Rowena felt relieved to hear Maria’s outcry. She wasn’t the only one who disagreed with this turn of events. Thank God.

Hailey couldn’t understand why her grandmother went to such lengths for her sake. She didn’t remember doing anything to earn that favor. She thought about it a lot, but her best guess was that the old matriarch sought peace in the house above all else. That had to be the reason for all of this.

This notion slightly improved her opinion of the old woman.

The old matriarch looked at Maria. This daughter-in-law of hers, always making a fuss over slight concerns.
