My trembling hand skimmed over the brown old pages, the light provided by the small flashlight shakily dancing over the book, my slightly labored breathing being the only sound reaching my ears as I sat hidden behind the huge chair, hurriedly skipping over the words.
"...a fallen angel is a wicked or rebellious angel that has been cast out of Heaven...”
“For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into Hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until judgment...”
...vile creatures...
...turned into demons...”
My lips escaped a small gasp, instantly covering them with my hand, the moment my ears picked up the sounds of footsteps echoing across the corridor, quickly switching off the small flashlight, now hugging the old book tightly to my chest as I sat completely still, afraid of being caught.
“What are you doing?”
A small, terrified shriek tumbled out my lips, only to instantly calm down, the moment I looked up and noticed my brother staring down right at me.
“Rem, you scared me,” I breathed, taking his hand as he helped me get up from the floor, still clutching the book tightly to my chest.
“You know you’re not allowed in here,” A frown marred his sculptured features, his bright blue orbs curiously eyeing the heavy leathered book attached to my hip.
“I know, I’m so sorry, I-” I nervously mumbled, only to be interrupted by his loud, tired sigh,
“Just go.”
I blinked a few times, weirdly staring up at him since this was one of the rare moments he was actually being nice to me, before he repeated again, this time a little firmer,
“Go, before anyone else sees you.”
And without a second thought, I bolted straight towards the door, tiptoeing like a small mouse on the big corridor, taking two stairs at a time afterwards as I hurried straight to my room.
Once inside, I quickly closed the door, resting my back against it as I exhaled a long, audible breath.
Thank you, brother.
Quickly making my way towards the huge, intricately sculptured bed, I slowly kneeled afterwards, my fingers lightly skimming over the golden, cursive letters embedded on the cover.
Angels and Demons
I sighed once again, shoving the heavy book under the bed, deciding to read it tomorrow, in peace and someplace else, where no one can bother or see me.
Only the gods know what mother would do to me if she would’ve ever seen me with this book.
Climbing over the stone balcony I tightly gripped the straps of my backpack, taking a deep breath, seconds before taking a gracious leap, flowing three stories down, my canvas shoes soundlessly landing on the soft grass.
Perks of being half goddess...
I smiled, feeling the warm, autumn sunrays caressing my cheeks, tilting my head up to give a wink, knowing Apollo will definitely notice, if he was not currently busy with some other issues.
With the sounds of tiny birds chirping I started walking, heading straight towards the woods, skillfully guiding myself in between the tall, thick trunks and once I have reached my special place, I slipped the thick straps off my shoulders, throwing the backpack on the ground.
Throwing myself on my knees, I quickly unzipped it and pulled the old, heavy book out, leaning my back against a fallen log afterwards as I flung it open and started reading again.
Not only after a few moments, my ears suddenly picked up the sound of a twig snapping, instantly drawing my attention.
“Meliae?” My eyes scanned all over the area, looking for that sneaky little creature, only to find nothing.
Hmm...
I shrugged, returning to my lecture, also adjusting myself into a more comfortable position.
“...gifted with the lethal touch, assigned to take care of all the human souls-”
“Boo.”
“Aaah!” My lips escaped a frightened shriek, instantly shooting up, only to notice him, dressed in those same dark jeans, matching t-shirt and combat boots, a small smirk sporting all over his inhumanly angelic features as he intently watched me from just a few feet away.
“Hello, Red.”
“Watcha’ reading there?” He curiously raised one eyebrow, his dark gaze landing on the leathery book tightly clutched to my chest.
“That’s none of your business,” I rudely replied as I glowered at him, holding the book even tighter, trying to somehow cover it under my arms as much as I could.
“What are you doing here anyway? And what do you want?” I spat, warily eyeing his every move.
“Woah, chill out, Red,” He defensively raised his hands, tentatively taking a step even closer, causing me to also take a step back.
“Stop calling me like that. I have a name, you know,” I angrily replied, watching that annoying smirk making its appearance once again on his flawless features, seconds before he lazily replied,
“Yes, I know, Daya.”
What a rude creature…
My scrutinizing gaze trailed all over him, ultimately landing on those soulless, pitch black orbs, remembering the few paragraphs I’ve read in the book I was currently still holding, boldly taking a small step towards him as I asked,
“Which one of them are you?”
His dark eyebrows instantly shot up, obviously not fully understanding my question, curiously eyeing me before my next question.
“Are you Death?”
That would explain why he isn’t affected by my “gift”...
To my utter disappointment, his features quickly contorted into a frown, seconds before the answer came,
“First of all, no, I’m not.”
“Second, my brother is not a fallen...And third, why do you want to know?”
“I...T-that’s none of your business!” I quickly blurted out, obviously not wanting to tell him anything about my little secret, my eyes instantly turning blurry after briefly remembering all those horrible things this gift of mine has done so far...
All that blood…All those innocent lives…
“J-just leave me alone...” I whimpered, breaking into a dash straight back to the house, too affected to even think straight at that specific moment.
I laid myself curled into a fetal position on the huge bed, slowly closing my eyes, remembering all those horrible moments...All that blood...Those limbs scattered everywhere...All those people...Loud screams echoed in my ears, my hands roughly gripping the sheets beneath me, keeping my eyes tightly closed, small tears already making their way over my face.I’m sorry...I’m so sorry...I didn’t mean to...I kept mentally repeating, my lips escaping small sobs, burying my face in the soft pillow, feeling that burning pain creeping its way inside my chest once again, those horrifying screams only growing louder...Daya...“Daya.”A familiar, rough male voice called, my eyelids quickly fluttering open and I instantly jerked up, finally noticing my brother sitting on the bed right beside me, his pale features showing genuine concern as he stared down at me.“What happened?” He softly asked, his bright blue orbs roaming all over my face, surely noticing my recent crying activity.“I...”
Sitting on the old wooden bench in our rooftop garden, I continuously stared at my own fingers, those images replaying themselves over and over again in my head. His hands all over my bare skin, our bodies completely naked, that intense sensation flowing inside me and those weird sounds my lips kept escaping as he kept touching me...Our bodies conjoined...This is so weird...I sighed, feeling so...conflicted...Never in my such long life have I ever felt this foreign sensations...I was so used to feel that same, pure disgust...everytime a man tried to touch me -well, maybe because they were mostly forced...but still...This...this felt so...different...So...intriguing...“Child, what are you doing here?” A familiar, feminine voice suddenly echoed through the glass-built large room, my gaze instantly snapping up, only to notice my mother standing just a few feet away, her body covered with nothing but a white silk robe.I quickly took a glance at the sky, ultimately realizing it wa
Holding the small novel in one hand, I lazily dragged my bare feet through the soft grass, feeling the warm breeze fluttering through my loose curls, the thin sunrays dancing in between the thick branches lightly caressing my bare shoulders and face as I strode straight towards my favorite, secluded place.Sitting on the same fallen log, I opened the book once again from where I had left off, quickly losing myself in the beautiful romance story.“...her heartbeat quickened, feeling his delicate fingers touch her bare skin, a burning fire erupting within her as his lips finally met hers, holding their passionate battle for dominance, his hard member-”My lips escaped a small gasp, instantly closing the book in my lap, feeling my cheeks practically burn as I struggled to get rid of that sinful mental image, blankly staring somewhere in between the thick sea of trees.A small, almost inaudible movement suddenly reached my ears, instantly drawing my attention and the moment I looked in th
Days passed by...until they eventually turned into weeks...He never showed up again...Not even once...Of course he wouldn’t. Not after that “interesting” discovery...Maybe it was for the best...since he was nothing but a despicable creature who could only bring pain, like mother always says about fallens. But still...I quietly sighed, shoving the huge leathered book back inside its place, turning around as I was about to leave, only to suddenly stop once I’ve noticed my brother standing just a few steps away, curiously eyeing me.“What are you doing?” He casually asked, keeping a calm, generally bored expression.“Nothing, just...” I absently answered, taking a glance at the huge shelf entirely filled with old books, earning a small nod from him.“I’m going in town to purchase some things I need...Do you want to come with me?” He suddenly asked, that singular question leaving me utterly confused as I definitely knew that I was banned from ever going there again.“Wh...W-what abou
RaphaelCrossing my arms over my chest, I stood completely still, watching the whole scene unfold right in front of my eyes. From the moment her maddeningly tempting scent hit the human male’s senses, it all came crashing down.Like under a curse, his brown eyes turned a few shades darker, visible tears streaming down her cheeks as he harshly gripped her, quickly turning her around and without even blinking, he slammed her hard against the thickly filled bookshelf.Quiet sobs filled the air, my brows furrowing as I noticed his hands now shamelessly roaming over her jean-clad thighs, her body standing completely still as he continued his violent assault, the sounds of his lips sloppily kissing her neck making me weirdly feel a little bothered. However, I simply ignored that feeling and instead, I continued on watching, curious to see how it would end.And then it happened. From the moment his hands practically ripped her jeans button open and forced the zipper down, sliding inside, her
Feeling the cool, outside air engulf both our bodies, my lips escaped an audible and terrified shriek, involuntarily clutching onto his bare arms as I watched the ground getting closer and closer, seconds before I suddenly felt us both darting right back up towards the clear, starry sky.The smooth yet powerful flap of his huge black wings reached my ears, a small sigh of relief escaping my lips as we gracefully glided through the air, the tall trees moving beneath us at a relatively fast pace, making me realize that we were currently flying towards an unknown destination. And still, even though I knew I should be absolutely terrified of where he could be taking me and what he could be planning to do to me, the truth was, I was physically and emotionally feeling so drained that I could barely keep my eyelids open, let alone fight him. So, instead of even trying to do all that, I defeatedly relaxed in his embrace, letting him carry me to wherever he had planned to.And not after only a
Several hours flew by, the time yet seeming so insignificant as I continued to lay in the exact same position, small tears falling at the sides of my head, drowning in an ocean of pure apathy. He never came back, yet I did not care, for his mere presence now seemed so loathe-worthy.Monster...The word played itself over and over again inside my mind, pounding in my skull like a broken record, each time slowly draining the life out of me, making me wish that I could simply cease to exist....She is a walking disaster! A monster, just like him!More tears made their way down my face, feeling my entire body so exhausted and heavy as I numbly climbed off the bed, the white oak floor seeming so cold underneath my feet as I slowly walked through the now darkened room, right towards the balcony.Hopefully this would end my miserable life...I bitterly thought, taking a glance over the metal railing, taking a deep breath as I mentally prepared myself. But before I could make a single move, a
The strong white light caressed my closed eyelids, peaceful warmth engulfing my entire frame, making me feel so safe and serene...I readjusted my head on the somewhat hard pillow, slowly opening my eyes, momentarily blinded by the bright sunrays.Stretching my numb muscles, I finally felt the much larger, warm body half-trapped underneath me, my gaze instantly landing on the muscular and very naked torso my head was currently resting on. My eyes widened, my entire frame instantly freezing, various inappropriate scenarios passing through my mind as I laid completely still, too afraid to make a single move. How did we end up like this?Feeling his warm hand travel over my bare shoulder, my heartbeat instantly quickened, unconsciously holding my breath as I closed my eyes shut, not knowing what else I could possibly do.“I know you’re awake, Daya.”My eyelids snapped open at the sound of his husky yet lazy tone, utter confusion clouding my thoughts as I ultimately realized he had actual
DayaI could hear my own pulse banging so wildly inside my entire body, from the tips of my fingers and all the way to the very center of my chest as I widely stared, unblinking at the raven-haired male sitting so casually on the very table I had almost lost my soul only a few days ago, that vivid memory still clinging so tightly against my mind, vehemently refusing to give me peace whatsoever. That face...Those frightening and hollow eyes...The painful echo of my own desperate wails...The sight of my own blood...Red...Red...“Red,”Rapidly blinking a few times I quickly snapped back to reality, my gaze refocusing back on Raphael.“It’s okay, come here,”I warily eyed his outstretched hand, my gaze trailing back to that beautifully angelic face, looking at the way those perfect lips curled into a kind and genuine smile and the way his dark brown and warm eyes gazed right into my own as he calmly waited.“Come on, it’s okay. You’ll be safe. I promise,” He gently beckoned, feeling my
“So umm, do I have to draw that symbol thingy with my blood like Ricky does every time he summons Luc?” I asked uneasily, mimicking a small grimace as the thought of actually cutting myself and practically forcing Azrael to come back after everything that transpired in these last few hours seemed so...unappealing.After all, he strongly expressed his desire to get away from me as quick as possible only moments ago...I bitterly reminisced, watching Raph roll his eyes in annoyance before quickly responding in “duh” tone,“You guys have a bond, remember? So how about you just use that instead?”“Oh that...” I weakly mumbled, my eyes reluctantly lowering to the fiercely glowing symbol on the inside of my wrist.“Yeah that,” Raph’s retort reached my ears as my gaze still remained trained on the visible proof of the said bond, uncertainty flickering deep within me.Is it still there though? And if it is, is it still strong enough to call him right back to me?I wondered, my gaze trailing a
I slammed my fists a few times against the marble flooring, feeling like my heart was being literally ripped in half as I stared at the now completely empty space, hopelessly broken.Again.“Why?” I shakily asked between hiccups as I rose my sight to the ceiling, stupidly hoping for some sort of “divine” answer. But before I could even take a second breath a small sob reached my ears, momentarily disrupting my mourning.Lightly frowning in confusion, I sat up straighter, then mindlessly wiped my cheeks before straining my hearing to focus better on the sound, soon enough hearing it again, only this time a little clearer. What the...As quick as I could, I rose myself to my feet, glancing at the small dents in the white marble at my feet before walking away, everything else momentarily forgotten as I headed straight towards the source. And not soon enough, I found myself exiting the house through the glass door at the back and walking all the way to that secluded spot between the trees
Blake I could feel my body floating, drowned in a dark blue and starry abyss like the night sky as an oddly comforting warmth enveloped me completely.Strong, even thuds resonated in my ears like a white noise, their tempo so familiar as it was the only sound I could hear, my mind drifting through that same state of numbness for what felt like an eternity, surprisingly enough with no attempt to even try and escape...And that because it felt so good...Too euphoric and relaxing to even bother wondering how or why did I get here, any previous memories completely forgotten, deeply buried somewhere at the very bottom of my mind, preventing from any disturbance or unwanted distraction whatsoever. So I let myself fall even deeper and deeper, pointlessly swaying away like a falling leaf in the breezy wind, comforted by that same, constant sound.Until it suddenly changed its pace, turning considerably slower, for some reason the abrupt change creating a very peculiar and restless feeling d
Taking a small, timid step closer I peered at the visibly pale, seemingly fallen into a deep slumber girl as her half-bare body rested in Death’s gentle embrace, skin on skin, safely covered by a white-fleeced blanket. So small and fragile she seemed, cradled in between his muscled arms like a child in its parent’s protective embrace as her head rested against his shoulder, her slender palm resting against the middle of his bare chest, gingerly supported by his hand around her wrist.A tiny, faint glow slowly pulsed from beneath, no doubt coming from that particular symbol deeply engraved in her skin, oddly enough pulsing at the same pace with Death’s faintly glowing as well midnight orbs as he sat in her bed with his back resting against the bed frame, unmoving.“What happened? Why is she like this?” I found myself quietly asking, careful as to not disturb their very peculiar yet peaceful moment as we had already intruded their privacy the moment we stepped inside her room, unannounc
DayaPain...The only ever-persisting, all-too-familiar and nagging feeling once again made its presence known inside of me, this time taking the form of a dull headache, rather rudely waking me up from that dreamless and peaceful slumber.Gradually regaining awareness of my own body, my fingers lightly twitched before my eyes slowly opened, greeted by the simple whiteness of a ceiling.Slowly turning my head to the side I then hazily took in my surroundings, and with a slightly blurred sight I could notice the burgundy-colored wallpaper and dark furniture, completely failing to recognize anything at all.And since my mind continuously refused to give me a single hint of what transpired before finding myself in this unfamiliar room, I wobbly rose myself into a sitting position, not failing to also notice the stinging sensation prickling my skin, right in the middle of my chest. With a frown followed by a slight hiss, my fingers gently traced over the area, lowering my sight to take a
I only blinked a few times, staring at his brooding figure, moments before he swiftly circled around me, immediately feeling the burning heat of his body barely touching my back as my attention was now trained on the fallen before me, letting me know that he had moved right behind me.And as I mindlessly watched Raph carelessly discard his jacket and slowly kneel right in front of me, I could feel Azrael’s hands gently grip my wrists, another shiver crawling up my spine as I could feel his breath tickling the shell of my ear, that tingling vibration lightly touching my back as he almost inaudibly said,“Just so you know, I was never going to take her life. I am not a monster, you know...”“I n-never said that,” I quickly stammered, feeling my heart already pounding inside my chest.“Then why do you keep staring at me like I’m your worst nightmare?”My breath faltered, completely lost for words, small tears already making their way down my cheeks as he quietly proceeded to carefully dr
Holy fuck...Widely staring into each other’s eyes the time seemed to momentarily freeze, too lost for words or maybe too stunned by his so unexpected reaction to even try and wrack my brain for a coherent sentence.Holy shit...He’s losing it.Still trying to recover from that temporarily frozen state my gaze finally averted from his, darting to his tightly clenched fist instead, watching how the few remaining drops of alcohol dripped to the shard-littered floor, as expected with no trace of that crimson liquid whatsoever.Raising my sight to peer into those bottomless voids once again, I only noticed how with each desperate scream echoing in the background, that violent struggle glinting in his black irises slowly morphed, little by little but surely enough losing the battle with himself, until it turned into nothing but pure pain and despair. And before I even had the time to realize what was happening, like a furious storm he suddenly made his way straight towards the double doors,
BlakeA cold shiver trailed down my spine as I still laid wide awake, numbly snuggling myself even closer against Ricky’s warm body.Even though I’ve chosen to stay with him for the night like I always did back when I were just a scared kid that needed comfort and protection, I’ve been lying around wide awake almost the entire night after all that crazy shit. Not even my brother’s calming presence could lull me to sleep. All those crazy moments, all those hurtful words kept replaying on and on in my mind, keeping me restless. My stupid mistake with Rem...Rem and Azrael’s fight...That certain unexpected disclosure of Luc and Raph’s true feelings...Daya’s sudden decision of freaking sacrificing herself after all that fucked-up shit...And the last, most painful event...Azrael’s sudden cold behavior towards me...Feeling my brother’s arm wrap even tighter around me I tightly clutched my hands against his hoodie, closing my eyelids shut as I felt tears once again threatening to slip at
