Chapter 8

Josephine shrieked when she found Kelsey trashing her room.

“These designer clothes are well over $100,000. Mom and Dad bought these limited-edition accessories from abroad for me too.”

Josephine’s heart ached as she gathered her expensive garments and valuables from the floor. If only she could make Kelsey pay.

Kelsey glanced at her indifferently. “So what? Dad said I could move back. I have no use for your trash, so it deserves to be dumped.”

Josephine glared at her in disbelief. “Trash? Kelsey, you have no idea the value—”

Before she could finish, Kelsey grabbed a music box on the table and flung it back.

The article somehow struck Josephine in the head.

“Ouch…”

Josephine furrowed her brows in agony.

She reached out to feel her forehead, only to find herself bleeding.

The music box dropped to the ground with a thud, shattering to pieces in the fall.

“You have gone too far, Kelsey!”

Josephine yelled at Kelsey, “Don’t you know that the music box was a gift from Coo—”

The music box was a birthday gift from Cooper.

He commissioned a foreign designer to create the one-of-a-kind music box for her.

Yet now, Kelsey broke it.

“Who did you say gave it to you?” Josephine’s abrupt pause in speech made Kelsey raise her brow and ask.

Josephine flinched and averted her gaze uneasily under Kelsey’s piercing gaze.

She could not possibly tell Kelsey that Cooper had given her the music box for her birthday.

Cooper was Josephine’s suitor right from the start. In fact, he was her boyfriend now.

“Compensate me for the music box.”

Instead of answering Kelsey’s question, Josephine pounced on her with a scream.

Kelsey kicked her away.

“From now on, you’re not to step foot into my room,” Kelsey warned sternly.

The door closed with a slam.

As Josephine wailed and fussed loudly outside the door, Kelsey put on earphones and dove into a world of gaming.

Kelsey had no time for Josephine.

She was only returning the favor.

When Megan moved in with her daughter, Josephine occupied her bedroom.

The mother and daughter were in it together, dumping everything Kelsey owned in the bedroom.

Even the books and toys Kelsey’s mother bought for her were gone.

Megan and Josephine burned all her clothes right in front of her face too.

Despite her prestigious upbringing, Kelsey had to wear clothes, belonging to the household help, to school.

Kelsey’s actions toward Josephine, though not ideal, were considered mild when contrasted with the cruelty she had experienced from Megan and Josephine in the past.

The next morning, Kelsey got up and dolled herself up.

She put on makeup and went for a sultry look.

Kelsey dug out a dress Tyler once bought for her.

In the past, Tyler often bought her gifts, designer dresses included, but Kelsey turned them all down.

Still, Tyler persisted in his gift-giving.

Later, Kelsey grew numb and could not be bothered to refuse. She dumped his gifts in the bottom of a chest and locked it up.

She had no use for them anyway.

However, these luxury items were just wasting away in the chest. Kelsey intended to donate them to a charity. At least she was doing some good for him.

The clothes came in handy now.

Everybody was stunned when Kelsey showed up in the dining room in her red dress and exquisitely painted face.

Kelsey, known for her past preference for a natural look, avoided makeup and favored simpler clothing designs.

Back then, Kelsey strived for that classic elegance.

Now, Kelsey put on makeup, curled her hair, and wore a red, strappy dress. Her presence exuded a sensual charm.

It appeared she had shifted to more of a sultry vibe.

Nevertheless, Kelsey had a curvaceous figure and smooth skin to pull off that look.

Even so, Charlie was dumbfounded.

He had always thought his daughter was more like the girl next door. However, she turned out to be a bombshell.

It explained why Tyler named her his fiancée.

Megan and Josephine were filled with envy and hostility when they saw Kelsey.

“I don’t think your outfit is appropriate, Kelsey.”

Josephine still held a grudge against Kelsey for throwing her valuables away. Driven by jealousy and resentment for Kelsey’s beauty, Josephine could not be bothered to keep up with the sisterly act and tried to put Kelsey down.

“Yeah, Kelsey,” Megan echoed Josephine’s sentiment and pretended to have Kelsey’s best interest at heart. “Not to be mean, but as a member of the Young family, you should conduct yourself with grace and poise. Some people might think you walk the streets because of your revealing outfit.”

Kelsey knew from Megan’s and Josephine’s tone that she picked the right dress.

Still, she batted her lashes innocently. “Tyler gave me the dress. I thought I could make him happy by wearing something he bought for me, but since you said the dress isn’t appropriate, I’ll head upstairs and change.”

She turned around and ascended the stairs.

Megan and Josephine were frustrated to learn that the dress was from Tyler.

“Come back.”

Charlie cried out, “Since the dress was a gift from Tyler, you should meet him in that.”

It felt like someone had pulled the rug out from under Megan and Josephine.

“Sure, Dad.” Kelsey returned to her seat at the dinner table with a smile.

She knew Charlie would stand by her outfit once she associated the clothing item with Tyler.

Nothing was more important to Charlie than coming together with the Langs through marriage.

He did not mind knocking his mistress and illegitimate daughter down a peg if it meant Kelsey was willing to marry Tyler.

After breakfast, Kelsey went to the Lang Group’s office building to find Tyler.

Standing as a landmark in Abervale, the Lang Group’s office building boasted an exterior as opulent and grand as its lavish interior.

Kelsey appeared in the lobby of the office building in her red number and stilettos.

She attracted a lot of attention.

Looking straight ahead, Kelsey made her way to the elevator.

However, she was stopped by the receptionist.

“Can I help you, miss?”

Kelsey took off her sunglasses and grinned. “I’m here for Tyler.”

It was her first time meeting Tyler at his place of work, so the receptionist did not recognize her.

The receptionist checked Kelsey out discreetly, assuming that the latter was more than friends with her CEO as Kelsey addressed him by his first name.

She would not dare dismiss Kelsey. “Do you have a prior appointment with him?”

Kelsey shook her head. “No.”

The receptionist was put in a spot. “Usually, we can’t let you take the elevator without an appointment.”

She glanced at Kelsey and probed, “Why don’t you give Mr. Lang a call? We can let you through with his permission.”
