"What happened?"
Sierra held Callie’s hand and sat next to her. She looked up, wiping her tears as Axton stood in front of her—standing beside Callie, who was now lying on her bed after Axton had brought her into the room.
Luckily, Axton had arrived shortly after Callie fainted. Sierra didn’t know what she would’ve done if Axton hadn’t come quickly when she screamed and repeatedly called Callie’s name.
"Callie’s condition has worsened lately. What were you two talking about that made her faint, Sierra? The maid said Callie was crying with you." There was something different in Axton’s voice, and Sierra knew what it was.
Everything that had happened just a few minutes ago vanished, and now the air was thick with tension as if they were no longer two people who had ever touched.
"I told her you had paid off my debt, and I got my house deed back. I think she got emotional because she was worried I wouldn’t follow through with our agreement. I already—"
"Why did you tell her that?" Axton cut her off.
Sierra shook her head. "I don’t know why I said it. I never hide anything from Callie—it’s just my habit. She came into the room and almost saw us together, and I panicked, and my mind became a mess."
"Do you realize that what you did might have endangered Callie, Sierra?" Axton’s anger was evident as Sierra met his eyes. Those dark eyes were filled with emotion—worry, anger, fear, and perhaps frustration. "I helped you pay off your father’s debt, not to find my wife fainted. I thought you would understand that and not do something foolish that would make Callie sicker."
"Do you think I wanted all of this?" Sierra could feel her voice trembling.
No. Of course, she didn’t want any of this.
If only everyone knew how much Sierra wished she could take Callie’s place and endure all her pain. If only everyone knew she would do anything to help her best friend. Even if she didn’t need the money to pay off her debt, she would still help without expecting anything in return.
Axton sighed deeply, then sat on the bed, taking Callie’s other hand in his. He lowered his head, repeatedly kissing the back of her hand, while Sierra remained silent, watching it all unfold.
She could see how much Axton loved Callie, and it always made Sierra happy for her best friend. She knew Callie deserved all that love, and she hoped Callie would always receive it.
"I’m sorry, Sierra," Axton said, glancing at her. "I’m just so worried about Callie, and it’s driving me crazy."
Sierra nodded. "I’m also sorry for what I did. I should have known not to say anything to her, so this wouldn’t have happened." She looked at Callie, who was still lying there with her eyes closed. If only she had been more careful.
"Callie’s been more emotional these past few months, and I’ve been trying my best to keep her from overthinking things. But she’s stubborn, and it’s been making me lose control."
Sierra nodded in agreement.
She had known Callie longer than Axton had, and she wholeheartedly agreed with what he said.
Callie was always stubborn. And maybe that’s why she always got what she wanted. She fought for it, unlike others who would often give up.
"I don’t care about anything else besides her, even if it means we never have children."
Sierra squeezed Callie’s hand tightly and let out a long breath. This conversation was heading in a direction that made her uncomfortable.
Years ago, she remembered Callie talking about how they should have houses next to each other once they were married so their children could play together all day.
Years ago, Sierra remembered how happy Callie had been when she told her that a man was asking her to go on a date. She was so excited that she called her right when Sierra was about to interview for a job.
A funny coincidence. That same day, Sierra was interviewed to become Axton’s secretary, and it turned out he was the man Callie was dating.
Now, the three of them were in a complicated situation, and Sierra knew she would never have that house next to Callie, even if she eventually married and had children.
"That’s why I really need you to understand that we have to be careful when talking to her, Sierra," Axton’s voice broke through her thoughts. "I know you love her deeply and would never want anything bad to happen to her. You’ve known her longer than I have, but I need to be clear—I won’t accept anything that could hurt Callie."
Sierra nodded once again. "I know, Axton. I’m sorry for what I did. I didn’t think the consequences would be this bad," she said.
After that, there was no more conversation between them.
The room became silent, and Sierra just sat there, waiting for her friend to open her eyes.
"Callie?"
Sierra felt movement in Callie’s hand and saw that she was starting to wake up. She squeezed her hand tightly, waiting for Callie to open her eyes.
"Oh God, Callie." Axton immediately hugged Callie when she finally opened her eyes.
"I’m fine," Callie said, releasing Sierra’s hand to return Axton’s embrace. He still seemed very worried about what had happened.
Sierra saw this and quietly moved away, giving Callie and Axton some privacy. She didn’t need to hug Callie or stay there for long—what mattered most was that she knew her best friend was okay. That was enough for her.
She didn’t say a word as she headed for the door. But Callie’s voice stopped her in her tracks, making her turn around to see Callie reaching out toward her. "Stay here, Sierra. Sleep here with me. I need you."
Sierra was shocked by Callie’s request. But she knew she could never refuse Callie’s words.
The problem was whether she should sleep in Callie and Axton’s room when she had just slept with Axton the night before.
***
She hadn’t brushed her teeth yet and needed to use the bathroom.
It had been hours since Callie fell asleep, and eventually, she had drifted off beside her best friend. But she woke up in the middle of the night for one clear reason—she needed to pee.
Callie was still sleeping soundly, and Sierra thought she could use the bathroom quickly before returning to sleep in her friend's room. She quietly stepped toward the bathroom on the left side of the room. After some effort, she found the light switch, as it seemed Callie couldn’t sleep with even a single light on.
As soon as the light turned on, Sierra froze at the sight of someone sitting in the bathtub in the middle of the night.
“Oh God!”
She immediately turned away when she realized Axton was sitting in the bathtub. She was sure he was naked, and she felt incredibly guilty for entering the bathroom without knocking first. Or maybe it was Axton’s fault for soaking in the bath with the lights off.
“I’m sorry. I’ll use the bathroom in my room,” Sierra said, backing away without turning her head.
“Sierra,” Axton’s voice stopped her.
Sierra wasn’t sure whether she should turn around or keep walking out of there.
“Yes?” she answered.
“You can use this bathroom. I won’t disturb you. What do you need?”
Sierra swallowed hard.
Should she really stay? Or should she leave and do what she needs to do?
“Do you… have a spare toothbrush?”
Stupid. She sounded so stupid asking that.
“You can find one in the cabinet under the sink. Everything you need is there.”
Sierra nodded and immediately walked toward the sink on the opposite side of the bathtub. From there, Axton was mostly hidden by a frosted glass divider that reached neck height. There was a toilet beside the sink, meaning she could use it without feeling too uncomfortable since Axton couldn’t see her. He was nearby, but the glass kept them physically separated.
Sierra quickly did what she needed to do. She only wanted to brush her teeth and then go back to sleep next to Callie, leaving Axton to his bath.
She found a new toothbrush and washed her face at the sink. She’d skip her night skincare routine today, and that wasn’t a big deal. After all, she didn’t care much about it and only bought the products because Callie insisted.
“Ah,” she tensed up when she heard Axton’s low groan.
He was clearly trying to be quiet, hoping Sierra wouldn’t hear him. But in a silent room, even footsteps could sound like an explosion. So how could she not hear him?
Axton was still there. His hands were moving, seeking his own satisfaction in the middle of the night.
Once again, a battle raged in Sierra’s mind.
She knew what was happening. She knew what Axton was doing to himself. And unfortunately, she also knew why.
As soon as she finished, she quickly washed her hands—hoping the running water would wash away all the sins she was about to commit.
“Axton,” Sierra found herself standing stiffly in front of the bathtub. She didn’t know when she had taken the steps to get there, but she couldn’t undo them now. Her fists clenched as she regretted every step that had brought her here. “May I help you?” she asked softly.
Axton’s eyes remained locked on her, sharp even in the throes of lust that consumed him.
Sierra had started something with this man, but she hadn’t finished it properly, choosing instead to run off and talk to Callie.
Now, she had to finish it the right way.
“Are you serious?” Axton asked, watching Sierra as she began to remove her pajamas, placing them carefully aside so they wouldn’t get wet.
She stepped closer and began to climb into the bathtub, joining him. Taking a deep breath, she gently moved Axton’s hands away from his body and replaced them with her own touch. She nodded briefly. “I’m serious,” she said calmly.
Sierra closed her eyes as she felt Axton's hand begin to move down, caressing her private area. Once again, she lost herself in the intense sensation that gripped her, making it impossible to pull away."Ah," she bit her lip tightly, struggling to keep any sounds from escaping. She hoped she had locked the bathroom door or that, at the very least, this place was soundproof so no noise would slip out of this room. Her eyes remained shut as she felt water trickle down her face, following the path of Axton’s fingers as if drawing a trail on her chest. His lips were there, and Sierra really hoped he would end this game quickly, just as she wanted.Sierra was entirely prepared when Axton lifted one of her legs and guided himself inside her. Her eyes stayed closed, but now her hands searched for something to hold on to as Axton moved in and out of her. He pushed hard, his hands gripping her waist tightly as if setting a rhythm for their movements.Sierra felt as if she were going crazy. She
Flashback5 Years Ago…Axton frowned as two women approached his table. One of them, with black hair, was waving at him. The other had blonde hair, and Axton swore he recognized her face.“Hey, Axton. Sorry for being late. I had to drag Sierra out of her room to accompany me here, and she was really hard to pull out,” the black-haired woman smiled while rolling her eyes.“Wait,” Axton muttered, furrowing his brows. This morning felt as crazy as the mornings before.Sierra didn’t know how to face Axton after what happened between them last night. To be honest, she could never shake off everything they had done, and it frustrated her.Throughout her life, she had only dated a few times and never slept with any of them. She only kissed, and that was the boundary she offered to her boyfriends. She had been busy working because she needed money, and she couldn’t remember the last time she dated—maybe two or three years ago. Then, suddenly, she slept with a man who had no ties to her whatsoever. If she felt emotional afterward, was that a normal thing? After walking quite a distance from Callie and Axton’s house, Sierra finally had time to think about everything that had happened. Maybe she would go crazy if she had to stay longer at the dining table and act as if everything was fine when her head was so noisy with all her wild thoughts.A car horn startled her steps, and she cursed inwardly—damning w
“You didn’t fire them, did you?” Sierra walked into Axton’s office after waiting for 15 minutes until the three women from the finance department left. She had wanted to go in earlier but knew she couldn’t. She couldn’t argue with Axton while his employees were in the room.“You don’t need to worry or care about them, Sierra. I’ll hire new employees if that’s what I need,” Axton said flatly.“What?” Sierra couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “Look, they won’t stop talking about rumors about me if I keep working with you. Honestly, it’s not entirely their fault, and I want to say that they’re not completely wrong about the things they’re saying about me.”“So, you’re just going to stay quiet after they called you a slut?”“They didn’t call me that—I admitted it myself. Do you think I’m not a slut after the deal we made?” Sierra almost laughed at herself for saying such a thing. But before she could, Axton grabbed both her arms and suddenly pushed her.She was shocked by his actions.
Sierra might burn in hell after everything she has done. However, she knew that she had no choice in her life. She had let everything fall apart and might make it even worse over time."How about your life, Sierra? We hardly ever see you because Callie says you're always busy. Where do you work now?"Sierra lifted her head from the teacup in her hands and looked at Amy, a brunette woman who had just asked her the question."Me?" She smiled briefly, "Nothing has changed in my life. I still work at Callie's husband's company until now.""Wow, you've been working there for so long. Don't you have any plans to work somewhere else?"Sierra didn’t understand why Callie brought her friends home and ended up throwing a tea party in the backyard. Surprisingly, she was also expected to join the tea party."Guys, Sierra is the best secretary Axton has ever had. She works well and rarely makes mistakes. My husband needs a secretary like her to help with his work. So, I hope you don't make Sierra
Sierra ended up unable to sleep all night as she thought about what might happen to her.She had never imagined she would find herself in a situation where she might be pregnant. Sierra could hardly believe what was happening. This morning, she had experienced so many baffling events. It started with her conversation with Axton, going to the hospital with Callie, their argument, and her meeting with Damian. And now, Sierra found herself at a birthday party for Damian’s niece, held at his family’s home. Not only did she meet Damian’s older sister, but she also met his entire extended family. Ridiculously, Damian introduced her to everyone, and she had to go around and meet them all."I didn’t know Damian had a girlfriend. You’re so beautiful, I almost couldn’t take my eyes off of you," said an 80-year-old woman with white hair and wrinkles on her face, holding Sierra’s hand tightly while gazing at her in admiration.Sierra knew the woman was Damian’s grandmother, but she didn’t expect her to mistake her for Damian’s girlfriend."Grandma, I already told you she’s my friend. Don’t make her uncomfortable," Damian said, wrapping his arm around his grandmother’s wai
Sierra swore that she really didn’t know what to say to Callie to fix everything now. But she knew she still had to do something—say something to end the misunderstanding. If Callie thought this way about her, she knew her friend must be tortured by everything."I know that whatever I say to you will just sound like an excuse. But I want you to listen because what happened isn't what you think, Callie.""Are you saying that I heard wrong?""No," Sierra shook her head. "That’s exactly what I talked about with Axton, and I admit it. But I want you to know that something happened at the office, and everyone started calling me a whore because they think I have a relationship with Axton after I came to the office with him several times."Callie didn’t react, but Sierra still saw the disappointment so clearly in her eyes. Now she wondered in her heart—how could Callie hide all of this since yesterday? How could she still try to act kind when she is sick of her?Now she understood why Callie
Sierra really didn’t know what to do when she found Axton standing in front of her house. Honestly, there were so many questions running through her head, but she knew that Damian’s question deserved an answer first. Why is he here?"Is there an issue at the office that made you come find me here, Axton?" Sierra didn’t have an answer for Damian, so she chose to ask Axton when the three of them were standing in front of her gate.Axton glanced at her, then looked at Damian for a moment before furrowing his brow. “Why are you here, Damian?”Alright, now everyone was confused about why they were there.“I’m giving Sierra a ride home. Why are you here?” Damian replied.“She’s my secretary,” Axton answered.“Does her job require you to come to her house?”Sierra blinked, not knowing why, but she felt the atmosphere around them turning uncomfortable.“I’m on leave today because I’m with Callie, didn’t I tell you that? My phone died earlier due to the battery running out, so I didn’t know if
