Marco’s POV“Good morning!” I woke up earlier than Skye and Gab. Actually, I did not get to sleep for more than a few minutes wink, due to a very strange dream that I had. Strange because I could no longer recall the content of my dream, but I was feeling refreshed and lighthearted. A totally different mood from how I felt before I fell asleep last night. “Hey….!” Skye responded lazily, yawning and stretching her limbs on the narrow bed, making Gab snuggle her body tighter as if he was on the edge of the bed when in fact, there was a good foot space left empty behind him since he was almost engulfing Skye in his embrace.“There was nothing much to make for breakfast, so how about some toast and coffee before we head out?” I asked, moving closer to kiss her forehead. Skye reached her palm to press on my forehead gently. Then she cupped my face while she stared at me with squinted eyes. “What?” I asked, chuckling. “I think I saw a different you last night,” Skye answered with a ras
Skye’s POVI woke up refreshed and the way our day started right as soon as I opened my eyes made me feel I realize and admit that I indeed had a good rest. One reason was Marco’s good mood and the other was Gab's playfulness, which I came to understand a littl later that it was due to Marco making fun of him. It felt lke we were in a world without anything to worry about or any threat lurking at the corners. ‘If only….’If only life was always as bright as the sunrise today….But then again, I am grateful that even in the midst of a boiling storm we could find a moment and grab the chance to share a hearty laugh. We even had our light breakfast with smiles never fading our faces. Despite having Vincent dDiera with us in the house, his head was covered with a sack cloth so we were carefree to move around without the hassle of having to cover our faces with masks. And in order for us to feel comfortable discussing anything and everything, Gab covered our captive’s ears with a headset
Gab’s POVI watched Skye walk away from the truck I was driving. She said she would wave at me as a sign that I should go to her side. I stepped out of the vehicle to help Marco do the task of collecting the garbage since we were pretending to be but we were actually supposed to do the job the original workers should do so they won’t get into trouble if the neighborhood complains about their performance. It was an exclusive subdivision, and the residents here were not to be taken lightly. If we might get into trouble if they demand for an investigation and they get to connect the dots to point at us. I kept my eyes observing Skye’s direction and when I did see her raise a hand, I briskly walk to her side.“Yup?” I casually asked as I approached her with George Nahart not far from her spot. Skye raised a cup and gestured as if she was asking if I wanted a drink as well. “Yes, please. Sir, Can I have a drink, too?” I asked with my gaze directed at George Nahart. “Of course, of cours
George’s POV“I don’t know why I feel so bothered this morning,” I sighed softly as I told my dear Almira about how I was feeling while we were having breakfast. “What’s new?” Almira chuckled. I could not help laughing with her. “Yeah, right?” I agreed. Almira’s words weren’t surprising. Although they were said like it wasn’t anything new, her tone and voice remained sweet to my ears. Honestly, I am actually quite sentient about this and that on daily basis. I blame it on the nature of our world and lifestyles, but I could feel it was quite different this time. “What is it this time?” she asked again. “Did you have a strange dream or something?” I don’t know exactly if it was a dream or some sort of a funny feeling. “It felt like a dream, but I am not so sure if it was indeed a dream. I think we will find it very soon,” I inhaled deeply as I spoke. My words sounded strange to my own ears. I won’t be shocked if Almira finds them nonsense as well. “I was told to welcome and be ki
Almira’s POV I stepped out of the house with a tray of sliced fruits in a lunchbox and sandwiches wrapped in parchment paper. George and two of the garbage collectors were attentively listening to George, but I saw one of the guys with the same uniform as the collectors walking into the neighbors’ houses, picking the trash bags in front of their gates. I was almost to feel sorry for him as it seemed like the other two guys were slacking off, but I saw the hardworking guy glance in our house’s direction, and it would have been impossible for him not to notice his colleagues idling around, yet the man would not bother. Maybe seeing George holding a pitcher and one of his colleagues holding a cup made him understand that his colleagues were asking for drinks. And maybe he wasn’t as thirsty as his comrades, so the guy kept working without expressing any signs of complaint. “Here, I hope you guys do not have any allergies to anything, but they are mainly flour, eggs, bacon, and lettu
Marco’s POVI chose not to join Gab and Skye when they spoke with George Nahart. Since we were supposed to collect the garbage and the two of them were already busy doing what we were there for, I decided to do the work we were pretending to be employed with as our disguise in being here. Aside from that, I am also afraid to hear whatever this man George Nahart was going to say. ‘I don’t like him. I actually hate him!’ The things I was told about this man were weighing so heavy in my heart because I heard some of them directly from my foster mom and dad, Regina and Brandon. ‘I do not know how to change my thoughts about him and anything he would say not to my liking, but I do not want to disappoint Skye either. Skye had a point when she said she was, after gathering information and only after then will she decide which ones to believe in and which ones to ignore.’I could see them speaking to the old man, who was now holding a pitcher, and a woman was standing next to him. I suppo
Skye’s POV“Alfonso!?” I felt like lightning struck me all of a sudden. I have been in deep thought about something because I noticed Marco would react somehow weirdly whenever we get deeper into our interrogation. I couldn’t point out what he was reacting to exactly, but since he wasn’t willing to share his thoughts even when I had already told him that he could talk to me about whatever it was that had been bothering him ever since we started this investigation. I also asked Gab if he knew what had been bothering Marco for the past few days, but he said he did not know either. “I wish I also knew. I am also a bit confused since his mood would return to normal after every session of questioning.”These were Gab’s words when I asked him after meeting and interrogating three of our targets. And I agreed with Gab with his observations. I thought Marco was not pleased to hear that everyone we questioned was saying negative words about his foster mom and dad, Regina and Brandon— also m
Gab’s POV“Do you wanna lose your job?” I spoke with sternness to make my message appear even more convincing.I had to wake up the real garbage collectors when I pulled the truck over by the side of the road, but they were still dazed and had no idea what was going on. I had to spend a few minutes more than I expected pretending to scold them that I was their inspector and found them sleeping on duty. “What the hell are you doing sleeping behind your seats during working hours?!”They were still dazed, but when they heard my nagging voice, the two men in the truck struggled to move as they panicked and realized they were in a very narrow space. “What the hell?!” I heard one of them murmur. The other guys tried to explain, but I cut his words off.“Sorry, sir! I don’t know what happened! The last thing—” “I don’t want this happening ever again. I will not write this on my report this time, but only this time!” I blocked his words and pretend I was not interested. Then I exited th
