Regan’s POV
Needless to say, after that mind blowing kiss with Jasmine in my study, it became absolutely impossible to stop thinking about that. Rage was being an absolute pain by replaying the kiss in our head almost non stop. I couldn’t stop thinking about her. Other than that, I couldn’t stop thinking about how just one kiss had rendered me completely obsessed. Unsurprisingly, Luke had noticed it when we had been training. Or when we had attempted to train I supposed since he threw me around like a rag doll. Like I said, Rage made it completely impossible to focus on anything. It made me happy to know that Lena had accepted our relationship. Frankly, I wasn’t as unconcerned about wanting her approval as I behaved. Lena was important to me. She was family. And having her oppose to our relationship would have made me quite unhappy. As it stood, I was glad to know she was accepting of it. Especially after seeing how happy it made Jasmine. I had seen her at breakfast that morning. As soon as she had caught sight of me, she turned a lovely shade of red and looked away. I noticed Lena lean closer to whisper something in her ear that caused both girls to giggle. Now all we had to do was formally tell Nana. And since she had been brave enough to tell Lena alone, I figured it was only fair that I saved her the worry and just told Nana by myself. I knew the two places to find Nana after the midday meal were either at the healing building or in her garden just outside the woods. Her garden was not so far from the building so I simply passed by the building and tracked her scent until it led me to her garden. There, she was crouched down, tending to some herbs. I approached her quietly from behind, knowing that no matter how quiet I tried to be, she would always be able to tell. Nana was no ordinary werewolf. “It has been a while since you have come here to seek me out”, she said, not turning or moving from her position. “Whatever you have to tell me must be quite important to have you come all the way over here”, she said. “It is”, I agreed, coming to a stop a small distance away from her. “Well, you might as well be of help while you seek mine”, she said, rising to her feet and turning to face me. Her eyes studied my face briefly before she lifted a hand and pointed at a fallen tree trunk a short distance away. “Carry that and follow me”, she instructed, and turned to lead the way into the woods. I obeyed, making my way over to the fallen trunk and picking it up before carrying it after her as she led the way. We walked for a short while before approaching a small clearing. “Put it over there”, she instructed, pointing towards a spot under a large tree. I did as I was told and put down the trunk and she made her way over and sat. Smiling at her antics, I simply copied her actions and sat down as well. “Well , out with it”, she said. “What was so important that you had to come over to my garden to find me?” She asked. I took a breath, wondering why I was suddenly feeling worried. “I have feelings for Jasmine”, I said directly, knowing it was no use beating about the bush where Nana was concerned. “I am aware”, she said. “Anyone with eyes can see that”. She waited as I tried to find the right words to describe exactly what I want. “I want to know”, I began. “If you approve”. She looked at me for a moment. “Correct me if I’m wrong”, she said. “But it sounds to me like you are seeking my approval over your relationship with Jasmine”. “That is because I am”, I said honestly. She shifted so she was facing me. “Regan, you are the Alpha of the Midnight Wolves pack”, she said. “You do not need the permission or approval of anyone to do whatever you want”, she told me. I nodded my head. “I know that”, I said. “But I want your approval all the same”. She looked away before looking back at me again. “Does my approval truly matter?” She asked finally. I nodded again. “It does”, I said. “As much as I hate to admit it, it matters the most”, I confessed. A slow smile spread across her face before it faded again. “You have it”, she announced. “Although I believe there is something you should know”. Knowing Nana, if she had something to say, it was something very much worth hearing. I turned to her. “What is it?” I asked. She hesitated. “Before I tell you”, she said. “I must know exactly how you feel about her”. I turned away at that. “I honestly can’t put it all into words, Nana”, I said truthfully. “I cannot stop thinking about her and wanting to see her and touch her and hold her and just make sure she’s safe”, I confessed. “It actually scares me since I have not known her for too long and o already feel this way about her.”, I said and paused, hesitating on what next I wanted to say. “To be completely honest, I have been having thoughts of marking her and making her my mate”, I said. Silence greeted my confession and I finally turned to look at her to see a smile on her lips. She brought up a hand to cup my jaw. “That is good to know, my dear”, she said, her eyes beginning to glisten. “You do not know how long I have prayed to the Moon Goddess for a second chance mate for you. And I am glad it is our Jasmine she has chosen for you”. I smiled at that, relieved to see her acceptance. Her smile slowly faded from her face and she dropped her hand from my cheek back to the other on her lap. “But you should know that it would not be easy”, she said. “What do you mean?” I asked, feeling apprehensive at her tone. She took in a breath and let it out. “When Jasmine first came here”, she began. “There was something about her. Yes, it was clear to see that she had been abused but that was not what awoke my curiosity”, she said. “Have you ever seen her back?” She suddenly asked me out of nowhere. I frowned, trying to recall and wondering what her back had to do with anything. Finally, I shook my head. “No”, I answered. “I have not”. She nodded, then continued. “There are markings on her back”, she said. “At first I thought they were scars until she had told Lena that they were her birth marks, that she was born with them. But there was something familiar about those markings. It was like I had seen them before. So I went back to my old book of spells and I found one marking in particular that was all too familiar”, she disclosed before turning to look directly at me. “I have told no one about this, but you should know if you wish to be mated with her. You might have to protect and defend her someday”, she said. “What did you find out?” I asked, eager and impatient to find out. “One of the markings I saw on her back was a containment spell”, she finally disclosed. “A containment spell?” I repeated in confusion. “What does that mean?” “It means”, she said. “A spell that is placed on someone to restrain or imprison something in them”, she explained. I looked away, confused about why Jasmine would need a so called confinement spell. “But it suddenly made sense”, she continued, bringing my eyes back to her. “It explained why she doesn’t have a wolf”, she said. I frowned again. “I do not understand”, I confessed. She leaned closer as if to tell me a secret. “If a containment spell was placed on Jasmine when she was a pup, it would explain why she has never had access to her wolf”, she explained. “Jasmine refers to those markings as her birthmark which means she was born with them. While I may not know of the others or what they might mean, I am almost certain that Jasmine was not born with the mark of a containment spell on her. It must have been placed on her sometime after she was born”, she said. “What I wonder, however, is why whoever placed it on her wouldn’t want her to have access to her wolf side”, she said, wondering aloud. It made me think as well. If what Nana was saying was true, and I had never had a reason to doubt her, someone had cast a spell on Jasmine to ensure she could not transform into her wolf. But why? Why would someone wish to do that to her? I decided to ask Nana instead of wondering. “But why would anyone wish to do that to her?” I asked. “I have thought about that as well, my dear”, she said. “Several possibilities have floated through my mind but I don’t know which one to believe”, she confessed. “Jasmine had shared with us that her parents had been killed while she was a young pup so those markings, which I suppose already included the containment spell, had already been there before her parents had died. It makes me almost believe that her parents had put the containment spell on her”, she said. “But why?” I asked, getting frustrated. “I’m afraid we may never know their reasons”, Nana said. “But if I, as a mother, had to place a containment spell upon my child, I would have only one reason for doing so”. “And what reason would that be?” She looked me right in the eye as she replied. “To protect her”, she said firmly. “I believe her parents were trying to protect her from something or someone, I’m afraid I do not know which”, she said. The revelation didactic sit right with me. The thought that someone wanted to harm Jasmine to the extent that it had caused her parents to put a spell on her to protect her did not sit well with me. Rage was already growling at the thought of someone harming her and I completely agreed with his reaction. We would not hesitate to destroy anything and anyone that tried to harm her. What frustrated me more was that I had had no idea or clue as to what had happened to her. I didn’t even know that her parents had been killed, I had simply thought she had been abandoned. To think that I was willing to kill for her when I never even bothered knowing anything about her did not sound right. But if I was being honest, I hadn’t bothered to find out anything about her past because I simply didn’t care about her past. The only thing I cared about was that she was now with us and safe. But now discovering that I would have to know about her past in order to protect her was something I had never thought of. I was not going to ask her anything until she was willing to tell me. I was grateful that Nana had cared enough about her to look into her birthmarks and even their meaning. It confirmed her acceptance and affection for Jasmine. “I have already sent word to an old friend of mine in the West”, Nana informed me. “It will take a long time before I get a response. But until then, we will protect her with everything we have”, she promised. “After all”, her face suddenly broke into a teasing smile. “She is going to be our Luna”, she finished. A smile broke across my face as well, and probably for the first time in a really long time, I leaned across to place a kiss on her head. “I forever bless the day the Moon Goddess brought you into my life”, I said, though truthfully yet something rare as well. As I pulled away, I caught her blink back tears. Instead of saying anything, she simply took my arm and rose to her feet, pulling me to do the same, and linked her arm through mine as she led us back the way we had come.Jasmine’s POV.After Regan had told Nana about our relationship, he made no effort to hide it any longer . I knew for a fact that probably everyone in our pack already knew or at least suspected that I was the Alpha’s woman. Both man and wolf seemed totally alike in one regard. They were both incredibly clingy. Having Lena on my side was a great blessing I could not stop being thankful for. She constantly reassured me and stayed by my side each time we were out. I had taught that the whole of Regan’s pack had accepted me. I thought wrong. Though almost everyone was pleasant to me, however, when Regan started to openly show his affection towards me, it seemed like not everyone was happy with the idea of their Powerful Alpha with a wolf less she-wolf. The fact I had no wolf was no secret in the pack. However, it seemed that even though they didn’t care about my wolf less state, it meant something entirely different from when it was in regards to their Alpha. Len
Regan’s POV. It was a little humiliating to know that I might have to get Lena’s ‘permission’ in the future in other to spend time with her dearest friend. It was clear to see that Lena enjoyed having me ask for her permission. Lena was like my little sister. And I suddenly felt like I was in a relationship with my little sister’s dearest friend. We walked peacefully around the familiar environment of the pack, knowing that we would barely come across anyone else since almost everyone was at the pack house for the evening meal. Even though it was dark out, the full Moon gave a soft glow of light to illuminate out path and the cool breeze simply meant I could hold her closer. I led her towards the edge of the pack, just outside the woods, knowing that no one, no matter how much they tried, would overhear whatever conversation we were about to have. “Will tell me something about yourself now?” I asked, after a while. She looked up at me with a beautiful smile.
Jasmine’s POV I was unable to keep to my word to meet up with Lena later that night. After crying my eyes out in Regan’s arms, I had fallen asleep in his arms and he had been the one to carry me to my room and tuck me into bed. That night, I had a dream. I dreamt about my parents again. It was the same dream as always. The one where both my parents died. But this time, something about the dream was different. Everything else was the same, but when it had gotten to the part where my mother placed me on my father’s wolf, she had whispered words in a strange language and had run her hand over my back where my birthmark was. After my father’s wolf had taken off with me on his back and I looked back to watch my mother, something I had always wondered about suddenly stood out to me. She had not shifted into her wolf. How had she remained in her human form and fought off all those wolves for as long as she had, all alone? Not for the first time, as I woke up from the
Jasmine’s POV If I had thought the news that the Alpha of the Midnight Wolves pack wanted to make me his mate would put an end to the looks of disapproval from some members of his pack, I was wrong. Instead, after the public display Regan had made after I had given him the news of my acceptance, the looks of disapproval had grown. I received glares wherever I went. And despite the fact that some of the pack members had openly accepted, even going as far as coming to congratulate me, it didn’t reduce the heat from the glares I could constantly feel directed at me whence I walked into a room. But I had Lena who was determined to shoot daggers at everyone who so much as looked at me in any way she didn’t like. Knowing I had her undeniable support was a big help. Especially since I had decided to quit being sorry for myself or seeing myself as weak. Even though it wasn’t easy, I walked with my back straight and head held high, not willing to give them the satisfaction of ma
Regan’s POV Even though I did not like the idea of Jasmine training with anyone other than me, I had to admit that if there was anyone else I would ever allow train my future mate on the art of defense, then it was Luke. Her training had begun immediately. Lena was insistent that Jasmine started as soon as possible since we did not know how long it would take for her to learn combat in her human form. Luke came up with the idea of training her in secret, and since it was obvious how much she loved the sanctuary, we decided that it would be the perfect place for her to train. Luke complained and mumbled about having more work to do now that he would have to train my future mate that I had been left with no other choice than to reduce his previous work load. He had been so grateful that he had immediately decided to take a ‘much needed nap’ right there in the sanctuary and proceeded to resume his usual position. Luke had also insisted to have their training sessions at daw
Jasmine’s POV Lena had told me all about the coming of age ceremony. It was supposedly the night where the young pack members shifted for the first time. I had seen Luke training them so that they could endure the pain from shifting for the first time. Surprisingly, I had seen Regan as well. Even though Regan was much loved by his pack, there had always seemed like there was a distance he put between them and himself. He hardly ever related with any other pack members other than his family, Mari and his Gamma. Everyone else was dealt with from arm’s length. So it was a great surprise indeed to see him with a particular young werewolf time and time again. Whenever I passed by the field, I always caught sight of him and the young one, training. What surprised me other than the fact that he was personally training that particular young werewolf away from the rest of his friends and mates, was how much Regan smiled around the young one. I had seen him sever
Regan’s POV As Jasmine had said, I knew Emry would need me for his first shift. And since it was the day of the full moon, it meant that the ceremony would hold that night. I hadn’t seen him all day. Which was unusual since the pup barely ever left my side ever since we began our trainings. I had just finished my work for the day and was making my way over to the healing house, where I was sure Jasmine would be, when the thought of him suddenly came to mind. I had missed her all day and wanted nothing more than to see her, take her into my arms and bury my face into her neck to inhale her addicting scent. But I had not seen Emry all day and that worried me. So rather than go to find my future mate and satisfy my longing, I turned around instead to find the pup. I caught his scent easily and began to track it. It led me towards the woods not to far from the pack’s farm lands and I followed it to the outskirts of the pack, where the stream was, and finally to one of th
Jasmine’s POV While the ceremony took place, I was with Nana, Lena and a few other she-wolves helping set up places for the newly shifted werewolves for when they returned from their first hunt. Since I was indoors during the ceremony, something I knew for certain was planned by Regan to keep me out of any possible harm’s way, I watched the proceedings from one of the widows of the pack house not too far away. I had gone to the stream that morning with Lena to take a cool bath after my morning session with Luke. And even though I was sore all over, it was nothing compared to the pain I had experienced when I had started. It was now a feeling I welcomed in fact. I handed over the pile of black and red robes that the newly shifted werewolves were to change into when they returned from the hunt to one of the young she-wolves working with us. Her brother was one of the newly shifted werewolves and she had been noticeably anxious about his return. “It will all be fine, Amy”
Jasmine’s POV I and Lena had finally spoken. We talked late into the night and eventually fell asleep around the late hours of the morning. Regan had not returned and I knew it was because he knew that Lena and I needed each other. It was another reason why I loved him. He was very thoughtful and always put my needs before his. When Lena and I woke up the next morning, we held each other for a while before leaving the bed to go about our daily routines. Lena returned to her room and I washed us before Regan returned. When he finally did, he knocked once in the door to let me know he was coming in before pushing the door open and entering into our room. I took one look at his face and knew that something had happened. “What has happened?” I asked, making my way over to him and taking his hand. He simply shook his head, a sad look on his face that worried me. I pulled him over to the bed and gently pushed him to sit, before taking my place beside him. “Please,
Regan’s POV I spent the night in my study after leaving Lena and Jasmine in my room together. It was clear to see that what they both needed at the moment was each other so I let them be. When I went up later to check on them, I could hear them talking quietly from where I stood outside the room and figured I would just let Lena spend the night with my mate. After all, she had been the one to save her life. Ever since she had woken up from her unconsciousness at the healing house, I had found it impossible to ask her what had happened. Partly because I could clearly see that she did not wish to speak to me about it. That was why I was glad she had Lena. That they both had each other in fact. The second reason I had not asked was because a part of me did not want to know just how deeply I had failed her since I knew that it had been my fault she had gone to the stream in the first place. I had thrown a ridiculously jealous fit simply because she had teased me. She h
Jasmine’s POV The darkness that surrounded me was familiar. I knew for certain that I had, not for the first nor second time, passed out once again. However, this time was different. As I gained consciousness, the first thing I noticed was the pain in my head. It wasn’t so bad that it was unbearable, but it was quite easy to notice. I tried to observe if I could feel pain anywhere else on my body but other than the ache in my head, I felt completely fine. Slowly, I opened my eyes, blinking at the brightness from the windows that illuminated the room I laid in. I was in a strange room, although something about the room looked familiar. Slowly, I moved my head to the side to see that the room was indeed familiar. I was in one of the rooms in the healing house. I looked towards my other side to see my mate still asleep, holding onto my hand with both of his. A smile pulled at my lips as I watched his handsome face while he slept. It was my first time seeing hi
Regan’s POV I could hardly recall the times in my life that I felt fear. The one that stood out the most was the terrible memory I shared alongside my pack on the day of the massacre when I was younger. Ever since then, I could barely recall a time when I felt afraid. After all, I was Alpha. But the second I had heard Lena’s shaky voice mind link me and simply caught the words ‘Jasmine’ and ‘attacked’ in the same sentence, I had once again felt the icy hands of fear claw down my spine as they had only done once before. I had been on a run with Rage and had just settled down under the tree in his sanctuary when Lena had mind linked me. Since I was still in my wolf form, I ran as fast as could towards the pack house. As soon as I approached the clearing just outside the woods, I saw Luke already standing there with a small pile of clothes in his hands. He said nothing, his face completely devoid of emotion. Something I knew for certain did whenever he was worried. De
Jasmine’s POV When I woke up from my exhausted sleep, it was already dark outside. I felt sated and spent. Completely and utterly satisfied and unable to move due to how comfortable and exhausted I was. I turned to the other side of the bed to find it empty once again. Once again, I had woken up alone in our bed. However, I was too tired to think deeper on what that could mean. Regan had explored every inch and dip of my body and had brought me to heights I had never known existed time and time again. I had lost count of how many times I had cried out his name as I ascended new heights. I had never imagined that anything would have felt like that. And if that had felt incredible, I wondered what fully mating with him would be like. I felt a blush heat my cheeks as the memory of earlier in the day flooded through my mind. Before I could think on it further, I heard the door to our room crack open to reveal my mate. He came in with a tray filled with food and
Regan’s POV I knew exactly what she was doing. And I only knew because I knew who exactly would advise her to act like that. Jasmine had started to avoid me. And rightly so. I knew I had not behaved too well. But I didn’t deserve to be avoided and ignored. The reason I knew the game she was playing was because I knew the person who invented it. Nana. And since Lena was quite similar to Nana In almost every way, I could only conclude that she had been the one to insist my mate start treating me in the manner she was. But her avoiding me made me realize the error of my ways. I had always told Lena to never allow a mate treat her in an undeserving or disrespectful manner. I had taught her to know her worth and not stand to receive anything less. So if Lena was advising my mate to act in that manner, it simple meant that she believed I had not treated my mate as well as I ought to have, and it made me feel guilty, sad and ashamed. I should have just explained to h
Jasmine’s POV I woke up alone in bed the next morning. The space where my mate once occupied was now empty. I knew for certain that something was wrong. My mate was keeping something from me. I looked around at the room I was in. I had never been in his room before and I took a deep breath to inhale the masculine scent that was all him. The room was masculine and practical with only the essentials needed. It would have been completely masculine if it wasn’t for the few of my things that now occupied a space in the room. I stood up from the bed to further inspect the room. Noticing the designs and furnitures in the large space. It was three times the size of my own room. Or former room rather. I went to what looked to be the wash room, realizing that I was right when I pushed the door to the space open. Seeing some of my things already there, I decided to wash up and make my way to the Lena’s room as I did each day. I knocked once on her door before pushi
Regan’s POV The mating ceremony passed by in a blur. I could barely pay attention to anything else that happened and I honestly did not care. My entire being was simply ensnared by the beauty that was my mate. She was beautiful. More beautiful than I had ever seen her before and Rage howled with pride that she was now ours. The thought of someone else having Jasmine as their mate made me want to go on a rampage. She had on her ceremonial dress and her hair was styled perfectly. She was perfection and I could barely take my eyes off her. “You will burn a hole through her if you keep staring at her like that”, Luke said from where he was seated to my left. The truth was, I could not help it. “Be quiet”, I told him, absent minded as I continued to stare at her. “If I had known you would behave like this, I would have helped her escape”, I heard him say and whipped my head around so fast that he moved away. “What did you say?” I asked, Rage already growling in
Regan’s POV It was the day of my mating ceremony and I had been informed that Luke had disappeared with my mate to be for a while. Of course I knew it was due to her training sessions but other than Nana and Lena, no one else had any knowledge about that. I had noticed that Jasmine and Luke had grown closer. It was clear as day to see. Luke had even gone as far as calling her by a new name he had coined from her name. I had known him all his life and had yet to get the same treatment. It caused Rage to growl in jealousy each time we heard him call her ‘Jazzie’. Partly because we had not thought to do something like that, but also because it showed just how close they had become. However, seeing the smile on Jasmine’s face each time Luke called her that was enough to make me endure the annoyance and jealousy it brought. I was anxious for some reason. One reason if I was being honest. And that reason was simple. ‘What if Jasmine changed her mind?’ That though
