“Your twin’s friend, Carleigh, used to be my friend too,” Iwatani began. We were in their backyard overlooking passing cars. We were both drinking coffee after dinner.

I listened quietly to his story. As I said, I would let him explain his true feelings. If he was angry with me, I needed to accept it.

“We met because we used to go to the same gym in Canada. When my father was still alive, he always took me there because the teaching was better than here. Also, your family’s main business was there, so I had to learn it too.”

“So, you were friends since you were young,” I said, “but why didn’t I know you? I often went to the gym with her and Chanel.”

He took a sip of his coffee before speaking. “I used to see you with Carleigh, but every time you arrived, I was leaving. Unlike you, who could go to the gym any time, I had a specific schedule. It just so happened that you and Chanel were always late, so you didn’t know me.”

I chuckled. “Yes, Carleigh often goes to the gym early.
