Chapter 9

I had to get up pretty early to prepare for school today. Darren managed to convince me to go. I wonder how Claire has been doing.

It gladdens me a bit that she might be the one I've been looking for, but it saddens me that she might be in much more danger than I expected.

Claire, from what I've observed so far at Riverdale High, is hated. She doesn't realize it; even her best friends, I doubt them. I've had a hard time trusting people during my time in the pack as an Alpha.

I got dressed up and put on my LV cardigan, feeling a bit under the weather.

I wasn't much surprised at the usual noise so early in the morning.

Claire's name, as usual, was always being mentioned. I wonder why Claire is always the subject of gossip.

I needed to take a nap, so I placed my head on the desk. My eyes snapped open at hearing something.

"Helena." I called out, never thinking I'd talk to this girl in a million years.

"Yes, Lucas?" she answered, her eyes twinkling with amusement.

"What did you just say?"

"Oh!" She chuckled.

"Seems like Claire got bored of you. She is in a romantic relationship with Blake." she said mockingly.

She walked back to her friends, and I was met with yet another shock.

Blake? Her cousin? I mean, I'm not bothered that it's her cousin, but she was avoiding him completely the other day.

Does she like him? Is that a way girls express feelings? I have to look into this so-called Blake.

I shouldn't even trust Helena. I'll just wait until Claire comes to clarify the gossips.

My thoughts were interrupted by the unusual silence of the class.

Blake and Claire walked in, Claire's face all flustered. Blake's tie looked undone and crumpled.

"Looks like they just came out of a make-out session." I mumbled.

Blake sat next to Claire as they held hands. We are just partners for a project after all but at the same time. The only reason I'm in Riverdale High is her.

I don't think she knows about her true form but I'm still not sure about it yet.

I tried to ignore their sneak jokes in class. I'm not a fan of relationships, they do nothing but leave wounds.

Claire made a shabby attempt to acknowledge me in class. “Hiii." She waved.

I raised my eyebrows in response to her greeting. I was too uninterested in whatever was going on to care so much about her hi’s and hellos.

She scrunched her face in confusion and I just continued with what I was doing.

Class was over and I resumed my nap. Claire called out to me but I gave no response, she was pulled away by her so-called boyfriend.

“I knew I should have stayed at home.” I mumbled under my breath.

The day ended in a blur, I wasn't listening to half of the lectures I sat in.

“Lucas, did something happen?. You looked uneasy in class." Claire said in her text message.

Uneasy?, I was definitely looking at ease. I shook all of her thoughts off and went to the football field. I needed to cool off.

Unfortunately, I met with Sir Blake Cooper.

“What are you doing here?" He asked, irritation evident in his tone.

“Uh, it's the football field. I can be here whenever I want to." I said, standing tall in my stance.

“Orrr you're just here to cool off after finding out Claire chose me instead?” He said, clapping once and chuckling.

"I see why you both match.” I snarled and took my leave. This idiot isn't even worth words. I can't believe he ruined his impression of him before I even started to consider it.

I'll go cool off in my bed, much cozier than anywhere in Riverdale.

I noticed scars and marks on Blake's body, it made me think that he gets into fights.

Although I noticed claw marks, I'm not the one to make a mistake in recognizing claw marks.

What am I even saying, Claire's entire family and even extended, none of them is human.

“Well, that was a wasted clue.” I sighed as I got to my front yard. I got into my house, the hollow hallways and walls greeted me.

I flew onto my bed and exclaimed, "BULLSHIT!”. I was tired and exhausted, I've never felt so frustrated about life.

I opened the messenger app on my phone and opened Claire's profile. I still hadn't replied to her, I didn't really feel like it.

“Darren, look into Blake Cooper please.” I texted Darren. Darren would do a better job than I could.

"Why was Claire on a casual long-sleeved top instead of those crops she always rocked.” I said out loud, smiling.

“Ewwwwww! Ewwwwww! Ewww Lucas!" I said in disgust of myself. I have a habit of talking to myself.

I needed sleep to be myself, I might have slept all through school but it wouldn't amount to sleeping at home. Sigh!.

I drifted into slumber.

*ring *ring. *ring *ring. My phone rang multiple times.

“What?!!" I snapped.

“Come over dude. You have to come see this." Darren retorted.

“I'm tired bro, I need to sleep!" I groaned.

“Fine! Come over tomorrow. You can skip school if you want. You should!. I don't think it'll be safe for you to go." He advised.

“What are yapping all about!" I groaned and switched off my phone.

I'll be dealing with life when I wake up from my beauty sleep. I haven't even slept for an hour and yet I can't even rest!

___

Hours later, I woke up. I was feeling refreshed and energized.

“That was amazing!” I said as I stretched.

I turned on my phone and checked the time. I wasn't surprised I slept for a whole day. I sighed and laid back on the bed.

I laid down like that for ten minutes, I had to recuperate. Darren’s call was two days ago.

It was 6am, I took a shower, made breakfast and got dressed. I wasn't planning on going for classes today.

I tried playing virtual FIFA games, it has been never since I played these.

“Oh shoot!, I've been playing games for 7 hours!" I exclaimed loudly, in shock.

I quickly turned off the console. No wonder boys are so crazy about it, it's a huge waste of time and addiction. Perfect for teens!

Since it was 3pm, I headed out to see Darren.

__

I walked into Darren's villa. “What's up ma man!" I put my hand up for a high-five.

Darren just rolled his eyes at me.

“What?”

He looked up at me.

"I promise I've been asleep!”

"You owe me dinner, young man.”

"Whatever man, show me the stuff”

" Oh yeah” he answered.

Darren clicked on a file with Blake's name. All his past, present and possible future was present in the file.

"Blake IS a werewolf. He's Cooper's son?!”

I shouted.

"Why didn't you tell me this earlier?!”

"Uh, ‘I need my beauty sleep’, remember oh great sir. I freaking called you!” Darren snapped.

"Shit!, my beauty sleep cost me this! Ughh.” I groaned.

Blake was no ordinary werewolf. He's a wolverine!. The people that I'd least never want to be with the Luna.

"Does he know that she's Luna?, Was that why he decided to seduce her to dating him?” I thought out loud.

"Dating?” Darren interjected inquisitively.

"Yes man, this is some deep shit.”

"You've got to break that relationship apart, she's literally playing with the knifes that have been appointed to kill her.” Darren lamented sadly.

“What do you think they planning?, Do you think they all know or it's just the Coopers’ or just Blake or anybody?” Darren asked in curiosity.

“Claire is in more danger than she even realizes but don't you think her parents know?. Look into their entire family, RavenWood.” I told Darren.

“I have to ask Claire why she's in this relationship. As far as I've noticed, she never showed any interest so why."

I left Darren's place and went home. I couldn't just go to school like this, at this time to talk to Claire. It'll be suspicious.

When it was getting darker, I told Darren to come over for dinner. I had promised him dinner tonight.

Darren came over and I served him some meatballs and macaroni.

“Look man, don't be too upset about this. This isn't our first rodeo but the war already began, we have to buckle down." Darren reassured.

“Thanks a lot, man. I know I know." I said.

We ate and played some games before Darren had to go. I pleaded for him to stay but he gave the excuse of wanting to look into Claire's family.

I let him go and went to my bedroom to check out Blake's details thoroughly.

"So that jerk is a bigger jerk than I thought. I don't think someone like him truly likes Claire. He's heartless!” I retorted, in worry.

According to the information I got, Blake's mom is Mrs RavenWood’s sister. They haven't been in touch in 20 years but they recently just moved to Claire's community in hopes of strengthening their bond.

Mrs Cooper is turning a blind her to the situation because of her fear for her husband and the protection of her life.

What a coward.

Blake's father is one the lead members of the Wolverines.

Blake desperately wants his Father to acknowledge him and so he decided to find Luna himself. Does he already know?

“Darren was right. The war already began, right under my nose. I've been trusted to protect her. I hope I won't let my people down.” I said, disappointment clear in demeanor.
