After Raymond left, Anderson turned to Mae and looked at her smugly.
" I bet your slutty self won't enjoy the rest of the time you would be working here but don't worry because you won't be here for long anyways," he remarked with a smirk on his face.
" I hope karma catches up with you!" Mae retorted sharply gritting her teeth in anger.
" You b..." Anderson was about to yell furiously but was stopped when Mae turned around and left his office.
' Why would he give me a promotion all of a sudden?' Mae thought to herself while walking back to her office.
She pushed the door open and went in, she sat down and sighed."He should hate me not promote me!" She muttered raising her hands in the air in confusion.
However, she had not sat back for too long when her rest was suddenly interrupted by a loud bang from the door.
Mae clicked her head sideways, only to have her gaze fall on a lean man with blonde hair brushed backwards.
She looked at him clueless as to who he was, but before she could ask a question, he was quick to resolve to an introduction.
"Hi, I'm Gregory but you can call me Greg", he said stretching his hand out for a handshake.
Mae stared at him strangely before taking the handshake.
" Um, what can I do for you, Greg?" She asked curiously.
" I'm Mr Wright's secretary and I am here to remind you to move your stuff to the first floor as soon as possible. Another person would be taking over your office in about..." he stretched the word while checking his time.
"An hour " he concluded with a polite smile.
'if he has a secretary, what does he need me for?" She muttered to herself in confusion.
"You said something, ma'am?" Greg asked
"No, no. I didn't say anything Greg and you can call me Mae," she responded with a fake smile.
'What is he planning? Is he trying to embarrass me before firing me?'
"Mr Wright said to give you strictly forty minutes to be done or you wouldn't be too sure of his next action." A weird smile flashed across his face.
"I'm pretty sure you are not going to refuse this offer right?" He said blinking his eyes weirdly. "It might be disastrous Mae."
Mae widened her eyes and looked at Greg In shock.
She couldn't afford to lose this job, her mother was still in the hospital, and it cost a lot of money every month.
She also had a child to support. If she loses her job again, she was far from a solution as regards support.
'Now that he is here, what if he finds out that we have a child?' I have to make sure that he never finds out!' she secretly resolved within herself.
Greg noticed that she was distracted, and he knocked on her desk. She was not quick to respond and he patiently stood for a while before knocking on her desk again and this time louder than before.
"No, no, I accept the offer," she responded faking a smile.
"Good. I'd be back in an hour" he concluded waving at her as he left her office.
Mae sighed farrowing her eyebrows still confused, she pushed her hand into her hair.
A few minutes later, she got up and started packing her stuff. Just as the moment she was rounding up, Greg returned. "Are you done, Miss Madison?" He asked smiling politely.
Taking a last look at her office, she responded. "Yes, I'm done packing my stuff," she responded.
Greg had guessed that Mae and Mr Raymond had a special relationship, so he didn't dare to be rude to her.
"Can we leave now ma'am?" He asked too politely for her liking.
" Um, you can call me Mae" she requested.
" I'd rather call you Miss Madison. So shall we?" He said leading the way. He helped her carry her stuff leaving her to carry her handbag.
"Oh, thanks," she said in surprise and quickly walked after him finding it difficult to keep up with his pace.
She noticed the strange look her colleagues were giving her, she felt helpless and quickly rush after Gregory.
Upon reaching the top floor, she looked around in awe. "This is your office ma'am," he said stopping in front of a door.
"Thank you so much, Greg," said smiling in gratitude.
"You are welcome Miss Madison." Greg responded and walked away.
Mae looked around and stopped in shock the moment her eyes landed on the door in front of her office.
' Please don't tell me his office is right in front of mine!' She thought screaming in her head.
There was a label on the door in front of her office that read " CEO"
to make matters worse, her office was a constructed with clear glass, which amounted to one thing. All he had to do was to open his window blinds and he would see her.
Nevertheless, she brushed that aside, taking few strides off. There was more she needed to focus on other than that, she thought to herself.
Mae thought she had seen all, but just the moment she stepped into the office, her jaw dropped.
The office was just a perfect example of a beauty.
Mae was quick to arrange her things and with a gasp sat on her soft black leather chair, but then her joy didnt last long. The landline suddenly rang, she picked it up placing it on her ear.
"See me in my office."
"Report to my office!" Raymond's voice boomed interrupting her. He hung up immediately leaving her shocked.
She stood up and went to his office, standing in front of his office, she took a deep breath in and out.Mae knocked on the door and heard Raymond say. "Come in".
After chanting her mantra she pushed open the door and stepped in.She walked in with her head down and dared not meet Raymond's gaze. She was afraid that she would see Raymond's eyes full of hatred if she lifted her head.
"When did you give birth to a child Mrs Madison?" He asked sarcastically.Mae raised her head up in shock meeting Raymond's disappointed gaze.
"See me in my office." That was all Raymond said before the call went to an abrupt end. but then, Mae shrank heavily, and cold shivers suddenly travelled down her spine. It would be easier to admit that his voice obviously had a superficial effect on her. well, not just his voice, his presence did too.Immediately, her heart raced as she approached the door, but then she told herself, "Face it, girl, he won't bite.'However, Mae would say that was all joke. The moment she stepped into his office, and set her foot in, her heart nearly jumped to her throat."I'm here as you requested sir," she stood still with her head bowed, she bit her lips feeling nervous to the point of sweating, she raised her head slowly to meet Raymond's piercing gaze, she stared into his eyes without saying a word. She shivered at the intensity of hatred she saw in his eyes."When did you give birth?" There was a sudden drop-pin silence ensuing between them both. Mae suddenly thought about how he had managed to
Mae returned to her office in a bad mood, she bent her head on her table trying hard not to cry but tears kept pouring out of her eyes. She furiously cleaned the tears but it was futile as more kept coming. After some minutes she was finally able to stop crying. Throughout the day she was in a daze, reminiscing about past memories, she didn't have the energy to take a look at the documents. Raymond's words kept popping in her head, and the more she thought about them, the more upset she felt. ' He has really changed ' she thought smiling sadly. Finally, she made it through the workday and left promptly at the end of her shift. Her habit of leaving on time made her not have any friends at work and also made her colleagues unhappy, as they felt she wasn't taking her work seriously. But Mae didn't care about their opinions. "Shit!" Mae Madison yelled as she checked the time on her phone and realized she was going to be late for work. She quickly ran to the shower and got ready for work."Bye, Michael, be good to your grandma!" she told her son after which she exited the door. She finally got to her office, but then her colleagues were just coming out of the conference room."Why are you late, Mae?" Mr. Andrew Anderson, her supervisor, asked."My apologies sir," she replied, staring at his mischievous smile."See me in my office immediately," he ordered, and she bit her lips in anguish as she hesitated a little. However, he raised his bushy eyebrows at her expecting a reply."Yes, sir," she replied. At first, she proceeded to keep her bag on her desk before going to his office, knowing fully well that his call wasn't about her being late. She knocked on the door, and it took about five minutes before she heard the words,"Come in." slowly, she opened the door and walked briskly.Andrew was seated on his l
"What is going on here?" A magnetic male voice resounded, Mae felt that the voice was particularly familiar. Andrew who was pressing on her, hurriedly got down enabling her to stand upright. She looked up to see her ex-boyfriend, Raymond dressed in an expensive suit, he was standing at the door.Mae stared at Raymond standing at the door, panicking and pulling her rumpled clothes into place. She never expected to reunite with Raymond in such an embarrassing situation.Tears rolled down her eyes, she bent her head in shame staring at the tiled floor.Andrew adjusted his attire smiling nervously."Welcome boss!" He greeted moving closer to Raymond and stretched his hand out for a handshake. However, Raymond ignored his hand leaving him embarrassed."What the fuck are you still doing here you slut, get out!" He shouted at Mae, taking his frustration on her.Mae gritted her teeth, she got frustrated at herself for being unable to hold back her tears. She felt pathetic. She couldn't
