He stood up then, brushing off his jeans. “Just be careful, Zoe. You’re important, more than you realize. That pendant you wear, your white wolf - my father wants them because he’s afraid of what they represent. Power that doesn’t come from control but from something purer. Something he’s lost touch with.”

Zoe frowned, looking down at the pendant. “But I don’t even understand what it means.”

“You will,” Dominic said, his tone firm but not unkind. “And when you do, don’t let anyone - especially my father - take that power from you.”

He started to walk away, but before he could leave, Zoe called out, “Why are you telling me all this, Dominic? You don’t owe me anything.”

He turned back, his eyes locking with hers. For a moment, the air between them felt charged, thick with unspoken tension. Then he spoke, his voice low and sincere. “Because I know what it’s like to lose everything you love, and I don’t want that to happen to you.”
