Cora
Excitement coursed through my veins as I stared at the positive test result. Joy washed over me and for a moment, I forgot about my pain. I wanted to let Liam know that if he only had been patient, he would have gotten what he wanted. "Thank you, Doctor Carol. Thank you." I walked over and embraced her lightly. "You deserve this gift, Luna." She replied. After bidding her farewell, I took a cab back to the pack house. The few staff outside greeted me warmly and with joy in my heart, I replied to them kindly. I wanted to share the news with Flora. She had been the one who had always given me hope. She was like a source of light but somehow, I decided to hide it from everybody. I wanted to confirm it myself first before letting anybody know. I've had several miscarriages in my first year of marriage and I wanted to make sure this baby will survive before giving myself hope. I walked through the door only to meet the two people I didn't want to see. My mother-in-law and Zaria. Liam shamelessly brought her to our home. How low could he go? I got to my room in other to freshen up and carry out the test. They each came out positive. My happiness knew no bounds. I decided to tell Liam. Maybe he would chase that silly girl out of my house. I opened my drawer to get something but I met a brown envelope. I didn't remember putting anything there. Curiously, I opened the envelope and brought out the papers. My eyes widened at the heading. "Divorce papers?" How could he? Was he seriously leaving me for a crook like Zaria? I felt like barging into his room and ranting but I kept my calm. My heart was heavy but I didn't cry. Well, I tried my best not to. I went down to the kitchen to get water to calm my nerves before confronting Liam. Zaria was still with Liam's mother. They were happily chatting and laughing. I wished I was the one in that position. When I first got married to Liam, I did everything I could to please his mother. It was working at first because she liked me but as the years went by, her love became cold. And she tolerated my presence because Liam wouldn't send me away. Thinking about it now, she probably knew about his cheating habits. What a bunch of disgrace. After shutting the door and announcing my presence with a loud bang, I headed for the stairs. I wanted to rest after a long day. "What? You can't even say a word of greeting? You're not only barren, you're also disrespectful. No wonder the blessings of the women didn't rest on you." Liam's mother tackled me. "I do not have time for this. Why can't you just let me be?" 1 questioned. Was it so wrong that I got married to her son? As the former luna of the pack, I expected her to rebuke her son and send Zaria away but I guess the need for a grandchild has blinded her. She couldn't see the kind of person Zaria was. "Mother, just leave her alone. I bet she's sulking from her incompetence to produce an heir. Good thing I stepped in." Zaria chuckled and rubbed her small stomach. "What is it that you want, Zaria? What? Aren't you tired of following me around and trying to make my life miserable? Get a life and stay out of other people's business. I think I threw up in my stomach just by looking at you." I spat bitterly. "You will not talk to your future luna that way." Liam's mother thundered and stood up. I walked toward her while laughing painfully. "Future luna? This one?" I mocked Zaria. "What does she know about running a pack? Someone with no proper dress sense. Someone who just wants to spend someone's hard-earned money. Someone who had lots of carryovers in school that she had to drop out. Someone who did drugs and was sleeping around. This dirty, stinking whore----" A hand landed on my face. After taking in the pain, I turned to see that it was my mother-in-law who had hit me. I touched my cheek as I felt something metallic on my tongue. "I'm not even sure that child belongs to the alpha." I added to spite them. "Is this the height your jealousy has taken you to?" I heard Liam's voice from behind me. He was descending the stairs in his usual outfit, a tight black shirt and grey baggy pants. His blonde hair was rough but it still made him look alluring. My heart paused for a second but I got back to my senses immediately. Liam was a good looking man and that was why I fell for him in the first place but seeing him now, I felt irritated. All the love I had for him was gone and all that was left between us was the mate bond. My child belonged to me alone. "What's wrong with you, Cora? Why are you being unreasonable?" He asked. "And being reasonable means I should accept the fact that you cheated on me and brought your mistress home? No, thank you. I will continue to be unreasonable." His countenance fell immediately. "This could work out, dear. We can still be happily married. You can still be luna of the pack and we can adopt children of our own. You're very good with your business craft and I need you. I really need you. But I also need a biological heir." His voice was low and soothing. But I wasn't a fool to give into it. It was then I realized how toxic he was. He didn't want to lose Zaria or me. He wanted Zaria for children and me to run his firms around the country. It was then all the dots began connecting. I was just a toy for him to use. He used love as a disguise to get me to marry him. I felt so used and dumped. I so badly wanted to tell him that he had lost me and my unborn child. But I held my tongue. They could keep playing their game for all I care. I was still going to leave him to enjoy his child. He could look for a business woman anywhere or he could make the failed Zaria his representative. As for me, I was done with all of them. Liam's soft expression changed into a serious and dangerous one when he saw that I wasn't buying into his idea. How did I not see how psycho this man was? How blinded by love was I? "You're very stupid, Cora. You will lose everything you've dedicated your whole life to. This marriage, our company." I picked up the pen on the table and signed the papers. "I already did." I flinged the papers at his face and stormed off.I cried myself to sleep that night. I didn't even eat. I had lost my every will to do anything. My body felt numb by the time I woke up. I stared at the sun rays sneaking into my room through the half opened window. My life was as shiny and blinding as the sun but now, an eclipse happened and I'm surrounded by total darkness. I didn't know where I want to go from here. I was more or less in a ditch. My right hand instinctively went to my stomach and gave it a small rub. A smile formed on my lips as the thought of carrying a tiny human being came to my mind. I was finally going to be a mother after five years. "I will protect you, my baby, from everybody that has hurt your mommy." I whispered as I gazed at my stomach. Since I wasn't the luna anymore, I wanted to just stay at home and have some 'me' time but I had to leave my toxic environment. It wasn't good for my health. I had a quick bath and rushed downstairs to prepare something to eat. I was starving to death. "What are you d
After that incident, I made sure to stay away from Zaria and her allies. I just wanted to be able to settle everything before I travel out of the country. I needed my child to never see her ugly face ever in his or her life. It's been three weeks but there wasn't any noticeable change in my body. Although frantically, I do go for scans to check if my baby is healthy. And it was always a positive result. My baby was here to stay. The baby represented a light in my dark world. I wouldn't allow anybody to quench that light. "Your dress looks so nice, luna Cora." Amy blushed as she stared at my perfectly shaped gown. I was there for my first fitting because of the upcoming Tengen Awards. It was a gathering of elites from different parts of the country where the best of the best are chosen and this year, I was invited. Well, Liam too was invited. Kill joy. But I was glad we weren't going there together. We were at the liberty of bringing someone to the party."You look stunning, my lady.
Cora I had never felt this hurt before. I knew it was only a matter of time before he would raise his hands on me but I didn't expect it to be sooner. The smile I saw on Zaria's face made me furious and I wanted to attack her but security came and dragged me outside. I felt humiliated. I let my guard down and let those idiots ruin my reputation. Now, I never want to show my face at the Tengen Awards again. "The alpha said you shouldn't be let into the house." The guards said the moment I approached the gates. "Are you okay? If you want to keep your jobs, let me through." I tried to force myself through but they blocked me. "I said, let me through!" In the process of struggling, one of them pushed me back so hard that I fell to the ground. I hissed in pain as I felt I had strained my waist. But that was the least of my problems. I just hoped my child was safe. My hands went to my small stomach immediately."I'm sorry, luna, but we have a duty to our alpha." He said with pleading ey
Cora "Do you feel pain anywhere?" She asked me in a frantic tone. At first, I couldn't speak. "Maybe we need to take you to the hospital after all." That was when I snapped back to reality. "I'm fine, I'm fine." I quickly said. I didn't want to go to any hospital. It would bring back the memories that I was trying to bury. The wounds still felt fresh and I didn't know when I started crying. "Oh dear," I heard her walking close to me. The space beside me sank a bit and I felt a hand running across my shoulders. "Whatever the problem is, it will be alright." Her voice was soothing to the soul and in no time, I found myself wiping my tears. "Thank you very much for your generosity. I don't know where I would have been without you." I sniffled lightly as I thanked her. "Might I ask, what were you doing by that time? Didn't you know it was dangerous to be out there alone?" My face fell to the ground. "It's a long story." I simply replied. I didn't want to talk about it e
Cora My journey into my mother's business world wasn't an easy one because she had lots of rivals. I wondered how she wasn't dead with the number of enemies she had, even the ones working under her and with her. I was in a conference room with my mother and her partners when I began to feel some pains around my lower abdomen. I thought it was just the normal pain until it became harder the second time. I tried to hide the discomfort I felt but unfortunately, my mother had caught sight of me. "Are you okay, dear?" She asked. My breathing seized because of the number of eyes that turned to me. It made me quite nervous but as soon as I opened my mouth to speak, another contraction hit me. This time, it was followed by a small sound. I held my stomach and stood up. It was then it dawned on me that the baby was coming. My mother halted the meeting and made sure I was rushed to the hospital while she continued with the meeting. I had a feeling I was going into labour that morning but I
P/S: I'd be using the 3rd POV from this chapter. It helps me explain better than 1st POV. Sorry for the inconvenience. His fingers strummed the wooden table as he stared at the newspaper. His eyes glistened with anger but only for a moment before he faced his nephew, Liam."She's dead. Jane Moore." He narrowed his eyes as those words left his mouth. His jaw ticked as he read about Jane's mysterious heir. "So it seems, uncle Dante," Liam replied quite solemnly and sighed. "Do you know who succeeded her?" Dante asked as he kept looking at the masked woman. Her nose and mouth were covered, leaving only her eyes. He was pissed off about the whole situation. Jane and Dante had been enemies for quite a while because they were each after the same company. Gadget Co was a tech company whose popularity was over the moon. Dante wanted the company to open a branch in his departmental store, but so did Jane before she died. It's been three years but they were still fighting. "How am I just f
Time seemed to have stopped in the wide room occupied by several shelves of books. Seated on his couch with a filled wine glass in his left hand and a cigarette on his right, Dante stared at Javan who had presented him with nothing. "If not that you're my best friend, I would have ordered for your execution." Dante grouched and drew out smoke from the stick. Javan irked his face while touching his neck. "Two weeks, Javan, two weeks is more than enough to look for one insignificant, arrogant woman.""I'm not the only one who looked into it. I had to involve others because I was quite shocked when I couldn't find anything on her." He explained and released a breath when Dante finally nodded."I trust you're doing all you can to find her. She committed a grave crime and she needs to pay for it." He took the cigarette out on the ashtray before his eyes darted to the envelope that was sent in by the most wanted company, Gadget Co. "Aren't you going to open it?" Javan questioned with an
Cora "You don't know how much my blood boils whenever I oversee such a case. Did you know this guy has been hitting her for years and threatened to kill her if she ever mentioned it to anyone?" "Yes, you mentioned that earlier." Flora rolled her eyes she served me a bottle of cold water. I chugged down a large quantity and dropped the can roughly. "Careful, Cora. You might actually hurt the can." She snatched the can from me and kept it far away. "Whatever. I don't think you understand my point." I groaned and covered my face with my palms. "I understand you perfectly Cora. You hate cheating men and they irritate you. But then again, there's nothing you can actually do about it. That's the kind of world we live in. It will keep happening again and again." "Well, I'm fine with it as long as it doesn't happen to me." "Men are very unpredictable. I know that for a fact." She folded her hands and faced me with a deadpan expression. "What if your husband cheats on you?" She asked m
