Maria's POV
If Andrew hadn't consented, I wouldn't have allowed that insult from Susan like a hard pill. “I don't know if your ears have been infected by a deadly virus, but you need to understand this. I'm Naomi Jackson. This is going to be the last time I'll talk about it. Lastly, you have three minutes left.” I warned Susan. I lost count of how many times I've done that already. She probably feigned deaf ears to trigger my anger. I guess it's working already. “Why are you running away from the past like a coward that you are? Don't you wanna talk about it?” Susan got on my nerves again. I struggled to breathe. My hands were yearning to strangle Susan's neck, but I moaned to control them. I ignored Susan's shenanigan while I concentrated on Andrew. He's the reason I am in the mess. "If you don't call her to order, I will be forced to kick her out. And trust me, there's nothing you or anyone can do about that,“ I told Andrew while I went to an isolated corner. I folded my arms while waiting for feedback from Andrew as he went to speak to Susan. I didn't pay attention to the things they said because it never mattered to me. Shortly after, Andrew returned to me and claimed that he had resolved the issue with Susan. In his words, she's never going to piss me off again. “it better be true,” I hissed at Andrew while I returned to Susan. “For your sake, I do hope you're going to make more sense this time because I'm so going to enjoy kicking your butt,” I infused the fear inside of Susan. The plan was to frustrate the living daylight out of her until she gets tired and leaves eventually. I wasn't done with my plot when Susan made the audacious demand. “I want Ethan to be released. I can't stand to watch him spend two nights in detention,” “What an audacity. You could have said that when you walked in. What took you so long?” I made a travesty of Susan while I paced around. I just had a feeling that her display of nuisance had everything to do with Ethan. However, I kept my observations to myself just to ensure I wasn't exaggerating. “It's not too late, is it? Are you going to do that or not?” Susan spoke again. Her utterances were void of remorse. She didn't sound like someone who needed a favor from me. Rather, she spoke like someone that have me at her beck and call “And why do you think I hold the power to his release? The last time I checked, I was not a police officer, and neither was I married to one. If you care about his freedom, you already have the right authority,” I tried to play a fast one on Susan, but she was smart enough to uncover my tricks. “Don't be so ridiculous, Naomi. If it was that easy, I won't hear. The authority won't take action without you. You got him arrested in the first place. If there's anyone that can get him out of that fucking place, it's you,” Susan insisted. The fact that she addressed me as Naomi kind of fascinated me and reduced the resentment I had towards her. It gave me the urge to want to grant her request. “I am ready to grant your request on one condition,” I said. “And what are the conditions?” Susan's voice trailed off. I noticed the fatigue in her tone. She never envisaged meeting me as a different kind of person. She thought I was going to be a walk in the park. She was shocked to find out that I wasn't the same Maria. The timid girl she knew some years ago could easily be bullied, humiliated, and manipulated. “The only way I could order his release is when he signs an undertaking not to come close to me or my sons again. If he can heed to that, then he's a freeman already,” I requested with confidence. “That's ridiculous. You can't be serious, are you? The boys are his kids, too. Why stop him from seeing his sons?” Susan blasted me. As though that weren't enough, she called me a selfish bastard. Upon hearing that, my ears stood firm like an antenna pole while my brows furrowed together. With a slow walk, I edged towards her and landed a slap on her face. “How dare you say that about my kids? Have you gone crazy? One more word about my kids again, and you'll join Ethan in detention,” Without saying a word, she caressed her cheek and nursed the pain. Her eyes suddenly turned reddish. It's just a matter of time before she starts crying profusely. While Susan nursed her pain, Patty showed up out of the blue. “How are the kids doing?” I asked Patty. I knew her presence had to do with my kids. “They're having a sound sleep as we speak ma'am. The chef just served dinner. You also have an unread mail from a client,” Patty disclosed. The arrival of Patty was precisely what I needed to get rid of Susan. “Thank you, Patty. You can leave now. I will join you shortly once I'm done sorting out this mess,” I dismissed Patty while my gaze was focused on Susan. “This isn't over, yet. You are definitely going to regret this,” Susan dared me. Not even the factory reset slap was enough to seal her blunt lips, which is sharper than a double-edged sword. I pretend not to hear her speak. I treated her like an outcast that she is. I leaned forward to Jake, the security. “If you still want to keep your Job, you'd get this piece of shit out of my mansion,” “Consider it done, ma'am. She's as good as done,” Jake bowed. Right under my watchful eyes, he forcefully dragged Susan outside while ignoring her wailings. Jake was pretty impressive. He beats my expectatioexpectationsme want to give him a Pay rise I finally got rid of the virus. Although, I know she's undoubtedly going to return. However, I trust Jake to do the dirty job.MARIA'S POV I raced up the stairs, my heart dancing with every step. Three years, three long years of cold, empty marriage, and now, finally, I had a reason to hope. I was pregnant. I could hardly breathe as I imagined the look on Ethan's face. Maybe, just maybe, this baby would change everything. Maybe it could make him see me and love me so much. Though he did, it was just a little, and ever since we got to the third year of our marriage, he started behaving so distant. I burst through the door, my cheeks flushed with excitement. But as soon as I stepped inside I heard muffled voices. I paused. My smile froze on my lips. I shook my head, pushing the doubt away. No, this was a happy day. But when I opened the door to our bedroom, my world shattered. There he was. Ethan, my husband was on the couch with a woman sitting casually across his lap like she belonged there. Her lips pressed against his, their bodies entwined as if I didn't exist. "Ethan!" I
Maria's POV "Come back here”. I heard a voice say behind me just when I was almost out of the house. A shiver ran down my spine and my legs felt so weak that I couldn't turn around. I already knew who had that voice; it was no other person but Ethan. His voice was ice cold and dripping with so much venom. "What did you just say?" he asked me, and before I could speak, he raised his finger in warning. “Don't even try to lie." I swallowed hard, sweat beads forming on my head, and I glanced up at Susan, who had her arms folded across her chest with a sly smile on her lips. I had wanted to leave peacefully without any trouble but now I guess that peace was far from me. "She threatened me, Ethan," Susan said, and in seconds, she was already beside him, holding his arms and casting a hateful glance my way. I felt so small, so insignificant my life had changed in just a few minutes. "She threatens to kill me, Ethan," Susan said, and without even waiting for confirmation, Ethan's
Maria’s POV Being unconscious was something which I had come to cherish and I didn't wish to wake up to this cruel world. I wanted to die. I opened my eyes wearily and glanced at the white ceiling which was a stark contrast to my room. I tried to get up and mad pain protested through me, breaking down every strength I had left. My whole body felt numb and weak and I couldn't even lift a finger. I must have been unconscious for a long time as I glanced to my left, there was a machine beside my bed beeping. I tried to sit up, but I couldn't; the pain was too much, and tears were brimming in my eyes. The only thing I could remember was that Susan had pushed me and that was it, the darkness closing in on me. I was half aware of my surroundings, and I tried to call for help, but my tongue lay limp and dry in my mouth. I heard a door open faintly, and someone walked in, but I just couldn't make out the figure. I felt someone touch my hands, my vision was blurry and I felt like
Six months Later. My life had changed since I signed those divorce papers. I now live in Massachusetts. And I needed something to do. I couldn't afford to stay idle, not with three babies relying on me. I had no choice but to start over. My hands trembled as I put them to work, scrolling through pages of job listings at two in the morning, the sound of babies breathing softly behind me. Nothing felt right. Everything looks like I could barely pay for diapers, let alone cover the growing mountains of bills. I had to figure something out— fast. It wasn't until two weeks later while struggling to soothe one of the boys with a blanket I had hand-sewn for him, that the idea came to me. “Homemade personalized baby blanket”. Something soft, simple, and full of love. Something new mothers would treasure like I did with my boys. I didn't wait. Immediately I set up an online store that same night, listing my first part of the blanket. It wasn't much but it was a start. I never t

Timmy, the third of the triplets, shrieked tugging at me with my designer bag. "What is it, darling?" I asked, smiling down at him. "Are we going home?" Ted, the first of the triplets, asked me, holding onto his kite. He had asked the question which his brother had wanted to ask. But before I could answer his question, Theo, ever inquisitive with his sharp eyes, looked up at me. He was the smartest of the triplets and was ready to ask questions until he had answers. CHAPTER 10 Maria's POV “You want us to call the cops on someone we aren't aware of? Cut me some slack, Andrew. This ain't Hollywood. Fuck the cops and let's go check who's that,” I told Andrew while turning down his suggestion. The sad face he put up shows that he wasn't pleased that I didn't follow his command but who cares? I'm all about my instincts. I wasn't going to let Andrew play the lead role in my life when I was old enough to make certain decisions for myself. As I stepped outside the vehicle, I checked behind me and noticed that Andrew was following my trail. “Don't worry, just go. I got this,” Andrew assured me. We were like super crime fighter couples. Situations like this only happen in the movies. As we strode quietly to the gate, we met with the security who was fast asleep. Andrew and I shared a telling look. It's obvious that the same thing for Security. Another loud knock was heard on the gate that forced the security off his position. The m
Maria's POVAs we drove home, Andrew and I never said a word to each other. It was starting to look like a breathing competition. We couldn't stare at each other in the eyes after what happened. Andrew understood the assignment and knew I needed to be left alone And the kids? They won't be disturbing me with their unnecessary demands. Fortunately for me, Patty was there to put them to satisfy their cravings. I don't know what I could have done without her presence. We finally got home after a fifteen-minute ride. The relief I felt that can't be explained. I could only think of one thing; heading inside my sturdy to reflect on everything that has happened in the last couple of minutes. "Please don't go yet.I wanna have a word with you," Andrew whispered to me when he realized I was making plans to leave. “Mom, aren't you coming with us?” Timmy asked me after he saw me stay back inside the car when everyone was out.
