I cried myself to sleep that night. I didn't even eat. I had lost my every will to do anything. My body felt numb by the time I woke up. I stared at the sun rays sneaking into my room through the half opened window. My life was as shiny and blinding as the sun but now, an eclipse happened and I'm surrounded by total darkness. I didn't know where I want to go from here. I was more or less in a ditch.
My right hand instinctively went to my stomach and gave it a small rub. A smile formed on my lips as the thought of carrying a tiny human being came to my mind. I was finally going to be a mother after five years. "I will protect you, my baby, from everybody that has hurt your mommy." I whispered as I gazed at my stomach. Since I wasn't the luna anymore, I wanted to just stay at home and have some 'me' time but I had to leave my toxic environment. It wasn't good for my health. I had a quick bath and rushed downstairs to prepare something to eat. I was starving to death. "What are you doing here by this time?" I heard Liam's voice. My heart skipped because I wasn't expecting him to be around late this morning. I ignored him and continued cooking my rice and beef stew. I was dicing my carrot when he grabbed my hand, making me drop the knife. "What is your problem, Liam?" I yelled and snatched my hand from his own. "Why are you not at the office by this time? We were supposed to have an appointment with our potential clients. The growth of this company is important to me." He yelled back. "Last I checked, I am no longer your wife. You gave me divorce papers and I signed it. Since it's so important to you, why don't you run it yourself? Stay away from me, Liam." I warned curtly and continued with my work. All these years, I had been working for Liam and barely had enough time for myself. He never cared if I was okay or not. All he cared about was an heir and his company. "Cora! Be reasonable for once!" He thundered but I pointed the knife at him. "Never should my name be heard from your mouth again. Never ever, got that? Go and make your pregnant luna the representative of your company and stop pestering my life." I cautioned. After glaring daggers at me, he finally let me be. I heaved a sigh of relief on his retrieval. I had never fought with Liam before. He was always so sweet and gentle but now, all I saw was a cheat whom I would never forgive. Even though I was to forgive him, it would never be the same again. I finished cooking the food and dished out some to eat. I moved it rest into a larger plate and kept it beside me. I was done being the house girl for anybody. While eating my meal in relish, the pregnant whore appeared in the kitchen. With the roll of her eyes, she walked over the counter and opened the pots. "Are you that bitter that you couldn't remain some for a pregnant woman? You really are pathetic." She scoffed and walked over to me. I ignored her stupidity and continued eating my food while scrolling through social media. "Can you hear me or are you now dumb?" I could see her expression changing gradually as I snobbed her. "Oh my, did you say something? Sorry, I thought I was the only one here." I smirked and took another spoonful of my food while looking slyly at her. "Where's my portion?" She asked, deadpan. "Do I look like your slave? You have hands, my dear. But what is that?" I inclined my ear closer to her. "You can't cook?" I gasped as retreated. "Poor thing. Why don't you tell your almighty alpha or his mother to come cook for you? Why should you, the pregnant one, slave around?" I chuckled hysterically as she stormed away. "Foolish thing." I cursed under my breath. At night, I found myself in a bar. I didn't plan on drinking anything strong because of my baby but I just wanted to do the things I couldn't do while I was still married. Thinking back, I had never really been single. I met Liam at the age of seventeen and we've kicking it ever since. I didn't enjoy my teenage days and Liam was my first love. We dated for a year and decided to tie the knot. Yeah, foolish decision. I was only after his fine face and beautifully built body that I forgot to check his personality. I need to forgive myself for that mistake before I can move on. I chose a bar that was in another pack, about one hour thirty minutes drive. I didn't want to be recognized anywhere. Not that I planned on misbehaving or playing around. I mean, I had the liberty to but I still have respect for myself. I watched the strippers dance with the pole, satisfying the horny customers that gawked at them. How can you spend money to watch a lady you cannot touch unless you pay a bigger sum? People were just weird and didn't know what to do with money. I picked up my phone as I stared at the house which I had bought. Yes, I planned on leaving the pack entirely. I had no business whatsoever with Liam or with his pack members. "Hello, pretty." A deep voice distracted me. I had rented out the entire lounge just so I could be alone. It meant these people breached their policy and I was sure going to get a refund. "Who are you? And what are you doing here?" I asked sternly. "I just saw you sitting here alone and I decided to keep you company." He chuckled. He was quite an old man with rumpled skin. "Did I ever mention to you or anyone that I needed company?" I picked up my bag. "Enjoy your company." I eyed him maliciously and stormed off. I got back into my car and began riding home. I was disgusted by the mere fact that he approached me. I think I threw up in my stomach. I got back home very late and needed to get some water. Because I was angry, I slammed the door of the fridge. As I turned to leave, I mistakenly bumped into Zaria who held a glass cup. The cup fell from her hand and broke into many pieces. "Ahhh!!" She screamed. "Are you okay?" I tried to support her but she pushed my hand away. "Don't touch me with your filthy hands!" She yelped in pain as she slowly approached the ground. "What's going on?" Liam's mother inquired. She looked between the two of us for a while before helping Zaria. She probably got the wrong message. Liam appeared from nowhere and carried her in bridal style. It reminded me of how he lifted me every morning before going out. I was pained to the bone. "You can do anything, Cora but what I will not tolerate is you hurting my child." He warned and turned, leaving with the two witches. I saw Zaria sticking out her tongue at me and smiling victoriously while wrapping her arms around his neck. All that yelping was just an act. I was burning inside and wanted to attack her for framing me but I felt sharp pains in my leg when I tried to move. Those shards had cut me in several places. But the pain I felt in my heart was more than those cuts. After that incident, I made sure to stay away from Zaria and her allies. I just wanted to be able to settle everything before I travel out of the country. I needed my child to never see her ugly face ever in his or her life. It's been three weeks but there wasn't any noticeable change in my body. Although frantically, I do go for scans to check if my baby is healthy. And it was always a positive result. My baby was here to stay. The baby represented a light in my dark world. I wouldn't allow anybody to quench that light. "Your dress looks so nice, luna Cora." Amy blushed as she stared at my perfectly shaped gown. I was there for my first fitting because of the upcoming Tengen Awards. It was a gathering of elites from different parts of the country where the best of the best are chosen and this year, I was invited. Well, Liam too was invited. Kill joy. But I was glad we weren't going there together. We were at the liberty of bringing someone to the party."You look stunning, my lady.
Cora I had never felt this hurt before. I knew it was only a matter of time before he would raise his hands on me but I didn't expect it to be sooner. The smile I saw on Zaria's face made me furious and I wanted to attack her but security came and dragged me outside. I felt humiliated. I let my guard down and let those idiots ruin my reputation. Now, I never want to show my face at the Tengen Awards again. "The alpha said you shouldn't be let into the house." The guards said the moment I approached the gates. "Are you okay? If you want to keep your jobs, let me through." I tried to force myself through but they blocked me. "I said, let me through!" In the process of struggling, one of them pushed me back so hard that I fell to the ground. I hissed in pain as I felt I had strained my waist. But that was the least of my problems. I just hoped my child was safe. My hands went to my small stomach immediately."I'm sorry, luna, but we have a duty to our alpha." He said with pleading ey
Cora "Do you feel pain anywhere?" She asked me in a frantic tone. At first, I couldn't speak. "Maybe we need to take you to the hospital after all." That was when I snapped back to reality. "I'm fine, I'm fine." I quickly said. I didn't want to go to any hospital. It would bring back the memories that I was trying to bury. The wounds still felt fresh and I didn't know when I started crying. "Oh dear," I heard her walking close to me. The space beside me sank a bit and I felt a hand running across my shoulders. "Whatever the problem is, it will be alright." Her voice was soothing to the soul and in no time, I found myself wiping my tears. "Thank you very much for your generosity. I don't know where I would have been without you." I sniffled lightly as I thanked her. "Might I ask, what were you doing by that time? Didn't you know it was dangerous to be out there alone?" My face fell to the ground. "It's a long story." I simply replied. I didn't want to talk about it e
Cora My journey into my mother's business world wasn't an easy one because she had lots of rivals. I wondered how she wasn't dead with the number of enemies she had, even the ones working under her and with her. I was in a conference room with my mother and her partners when I began to feel some pains around my lower abdomen. I thought it was just the normal pain until it became harder the second time. I tried to hide the discomfort I felt but unfortunately, my mother had caught sight of me. "Are you okay, dear?" She asked. My breathing seized because of the number of eyes that turned to me. It made me quite nervous but as soon as I opened my mouth to speak, another contraction hit me. This time, it was followed by a small sound. I held my stomach and stood up. It was then it dawned on me that the baby was coming. My mother halted the meeting and made sure I was rushed to the hospital while she continued with the meeting. I had a feeling I was going into labour that morning but I
P/S: I'd be using the 3rd POV from this chapter. It helps me explain better than 1st POV. Sorry for the inconvenience. His fingers strummed the wooden table as he stared at the newspaper. His eyes glistened with anger but only for a moment before he faced his nephew, Liam."She's dead. Jane Moore." He narrowed his eyes as those words left his mouth. His jaw ticked as he read about Jane's mysterious heir. "So it seems, uncle Dante," Liam replied quite solemnly and sighed. "Do you know who succeeded her?" Dante asked as he kept looking at the masked woman. Her nose and mouth were covered, leaving only her eyes. He was pissed off about the whole situation. Jane and Dante had been enemies for quite a while because they were each after the same company. Gadget Co was a tech company whose popularity was over the moon. Dante wanted the company to open a branch in his departmental store, but so did Jane before she died. It's been three years but they were still fighting. "How am I just f
Time seemed to have stopped in the wide room occupied by several shelves of books. Seated on his couch with a filled wine glass in his left hand and a cigarette on his right, Dante stared at Javan who had presented him with nothing. "If not that you're my best friend, I would have ordered for your execution." Dante grouched and drew out smoke from the stick. Javan irked his face while touching his neck. "Two weeks, Javan, two weeks is more than enough to look for one insignificant, arrogant woman.""I'm not the only one who looked into it. I had to involve others because I was quite shocked when I couldn't find anything on her." He explained and released a breath when Dante finally nodded."I trust you're doing all you can to find her. She committed a grave crime and she needs to pay for it." He took the cigarette out on the ashtray before his eyes darted to the envelope that was sent in by the most wanted company, Gadget Co. "Aren't you going to open it?" Javan questioned with an
Cora "You don't know how much my blood boils whenever I oversee such a case. Did you know this guy has been hitting her for years and threatened to kill her if she ever mentioned it to anyone?" "Yes, you mentioned that earlier." Flora rolled her eyes she served me a bottle of cold water. I chugged down a large quantity and dropped the can roughly. "Careful, Cora. You might actually hurt the can." She snatched the can from me and kept it far away. "Whatever. I don't think you understand my point." I groaned and covered my face with my palms. "I understand you perfectly Cora. You hate cheating men and they irritate you. But then again, there's nothing you can actually do about it. That's the kind of world we live in. It will keep happening again and again." "Well, I'm fine with it as long as it doesn't happen to me." "Men are very unpredictable. I know that for a fact." She folded her hands and faced me with a deadpan expression. "What if your husband cheats on you?" She asked m
Cora Excitement coursed through my veins as I stared at the positive test result. Joy washed over me and for a moment, I forgot about my pain. I wanted to let Liam know that if he only had been patient, he would have gotten what he wanted. "Thank you, Doctor Carol. Thank you." I walked over and embraced her lightly. "You deserve this gift, Luna." She replied. After bidding her farewell, I took a cab back to the pack house. The few staff outside greeted me warmly and with joy in my heart, I replied to them kindly. I wanted to share the news with Flora. She had been the one who had always given me hope. She was like a source of light but somehow, I decided to hide it from everybody. I wanted to confirm it myself first before letting anybody know. I've had several miscarriages in my first year of marriage and I wanted to make sure this baby will survive before giving myself hope. I walked through the door only to meet the two people I didn't want to see. My mother-in-law and Zaria.
