The hall was decorated and ready for the occasion. Adults, male and female trouped into the expanse with their handbags and purses, all dressed and ready for the exhibition.
After so many months of planning the high-profile occasion for CEOs and entrepreneurs, it finally came to pass in the hearts of New York. Amongst all who walked into the hall stood Emily Hartley, a woman in her twenties and staff at NovesTech corporates. Her black gown fitted well in her petite body, and so was her blonde hair fixed into curls to match the golden shoe on her feet."I should not be here," she acknowledged. "This is the last place to be in." She declared again, walking into the hall. It felt like all eyes were on her, and she didn't appreciate the fact that she took an appeal on the occasion."I mean, I could have watched it live from home," she muttered, identifying a woman from her office. "You don't say!""Miss Hartley," the woman who she recognized, identified her as well and walked in her direction. "I thought you were not supposed to be here in the first place.""Shouldn't I be?" Emily asked, growing a smile on her lips. "I thought I should be, Mrs. Blackwell.""It's nice to see you at the occasion, anyway," Mrs. Blackwell said, taking her hand briefly. "But we know you don't have to be here.""It is not obligatory, Victoria," Emily replied. "I know my position in the company does not conform to this occasion. But we are learners, and I am here to discover. So are you.""I see," Victoria said. "How is it coming with you?""Very well," the younger lady answered, taking a glass of wine from the man with the tray. "This occasion is one we waited for, almost all our lives.""Hmm hmm," Victoria nodded in agreement. "I have waited for it all these months. I hear that one of the multi-billionaires in New York would grace the occasion.""I heard too," Emily said, sipping from the glass. "I came with my Bic and note. Everything that is said will be jotted down, and recorded on my phone!" She waved her handbag in Victoria's face."This is alcohol," Victoria cried. "How was I supposed to know they serve alcohol on a business occasion?""Hello?" A male's voice cut short the moment. The women veered around to see who it was and unfurled their mouths in astonishment."Hello," Emily greeted first, straightening her dress. "I'm sorry, are you lost?""Hello again," the man greeted. "Do I have to get misplaced before halting to speak with you?""Of all people in this hall," Victoria cut in. "We are the last people you want to hold a dialogue with, Mr. Stone.""This is no dream, is it?" Emily asked, facing Victoria for a second. "Alexander Stone, or are you twin to him?""Last I checked, I don't have a twin," he laughed at the woman's remark. "May I know your name?"She nodded, not speaking yet. He was the multi-billionaire Victoria referred to a few moments ago, and from her response, she sounded like she didn't care about him gracing the occasion or not.Good God! She cares. "My name is Emily," she introduced, taking his outstretched hand. "Emily Hartley.""I am—""Alexander Stone," she cut him short. "I know who you are. You are a multi-billionaire and CEO of Stone Enterprise.""Well, it's not so big," he cracked up, his short auburn curly hair shifting from its initial position. "I thought I could speak to someone before the occasion started.""Ohh, yes," she assured him, turning to see Victoria. But the woman was gone. "She is my colleague.""She left a while ago," he told her. "While you were introducing yourself.""So what do I do for you while the program is yet to begin?""A little secret about you won't be bad, will it?" The man asked, chuckling. "Don't mind me, have you grabbed a seat?""No, not yet.""We should grab one for you already. Don't you think so, Emily Hartley?"The amazement of meeting with the last person she imagined, dominated her. Jesus Christ! She thought he stopped to speak with Victoria, as Victoria claimed she knew a lot of people in the hall than she did.He looked attractive in a suit, and his curly hair did a perfect job on his small face. His perfume stung her in the nose, and she suffocated in its sweetness. But what will this man want with her? She was not even a CEO or entrepreneur."So, are you a CEO?"Emily scoffed, exactly what she thought he would ask her."I wish," she smiled at him, taking his hand while they walked in a row of arranged chairs. "I am an ordinary staff member, Mr. Stone. You have every right to leave me and go find a fellow CEO.""Come on!" He let out a laugh. "Who says I need a CEO friend? Or do you not know these are competitors in the business field?""I don't know," she scoffed. "My status in my place of work is the lowest. I came here to gain some knowledge and go back to my house. That's all I need for tonight.""Is it?"She took a seat, straightening her dress on the chair. Her handbag dropped to the floor on her command after picking up her Bic and notebook. "Yes, it is," she replied after a long thought. "So, please mind the speech you give to us tonight, I've got a lot to take home with me."Alexander chuckled. "I don't regret ending whatever conversation you and that woman were having.""Nah," it was her turn to chuckle. "You saved my ass, you don't know.""Well," he said this time, rising to his feet. "I guess I'd see you around after the occasion. We should talk about what you learnt, and I'd love to see how pretty your handwriting is.""I don't know, Mr. Stone," she fumbled with words. "I may head home immediately. I didn't come to make friends at the occasion."He loved her sharp mouth. "Not even with a CEO?""Well…""I'd see you around." He said this time, finding his way out of the row.The gathering gave a clap offering at the last speech, with their voices stuffing the air. The host ascended the stage, smiling. The multitude started with another round of a clap offering, then gave attention to the man's voice as he brought the occasion to an end.Unable to hold it back any longer, Emily rose to her feet, picked up her handbag and phone then surged to the restroom. She tossed a deep sigh on her arrival at the restroom. "Jesus!" She shouted, what was in that drink she took at the hall? Her bladder would blow up by now if she didn't do something about discharging the urine in her system. Her notebook was still relaxed in her hands, and so was her handbag. Everything she required was jotted down in the notebook, and her phone assisted with recording speeches and teachings she felt would be of great support to her.Emily pushed them all in and lowered the bag by the sink. She arrived at the toilet seat the next moment. It was a relief, freeing her bladder and insides f
Sunlight stroked the curtain and reflected on her face from where she lay on the bed. Emily hauled the duvet over her head, murmuring phrases that could not be deciphered. The room was friendly, not cold like hers was presumed to be. Wait! Where was she? The sun reflected in the whole room this time, pointing at the crown mirror hanging on the wall. She wobbled her head, confused. Emily let out her first yawn of the day and sat up on the hefty bed. She heard snores and veered around to her left to see him… laid next to her. His snores were peaceful and not audible like a man's snore should be. Naturally. "Shit shit shit!" She realized where she was and jumped off the bed. "No!" She wailed, glimpsing at her stripped self when she slid off the duvet. What happened here? Did she…fuck with this man? Confused, she picked her clothing from the floor where they stayed, even with the man's clothing. Now she scurried to the door, propelled it open and walked out after wearing her clo
Olivia quelled at her tracks at the sight of her best friend, at home. She was supposed to be at her place of work, and not in the house, or was she sick?"Emily?" She dubbed, sitting on the couch next to hers. "What happened to you?" She interviewed, plunging her purse to the floor.Olivia works in a cafe shop in New York City and had just got back as it was her shift. But catching a glimpse of the woman laying on the couch like she was unconscious was another thing to find out.Emily opened her eyes and yawned, goggling at her friend. "Olivia?" She called, sitting up on the furniture. "Did I not lock the door?""I have my key, remember?" The other lady asked. "This is not my question," she said again, rising to her feet. "What are you doing here? At home, by this time of the day.""What do you mean?" Emily scoffed. She recuperated from her slumber and understood the atmosphere she was in. "Where am I supposed to be? Do you have a job for me?""Okay, what is going on?" Olivia questio
Neon lights in the city shone even in day time. The man at the rear of the automobile gave orders to his driver on a thing to accomplish after his droppings at the office."Yes, boss," Nicholas said out loud. "I have a date with Amelia this evening, I should be done with all of these, before that time.""Yes, thank you," Alexander greeted. He was on his way to the office as it was a new week on a Monday morning. There was a lot to be done in his Enterprise after the hosted occasion at one of the top-rated five-star hotels in the state. The driver quelled at the portico of a significant building. He waited for some time before a man in uniform stretched out the gate, the man bowed at the sight of the man in the backseat of the automobile. And Alexander, on the other hand, waved at him while they drove in. The building was a big one, apparently one of the heftiest in the whole of New York. Alexander hopped down when the man on the wheel packed at the lot, smiling. "Good morning, boss
It was a task-full day at the office. The files he scheduled on attending to were all treated, all to his satisfaction. Appointments were fixed for the next day, and a part of him did not know how well he would attend, and what his words to the clients would sound like."Everything has been fixed," Jessica had announced earlier that afternoon. "Including her hair.""Body parts movement?" He inquired, wanting to go with her to the space to see the creation. At least, a conversation with Synthara would not have been a bad concept. But then at the same time, he was unproductive from the day's activity and waited patiently for Nicholas to do what had to be done."Yes," Jessica replied. "When I say 'everything', I mean 'everything', boss.""Good," he nodded, dismissing her from his office. He would check it out tomorrow, then put it out for sale and expect the creation to be purchased in at least, less than two weeks. His phone beeped, and when he checked, it was a text from his driver wh
His hand rubbed on the skin of the card, a dirty smile on his countenance. The last thing to think of was the woman, but Alexander could not help but think about her. There was just something special about her, something he could not bring his hands to lay upon. Heaven knew he didn't plan that sex, but then Emily's beauty pushed him too much, and he could almost not rest because she was in his cranium. What was the next thing to do with the entity in his hand? He wondered, his hands still getting on around it. Call her.Text her? Which was better? He thought, reaching for his device that kicked back on the bed. He took the yield of it up and sat up the next moment, unsure of the right words to type.Hello, he typed. Can we see tomorrow? I've got a thing to tell you."No," Alexander corrected. How about we make out again? I enjoyed it the last time. "No," he changed his mind, clicking on the minus sign at the end of the message page. It was not the right way to speak to a woman,
"Emily Hartley, who am I unto?" Her harmless voice spoke into the device, her thoughts centred around who the caller might be.There was a soft cough, and somehow it bothered her that she took a call from an unsaved number. This person, whoever it was, had called for a while, since the night before from what she saw when she got up from her sleep early this morning. She had tried to reach back to him or her, but somehow it wasn't connecting and she let it be. Why should she care? What does he or she want? It was a man. Who else stalked in this manner?"Emily," she heard a man's voice this time. "Emily Hartley." He said this time, coughing again. Her jaws dropped. That voice. It was deep—familiar, sort of. And for a moment, she took the phone off her ears to take a look at the number. "Who am I unto?""How are you doing?" This person she recognized, instead of giving replies to her question, threw his question at her.Who cared this much about her? "I am doing well, how are you t
He sauntered into the main hall, muttering something to himself. Staff who saw him approach them gave a nod, and a smile to complete the silent formalities. “Where is Jessica?” Mark, who strolled to the spot he graced with his feet, was asked. “Good morning, Mark.”“How do you feel, Mr. Stone?” Mark asked, grabbing the briefcase from his hand. “Jessica is in the room where Synthara lives.” The young man was attempting to be humorous, and the young CEO, who figured out the gesture, smiled shortly. “Get her for me as soon as possible,” he mandated, this time headed for the elevator that guided him to his office. Alexander did not turn around to look for Mark who held his briefcase—there was a kind of trust he had for his staff. Two especially. Arriving at his office, he shut the door after he walked in, still muttering words. Moments later, Mark was in the office, panting. “Here, sir.” He simply said, dropping the entity on the boss's desk. “Jessica will join you shortly.”Jessica
