Arabella's POV

“ Caleb looked like he was ready to rip your head off. What aren’t you telling me?”

Ash’s jaw tightened, and he ran a hand through his hair, his expression conflicted. For a moment, he looked like he was about to say something, but then he shook his head.

I thought he might actually open up, but guess I was wrong. I was done. Completely and utterly done. My chest heaved as I glared at him, my hands trembling at my sides. How could he do this? How could he kiss me like that, say those things, and then shut me out like I was nothing?

“You are unbelievable,” I spat, my voice shaking with anger.Without thinking, I shoved at Ash’s chest.

“Get away from me, Ash!” But before I could take a step back, his hand shot out, fingers wrapping around my wrist. In the next breath, he had me pinned against the wall, his body pressing close, caging me in.

My heart pounded in my chest as our eyes locked. My breath hitched when he leaned in, his lips so close that I could almost taste him once more.

For a moment, I thought he would kiss me. I wanted to hate him for it, but my body betrayed me, aching for his touch, longing for his taste once more.

“Let me go,Ash…I will…I will…,” I whispered, though my voice lacked conviction. My body betrayed me, leaning into his touch despite the storm raging in my mind. But the words died on my lips as his gaze dropped to my mouth. My heart raced like a maniac.

Just as our lips were about to meet, his entire body went rigid, and then he froze.

His entire body went into a straightened posture, his eyes widening slightly before narrowing in concern. I could see the shift in his expression, the way his jaw tightened and his grip on my wrist loosened. He was getting a mindlink. I could tell by the distant look in his eyes, the way his focus shifted inward.

“Ash?” I asked, my voice barely audible because I did not know what I might be disturbing. “What’s wrong?”

He did not answer right away. Instead, he pulled away from me, his hand dropping from my face as he took a step back. His expression was unreadable, but I could see the worry etched into his movements, his body language.

“We need to go,” he said abruptly.A flicker of something flashed in his eyes, and then he pulled open the door abruptly, his expression shifting from desire to pure concern in seconds.

“What? Why?” I asked, my confusion growing. “Ash, what’s going on?”

He did not answer again. Instead, he grabbed my hand again, and before I could protest, he yanked me forward, breaking into a full sprint down the corridor.

I stumbled after him, my mind racing as we burst out into the hallway. He was moving fast, practically dragging me behind him as we dashed down the main hall.

“Ash!” I hissed, trying to keep up with his long strides. “What the hell is happening?Tell me please! ”

“My father,” he finally blurted, his voice barley suppressing his emotions. “His condition is deteriorating. The old healer just mindlinked me. He is calling for me.We must hurry, Bella. ”

My stomach dropped at his words. I knew how much his father meant to him, despite their complicated relationship. The Alpha’s health had been declining for years, but every time it took a turn for the worse, it hit Asher hard.I had seen it first hand how it broke him like a clay toy in a toddler's hand.

I did not have the energy to fight him. Not when he was like this. So I let him pull me along till we burst into the Alpha’s inner chambers.

My focus immediately zeroed in on the scene at the center of it all. The old healer was bent over the Alpha’s bed, his hands glowing faintly as he worked his magic. But something about the way he was moving ,caught my attention.

Ash released my hand and rushed to his father’s side. ”What’s happening? Why isn’t he responding?”

The healer shook his head with a grim expression. “I have tried everything, Alpha Asher. His body is rejecting the healing magic. I don’t know what else to do.”

I stood frozen for a moment, my medical training kicking in as I observed the situation.

The Alpha’s breathing was shallow, his skin pale and clammy. His pulse was visible at his neck and it was erratic. My eyes darted to the healer’s hands, and that’s when I noticed it…the way he was channeling his energy.

He was focusing too much on the Alpha’s chest, trying to force his magic into the heart, but the energy was dispersing unevenly, causing more strain than relief.

Without thinking, I stepped forward. “You are focusing too much on the heart,” I said, my voice cutting through the tension in the room. “His circulatory system is compromised. You need to stabilize the flow first.”

The healer looked up, his eyes narrowing as they landed on me. “And who are you to tell me how to do my job?”

“I am a doctor,” I said firmly, ignoring the sharp tone in his voice. “And if you don’t adjust your approach, you are definitely going to kill him.”

Ash’s head snapped toward me and his eyes widened, maybe with surprise. “Bella?”

I did not have time to explain.

I moved quickly, grabbing a pair of gloves from the nearby supply table, pouring sanitizer in my hands and snapping them on. “Someone get me more sanitizing solution and a clean cloth,” I barked. It felt natural.Like I was back in my own skin.

One of the omegas scrambled to obey, and within seconds, I was scrubbing my hands clean. The old healer stepped back, his expression was a mix of annoyance and curiosity, but I did not have time to care.

I pushed past him and leaned over the Alpha, my hands hovering just above his chest. I closed my eyes, focusing on the energy I could feel radiating from his body. It was weak, flickering like a dying flame, but it was still there.

“Bella,” Ash said, his voice tight with worry. “I hope you know what you are doing?”

“Trust me,” I said, not opening my eyes. I didn’t have time to explain yet. My senses scanned his body, and that’s when I noticed it.

“He has internal bleeding,” I said, my voice cutting through the tension in the room as I opened my eyes. “The magic is not working because it is not addressing the root cause. He needs surgery. Now.”
