Chapter 10

“Why are you still here? See that? That’s the CEO’s girlfriend. You should leave now,” with Kelsey standing there, the receptionist said in an unfriendly manner.

“Girlfriend? Zara?” Kelsey pressed.

She had no idea that Zara was Tyler’s girlfriend.

“That’s what everybody’s saying anyway. I’m sure the CEO will pop the question to Ms. Quest soon.”

The receptionist looked at Kelsey in disdain. “Just because you’re pretty, you think you can hit on the CEO. Well, fat chance.”

Kelsey intended to leave since Tyler did not want to see her.

However, Kelsey ran into Zara in the lobby. Rumors had it that Zara was Tyler’s girlfriend, and to make matters worse, Zara possessed the necklace left behind by his parents.

Kelsey could not walk away from that.

She had to meet Tyler that day itself.

Kelsey needed to ask Tyler what was going on between him and Zara.

They had talked things out at the hotel, and the engagement was still on. He was supposed to propose to her.

Yet, Tyler stopped taking her calls and refused to see her. Instead, he was rumored to be dating Zara. He even gave the necklace from his parents to Zara.

For all Kelsey knew, Tyler might have thought she was still lying to him and had feelings for Cooper. He likely decided to get over her and marry someone else in a fit of rage.

Even so, he should not pick Zara.

Tyler knew that woman had always had it in for Kelsey, often looking for trouble.

He used to hate Zara and refused to give her the time of the day.

Now, Tyler was open to marriage with Zara.

Kelsey suspected that Tyle was trying to get on her nerves.

“Please have Shawn pass the message to Tyler that I won’t leave until he sees me,” Kelsey said, her expression determined as ever.

The receptionist was taken aback.

She had encountered many women clinging to Tyler, but Kelsey stood out as the boldest of them all.

Tyler had mentioned that he did not know her. Yet, she refused to leave.

Besides, Kelsey had met with Zara, Tyler’s girlfriend and future wife. Still, the receptionist could not believe Kelsey’s audacity to stick around.

The way the receptionist saw it, Kelsey had the looks and body, but Zara was a big star.

Kelsey had nothing on Zara.

To the receptionist, Kelsey did not know her place. The receptionist glanced at Kelsey mockingly before ignoring her completely.

Kelsey spent the whole day waiting in the lobby.

She had not had a bite of food or a drop of water from morning to evening.

Kelsey was still waiting when the employees of the Lang Group clocked out at the end of their shifts.

The receptionist looked at Kelsey before leaving. “You’ve been waiting all day. The CEO won’t see you. What’s the point of staying put?”

Kelsey looked determined. “I said I’m not going anywhere until I see him.”

The receptionist sighed. She had never met a stubborn woman like her.

“Carry on waiting then. I’m off work, and the CEO has been working late into the night for the past few days.”

Despite the receptionist’s reservation, she relayed a piece of important information to Kelsey.

Tyler had been working late recently.

In other words, Tyler was still in the office.

Kelsey raised her brow at her. “It’s okay. I’ll wait for as long as it takes.”

The receptionist shook her head helplessly and turned to leave.

Kelsey waited another few hours until the clock struck ten.

The lobby was empty and quiet.

Sometimes, Kelsey could hear her belly rumbling with hunger.

Still, she stood there, her eyes fixed on the inactive elevator.

Unable to take it anymore, the security guard on duty approached her.

“Why are you still here, miss?”

“I’m waiting for Tyler,” Kelsey replied.

The security guard studied her face, assuming Kelsey was another woman drooling over the CEO.

He gave her the heads-up out of the kindness of his heart, “Don’t wait here, miss. The CEO takes the elevator straight to the basement parking lot after work.”

Kelsey was surprised.

It quickly dawned on her.

Tyler would not stop by the lobby to get to the basement parking lot after work.

She was wasting her time by waiting in the lobby.

“Thank you, mister!”

Kelsey thanked the security guard swiftly and darted to the basement parking lot in her heels.

Due to the rush, she sprained her ankle.

However, that was the least of Kelsey’s concerns because she needed to get to the basement parking lot as soon as possible.

At half-past eleven, Tyler, dressed in a sharp suit, walked out of the elevator to the basement parking lot at last.

Shawn and two bodyguards stayed close behind him.

Tyler was talking to Shawn while walking.

The bodyguard carried Tyler’s briefcase and kept a step behind reverently.

Upon reaching his Rolls Royce, Tyler stopped in his tracks and paused his conversation with Shawn.

He turned around and saw the red silhouette leaning against his car.

Tyler’s breath was taken away when he laid eyes on Kelsey.

He had never seen her dolled up.

Kelsey usually went for a simple and modest look.

The strappy red dress today hugged her beautiful curves, amplifying an air of sensuality.

Tyler had always known she was beautiful. Still, he was blown away by her appeal when she dressed up.

His heart pounded.

On the outside, Tyler’s face remained callous and stoic.

“There you are, Tyler. Why are you working so late?”

Noticing his eyes on her, Kelsey greeted him.

Only God knew how long she had been waiting for him.

Tyler glanced at her indifferently as if she was a stranger.

“Why are you here?”

Kelsey blinked with a smile. “I’m here for you.”

Tyler pressed his lips together. “What do you want?”

“I want to clarify to you about me and Cooper last night—” Kelsey said eagerly.

The mention of Cooper made Tyler frown.

“Spare me the details about you and him!” He interrupted her.

Tyler got into his car and slammed the door shut.

Kelsey froze there.

He brushed her off and got into the car before she could finish talking.

“Hey!”

She pounded on the car window, desperate to say something.

Tyler barked an order to the chauffeur in the front. “Drive!”
