It was a task-full day at the office. The files he scheduled on attending to were all treated, all to his satisfaction. Appointments were fixed for the next day, and a part of him did not know how well he would attend, and what his words to the clients would sound like.
"Everything has been fixed," Jessica had announced earlier that afternoon. "Including her hair.""Body parts movement?" He inquired, wanting to go with her to the space to see the creation. At least, a conversation with Synthara would not have been a bad concept. But then at the same time, he was unproductive from the day's activity and waited patiently for Nicholas to do what had to be done."Yes," Jessica replied. "When I say 'everything', I mean 'everything', boss.""Good," he nodded, dismissing her from his office. He would check it out tomorrow, then put it out for sale and expect the creation to be purchased in at least, less than two weeks. His phone beeped, and when he checked, it was a text from his driver who announced his presence in the Enterprise premises."I'm sorry," Nicholas said on his arrival. "My date took longer than I expected.""Maybe you should stop going for dates on the day you should be on duty, Nicholas," the older man sighed, hopping in the car. "How is your lady?"The driver smiled. His boss never took long to come around. "Amelia is well, she sent her regards.""Send her mine on your next visit with her," Alexander replied. "But that will not be on the day of your duty.""Yes," the younger man said. "I apologize again, sir."The ride started, and the man at the gate did the needful as usual. Nicholas drove out of the Enterprise and into the streets of New York, playing a jam the boss likes and requests almost all the time."No, I don't want music today, Nicholas."He did as told, turned down the volume and stared at the man with help from the mirror in front. "Is everything okay with you?" He decided to ask after a while, not liking the silence that ruled the automobile. "I'm sorry I came late if that is the issue.""Nah," the CEO let out a laugh. "I was once in love and would do more than you, Nicholas."Nicholas heaved a sigh. "What then is the problem?" He asked again. "This is really unlike you, silence while I drive? Nah. It has rarely been so.""I'm fine," Alexander said. "I am just exhausted from the day's activity in the office. Jessica came up with a creation and we'd put it out for sale tomorrow, hopefully.""That is great," the driver said, arriving at the gate of his destination. He honked his horn and said. "I'm certain we will have buyers. Prolly more than one that you will be confused on who to sell to.""Don't start," the older man laughed. "Where did this guy go?" He wondered, watching the gate of his house open eventually. "I thought he's gone to see his unexisting woman like you've done tonight with your existing woman."Nicholas drove into the compound the next moment, his next stop, the lot. Alexander hopped down with his suitcase, and waved at Nicholas, then the man at the gate before proceeding to the main door, leading to the living room of his apartment. He pushed the door open and walked in to perceive the good aroma that came from the diner. Rachel has done it again, he mumbled in his heart. After a bath, Alexander walked back into the quarter dressed in his nightwear. Rachel showed up in her apron with a jug of juice. "I'm sorry, I didn't know when you got back.""About an hour ago," he answered. "Thank you, but I don't need that.In no time he reached his room again and plopped down on the bed like a log of wood with thoughts in his head. Normally, he should think about tons of projects to be done before the month ends. But no, he thought of a woman this time.Emily Hartley was in his head since that night in the hotel room. He thought he only wanted sex and then wanted her to leave the next moment. But what was this he felt? He is not in love with the woman, is he?Maybe it was time he reached out to her. For nothing but to hear her voice and see how she fared since the other night. Did she think of him like he thought of her? He wondered, reaching for the drawer next to his bed. After a second thought, Alexander opened the drawer, dipped his hand in it and brought out a card. His hand rubbed on the skin of the card, a dirty smile on his countenance. The last thing to think of was the woman, but Alexander could not help but think about her. There was just something special about her, something he could not bring his hands to lay upon. Heaven knew he didn't plan that sex, but then Emily's beauty pushed him too much, and he could almost not rest because she was in his cranium. What was the next thing to do with the entity in his hand? He wondered, his hands still getting on around it. Call her.Text her? Which was better? He thought, reaching for his device that kicked back on the bed. He took the yield of it up and sat up the next moment, unsure of the right words to type.Hello, he typed. Can we see tomorrow? I've got a thing to tell you."No," Alexander corrected. How about we make out again? I enjoyed it the last time. "No," he changed his mind, clicking on the minus sign at the end of the message page. It was not the right way to speak to a woman,
"Emily Hartley, who am I unto?" Her harmless voice spoke into the device, her thoughts centred around who the caller might be.There was a soft cough, and somehow it bothered her that she took a call from an unsaved number. This person, whoever it was, had called for a while, since the night before from what she saw when she got up from her sleep early this morning. She had tried to reach back to him or her, but somehow it wasn't connecting and she let it be. Why should she care? What does he or she want? It was a man. Who else stalked in this manner?"Emily," she heard a man's voice this time. "Emily Hartley." He said this time, coughing again. Her jaws dropped. That voice. It was deep—familiar, sort of. And for a moment, she took the phone off her ears to take a look at the number. "Who am I unto?""How are you doing?" This person she recognized, instead of giving replies to her question, threw his question at her.Who cared this much about her? "I am doing well, how are you t
He sauntered into the main hall, muttering something to himself. Staff who saw him approach them gave a nod, and a smile to complete the silent formalities. “Where is Jessica?” Mark, who strolled to the spot he graced with his feet, was asked. “Good morning, Mark.”“How do you feel, Mr. Stone?” Mark asked, grabbing the briefcase from his hand. “Jessica is in the room where Synthara lives.” The young man was attempting to be humorous, and the young CEO, who figured out the gesture, smiled shortly. “Get her for me as soon as possible,” he mandated, this time headed for the elevator that guided him to his office. Alexander did not turn around to look for Mark who held his briefcase—there was a kind of trust he had for his staff. Two especially. Arriving at his office, he shut the door after he walked in, still muttering words. Moments later, Mark was in the office, panting. “Here, sir.” He simply said, dropping the entity on the boss's desk. “Jessica will join you shortly.”Jessica
The story of her one-night-stand experience with a CEO in the city came as a shock to Olivia who refused to take the news. Emily on the other hand, did all she could do to convince her friend, with proof of the call from an unsaved number she received moments before she sauntered into the room that day.“So—” Olivia started, sipping from the glass of juice she held. “When will you join me at the Cafe?” She asked.“Don't do this, Via,” Emily laughed out a bit. “I am not joining you at the Cafe, for any reason.”“What do you expect when you have bluntly refused to take the job offer Alexander is proposing?” She asked. “You cannot annoy me less.” “I had sex with him, Olivia!” It was Emily's turn to cry. A glass of juice was picked from the table where it rested and brought to her lips in a second. “Put yourself in my shoes and tell me if you would want to have something to do with a man you had sex with, unplanned and impromptu.”“I can't bring myself to imagine such a thing, Emily,” O
Back in her office, she paced the footing starting from the moment of her walk into the space. What would she do? She thought aloud, stopping her trek at the window side. For the first time in a while, since she played her game, she felt somewhat guilty. No, not guilty but frightened by what would become of her if she doesn't fix her mess right on time. She thought Jonathan didn't care for Emily, and would not be so concerned about her leaving. Why then did he seem to care so much about her, to the extent of inquiring about her house address? “Victoria, you must do something,” she heard herself say. “You will be dragged into the mud if something is not done.”She took her seat on the chair before her computer system, turned on the device and began to type. There was a lot to be done for the day, she would rather do what she had to do than think of a way out when there were a million and one ways to sort out herself from the mess she was in, already. The task the CEO had put in her
It was a new day and the first day of a new month when Victoria wandered into her office. The air freshener she kept at the window side stuffed her nose and a pleasant smile appeared on her face. What will the day hold for her? She wondered as she took her seat on the chair ever-living in the office. Her handbag was flung to the desk, and the system before her was turned on. There were several emails to be sent to partnering companies on this day and appointments that were left unfixed she would need to attend to.Somehow, she felt fulfilled for the first time in a long while. At least, after her master plan on Emily, the young lady was gone and gone from the company forever. The CEO had once talked to her about a promotion for Emily, and that was the last thing Victoria wanted for the young lady. She was yet to be promoted, why would the other lady be given a more comfortable office, and a better system to use in the company? Hence, she did what she did to get her out of the offic
“I have decided to take up the offer,” Emily told Olivia, taking a seat on the bed in her room. “It will do us both some good, I thought about it.”Olivia stared from where she lay on her bed. “I am happy for you,” she said. “But don't act like you are doing me some favour. It is you who needs some help and money to survive, Emily.”“Right,” Emily gave a nod. “How are you and what are you doing in bed by this time?”“I don't have the morning shift, old lady,” Olivia replied. She sat up on the bed and heaved a sigh, yawning. “My shift is later in the evening, I have all day to myself.”“That's fine,” Emily replied. She rose to her feet and was headed to the door. “Nothing much, I came to give you an update on my decision, so you are not shocked when I resume work without telling you from the onset.”“Thank you for coming,” the younger woman laughed. “What made you change your mind? Is he no longer the man who fucked you at the business exhibition in the hearts of the city?” “You didn'
Buyers from corners of the city had reached out to the company regarding Synthara: a win Alexander doubted would happen so fast. Jessica, who happened to be in charge of the creation until it left the Enterprise, had reached out the night before and he was shocked—and not shocked at the same time. Too many things gave him a smile on his face. Synthara, and the acceptance of his offer, by Emily. Why did he feel this enthusiastic, and act like he didn't care one bit over the phone? What would he have done? This is business the last time he checked and pleasure is kept aside until business has been done. He glanced at the device in his front, going through the list of buyers and offers they have for Synthara. Now was his time to act like a CEO and the owner of the piece, he said to himself—still smiling while he ricocheted through. His phone beeped and when he checked, it was Jessica's call. Why did she call him at this time of the day? He thought, then recalled the supposed meetin
