"See me in my office." That was all Raymond said before the call went to an abrupt end. but then, Mae shrank heavily, and cold shivers suddenly travelled down her spine.
It would be easier to admit that his voice obviously had a superficial effect on her. well, not just his voice, his presence did too.
Immediately, her heart raced as she approached the door, but then she told herself, "Face it, girl, he won't bite.'
However, Mae would say that was all joke. The moment she stepped into his office, and set her foot in, her heart nearly jumped to her throat.
"I'm here as you requested sir," she stood still with her head bowed, she bit her lips feeling nervous to the point of sweating, she raised her head slowly to meet Raymond's piercing gaze, she stared into his eyes without saying a word.
She shivered at the intensity of hatred she saw in his eyes.
"When did you give birth?" There was a sudden drop-pin silence ensuing between them both. Mae suddenly thought about how he had managed to know about her child. She wondered when he started keeping close tabs on her. And then too, she wondered if he knew the child was his. it would be devastating.
instead of responding, she kept quiet instead.
"Cat got your tongue, Miss Madison?" He asked sarcastically.
Mae stood still not saying anything, she played with her fingers. She had never been so nervous as this in her entire life.
"Never knew I would see you like this in this lifetime. The once arrogant and proud heiress of Madison Group is now one of my staff..." Raymond paused staring at her expression.
Mae bit her lips hard to prevent her from bursting into tears.
She bowed her head staring at the ground while playing with her fingers.
"Standing in front of me with her head bowed looking as meek as possible!" He continued with a sneer mocking her. Mae shut her eyes tightly in embarrassment.
"I never really expected you to whore yourself out because of poverty. I thought highly of you but I guess I was wrong" he concluded looking disappointed and a bit pained.
Mae finally raised and looked at Raymond warily, realizing the meaning behind his words.
Once a naive and arrogant rich girl, she had fallen to become a menial worker, despite having a good education and even high abilities.
However, there was no good company willing to hire her. The warning was already out that any company that dared to hire her would face bankruptcy. Mae knew it was the work of those who hated her, but she was powerless to stop it.
Therefore, she could only go to some ordinary companies, such as the one she was in now, but she never expected that this company would be acquired by Raymond.
Her eyes were misty with unshed tears, she bit her lips hardly that they bled while trying to hold her tears in.
Raymond stared at her, their eyes connected. They are both trying to read through each other while staring into their eyes.
All Raymond could see in her eyes were pain, regrets, and love. He frowned his face in confusion, he must have seen wrong because she made it clear to him that she wanted nothing to do with him after their break up.
He must have seen wrong, 'she couldn't still love him after all this while'. He thought confused.
Mae stared hard into Raymond's eyes, his eyes were filled with disgust, disappointment, love, lust and care. She burst into tears feeling confused.
'Does he still love her after everything she had done to him?' She thought, her heart racing at the thought of it being true.
She couldn't tell whether he intentionally acquired the company because he knew she was there or whether it was a coincidence.
Raymond looked at Mae without saying a word, feeling even more low pressure.
Raymond suddenly smiled weirdly.
"Have you ever thought that it was karma that caught up with you because you have always been a filthy lying bitch!" He criticised her without showing any pity.
Mae folded her palms tightly finding their discussion unbearable.
" I guess you never expected to meet me in this kind of situation where I'd be bossing you around " he concluded with a smirk on his face.
Mae bit her lip, feeling bitter inside, she restrained her emotions and breathed in and out trying to calm herself down. Truly, she had never thought their next meeting would turn out this way.
"Is there anything you want me to do for you Mr Wright, if not I would like to take my leave please?" She requested calmly.
Raymond stared at Mae without speaking. She no longer lowered her head timidly but looked directly into his eyes.
Raymond's eyes became more and more indifferent."Come up with a plan regarding this contract " he said throwing a file to her.
Mae was a little bit surprised. Although she was a top architecture student, since her family declined and others had been plotting against her, she had not been involved in any construction projects and had been doing odd jobs instead.
She furrowed her brows in confusion, " Um, s..." She tried saying but he interrupted her harshly.
"This is to test your ability. It is up to you to prove to me that you are worth this job or prove that Anderson was right about you seducing your way here!" He muttered surprisingly calm.
Mae gulped down feeling nervous, 'what if something goes wrong?' She thought.
"if you can't design excellent engineering drafts and plans, you should be ready to leave the company". He dictated.
"The company does not employ idle and incompetent people neither does it employ whores who only know how to flirt their way up and only knows how to do menial tasks." He reminded her and snickered.
Mae felt hurt and mocked but she swallowed her pain.
"I would do a good job sir" she said bowing lightly earning a sneer and mocking gaze from Raymond.
"It feels so good seeing you looking miserable and helpless. Who knows, this is the same expression you gave those guys you trapped with your slutty body" he mocked with a satisfied smirk on his face.
" I would do anything to continue seeing you suffer this way!" He added.
A tear dropped cascading down her cheeks, she wiped off the stubborn tear and bowed her head before taking her leave.
Mae returned to her office in a bad mood, she bent her head on her table trying hard not to cry but tears kept pouring out of her eyes. She furiously cleaned the tears but it was futile as more kept coming. After some minutes she was finally able to stop crying. Throughout the day she was in a daze, reminiscing about past memories, she didn't have the energy to take a look at the documents. Raymond's words kept popping in her head, and the more she thought about them, the more upset she felt. ' He has really changed ' she thought smiling sadly. Finally, she made it through the workday and left promptly at the end of her shift. Her habit of leaving on time made her not have any friends at work and also made her colleagues unhappy, as they felt she wasn't taking her work seriously. But Mae didn't care about their opinions. As long as she finished her work, leaving on time was her right. One reason Mae left work promptly every time was to pick up her son, Micheal. Every day before w
"Shit!" Mae Madison yelled as she checked the time on her phone and realized she was going to be late for work. She quickly ran to the shower and got ready for work."Bye, Michael, be good to your grandma!" she told her son after which she exited the door. She finally got to her office, but then her colleagues were just coming out of the conference room."Why are you late, Mae?" Mr. Andrew Anderson, her supervisor, asked."My apologies sir," she replied, staring at his mischievous smile."See me in my office immediately," he ordered, and she bit her lips in anguish as she hesitated a little. However, he raised his bushy eyebrows at her expecting a reply."Yes, sir," she replied. At first, she proceeded to keep her bag on her desk before going to his office, knowing fully well that his call wasn't about her being late. She knocked on the door, and it took about five minutes before she heard the words,"Come in." slowly, she opened the door and walked briskly.Andrew was seated on his l
"What is going on here?" A magnetic male voice resounded, Mae felt that the voice was particularly familiar. Andrew who was pressing on her, hurriedly got down enabling her to stand upright. She looked up to see her ex-boyfriend, Raymond dressed in an expensive suit, he was standing at the door.Mae stared at Raymond standing at the door, panicking and pulling her rumpled clothes into place. She never expected to reunite with Raymond in such an embarrassing situation.Tears rolled down her eyes, she bent her head in shame staring at the tiled floor.Andrew adjusted his attire smiling nervously."Welcome boss!" He greeted moving closer to Raymond and stretched his hand out for a handshake. However, Raymond ignored his hand leaving him embarrassed."What the fuck are you still doing here you slut, get out!" He shouted at Mae, taking his frustration on her.Mae gritted her teeth, she got frustrated at herself for being unable to hold back her tears. She felt pathetic. She couldn't
After Raymond left, Anderson turned to Mae and looked at her smugly. " I bet your slutty self won't enjoy the rest of the time you would be working here but don't worry because you won't be here for long anyways," he remarked with a smirk on his face." I hope karma catches up with you!" Mae retorted sharply gritting her teeth in anger." You b..." Anderson was about to yell furiously but was stopped when Mae turned around and left his office.' Why would he give me a promotion all of a sudden?' Mae thought to herself while walking back to her office. She pushed the door open and went in, she sat down and sighed. "He should hate me not promote me!" She muttered raising her hands in the air in confusion. However, she had not sat back for too long when her rest was suddenly interrupted by a loud bang from the door.Mae clicked her head sideways, only to have her gaze fall on a lean man with blonde hair brushed backwards.
