad like he has grown two heads.
“I assure you. You will have the vacation you deserve.”
I faked gasps then made a serious face. “You’re kidding.”
“Sadly, I am not.”
I scoffed. I know him, he won’t take no for an answer. And if you responded yes, prepare yourself for something called ‘mission’. For him, everything is a game. He can manipulate us like pawns bowing to their king. Even if I am his daughter, I am no exception to that rule.
“What’s the catch?” I asked.
A proud smile is written in his face. “Attend the Clan Reunion.”
“Where?” Marco asked.
I rolled my eyes when he butted in.
“Seviwood.”
“You’re kidding right?” I asked dad.
“I’m not.”
Seviwood, huh? A province where the Buenavistas rule like gods. My clan is really dumb in picking that place. They can choose any province or city in this country, yet they chose Seviwood. Great!
“How many days is it?” I shifted my position to look at his eyes intently.
“About a week.”
“How about my vacation?”
“A month to wherever you want,” he answered. I smiled sarcastically at his offer.
This gives me enough time to relax and find that damn anonymous sender!
“Looks like I have no choice, but to agree.” This time I smiled wickedly. He grinned and handed me the contract. Every time my dad makes a deal, a contract is needed. This is to ensure that no one messes with him.
I signed the paper and gave it to him. We shake our hands like how I use to do when I receive a new contract.
“Seviwood. Here I come, again.” I muttered beneath my breath.
"I didn't expect you to agree to his offer, Lia." Marco, who's busy shuffling the music from my playlist, glanced at me with confusion. "What offer?" I asked. I tapped the steering wheel as the traffic didn't bother to move. It's been three hours since we left home to travel into that stupid town. "You know, going back to Seviwood," he sang. The traffic is annoying, but Marco is more annoying. If he didn't make a plea to my dad to let him attend the reunion, maybe I am alone in my car playing Taylor Swift's songs over and over again. Seviwood is an approximately five-hour drive from Esterlight, traffic excluded. Now we are
"Oh, My God!"Aunt Meryl screamed as soon as she recognized me. She tackled me with a hug, which I didn't expect from her."Hi, Auntie." I awkwardly bit my lip and hug her back. Fortunately, before she can ask me her offensive questions like, 'Why are you so skinny?' Marco Levin interrupted by faking a cough.Thank you."Oh! Is that Marco?"Finally! I have escaped from her hug. She walked towards Marco, who's already opened his arms to welcome Auntie's warm embrace. I rolled my eyes to insult him, but he just smirks."I am so glad that Lucia's daughter brought you here!" Auntie exclaimed. She even mentioned me as her older sister's daughter, which is awkward. I am the only daughter my mother and father have in their five kids."Yeah," Marco replied."Why don't we com
Chapter 10“Ahhhh!”A scream made me stop walking along the crowd. I glanced at the owner of the high pitched voice and saw my cousin, Andromeda rushing towards us wearing her pink bikini and strap sandals.“Be careful, Andromeda!” Aunt Meryl shouted. She’s really protective towards her only daughter.I rolled my eyes when she tackled Marco to the ground. My friend squealed and they both laugh at the sands. I rolled my eyes and just walk away from their place.“Annoying humans!” I muttered, “Who are they to act like they missed each other like they’re cousins?”I wore my sunglasses and walk along a group of teenagers who’re probably around their early twenties. They are having fun and I am not. I look like an outcast in this group. Good thing I am wearing my black swimsuit, beach hat and a gorgeous pai
Chapter 11 Emilia’s “Fuck!” He shouted and let go of my chin. I am still standing in front of him, tears are streaming down on my face as I look at his figure in the shadows. I can not believe that this man just grab me by his palms and drag me to this house. God knows I don’t even have time to check out this place! And I don’t know if this is all fake or somewhat an illusion. Maybe this is a dream! I am so lost right now. I can feel my salty tears dripping towards my bear feet as I continue to stare at him. His black suit have crooked and he continued to run his fingers through his hair. The moon arise from the surface and shines through the windows making him appear in a sinister way. “This is a nightmare right?” I asked. I can feel the another storm making it’s way to my system when his dark eyes look at me with despise.
Chapter 12Cairo’sI smirk when I received an email from Sullivan.Mr. Cairo Buenavista,I have informed your grandmother about the schedule of the announcement of the will and testament.Your lawyer,Atty. Jonathan SullivanI closed my laptop after reading his email. I smirked while thinking about the announcement two days from now. I can’t wait to see each and everyone’s reaction when they hear that the great Arturo gave his riches to his most favored grandson.I fixed my tie and lean towards my office chair- relaxing my tensed muscles. It has been a week since I saw my grandfather’s funeral and I have no plans on going back on our mansion until I have found a woman who is worthy to become my bride.I paced through my office with my eyes stick
Chapter 13Emilia’sIt’s two am in the morning and I have seen some of my cousins almost passing out. I have no choice but to be to join them. I can feel myself sober up after walking out of Cairo’s place.“I can’t believe him!” I exclaimed. My cousins look at me with confusion. The music stopped and saw their intense stares at me. Asking an answer why I just reacted like that.“What are you talking about, Emilia?” they asked.I just shook my head and drink the can of beer that was handed to me by my cousin, Andromeda. I saw her flirting with some random dude she just met. Marco who was talking with my one of my cousins move towards my direction.“What was that?” he asked while wiggling my brows. I ignored his goofy face and just sip from my can of beer.He giggled and smelled my
Chapter 14Emilia’sI woke up feeling happy for an unknown reason. I don’t know how and what happened, but I just found myself smiling on as I opened my eyes.Perhaps I had a good dream. How many shots did I take last night?Maybe I picked up a case of beer on the way here. Those were my thoughts when I glimpse at the carpeted floor where my clothes were scattered along with some beer cans.“What time is it?” I asked myself. I yawned and move my head opposite to the side where the windows wont hint my face directly.I placed my head into the soft warm pillow and smell the strawberry scent.“Heaven,” I murmured while sniffing my pillow. I should by more strawberry scented pillows or maybe strawberry scents for my diffuser.I snuggled more int
Chapter 15 “I missed you,” he breathe on my ear. After being stoned for about a second. I pushed his body away from me, making him stumble backwards hitting the wall. “What the fuck?” I asked in disbelief. What is he doing here anyway? And how did he knew that I was going to change my look? “Don’t you miss me back my sweet?” he teased and went beside me again. Why is he acting like this? I am so confused by Cairo’s action right now. He is even wearing a polo that totally matched my dress. What is his problem? Why does he smell so good? And how come he’s still here? “My problem is you wont admit that you desire me,” he answered out of the blue. I turned my gaze towards him. He just smirk and gave me a wink. Did I just say my thoughts out loud? “You are now.”
Chapter 24Emilia’s It’s been days since the hot man who visited the Buenavista’s mansion wandered my mind. I don’t know him but he seems very familiar. I don’t know if I have seen him before, but I really hope not. It’s also been days since Cairo is been feeling unwell and uneasy. I don’t know if it’s the search for Lucille that bothered him or something else. We still continued to pretend that everything is okay in front of our families and I don’t know if I can keep up with all the dramas that has been happening. “Do you think she’s still alive Emilia?” my best friend, Andreana asked as she sipped her hot tea. After that hectic engagement party, I have along with the Buenavista’s last night, I decided to cure my hang over by talking to her and her sister.&nbs
Cairo’s “Don’t tell me you want to make me do that job again.” I scoffed at Gregory. The idiot did his best to hide his smirk while looking at the ground intently, burning his gaze to the old grasses. “He wants you to do it for him,” he replied. I spit to the ground, aiming it near his well-polished shoes. He let out a sigh and handed fished a hanky on his suit. “He can help you track his daughter.” “Do I look like I need his help?” “He believes that you need it.” I smirk played on my lips as I watch Emilia Lucille walking further away from me and from the dangers I have. I don’t remember anythin
Chapter 22 “Tell me to shut up and I’ll scream your name,” I sang as I went outside the mansion. It has been days since I started calling this my home, and Cairo’s room as mine too. We’ve been playing this game for almost a week now and I don’t know if it his gestures are genuine or is it part of an act. Well, I don’t know if I can keep up with his game either. “What’s so good this morning, Señorita Sumeria?” The devil asked while smirking at me. He is wearing his casual wear today and I am glad that he matched his shirt with my white tank top. “Well, now you just ruined my mood,” I whined. He let out a chuckle and wiggle his brows.&nbs
Chapter 21After that hasty engagement scene, I couldn’t utter a word to Cairo nor say anything to explain myself to my family. Even on my social media, I saw stolen photos of me during that ‘awe-so-cute’ moment though my facial expression is fit for funerals.“You should have told me soon about this Hijo!” Missis Matilde Buenvista, his grandmother said. She just woke up from passing out after hearing the news from Cairo the great.I didn’t agree to this plan not even once. But then, I came to realize that this is our game and I can’t do anything about it. I have participated in this the moment I fought back to him. And it literally sucks to know that I can’t do anything but let him lead the way.I am more in reacting than doing things to win this game. And I am starting to hate it.“Grandma, I was hoping to tell
Chapter 20Dinner is great. I would be a liar if I say I didn’t enjoy the food and my company. But that doesn’t mean that my annoyance for Cairo lessen a bit.It still there, it just happens that he’s behaving properly over dinner. He should be! After all my he’s just a visitor in our mansion.“Hija.”All eyes went to my mother when she called me. I didn’t realize she’s on the mini stage holding a microphone in hand. I look at her with my brows furrowed. I don’t get it but I get this chill that something is not right today.“Yeah?” I asked absentmindedly. I even heard Cairo chuckled beside me.My mom smiled at me and nods. Then she look over the crowd and opened her mouth for her big announcement.“Today is a very special day.”I nod, agreei
Chapter 19“Yeah, a total good luck to me.”What the fuck is he doing here? I spin and then prepared my fist to punch his handsome devil face but he is quick to dodge.“Woah,” he said in amusement. There was a glint of happiness in his dangerous eyes. I hissed and rolled my eyes. He’s enjoying this moment too much. “What are you doing here, Cairo?” I asked in annoyance. I pushed his body away from me. I stormed towards my room and I heard his footsteps following me.“I am here to ask a permission to you,” he said.“I thought you said that you don’t need my consent on things?”“Well, I badly need one now.”I scoffed upon hearing his response. I went inside the room and leave the door open. I didn’t both
Chapter 18 It’s been two days since we had a that fight. He left my hotel room and never came back ever since. It was quite a good move though, since I don’t want to see his face. I never wanted to be with him anyway, ever again. “Can’t you be less annoying?” I heard Andreana said over the phone. My eyes went to her direction and saw her calling someone over the phone. “Who’s that?” I asked. She lift her palm and mouthed, “Just a minute.” I nod and stare at the view in front of me. I took a deep breath and feel the cold fresh air. Who knows that I will be climbing this hill again? “And I’m back,” Andy declared and stood beside me. “How relaxing.” I nod my head in agreement. The sun is not showing it’s prideful rays today and only the gray clouds covered the whole area in such protective manner. “
Chapter 17My thoughts kept bugging me after that conversation with Andreana. I paced back in forth in my room while asking the same question she has before we parted ways.“Do you know where she is?” Andreana asked. I sighed and then look at the ground.I felt her palms on my shoulders. I look at her concern eyes as she kept a straight face. She let out a deep breath and then look at me. Her blue lenses glared at the wall as if she just saw an enemy. I spin and followed her gaze then saw a man wearing a gray tuxedo rushing towards out direction.“Who the fuck is he?” I asked her. I heard her cuss under her breath. Being about seven inch shorter than her is pain in the ass. I sometimes wish she can just chop her legs just so I can see every expression she has.“I gotta go,” s
Chapter 16“Oh my God!”“What happened to her?”I can hear my mom screaming through the hallway. I groaned and keep still on Cairo’s arms. I don’t want to be close to him again but I have no choice but to use his body ‘cause I am temporarily blind.“Auntie Lia was sand attacked by my Farren.” I heard Caleb said. He probably followed us to whatever this place is.“It was an accident Granny,” Farren explained.I just sighed and heard Eunice scolding the kids on the background. I can hear Farren crying and Caleb yelp. My mom on the other hand talk to Cairo about what really happened.“It was just a sand castle fight, Mrs. De Lapaz,” he said. I felt his palm rub my thighs slowly as if comforting me. Well, I am not comfortable by his touch. This is just too much.
