Kelsey was concerned. “You’re coming by yourself for a checkup? Why isn’t Adam coming with you?”

Yvonne's expression shifted slightly upon hearing this. A dark sheet suddenly came up over her eyes.

“He's busy with work.” She made up an excuse for Adam.

Kelsey frowned with disapproval. “Even if he is busy, he can't let you come to the hospital all by yourself for a checkup. What if something happens to you?”

Yvonne responded with a bitter smile, “He asked his mother to come with me, but I was the one who refused the offer. I knew that if she came with me, she was going to drum up a situation and make me perform an ultrasound to find out the gender of the baby. If she finds out it’s a girl, they will want me to divorce Adam.”

Kelsey was baffled by the comment. “How patriarchal! They don’t want a daughter? What, do they think they need an heir to inherit an empire? Also, you’re not the only parent of the child. Why is Adam not coming with you in person but is sending his mother in pl
