Alpha Jon’s POV

Five Years Later

“You can't keep treating me this way, Jon. What is wrong with you?” Susan asks with her eyes widened in anger.

“You won't talk to me. You haven't made me feel like a woman for so long. You can't even stand being in the same place with me.”

I stared at the face of the woman that I thought I loved but I felt nothing but resentment for her. Her beautiful long hair and very curvy figure didn't appeal to me anymore. All I wanted was to be away from her, but she always found a way to make it difficult.

I ignored her bickerings and rantings, making sure to maintain eye contact. It was the only way to let her know that I heard all of her bullshit, but I didn't give a damn about them.

When she got tired, she hissed and turned around to leave. “You are stuck with me, Jon. Don't forget that!” She yelled on her way out. Still, I said nothing. I just leaned back on my chair and let my mind drift to what was troubling me.

After Caro left, Susan and I got closer and I hoped we'd get married. For sure, I didn't love her like I loved Caro. No. Nothing could ever compete with that, but I was attracted to her and after letting Caro go, Susan was all that I had left.

Everything changed when I realised who she truly was; a snake, a liar, and a monster, just to say the least.

She made me believe that Caro was a slut back in school. She told me Caro couldn't birth my kids because she had removed her womb and I easily believed her. Why not? I'd stayed three years without a child.

Yet, five years later, I still had no child. Susan was unable to give me an heir. A few times, she told me that she was pregnant. All lies, just like all she said about Caro, just so I could send her away. She was supposed to be her best friend.

I stood from my seat and paced around the throne room feeling so uneasy. Thoughts of Caro kept running around my head, so much that I could barely think of anything else. I loved her still, and for some reason, it seemed like the bond we shared remained despite the rejection.

“Come on, Jon, you're going to hurt yourself. Is this still about Caroline?” Asked Sam, my Beta, as he walked into the throne room with an envelope in his hand. “I've told you to stop killing yourself over this.”

“What do you have for me, Sam?” I stretched out my hand to take the envelope from him but he moved his hand away.

“No. This isn't for you. I'm yet to get any news concerning Caroline but I have someone helping me out with that. He said he’s onto something and will get back to me anytime soon,” he disclosed. “Why don't you give it up, man? We might not be able to find her. Would you worry yourself to death this way?”

“We have to find her. We just have to. Nothing else matters to me, Sam. Can't you see that?”

“I know, Jon,” he sighed. “But it's been over two years since you asked me to find her and I've been doing all that I can, all to no avail.”

“Maybe you're not doing enough,” I glared at him. “Perhaps, I need to get someone else to do this task seeing how incapable you are.”

“Not so, Alpha. I'm…” his phone rang and he paused to see who it was. “Just a moment, Jon. It's the guy. Let me hear what he has to say.”

I stood there with folded arms and watched as he went to a corner to speak with the guy. In a few minutes, he was done and he walked back to me looking all gloomy.

“What happened? Did he tell you where she is?”

“I have both good and bad news, Jon. Which do you want first?” He arched his brow.

“I don't want these games, Sam. What's the good news?”

“We've found Caroline. My friend just told me where she is,” he smiled a little and my Joy knew no bounds.

“Yes!” I yelled, leaping with joy. I could barely contain my excitement. “Let's go see her right away, Sam.”

“Wait. Hold on. I'm not done yet,” Sam revealed, bringing me to a halt as I started to make my way out. “You've not heard the bad news.”

I gazed into his eyes as he sighed and bowed his head. “She's at the Black Fur Pack,” he revealed, leaving me in shock. “I heard that she's staying with Alpha Boris too. They've been seen together a couple of times. I don't think we should go there.”

I gasped. The Black Fur Pack wasn't a place I looked forward to going to. Our Packs have been in enmity for a while. Alpha Boris and I didn't see eye to eye either. He hated me with passion and the feeling was mutual.

Yet, it only made me want to go there even more. I wondered what could happen to her if he found out that she was married to me and I was more fuelled. “We need to leave now,” I said to Sam and quickly began to walk out of the throne room.

“No, you can't do that, Jon,” he chased after me, trying to stop me. “We can't just walk into the Black Fur Pack's territory unprepared. What if he asks his men to kill us? Please, man, think about this. It could be that she's happy over there. Let's not put ourselves in danger.”

I ignored him and walked straight to the car which was parked right outside the building. “Get inside,” I ordered him and I opened the door and got inside.

He reluctantly got in and started the car and I knew he wasn't happy. He wanted to keep me safe, but the only way that could happen was by taking me to Caro. My life was nothing without her.

As soon as he started the car and began to drive, Susan ran out of the house and began to yell at us. “I'm sure it's Caroline you're going to look for,” she voiced in anger. “I won't let anyone take my place. I swear!”
