Lucas sat in the backseat of his car, staring out of the car's window, pinching the space between his brows with his fingers.

“To the Police Department,” he ordered the Driver.

From the front seat, the Driver peeked at him through the rearview mirror. He cleared his throat. “M-Mr. Harrison, I thought we were heading to the Villa.”

“No questions,” Lucas murmured.

The Driver quietened down. Instead of taking the Villa's direction, he took a different route.

Lucas's phone rang.

Seeing his father's name flashing on the screen, his expression darkened.

“What is it?” He answered the phone.

Blake Harrison sounded mad. “Lucas Harrison, won't you carry out my request and come to the Mansion? You know we can't ignore this matter! Let's make a decision as to how we'll share the assets.”

“Why are you so eager? Grandpa is still alive.”

Blake grunted. “So what? The family needs a new patriarch. I will move into his quarters.”

“Don't even dare.” Lucas hung up the phone.

He tossed it across t

Lucas panicked.Lost at what to do at first, he tried to wake her up. Then he thought she might just be having a nightmare until she started calling out for help in a barely audible tone. The skin of her face paled. She grasped his hand, her eyes shut, her expression a mix of pain and fear. “Heidi…” Lucas shook her gently, struggling to control his heartbeat. “Can you hear me?”She called out for help again, murmuring his name in-between. Lucas stood up and grabbed his phone, his anxiety taking over. He dialed Dr. Shawn's number. “Can you come to the Villa right now?”“Mr. Harrison, is anything wrong? Is Heidi alright?”“I don't think so. She's having a nightmare and refuses to wake up. It can affect the baby, right?”“Is she running a fever?” Dr. Shawn asked, his tone anxious.Lucas touched her forehead. Her temperature was getting high. “I think she is.”“Then it's a bad news. I'm in the hospital, Mr. Harrison. How about you bring her? We might be able to attend to her properly.”

Gloom cascaded his features. Holding her hands, he squeezed them gently, the longing in his eyes telling her there was no way she was getting her wish easily. “This is the last time, Heidi. I promise I won't leave again.”Heidi didn't ask for his promise. He might have sensed the reason why she so desperately wanted to leave. “You told me once the investigation is over, you'll let me go.”“I also asked you to stay with me…” He whispered. “Didn't I, Heidi.”Heidi shifted on the bed uncomfortably, breaking her gaze from his eyes. How was she going to stay when sooner or later her family would find out the truth?“Beside…” He went on. “Steve hasn't been fully apprehended. His allies are still roaming freely…”His words were true. But wasn't Steve the mastermind?“Evidence hasn't come out yet that he has a hand in the AG Group's scandals,” Lucas added. “So we have to be patient, Heidi. I'm entitled to protect both you and our baby…” His gaze fell on her baby bump. Lifting his hand, he

The idea turned out to be; watching the wedding live on TV. Ever since they returned from the hospital, Lucas never left her side. As the sense of security returned and the assurance that he wouldn't leave again, Heidi found herself relaxing.Although being at the wedding would be more satisfying than witnessing it live on TV, Heidi had to make do with it. Grandpa Jeffery was smiling from ear to ear, welcoming guests. There were paparazzi and entertainers. All the bigwigs had also been invited. The biggest hall in Phoenix City was covered in extravagant decorations. Under the limelight, Lilian was all beaming and excited, dressed in her long white wedding dress.Although this was a flash and arranged marriage, Lilian seemed to have no qualms with it. “She seems happy…” Heidi couldn't help but comment. It was unlike Lilian who was all haughty and arrogant. At the moment, she was literally jumping from excitement. All the guests would be convinced that the couple had been in love

“Stop being paranoid, Heidi. No one's dying.” As Lucas drove his car out of the Villa, he kept repeating the same word. “Will you calm down? Your anxiety might affect the baby.”How could Heidi not be anxious? This bad feeling in her heart was almost suffocating.Sitting in the backseat of the car, she fiddled with her phone, dialing Isla's number. The electronic voice said the line was switched off.“Lucas, hurry. Can you please drive faster?”“It is dangerous. What if we crash onto something?” Lucas was driving at a speed even a snail would envy. Heidi pulled at her hair, groaning in frustration. “Lucas Harrison!”“This is the fastest speed limit. Do you want me to endanger our lives, Heidi?”Lucas wouldn't understand her frustration probably because Isla wasn't his assistant. “If anything happens to her, I'll hold you accountable, Lucas Harrison.”“Nothing is going to happen, Heidi.”After an eternity, Lucas finally pulled over in front of a hotel that housed many apartments. “Ar

Heidi covered her mouth, almost losing her footing. Before Isla could swallow the handful of pills, Lucas grabbed her hand, making her let go of them. “Are you crazy?” He towered above the girl drowning in her tears on the floor. “Don't you know this is harmful?”Isla looked at him. Her skin was deadly pale and her eyes looked as if she hadn't slept for many nights. She looked more fragile and weak than the last time Heidi had seen her. “You! Lucas Harrison, what are you doing here?” She choked on her tears. “Why don't you just let me die?”Lucas frowned. He glanced toward Heidi. “She's out of her mind.”Of course, Isla might be intoxicated or she might have already swallowed some of the drugs. Breaking out of her shock, Heidi sat in front of her, holding her shoulders. “What's wrong, Isla? Why are you doing this to yourself?”“Ms. Olsen, why are you also here?” Isla cried. “Can you guys please leave me alone so I can die without any trouble?”“This is serious.” Lucas folded her ha

… At The Hospital. Heidi couldn't help the guilt inside her heart. She sat on the chair beside Isla who was deeply asleep on the bed. “I need to tell her…” She looked at Lucas. “It might only worsen the situation,” Lucas responded. “You'd better keep quiet about it.” How? How could Heidi remain quiet, letting the guilt eat at her heart? But Lucas was right. Telling Isla might only worsen matters. Isla might not only hate Lucas but also her. Standing from the chair, Heidi sat on the couch beside Lucas. “How about we tell Killian about it?” Lucas looked deep in thought. “What if he doesn't care? Won't the truth hurt?” “Killian should have been honest with her. He shouldn't use her and just toss her aside.” “You know the reason why Killian is marrying your cousin. Besides, he might not be in love with your assistant.” Heidi's gloomy eyes traveled to the bed. Lucas's words did nothing to ease her guilt. No matter what, she felt accountable. Poor Isla. …Three days later…Yes. It had been three days ever since Lucas left. He hadn't left for this long before. The Villa had become a dungeon to Heidi, a doorless one where there were only dark walls. Because she couldn't find her phone, she'd lost the source of communication with the outside world. She could neither communicate with Lucas nor Amanda. How did she lose her phone?Well, It was the most bizarre experience Heidi had ever had.She just woke up the next morning and her phone went missing. They turned the whole Villa down but found no traces of the phone. Ever since Isla left yesterday, assuring her that she would be fine, Heidi's loneliness increased. She stood outside the building, beside the pillar by the large doors, staring at the gates. “It's getting cold, Madam.” Mira came out with a shawl. “This will help keep you warm. By the way, I prepared a hot chocolate. It'll soon lose its warmth if you don't drink it.”Standing outside was useless. It wouldn't make Lucas su

Heidi sprang to a sitting position instantly, hearing the voice coming from the door. Dread washed over, and instinctively, she pulled her baby into her arms, her eyes darting around for any possible escape route. Heidi's first instinct was to flee, but to where?“Daddy?” Her daughter, on the other hand, jumped in excitement. “Hey, Mommy! It's Daddy! Daddy's here!”The door's handle shifted as someone juggled it from the outside. The sounds of knocking increased. “Heidi, are you inside?”Lost at what to do, Heidi just stared at the door, hugging her baby. Lucas barged into the room as he kicked the door open. He came to a screeching halt right in front of her, almost colliding into the bed. “Heidi…” as he whispered her name, Heidi's eyes locked into his. All eyes turned to Harold, some blinking in shock and the rest widening. Heidi was confused too that of all people, Harold Olsen was the one who believed her.But from the look of guilt on his face and the way he sank onto the floor, literally kneeling in front of her, something was definitely fishy. “Heidi, please forgive me.”Heidi flinched when he held her knees. She stared at him, frowning. “Forgive you for what, Uncle?”“What did you do Dad!?” Zach hollered, his eyes filled with horror. The others looked fearful as well.Hanging his head, Harold shook it slowly. “I know saying this is probably too late. That night, Heidi didn't lose her child. When the police found her and Natalie, I orchestrated everything that happened after.”Several gasps spread across the room.Avoiding everyone's gaze, Harold said in a melancholic tone. “Having Heidi and Lucas Harrison together at that time meant the end of my sovereignty in this family. I did that to strip Heidi of her position- and…” He

All eyes snapped in Heidi's direction. As her sobs echoed in the living room, they all but sprang to their feet. “Ha! I'm also seeing her!” Natalie gasped. “That's impossible, right?”“Unless we're all out of our minds!” Kate cackled. “Because we all might be seeing Heidi.”Lifting her head, Heidi glanced at everyone's face. Her gaze stopped at her mother whose expression was deadly pale. “Th- This- This isn't Heidi. ~During the car ride, Heidi's mind was muddled with different kinds of thoughts that brought worry to her heart. Her only solace was the little girl sitting beside her, holding her hand. “You're so quiet, Mommy…” she asked, “Is everything alright?”Heidi smiled, parting her hair to the side. “I'm okay, Baby.”“Where are we headed?” She murmured, glancing out of the car's window. “You brought me back, Mommy. Are you gonna drop me off at Nanny's place and disappear again.”Smoothing the tiny frown on the girl's forehead, Heidi's heart ached as she kept repeating that word. Disappearing hadn't be easy, and appearing again would definitely incure many repercussions. Heidi picked her up and sat her on her lap, hugging her. “I'd rather die than to disappear again.”Here she was, loathing death, something she'd actually been craving for the past three years. Her heart was an ocean of emotions and her tears never dried up, so much that her eyes were hurting. “Please, Mommy, stop crying

“For the first time, I'm agreeing with Jason's words.” Freya nodded. “Let's return her to the poor man, Heidi. We'll stay in this paradise forever.”“Don't mind them, I won't let you go.” Heidi patted her hair. She stared at Jason and Freya, communicating with her eyes. The two gave her crestfallen looks and sighed at the same time. That Night;Heidi rested on her bed, holding the baby close, and sniffing the familiar scent on her. Citrus mixed with lavender. The scent of the Harrisons Villa. A scent that only belonged to the man she loved. Whenever she thought of him in the past, she'd feel hate and remorse, but now… the thought of him brought fear to her heart, and a regret she couldn't deny. Beside her, the little girl shifted. She opened her sleepy eyes, her wide milky eyes blinking. “Why aren't you sleeping, Mommy?”“I just love staring at you.” H

From caressing the girl's hair, Heidi found herself drawing her close, wrapping her in a gentle embrace. “What's your name?” Uncertainty filling her heart, she asked in a hoarse voice. The little girl neither struggled nor made a sound of discomfort, she in fact snuggled deeper into Heidi's embrace. She murmured, “Nanny calls me Didi, but Daddy calls me Heidi.”Heidi shut her eyes, swallowing down a sudden lump in her throat. A soft laughter escaped her lips. “That's a beautiful name you have, Baby.”However, the little girl pulled away, furrowing her brows. “But my first Mommy dislikes it. She once argued with Daddy about it.”“Oh, is that so?” Sniffing back the tears threatening to burst out, Heidi forced a smile. “Why doesn't she like your name?”“Because she's a meanie. “A kid means no harm. Relax, Heidi.” Jason patted her shoulder. “That pilot must be her father.”Heidi sat on the couch. “Now let me get to work! Too bad none of us can be in charge.”Under the pretense of working for the AG Group and managing the resorts here, Jason had moved to the mystic Island to be with her. One coincidence led to the guy clinging onto her.Driven by curiosity, he'd wandered into this cabin on a particular day, which was rumored to be haunted, and that was how he found her and Freya.
