"Chloe, you really don't want to be late on your first day at the new school." She heard her mom say as she passed her door to go into her younger brother's room; the boy who for some reason believed he was older than she was.
She groaned and shook her head. This wasn't fun like she thought it would, this was exhausting for her. When her parents told her they would move from New York City to this place; a small town in Alaska she was elated, and she thought that she would finally have some peace, but now it looked like she was starting to regret her decision to be happy. It wasn't really easy taking up early in the morning to prepare for school, especially a school that she was entering in, as a senior. Leighton High doesn't accept any students especially not in the middle of the year and not from a rich family, but because her grades were perfect, and her father and the principal went to the same college and were returning a favor, she had been accepted. She was sure that she would be able to blend anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem. She didn't want to stand out like she was in her old school in a bad way, and that was a nightmare for her. She just hoped that this new school wouldn’t be the same. Sighing, or more like groaning, she stood up from the bed, throwing the cover aside and putting down her feet on the ground. It was cold, so she winced, squeezing her eyes shut. She didn’t like the cold weather for any reason, but she love the feeling of the rain on her, only to get sick after. Her mother already knows that she always falls sick during rainy seasons, so she would always make her soup to help. She loved her mother's soup anyway. She quickly walked to the bathroom where she would be having a quick shower. She didn’t want her mother to come to yell at her again for the second time, because that meant that she would have to start rushing unnecessarily. If Chloe hated anymore more than the cold, even though she was weird enough to like the rain or the soup that came with it, she hated rushing around the house to look for things or get ready, as long as rushing around was involved. She wouldn’t want to start sweating after taking her bath like some goat in labor. She grabbed her toothbrush and paste and she brushed her teeth, and after she was done, she had a quick shower, washing her hair with shampoo. Thankfully, they had arrived in town a week before and she had been able to unpack everything so that all she needed was within reach. After her bath, she wrapped a white towel around her and walked back into her room. Chloe was a coordinated person, so she had arranged her school bag and books, and all she needed was her clothes. Opening up her wardrobe, she looked around it for something to wear, then she pulled out a pair of black jeans, a yellow camisole, and a black leather jacket. This screamed like she was looking for attention but that wasn’t the case. She didn’t want any attention, and she would like as less people as possible to notice her, so she switched the leather jacket for a hoodie instead, a midnight blue color and then she walked with the clothes back in her hand to drop them on the bed. She wasn’t sure if that was good enough, but she doesn’t have the time to change it again, so she walked to her dresser to grab her hair dryer and did the needful. After that, she straightened it, applying a cream to help keep it shiny and then she wore her clothes. No makeup on her face, well, she didn’t really need that if she wanted to stay unseen. Besides, no need to try to be beautiful when she was just a plain girl with a plain face. The only thing that wasn’t plain about her were her eyes, a spring forest green color, and she loved how intense they looked. At her former school though, she usually avoided wearing green because it made her eyes pop and that was just not acceptable. After she was done with wearing her clothes, she combed her brown full hair again, and then she grabbed her school bag. Rushing downstairs, she walked to the dining room and walked to kiss her dad on the cheek. “Good morning, Dad.” She said, smiling. “Hey, Mom.” She greeted her mother, grinning inwardly because she knew her mother's reaction to such a greeting. She would roll her eyes with a grunt and whisper “brat” because she was being “biased” and greeting her father better. “Hey, pumpkin. Good morning. You sure look good.” He said. She ruffled her younger brother’s hair, and the younger one was given a kiss like she did her dad. She had two brothers and was older than they are with four and eight years respectively. Cameron was thirteen while Camden was eight years old. She called them both Cam sometimes to be funny but usually it was just Cameron and Camden. “Thanks, Dad.” She grinned at him and sat down on the chair beside Camden. Looking at him, she said. “Hey, buddy. Have you taken your assignment?” she asked him because he always forgot it back at home in New York. He gave her a small shake of his head and she stood up to go get it. She smiled and shook her head, and then she looked over her shoulder at her mom trying to carry four plates of breakfast towards them. It was bacon and egg and smells divine. Chloe would have helped, but her mother had stopped her from cooking. She said it was better to do the cooking on her own to be a better mom and closer to her family. Her mom was a doctor with little hours at home and most hours in the hospital. She had always cooked uneatable meals until she stopped altogether. Although, she had later had to learn and ever since she could cook better, she had decided to be the sole provider of meals, even though Chloe knew how to perfectly well. She shook her head as she placed a plate in front of her and one beside her for Camden, then she grabbed her fork and started to eat. She needed to be on her way to school soon. It was her first day and she wouldn’t want to be late. It took her five minutes, and she was done. Grabbing her phone off the table, she said. “Bye Dad, bye Mom. Cams, bye. I’ll see you guys later. She said and bolted out the door.Leighton High was not too far, but it wasn’t close either, so she started to walk at a fast pace until she was a few blocks away from the school, and she slowed down. She didn’t want to seem weird or even draw attention to herself so she cut the yard across to the parking lot and passed the side of the school building. The school was big, an obviously rich kid school, and the cars in the parking lots for students just made Chloe want to roll her eyes. They seemed like they would be more expensive than what her mother made in a year as a doctor in a small hospital or her dad’s in a bank. They were the typical normal parents but she was proud of them and what they do. Successfully, she was able to walk into the school without being looked at by anyone. She recognized the school groups, according to what they were doing. The tech groupies, the science nerds, the bad boys with the motorcycle, the bad girls' wannabes, the school prince and princess leagues, and the “woke” people. She shoo
This was another Monday, and he had to go to school. God he hated Mondays and he just wishes that he could drop the hell out. He was already rich on his own and doesn’t even need his father's money, even though he had plenty. His father paraded himself as this good man, doing good deeds out there but never there for his own kid. He had a foundation that he named Joy, after Zach's late mother for people battling with cancer but with little to no money for chemo. Zach had to stay here in Leighton, because his father was never around, and he had to live here with his father's wife, his stepmother was a good woman, but Zach just could never accept her. She had a son with his father, who was now Zach's brother; Sander. His brother had told everyone his name started with a Z and not an S because he wanted his name to look cool like his older brother. Sander was eight years old and his mother died seven years ago, which meant that his bastard father was cheating on her mother with Sander e
The girl raised her head from the table, adjusting her hair and pushing it behind her left hair, then she said. “Huh, excuse me?” and just like that, he froze. Behind him, Liam whispered. “Fuck, who is that?” he asked.Whispering back, he said. “I have no idea, but fuck she’s beautiful.” He said them very low, under his breath so Liam was the only one that heard him. He was still looking at the girl he had never seen before. Must be the new girl. She was so fucking beautiful and the first things he noticed about her were her pink shiny lips and intense green eyes. They were the greenest eyes he had ever seen in his life. She had a perfectly straight nose and her teeth were white and straight as well. He could see that she was confused as she looked at him so he cleared his throat and said. “Get up from my seat, you’re in it.” He said, cutting out the bitch. She was new, so she couldn’t have known that it belonged to him. She started up at him for a while and then with an exasperated
She could feel her heart hammering in her chest as the teacher asked her to come forward to introduce herself. It was really something she didn’t think would happen after the teacher had already ignored her for a while. Behind her, the boy called Zach was staring at her weirdly, and it was causing her to sweat. She wasn’t even sure if his attention on her was the reason for her heart beating that wildly or if the tension from being in front of the class like this to introduce herself that caused it. Normally, she wasn’t usually shy if it was to come to solving something on the board, in fact, at that moment, her head was always raised high because she knew she was good at it, but, not so much with having this kind of attention. She cleared her throat and said. “Huh, my name is Chloe Miller, and huh, I am now.” She said ad everyone laughed. She looked at Zach to see that he wasn’t laughing like the rest, but the expression on his face was worse, somehow. It was an intense look that s
Chloe looked at the question he had just written on the board before calling her and realized it was one of the questions she solved in getting ready for today’s class last night. But, the problem lies in going up there to solve it. The class was now focused on her, again. Normally, if there was no drama to it, and she was just called to come to solve it, most student who wasn’t paying attention to the teacher wouldn’t pay it to her, but now… Looking around, she saw them staring and felt as if the ground would open right up and swallow her. Standing up, she walked slowly to the front of the class. Behind her, a girl whispered to her friend. “Look at her ass in trouble already. She better know what to write or this would go to shit and everyone would remember her for the rest of the school year.” Zach had been the one to get her into this mess and should be the one here right now, but he was sitting down staring up at her instead, with that stupid smirk right there on his face. She
“That was mean and unlike you, Zach,” Liam said to him and he shook his head at him. “What did I do?” He asked, but he knew what he did. He knew what he was talking about. He wasn’t a bully if he was being sincere, but it was her fault he was like this. To be honest, all of these were just to get close to her. It was the only way that he knew. He hated the way she was making him feel so out of control. This foreign feeling was what he didn’t understand and why he was acting this way. He needed to keep her close so that he would be able to get rid of the feeling. It wasn’t that simple, but it was the only way he knew. Liam didn’t know this, and he wasn’t sure that he would read any more meaning into this than just being mean to her. Maybe none of his friends would notice at all, but who was he kidding? They would be interested soon enough to get to the bottom of this. His life was something similar to things placed under the microscope. “You really should stop being an ass to her, y
She looked at him and then she swallowed visibly before walking to sit in front of him. She looked over her shoulder at him and their eyes met. “You really should consider trying to avoid attention.” He said it to her for her own good, but the look on her face told him that she took it the wrong way. He sighed and shook his head. “I’m sorry you started with a bad day.” He added, and Chloe looked around the class with a frown on her face. He could tell that she was have been surprised that he said that and that was why she was looking around. He smirked and said. “I just feel sorry, that’s all.” He bit his tongue as soon as he realized how that sounded, and he wanted to slap some sense into himself. That sounded, even more, worse than telling her not to get attention to herself. He shut up after that and faced the teacher, leaving her to do the same. He felt someone tap her and the girl beside him passed him a sheet of paper. She whispered. “It’s from Zoe” and faced front as if she h
Chloe was finishing up making dinner when her phone beeped and she frowned. She wasn’t expecting a text from anyone and she surely didn’t have any friends that would be texting her. She ignored the text and walked to the pot to open it, and then she checked what she had in it. Closing her eyes for a bit, she inhaled the scent of the food and nodded. It was almost ready. Her mother should be back from work later tonight, which was why she was cooking. Her father was watching a late game with her brother, Cameron while Camden was doing his homework on the kitchen table. This was exactly how Chloe had envisioned her life as a married woman, her husband early from work, with her kids either doing their homework or bonding with their father while she made dinner. Chloe wanted a big family with four kids, two dogs, and a house with a picket white fence. She wanted to bond with her family as well, and have healthy meals with them. She wanted to be a mother that was not only hardworking in
The air felt so heavy around Zach as he approached Chloe's house, his breath forming clouds in the chilly evening. “Oh shit, I’m nervous.” He whispered. It was as if he was there to ask for Chloe’s hand in marriage rather than just having a causal dinner with her family. He couldn't help but feel a flutter of nervous excitement in his chest at the thought of marrying her though, because he would like that very much.Although, Zach had eaten with Chloe before, but tonight was different; it wasn't just another dinner. It was a gathering, an invitation from Chloe's family so that they could meet him official and probably talk about his relationship with Chloe. As he reached the front door, it swung open right before he could knock on the door, revealing Hailey, Chloe's best friend and his own friend as well, and he wondered how she knew he was at the door. Well, she had probably heard the sound of his car. That was the most likely explanation for how she knew to open the door before he
All Zach wanted was to never have to talk with his father again, but he wondered what this was about now. He stood up and followed him, but his mind was back there on the bed with Chloe. "What's this about, father?" he asked, but his father said nothing. Sighing, he shook his head and followed him in silently, not saying anything after that. When they got to his office, Zach silently closed the door before turning back to face his father, watching as he walked to the window to stand over it. Be would have preferred to open the door of the room and just let them talk so that it would be easier fir him to escape, but he also didn't want it to seem like he had anything to run for. His father took his sweet time before he spoke though, clearing his throat even, so that his voice would come out in his desired way. "I'm going on a business trip," his father started. "And what the heck does that have to do with me?" Zach wanted to ask, but instead, he stood there quietly without
They were still on his bed, but they had stopped kissing, and Chloe was now sitting in front of Zach instead of his lap, their head pushed together as they spoke in a hushed tone even though the room was empty. “Wait a minute, Zach. I have a question for you.” Chloe said and she pulled back a little, and Zach's hands around her loosen. He looked at her with his eyes squinted, wanting to know what was going on. “What is the question about though?” e asked. “Can you tell me what happened with your mom? I know she died, and because of that, you hate your father and his wife so badly. If it's not too much, can you tell me what happened there?” she asked. Zach stared at Chloe for a full minute, contemplating on what to say and what not to say. He knew Chloe meant no harm and she was just trying to get to know him even better than she did before. He decided it was best to tell her about it so that she would understand him even more. She would see that he hadn't just woke up one day and
A week later, Zach called Chloe and invited her over to his house and Chloe wondered why he was asking her over. She had been cooking for her siblings when she received his call that afternoon, so she had to finish up before leaving. As she walked to the bus stop to get on the bus, her phone rang again, and she picked it up to see that it was her mother. After the day her father had caught her over at the Elliot's house, he had realized that they needed to spend more time as a family, and he had had that conversation with her one night after she managed to come home from work. It turned out that the only reason she kept taking shifts over and over was because of a promotion that she was eyeing, but she could have just explained that. After that, her mother had spoken to her and told her she just needed two days, because the period for working for the promotion was over then, and ever since, she had been cutting back on work and showing up at home most nights. It wasn't entirely the
“Hey, you!“ that was the first thing Hailey said to her when she opened the door of her house that afternoon, a mischievous smile on her face. Chloe shook her head at her as she followed her into the house and then up the stairs to her room. “You’re definitely so up for hearing what I have for you, aren't you?” “What? Did you finally grow some balls to kiss that boy?” she asked and she turned to look at her over her shoulder, right before she opened up the door of her room. Rolling her eyes, Chloe chuckled. “No, but I have more juicer news. You won't believe what happened at all.” She said. Hailey plop down on her bed and then she turned to face her, all fully ready to hear the gist she had for her. “Out with it, now.” She said, hitting her on the arm playfully. “Ow, Hailey. What do you think you're doing? You’re not going to let me get to it if you continue doing that.” She said, then just to tease her, she asked. “Wait, are we alone at home or something?” she was just trying to
The argument with her father wasn't as she had expected, but it was long, and by the time he was able to convince him that Zach wasn't her boyfriend, she went out of the house to go to Hailey, also surprised that he let her, even after knowing she had lied about sleeping over there before. She had told him she was going to have a sleepover at Hailey's and that he could follow her there if he didn't believe her, or call his informant, Mr. Elliot-Day if he didn't believe her, and surprisingly, he had just rolled his eyes at her and nodded his eyes. She still wonder what Mr. Elliot-Day had told her father, but it was all good, because as long as she wasn't grounded or anything, then it was probably not something she should be worried about. One thing she was grateful for was the fact that her mother wasn't there at the time. It was still two o'clock in the afternoon, and she shouldn't be going to a sleepover this early, but it was Hailey’s house, so she needed to do just that, or that
Chloe used her hands to cover up her face, embarrassed at the things Zach said she did, the ones she couldn't still remember properly. She knew she hadn't taken in the intake of the alcohol properly, so they were a fat chance he wasn't lying or pulling her legs. “You were so bad last night, trying to send me to an early grave. I wonder why you were so bent on seducing me last night, though, but I guess it was the alcohol.” He said. He had started to drive and was somehow stuck in a little bit of traffic, but still, he wasn't looking at her at all. He was so focused on the road ahead of him one would think he had his eyes glued there. He definitely was avoiding her gaze. She turned up the corner of her mouth in a surprised smile, squinting her eyes as she looked at him. Was it possible that she had succeeded in turning him on or something? She wondered for a second, then she leaned over the console that was between them and asked him, whispering into his ear. “Wait, did I succeed in
Can you please take me home, Zach?” she asked him after they had talked about their families, looking at him with a small smile on her face. Zach nodded his head in agreement. “Of course, little bird. Just give me a second to get something better on.” He said as he gave her a small smile. He pushed Chloe off him as gently as possible, and then he walked to his closet, winking at Chloe over his shoulder as he realized she was watching him go. Luckily, she didn't flush when he looked at him until he turned back and walked into the closet. She reddened when he was gone, blowing out a breath. Zach was just really handsome and being in close proximity with him like this was really making butterflies fluttering in her belly. About a few minutes later, he walked out and told her it was time to leave. As she stood up to follow him, she caught her leg and twisted her ankle, going down in a fall. Before she could get to the ground, Zach caught her, but she was still flailing around, and t
When he woke up and saw a call from Mr. Elliot-Day to have breakfast in his house with his family this morning, he had been so happy, because it was a sign that the man might go ahead with the deal, so without thinking about anything else, he had made breakfast for made breakfast for his sons as his daughter had spent the night over at her friend's place, and had his bath, before heading over to this place. The last thing he now expected was for his daughter to be here, walking into their dining room with confidence as if she belonged there. When he had arrived at this house, the one he happened to pass by two times every day to and from work without ever entering, he had been in awe of how beautiful the place was. And he was glad he had been invited. One could tell that the owners of the house were wealthy because everything in the house spoke of it even. He had expected the expanse of this all because he could see the outside shone and stood out. As he got to the house, a woman,
