They made it through the obstacle course together, exhausted but triumphant. Kellen nodded in approval as they finished.

“Not bad,” Kellen said, his tone begrudgingly impressed. “But remember, physical strength is only part of the equation. It’s your mind that will carry you through the worst of it. You’ll need to work as a team if you hope to survive.”

Zoe glanced at Dominic and Nikola, both of them flushed with exertion but smiling nonetheless.

“I think we’ve got this,” Dominic said with a grin, slapping Zoe on the back.

Zoe nodded, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. For the first time since she arrived at Nighthaven, she felt like she might actually belong here.

As the sun began to dip beneath the horizon, they made their way back to the main hall, their muscles sore but their spirits lifted.

“I think I’m going to sleep like a rock tonight,” Zoe muttered, wincing as she stretched her arms.

Dominic grinned. “Same here. But we’ll be ready for tomorrow. We’ve got this, Zoe.”

The moonlight filtered through the tall windows of the library, casting elongated shadows on the walls. Zoe leaned back in her chair, rubbing her eyes after hours of pouring over the basics of pack history, strategy, and the intricacies of their laws. She had always prided herself on her determination, but tonight, the weight of her family’s tragedy made it harder to focus.Dominic sat across from her, flipping through a leather-bound volume with his usual casual ease. His sharp, calculating gaze drifted from the pages to Zoe, who had given up entirely and let her head fall to the table.“You’ve got to pace yourself,” Dominic teased, his voice warm and lighthearted. “Burning out on week one isn’t the way to impress the professors.”Zoe groaned, lifting her head just enough to shoot him a tired glare. “I’m not trying to impress them. I’m trying to understand this... all of it.” She waved a hand at the stack of books. “It feels like every answer comes with ten more questions.”Dominic le

The night had settled softly over Nighthaven, its ancient towers glowing faintly in the moonlight. After the tension of the council meeting, Zoe found herself restless, her mind racing with thoughts of her family, her wolf, and the daunting future Ellara had hinted at. Needing an escape, she slipped out of her room, the stone halls cool and quiet under her bare feet. She found herself in one of the castle courtyards, a hidden garden bathed in silver light. The air was crisp, carrying the faint scent of blooming jasmine. Zoe wandered to a bench near a gnarled oak tree, sitting down and letting the peace of the night wash over her.“Couldn’t sleep either?”She jumped at the voice, her wolf stirring briefly before she realized who it was. Dominic stepped into the light, his hands tucked into the pockets of his jacket. His easy smile and the way his dark hair caught the moonlight eased the tension in her shoulders.“Seems to be a theme around here,” Zoe replied, scooting over slightly to m

The sun hung low in the sky, casting a golden hue over the forest as Zoe stood at the edge of the training grounds. Her wolf stirred restlessly within her, eager for action. Dominic stood a few paces away, his arms crossed and a mischievous glint in his eyes.“So,” he began, a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth, “ready to prove you’re faster than me?”Zoe raised an eyebrow, her lips curving into a challenge of their own. “Faster and smarter,” she teased.Dominic chuckled, his wolf flickering behind his dark gaze. “We’ll see about that.”With a playful growl, he shifted seamlessly into his wolf form - a sleek, dark-furred beast with sharp eyes. Zoe followed suit, the transformation fluid as her wolf surged forward. Her white fur shimmered in the fading light, her glowing crescent mark vivid against her forehead.Without warning, Dominic bolted into the forest, his powerful legs propelling him through the underbrush. Zoe hesitated only for a moment before giving chase, her muscles

The air around the forest was heavy, a mix of damp earth and an unsettling chill that made Zoe’s skin prickle. The group moved cautiously, the dense trees swallowing most of the moonlight, leaving them with only faint glimmers to guide their way. This was a test, Ellara had said - a chance to prove they could handle themselves beyond the safety of Nighthaven’s walls. A retrieval mission for a lost artifact wasn’t supposed to be dangerous, but Zoe could feel the tension radiating from everyone.“Stay sharp,” Dominic whispered, his voice barely audible. He walked close to Zoe, his movements fluid and alert, his dark eyes scanning the shadows. They had been traveling for hours when they reached a clearing, the artifact - a simple-looking obsidian orb - lying on an altar at its center. It pulsed faintly with a dark energy that made Zoe’s wolf growl uneasily in her mind.“This feels wrong,” Nikola muttered, his hand resting on the hilt of his blade.“Agreed,” Sara added, her voice tight. “L

The warm glow of the setting sun bathed the training grounds in a golden light as Zoe wiped the sweat from her brow. She leaned against the worn wooden rail of the arena, catching her breath after another grueling session. Her muscles ached, but it was a satisfying kind of pain, a reminder of her growth.Across the field, Dominic was still sparring with Nikola. Their movements were a blur of speed and precision, their wolves flickering beneath the surface as they tested each other’s limits. Zoe smiled as she watched them, admiring Dominic’s effortless grace and sheer power. But something felt... off.Dominic faltered for a moment, his movements slowing. His head dipped slightly as if he were trying to shake off a fog. Nikola landed a blow that sent him stumbling back, and Dominic dropped to one knee, gripping his head.“Dominic!” Zoe called, worry tightening her chest. He waved a hand weakly, rising to his feet. “I’m fine,” he said, his voice steady but lacking its usual energy.Nikola

Zoe couldn’t shake the weight of the goddesses’ warning from her mind. The darkness, the loss, the looming trials - it was all too much to process in one sitting. The pressure was suffocating, the expectations mounting higher with every passing second. She needed space to clear her head, to get away from the walls of Nighthaven and the endless whispers of responsibility. So, in the dead of night, she slipped from her quarters. The corridors of the castle were quiet, and the only sound was the soft thud of her boots against the stone floor. Zoe’s heart beat in rhythm with her growing restlessness, her need to run.In the courtyard, the cool night air greeted her, crisp and fresh. She barely paused before shifting. The familiar surge of power ran through her limbs as her body morphed into that of her white wolf. Her bones shifted, her fur rippling as the wolf within her took control.Nila, her wolf, stretched within her mind, a rumbling growl of approval echoing in Zoe’s consciousness. L

The days that followed the night run were oddly peaceful, though Zoe couldn’t shake the sense of unease that had settled deep within her. It was as though the calm was merely a reprieve, a momentary break before the storm that was inevitably coming. She tried to stay focused on her training, to push the thoughts of the goddesses’ warnings and the darkness that loomed over her to the back of her mind. But each passing day seemed to bring new reminders of the weight she carried, the prophecy, the looming battles - and the bond she was beginning to form with Dominic.Every glance between them seemed to carry more unspoken meaning now. Every shared smile felt like an unacknowledged promise.Zoe shook her head as she adjusted her training gear in front of the mirror, mentally trying to push away her distractions. Zoe lay still for a moment, her body tangled in the warmth of the blankets, the events of the night before replaying in her mind like an echo. Her heart was still racing, her pulse a constant reminder of the kiss - the connection she and Dominic shared. The morning was heavy with quiet determination. The survivors of the battle moved through Nighthaven’s halls with somber purpose, their grief etched into every step. Zoe stood on the balcony overlooking the courtyard, her gaze distant. The weight of their losses pressed on her, but she knew she couldn’t let it consume her. They needed something lasting, something to honor the lives lost in their fight against the darkness.Ellara joined her, her presence a steadying force. “You’ve been standing here for hours,” the witch said softly.Zoe nodded, her voice low. “I keep thinking about them. Sara, Nikola, the others. They deserve more than to just... fade away in memory.”Ellara followed her gaze, her expression pensive. “Then let’s make sure they’re remembered. Something that will stand long after this fight is over.”Zoe turned to her, a spark of hope in her eyes. “A statue. Something that represents all of them, their courage, their sacrifice.”Ellara smiled faintly. “We’ll need mater

The hallway to Zoe’s room stretched endlessly before her. Each step echoed softly against the stone walls, a haunting reminder of how quiet Nighthaven had become. Cassius walked beside her, his presence steady, but the silence between them was heavy. As they neared her door, Zoe’s pace slowed. Her gaze drifted to the door across from hers—Sara’s room. She stopped abruptly, her hand gripping the pendant at her neck. The tears she had been holding back since the battle welled up, unbidden, spilling over as a sob tore from her throat.Cassius turned quickly, concern darkening his features. “Zoe..?”“I should’ve been able to save her,” she choked out, her words broken by sobs. “I... I should’ve done something.”Her knees buckled, but before she could collapse, Cassius was there, catching her in his arms. He sank to the floor with her, holding her tightly as she buried her face in his chest. The dam had broken, and the grief she had suppressed for hours came pouring out in waves.“I should’

The sun light was weak, its pale rays filtering through the tangle of forest branches as Zoe, Cassius, Ellara, and the survivors stumbled away from the battlefield. The air was heavy with the stench of blood and burnt magic, and every step felt like a struggle against the weight of loss. They moved in silence, each person lost in their own thoughts. Zoe leaned heavily on Cassius, her body battered but her spirit still clinging to the thin thread of determination. The moonstone pendant at her neck felt cool now, its once-blazing energy spent, and she could feel its weight like a reminder of the power they had wielded - and the price they had paid.Ellara led the way, her staff glowing faintly as she used the last of her magic to sense for danger. “We’ll stop here,” she said, her voice hoarse, pointing to a small clearing sheltered by ancient trees. “We need to tend to the wounded before we go any farther.”Zoe nodded, her throat tight as she glanced back at their small group. The forest was alive with chaos. The air shimmered with volatile energy, the kind that burned the lungs and made every breath a battle. Caelum stood at the center of it all, his wings stretched wide, their edges crackling with dark power. His glowing eyes seemed to pierce through each of them, mocking and dismissive.“You’ve come all this way, only to fall here.” His voice echoed like a sinister melody, curling around Zoe and her companions, weighing down their resolve.Zoe clenched her fists, the moonstone pendant at her neck pulsing in time with her racing heart. “You’ve underestimated us before, Caelum. You won’t get the chance again.”His laughter was sharp and biting. “You think your courage means anything against me? Against this?” He gestured grandly to the chamber around them. The forest shimmered, leaves glowing with unnatural light, and the ground beneath their feet cracked and trembled. The warriors stationed on the balconies above tightened their bowstrings, their glowing a

The clearing pulsed with tension as if the very forest were alive and braced for the coming storm. The air was thick with the coppery tang of blood and the ozone scent of magic. Zoe stood at the forefront of her group, her wolf instincts sharpening her senses to the hilt. Around her, Cassius, Ellara, and the last remnants of their allies held their ground, bracing themselves for what they knew was an inevitable clash. The Ironclaw warriors, twisted creatures of sinew and shadow, emerged from the darkness like wraiths, their glowing eyes fixed on the group with predatory intent. Their snarls reverberated through the night, primal and unforgiving, sending a chill down Zoe’s spine despite the fire burning within her.She could feel Nila stirring restlessly within, a coiled spring ready to unleash. The journey through the forest felt endless, and every step Zoe took was heavy with the weight of the loss they’d suffered. Her mind kept replaying the faces of those they’d left behind - her friends, her family, the warriors who had fought valiantly alongside them. They had died to protect what they all believed in, and now Zoe carried the burden of that belief, even as the reality of their deaths gnawed at her heart.Cassius kept a steady pace beside her, his presence grounding her, but the silence between them had become a quiet comfort. Neither of them spoke much, but they didn’t need to. The air between them was thick with unspoken understanding - of their shared grief, of the determination to keep moving forward, and the trust that had begun to form between them, even in such dire circumstances.Ellara, still recovering from the battle wounds, limped slightly behind them, her face pale, but her resolve unbroken. She didn’t complain. She never did. Zoe admired her for that. The wi

The three survivors walked in grim silence, the weight of their escape pressing heavily on their shoulders. The forest they now found themselves in was different from the magical one in the bastion chamber. These trees were older, their roots twisted and gnarled, their canopy dense enough to shroud the ground in perpetual twilight. The oppressive silence was broken only by their ragged breathing and the occasional snap of a twig underfoot.Zoe led the group, her crescent mark faintly glowing as if it was guiding her. Ellara followed closely, her steps uneven and her breathing labored. Cassius brought up the rear, his golden eyes scanning their surroundings with an ever-watchful gaze.“We can’t stop for long,” he said quietly. “They’ll come for us.”Ellara nodded weakly, but her movements were sluggish. “I can ward us for a little while,” she said, her voice hoarse. “Give us time to gather our strength.”“Do it,” Zoe said, her tone sharper than she intended. When Ellara flinched, Zoe so

The air in the chamber grew heavier, the oppressive magic pressing down on Zoe’s chest like an iron weight. Her mind raced as Caelum’s taunting words echoed in her ears. The forest-like chamber was alive with malice, the shimmering eyes of the royal fae watching them like predators toying with cornered prey. Above, the balcony of warriors with their drawn bows glinted in the unnatural light, ready to unleash a deadly volley at any moment.Zoe tightened her grip on the dagger at her side, her heart hammering against her ribs. We need to get out of here. Alive. The words burned in her mind, a mantra of desperation.Ellara’s voice was steady, a low murmur meant only for their group. “Whatever we do, we need to move fast. If we don’t act now, none of us will leave this chamber alive.”Zoe glanced at Cassius. His golden eyes met hers, a flicker of determination in their depths. He gave a small, almost imperceptible nod, and she knew he was ready to fight - ready to lay down his life if nece
