Chapter 17

We got to the bathroom and I waited outside for a few minutes. She came outside eventually with a paper towel.

She quickly turned back. "What happened, Chloe?"

"Um, I saw someone running along the hallways right now."

"Really?" I asked, my heart racing. "Let's go check it out."

"Okay," she agreed, and I followed her as she led the way down the corridor. The atmosphere was tense, and every shadow seemed to loom larger. Chloe turned a corner, and I stopped short when I heard loud screaming.

"Chloe, Chloe, what's wrong?" I ran, confusion and fear tightening my chest. My blood ran cold as I saw Chloe drenched in blood on the ground on the first floor.

"Chloe!" I screamed, the sound ripping from my throat. The others came rushing upstairs, their faces pale with shock.

"Oh. My. God. Chloe, what have you done?" Helena snapped, her eyes wild.

Shivering, my hands cold, I stammered, "I didn't do anything. I didn't do anything. Why is she on the floor? Why is there blood?"
