I sat up in bed, my hand outstretched to take one that wasn’t in front of me. Looking around, I tried to orient myself back into my room and not the dungeon I’d been sitting in. The bell rang again and I threw the blankets off before heading into the kitchen.
Grabbing the master tablet, I pulled up the front door camera. Luna Katerina was standing under the awning, completely soaked as it was pouring outside. I flipped up on the microphone.
“Give me just a moment to come down.”
She looked around the door but just nodded as she couldn’t find the location of the mic or camera. I set the tablet down on the counter and grabbed my slippers. Racing down the stairs, my slippers nearly caused me to slip twice, but I pulled open three front door and moved so she could come in.
“I…um…I’m s-sorry. I w-w-was asleep.”
She smiled at me. “Don’t worry about it. I came unannounced at the crack of dawn. It’s my fault. I should be saying sorry to you.”
I
I smiled and nodded, plopping down on the seat. “C-can you tell me a-about yourself?”Luna Katerina went back to the fridge and pulled out fruit, bacon, milk, and a couple other ingredients I didn’t see.“What’s there to tell really? After I was swept away from Silver Mountain, I stayed at Red River in a house to myself for two years.”“Not with Alpha Alan?”She shot me a wry smile. “Not at first. He’d only managed to function without a Luna and he had his son. We dated and slowly he introduced me to his son until I was just a staple in the house.”I nodded. “That’s s-sweet.”Chuckling, she pulled out a pan and turned on the stove. It was weird watching someone else in the kitchen. Not that I’d gotten used to myself being in this kitchen. It had been about a week. Everything still felt new and weird. Somehow, Luna Katerina made it feel like a real home.
“Our Father was cruel. To all of us. Less so to Caleb because he was next in line. Catherine also received a lesser amount due to her being next in line and her needing to be sold to an Alpha for a treaty. Emmett and I were back ups. We weren’t actually needed. Francesca saw our presence as an absolute affront to her position as Luna. Which she coveted above all else.” I moved a piece of pear around on the plate with my fork. “Em and I shared a cell that was made up into our room until we were five. We got kicked out of it when the pack was attacked and they brought back a ton of warriors to interrogate. We moved into Caleb’s room for about a year before the maids said it was too much work for them to be dealing with us as well. So, we were given the attic at around seven. It was terrible at first but slowly we made it our own. Fixed the bathroom and the floors. The roof also leaked and Caleb helped us fix that. We got mattresses for each other as a Middle School graduation gift. All
The phone call disconnected and I looked at Katerina with a raised eyebrow. She slammed her phone down on the counter and took a long sip of coffee.“They can all settle down and wait. I swear.”I put my hands up. “Look, I’m not saying a little rebellion isn’t good for the soul. I’m all for it with my history, but I’m also…seventeen and I don’t have a mate…or pups…so…”“They just worry too much. They said I couldn’t have you on territory. It’s understandable and I know you wouldn’t necessarily feel comfortable doing that. So, I had asked to go Rockfest. Ethan said if I had four warriors with me I could.” Her nose wrinkled. “Like I can’t handle myself at a festival. I swear. His dad and I did a lot of fun things like concerts and stuff.”I smirked and grabbed another piece of bacon. “I’ve never been. We put on a mini
After a few moment of silence, of her holding me like a mother and child, I took a deep breath and lifted my head.“So, we can put your clothes in now. Then did you want to go out? Do something? Head into the city? I went to the mall the other day. Three stories! Of shops! However in the world did someone think of that!”Katerina laughed and shook her head. “Sometimes…” She continued to laugh. “I wouldn’t mind a trip to the mall. I haven’t been in ages. Especially the crazy large one here. It’s a bit far and we have one closer to the pack.”I nodded. “Okay. Clothes in, and then I think I have a skirt you might fit in. We can safety pin it if it doesn’t.”-Walking around the mall with Katerina was a very different experience. Besides her tastes being wildly different from my own, she was more than happy to give her opinion on certain looks. It was fun; like when Steph an
The music was loud as the wind whipped around us but Katerina didn’t seem to mind. In fact, a few of the songs she sang along with me. As much as it pained me to think about, I was pretty sure I got my musical side from my father. Poor Katerina could hold a tune. It tickled Raine to no end. Mostly because this she-wolf was the picture of grace and beauty with a dash of rebellious nature. She was almost too perfect. This made her a little more down to earth. I slowed the Thing down after a couple hours, knowing we were coming up to the territory border soon. “This was fun.” I looked at her. “If they allow you out again, I wouldn’t mind hanging out again.” Her smile was so bright it was almost blinding. “I would love that too, Sky” There was no wiping the grin off her face now. I slowed up to a stop at the same place I stopped last time I was here. A figure came out from behind the trees. It was easy to know who it was just by the ridiculous frown and slumped shoulders. “You said yo
*** Ethan’s POV ***I sat at my desk, my phone up but dark. Dad said he would take the guys and bring the rogue Commander in along with Mom. This all had been blown way out of proportion. My hands itched to do something, anything. Dad got a text hours later that they were on their way but according to the Commander, it would take a few hours to get here. She could be lying or she could be anywhere within the state.Pulling out my sketchbook, I flipped opened to a new page and started to draw. At first it was nothing, shapes and items that I’d been staring at for the past hour in my office waiting to hear something back from my Dad. Then it morphed into her.The conversation, my very first conversation with my mate, did not go very well. At least, I didn’t think it did. She was seventeen. Seventeen and with enough strength and power to pull me into her dreams without her realizing it. That was absolutely absurd. Originally I though
I blinked at my mom, before my eyes slid to my dad. His mouth was taut until he finally closed his eyes and sighed.“She’s…what?”“She’s my daughter, Ethan.”I turned to look at Kev only to find his eyes were as wide as saucers. He had grown up with her as my mom for as long as I had. His eyes slide to mine and he nodded, knowing what I was asking. She was telling the truth. Turning back to my mom, she had a continuous stream of tears falling down her cheeks.“Mom…you…you had a kid…”“Four actually. I have four kids back in Silver Mountain before I managed to escape.”I grabbed the chair nearest to me and fell into it. Placing my head in my hands, I tried wrapping my head around this information.“So one of your kids came to talk to you? After all these years?”I was surprised that my dad answered. “She didn’t actuall
The door shut behind them and I leaned back in the seat, my head falling back to face the ceiling. My eyes side closed and o just felt myself slip into the silence that was now the packhouse.‘I’m surprised you didn’t say anything.’‘You don’t want me to. So I won’t.’I felt Niru sitting just on the fringes of my mind. It was almost like he was trying to be there for me without crowding me. Which was unusually kind of him considering his normal behavior.‘I just don’t need sass or snark right now.’He hummed. ‘How about a secondary observation?’I opened my eyes, looking up at the white ceiling. ‘Shoot.’‘Skylar is a Commander.’Snorting, I pushed up off the chair and headed into the kitchen. I opened the fridge and grabbed a
