I laid in bed with Alexa wrapped in my arms, her naked form pressed tightly against my side. I played with her blonde tendrils as she traced invisible shapes on my bare chest. We talked for hours about random things, her goals, hopes, and I told her of mine as well. We talked about baby names and argued whether our child was going to be a boy or a girl, we had no idea the gender the baby would be and for some reasons that made me tensed. She was so easy to talk to and I found myself opening up to her about things I hadn’t even known were weighing me down, she listened to me intently commenting every now and then. Our dreams weren’t practica1 yet but they were real and I liked that we were taking steps to making that a reality.

The sun began to set and with it the warmth it provided us, neither of us was ready to let go of each other or move.

‘’Let’s get dressed.’’ I said softly into her ear making her whine.

‘’Do we have to? It your room and no one can come in here.’’ she answere

I stood in silence trying to comprehend what I had just heard, he was ready to confess or was he just trying to play games with me this time.‘’In about two days I would be going to meet with the cops.’’ he said again bringing me out of my thoughts.I dropped the call without saying a word to him, I needed to process whatever it is that’s going on. Even though we all have long waited for this day when Mark would agree to come clean and confess his grievous crimes, we still didn’t think it would be this soon. He was a very stubborn man and who knew what must have prompted him to be this gullible, or was it the fact that Camellia was involved and there was no way he could deny anything any further seeing she knew and witnessed all his crimes and was even part of them? So many thoughts ran through my head as I picked up my clothes and got dressed.‘’Did you find out who the caller was?’’ Alexa asked walking out of my closet in a pair of shorts and t-shirt.‘’Yeah.’’ I replied her absent

We finished writing out as much baby names as we loved and wanted to, played some card games and also did little paintings, now it was time to sleep. I could literally see excitement on Alexa’s face even though she was quite exhausted and feeling sleepy. I dumped the used cards and stationery on the night stand and turned off the bright lights before beckoning on Alexa to lie comfortably. She wasn’t okay with sleeping totally in the dark, so I had always had the bed side lamps left on since she moved in with me. I raised her head gently and placed a soft pillow underneath to make her more comfortable before moving closer to lie next to her. I wrapped my hands around her swiftly so that my large fingers were resting on her tummy.‘’Goodnight baby.’’ I whispered gently into her ears‘’Goodnight.’’ I heard her say before I dozed off to sleep.‘’Wake up sleepy head.’’ I heard Alexa shouting. I opened my eyes immediately knowing it wasn’t a dream’’What’s wrong? Why were you screaming at

Theresa and Camellia made sure to pack some snacks and drinks in the trunk of the car. We arrived at the park and as usual, it was busy, children were running around and playing, families were seated happily and having fun with one another. We found a spot that wasn’t so crowded and decided to hang out there, Zach and Catherine zoomed off immediately to go meet and make friends.‘’Where are you sneaking off to?’’ Theresa yelled when she saw them both running off.‘’We want to go hang out with our mates, mom.’’ Catherine replied slowly‘’Do you even know anyone around here?’’ she asked them sternlyZach made to explain to her but I beat him to it quickly, ‘’It’s okay Theresa, let them go play. But be with your phones and also at alert.’’ I said to them. They nodded their head in excitement before walking off‘’Take some snacks with you.’’ Camellia told them and standing up to get things for them.‘’We would come back for that later.’’ they both said in unison and increased their pace b

At exactly 9am, Camellia, Alexa and I walked into the police precinct with Mark following behind us. Before leaving home this morning, I had made sure to send the address of the precinct to him along with the time, he arrived earlier than us and stood outside the gate waiting. I could already sight him when we got few blocks closer, he looked so pale and a bit weak. I would tell this whole thing was taking a toll on him coupled with his lifestyle of smoking at all times, he looked sick to me. There was noo form of greetings or exchange of pleasantries between us as everyone kept a straight face, Alexa held unto my hands tightly while Camellia and Mark followed behind. We were taken into a room which had just few chairs in it and a small round table, I assumed it was the room set aside for questioning.

''We decide tomorrow.’’ I replied. Hanging up my phone and turning to Alexa who was still fast asleep. I brushed her blonde hair away from her face and placed a small kiss on her forehead, she must have been exhausted with everything going on, she was worrying herself unnecessarily. I was worried too but I couldn’t show her that, she needed me to be strong for the both of us for whatever was going on or would happen after now.I turned again tucking her properly in bed before heading downstairs, I couldn’t sleep if I wanted to. The anxious feeling in the pit of my stomach grew with each passing hour and I couldn’t just wait for all of these to be finally over. My mind went back to the day I had caught Mark on Alexa thirteen years ago, the pains and everything I felt. Without any care in the world, he had tortured Alexa and made home for her, a living hell. I wondered what exactly would have been her plight if I hadn’t seen her in the club that night or if I wasn’t in the picture right

ALEXA’S POV:The next day came by quickly making the anxiousness in the pit of my belly to grow, I just couldn’t wait for all of these to be over. Drew had decided he would be going to the court with Camellia and I didn’t have to go with them, honestly that was the best thing for me right now considering the throbbing headaches I’ve been getting recently, going there would only make it worse. For some reasons, I had woken up this morning to be very active, even though I was anxious and a bit worried, I didn’t want to show it.‘’’My mom would be here in no time.’’ I said to Drew who was still trying to find himself a fit. He didn’t want to wear anything too serious or corporate, so he had to look for something good yet casual. Finally he settled for a plain white shirt, a black jean and a white converse to match.‘’Come here.’’ she said when he caught me through the mirror staring at him lustfully. I obliged, getting up from the bed and making my way to him slowly. He spun me around

It’s been two days since Drew and my mom returned from the court, he had sent a text to me few minutes ago stating we needed to talk about something important when he returns. I can’t lie and say I’m not worried, because I am. My mind went to the text from James in my phone, I knew he saw the text that day and even though I have nothing to do with James anymore, I still felt a bit of guilt for not telling Drew about it. Why James had text me, I had no idea but I didn’t bother to reply him, instead I blocked and deleted the number. Drew hadn’t said anything to me about the text but I was certain he saw it because I had seen him with my phone when the text entered but said nothing, or maybe he was waiting for me say something about it first and come clean to him.I had no idea what it was he wanted us to discuss today but I knew for sure it was concerning us.The sound of the ringing doorbell startles me from my thoughts and I nervously stood up from the couch to go and open the door, e

Drew still hasn’t asked me anything about the text he saw in my phone, today was supposed to be the day for the court judgement, but Drew had received a text early this morning letting him know the court meeting was adjourned and that we would have to wait till two weeks. According to the judge, all evidences provided would have to be thoroughly investigated, but in the meantime Mark would have to be detained.I stood at the balcony as flashes and memory of the first night Mark assaulted filled my mind, I thought about how my mom had remained silent and allowed it continue for years. Something in me still holds a grudge against my mom but for the sake of peace and the fact she’s willing to change, has melted my heart. I decided to just focus on other things instead of dwelling in the past and allow it ruin my mood. What were the chances that I would have been happy today if I hadn’t bump into Drew at the club that night? I woke up early the next morning, feeling excited and nervous. Today was Zach's 17th birthday, and I had plans to surprise him with a special gift. I got out of bed and began to get ready for the day. Drew stirred beside me, opening one eye to look at me. "What's going on?" he asked, his voice husky with sleep."It's Zach's birthday today," I replied, smiling. Drew chuckled and sat up in bed. "Yeah, that’s right. “He’s gonna get real spoilt today.”We both got dressed and headed downstairs to the kitchen. Theresa was already there, cooking up a storm. The delicious smell of pancakes and bacon filled the air, making my stomach growl with hunger."Good morning," Theresa said, smiling at us.“Good morning.” I said and went to help her set the table. “Oh dear, Catherine should handle that.” She said and called on Catherine who rushed from her room to come set the table. “It’s fine, I want to do it.” I told her and she just nodded, stepping back into the kitchen. I couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement as Drew’s hands wrapped around my waist, pulling me closer to him. I leaned in, my lips brushing against his. We kissed softly, the tension between us building into something extra. Drew's hands traveled up my back, his fingers tracing the curve of my spine. I shivered, feeling a thrill run down my whole body. He deepened the kiss, his tongue tangling with mine and fighting fiercely for dominance. I felt myself getting lost in the moment, my heart racing with excitement. Drew's hands cupped my face, his thumbs tracing the curve of my cheeks. We broke apart for a moment, gasping for air."I love you," Drew whispered, his eyes burning with intensity."I love you too," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. We kissed again, the passion between us never quenching, gladly I was melting into his arms, our hearts beating as one.The sound of Drew's phone ringing broke the spell, and we reluctantly pulled apart. “Who wants some?” Theresa asked walking in with a plate of sandwiches. I raised my hands and she gave me some, then Zach and Catherine. We munched in silence as we continued to see the movie, just then my phone notifications went off with series of messages. I picked up my phone and checked for who the recipient was, it was Nessa. I had just spoken to her few minutes ago, I wondered what it was she had sent to me as I cleaned my hands with a paper towel and unlocked my phone. “Jezz!” I gasped, my mouth forming an ‘O’ shape. “What’s wrong?” Theresa asked looking at me, not just her, Zach and Catherine too. “Uhm, nothing serious. I’ll just go upstairs to Drew.” I told her as I stood up and made my way upstairs. “You sure everything is fine?” She asked again before I reached the hallway. “Yeah.” I answered her and nodded. “It’s just something I have to show him.” I said and pointed towards Drew’s door. I rushed in and Drew wasn’t in his room, I knew he had to be in the study. “Gue

"You know, with Christmas just around the corner, I think it's time we started decorating the house," he said, his eyes sparkling with excitement.I smiled, feeling a surge of excitement. "That sounds like someone trying to have so much fun!" I exclaimed.Drew grinned. "I am! And I want you to come with me to the store to pick out some decorations. We can make a day of it."I nodded enthusiastically. "That sounds like a blast! Who else is coming with us?"Drew thought for a moment. "How about Zach and Catherine? We can make it a fun group outing."I clapped my hands together. "Yes, that sounds perfect! Let's go get them."We finished breakfast, and then Drew and I called out to Zach and Catherine who both seemed excited to join us on our decorating adventure. The four of us piled into Drew's car and headed to the store. I woke up early, feeling a mix of emotions. Today was the day of the court case, and I was both nervous and determined.Drew was already up, getting ready for the day. He smiled at me as I got out of bed. "Good morning, beautiful," he said. "Are you ready for today?"I nodded, taking a deep breath. "Yes, I'm ready," I said.We got dressed and went downstairs, where my mom was waiting already. We had a quick breakfast, and then we headed out to the court. As we arrived at the court, I could feel my heart racing. I was scared, but I knew I had to be strong. We went inside and found our seats in the courtroom. Mark was already there, sitting with his lawyer. He looked smug and confident, but I knew that wasn't going to last. The judge came in, and the trial began. Henry presented our case, showing all the evidence we had gathered. Mark's lawyer tried to defend him, but it was clear that they didn't have a strong case. Then it was my turn to testify. I decided to open the folder, my heart sinking Inside when I saw pictures of me dancing at the club, pictures of me picking up money from men. Drew smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Put it away, I'll always stand up for you," he said. "No matter what. He was trying to manipulate me into forgiving him, but it's not going to work. He’s so much and should pay for his crimes. And here, I got the video,” He said, handling me a small flash drive. I did as he said, stuffing the folder in my handbag alongside the flash drive. My mom stood outside the car waiting for us, "What did he say?" she asked as soon as we got close, her voice trembling with anger. I shook my head, not wanting to relive the experience. "It doesn't matter, Mom. We're not going to let him get to us. We're going to focus on moving forward and making sure he pays for what he's done."My mom nodded, her eyes shining with tears. The next morning we all headed to the precinct again, Drew wanted to speak with the lawyers concerning the video, my mom and I decided it was best if we also went along with him. Drew had asked us to sit in the lobby and wait for him while he looked for the lawyer and have a conversation with them, we agreed but few minutes sitting there, I got up and decided to do what has lingered on my mind for a long time. “I’ll be right back.” I told my mom as I got up from my seat. “You sure you don’t want me coming with you?” She asked me, concerned. “No, I won’t take long.” I told her and walked off quickly. I walked out of the lobby and into the hallway, I didn’t know the exact room where Mark is kept but I had overheard the lawyer telling Drew it was in room 12. I moved as fast as my legs could carry me down the hallway before anybody saw me or stopped me, I kept looking up at the numbers written on the door till I finally saw it. ‘Knock first! 12’ was boldly written on the door, I knew

I glanced up at the lawyer and he gave me a reassuring smile, encouraging me to speak. I smiled back at him and started to talk. “It was hell! I was still an infant when my mom had moved into his with me, I didn’t understand anything at that point but one thing I still remember was the fact that I never got any kind of fatherly love or affection from Mark. He was disgusted by everything I did and beat me up or push me at the slightest mistake I made. It got worst whenever he was drunk, he never wanted to see me happy or playing around with children my age. When I was 10, he dragged me into his room one night and raped me. His son Drew was my only companion in the house, my mom said nothing to the constant beating and abuse because she was scared. He forced me to work even before I got to the age of consent, his excuse being that I had to contribute my own share for staying in his house. The rape, torture and abuse continued whenever I was alone at home and Drew was no where to fight

The rest of the day went by with Drew and I talking, cuddling and just hanging out in his bed room. When it was time for dinner, we headed downstairs to eat with the whole family. After which we returned back to his room, watched some comedy and went to bed. I was extremely tired like the previous evening, though it was caused by different activities. It was easier for me to fall asleep and I lured Drew to sleep early as well. “The lawyer called, we should get ready to visit the police precinct.” Drew announced casually as soon as he walked out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist, his upper body still wet from the shower. I rubbed my eyes which were still full of sleep and yawned, stretching my body all over the bed. “Is there a problem?” I asked him. “Nothing much, I think your mom would be taken in for questioning today, you as well. I’ll go inform her later.” He said and walked into his closet. I just nodded, still lying down. “What time are we leaving?” I qu
