Silent Rejection
Silent Rejection
Author: Athena

Prologue

Hannah’s eyes dilated with those sparkles. She felt a good shiver. Her heart skipped a beat. Her eyes met Ian Marquiss. She had been into him since 6th Grade and throughout high school. She spied on him and loved him. Now, it was her chance. She’s his real mate!

“Ian,” She called.

She’s been in love with him ever since they were in 6th Grade. He was on and off with his girlfriend Valerie but they finally had a chance at 7th Grade. However, everything went downhill when it was just a bet. It was the most painful betrayal she had ever had. Not just by the man she loved, but also by the friends she was with.

A hopeful look in his eyes when Ian looked at her with the same sparkle. But then, his eyes turned into a glare. He looked at her from head to toe. She knew instantly… Those eyes reveal his true emotions.

Right. He was already taken. He had this perfect mate and she’s just nothing.

Ian pulled his arm as she was taken aback further. Reality hits her. How can she feel this when she’s a werewolf without a wolf? Right, she was different. She was like a human born into a werewolf family.

He tilted his head sideways and looked at her again from head to toe. She felt like her whole body and soul had been judged. The disappointment in his eyes and the most painful was disgust.

She was used to all of the looks of disappointment toward her. She hadn’t shifted, yet she recognized her mate. Now, her mate didn’t say anything like she didn’t exist.

“Ian, please say something.” She whispered.

“Hannah,” Ian scoffed. “Are you on this again? I told you. 7th Grade was just a bet. You are not that beautiful now. But you were. Also, we are not fit to be together.” He said it with those harsh sarcastic words as he managed to be calm.

Yes, she remembered. They were betting in exchange for a kiss on the cheeks that he would tease her as he kissed her on the lips. Their friends were filming at that time. She was so in love with him. It was until then that the supposed ex-girlfriend came, crying and screaming at her, calling her slut in front of many students. Then, she attacked her with her claws but Ian managed to catch her while her other friend protected her.

A male friend protected her immediately and so Ian took his real girlfriend away. A smirk on his face as he left while she was crying and didn't have an appetite to eat. She thought that she had the best birthday. It was the 3rd day of February just a day after her birthday.

She had ideas to finally go on a date on Valentine with Ian but it shattered just in a day. She always remembered it. As years passed by after that, she couldn’t be happy just after her birthday, even on her birthday. She was traumatized that another prank might happen on the third day of February.

She scoffed as she nodded.

“Right, you were still an asshole.”

“Babe!” Valerie called and scooped his arm. She then looked at her from head to toe. She was perfect, tall, slim figure, and beautiful skin like a model, wearing the hottest bikini. “You again. You should be grateful that I didn’t have scars on that ugly face of yours.”

“Let’s go,” Ian said and took a good look at her with disgust. Both of them didn’t expect that Valerie would grab a handful of sand and throw it at her face. She managed to close her eyes but some got into her eyes.

She covered her face as she felt them left.

As soon as they left, the tears that were forming in her eyes quickly rolled down to her cheek while she was removing the sand from her face. She blinked many times as tears rolled down. It was blurred when she saw their back and Valerie was laughing.

She managed to get to the faucet nearby to wash her face, but even though she managed to wash her face and neck off, tears continued running down her tears.

She reached her chest and realized that she was rejected in a very painful way. Silent rejection. She’s been waiting for this time to come in her whole life. But not to be treated like trash, but to meet her mate and be loved. However, is this bad karma? Or was she just being hated by the Goddess?

Ian… her first-ever love. She was right to love him and wrong to fall for it. For him, it was just a game. Even these mates-thingy… the shitty soulmates thing was a lie. She didn’t realize that she had raised her hand while trying to get the sand off her eyes trying to reach him out, but her whole body didn’t move.

This was supposed to be a happy night. She had graduated college, and she should be drinking with her classmates to have fun. But this is such a heartbreaking graduation gift. She headed to the beach as her tears continuously flowed, and her heart kept on shattering. Her whole body also seemed to be in pain. She tried to drag her feet and body away from the crowd. The pain in her chest was a pain right through her soul. Her chest was so tight that it was hard for her to breathe.

“Why do~~why do you always have to hurt me like this?” She covered her mouth as she continued crying, tears streaming down her cheeks. She tried to catch her breath as she continued sobbing.

She blames it all on the Gods and the Goddesses above. She blamed it on the people who created her and that she had to live her life just to be in pain.

“Ian…” She muttered. “Ian… rot in hell.” She gritted her teeth. The pain was mixed with anger and despair.
