Kendrick's POV Ever since Audrey started to rule the pack, everyday had passed like a dream. I desperately wished that I could just wake up soon but it somehow also felt like I might never wake up from this dream. I was presently sitting on a chair in my room since I had managed to get a respite from Audrey as she was resting. “Hello husband,” I heard behind me as a hand started massaging my shoulder. "Jenni," I breathed out and took her hands off my shoulders. "So that girl finally ran out of ways to frustrate you, didn't she?" She asked and I suddenly remembered that it had been a while since I checked on Audrey. I hope she had not woken up, if she was sleeping in the first place, and looked for me only to not find me as that would be trouble. I quickly stood up from my seat to go and check up on Audrey. “Where are you going?” she asked. "I'm sorry, I have to see the queen right now,” I told her. “To see the queen?” she scoffed. “It's the way you respect that girl so much
Jake's POV I ended up spending only a few minutes knocking on Audrey's door without getting any answer before her guard came to send me away and I dejectedly left. Eventually, I found myself back in town just wandering around the pack trying to look for anything to lift my spirits. I saw a few exciting things but after sometime, decided to go back to the palace considering that Audrey could have come out of her chambers and might require my presence. I was about to enter the palace when I saw the werecouncil member who had tried approaching the Queen talking with another werecouncil member in front of the palace. How was he back here again? Was he hoping that Audrey would have woken up? I didn't know what to say to him if that was the case as Audrey usually kept her interactions with everyone to the lowest minimum and could refuse to see him even if she had come out of her chambers. From what I experienced while trying to have a word with her, I could deduce that she probably wou
Jake's POV I couldn’t help the weight of uncertainty that pressed on me as I made my way through the pack with the werecouncil members. It was already close to dawn but the men were adamant so we still gathered even though it was later than we planned. I just hoped that no one caught us trying to leave the pack. It would be really fatal for me if I got more on Audrey's bad side and she stopped treating me like everyone else but more like Kendrick and Jenni. I trembled throughout the entire ride from the palace until we got to the border of the pack. The guards didn't say anything to us except from wishing us a safe journey as every single one of us were affluent men and soon, we were on the path leading to the imperial city to seek guidance from the Moon Goddess herself. I told Jenni to tell the queen I was ill and on bed rest if she asked of me. I couldn't ask Kendrick to do that as he would ask why I wanted him to cover for me and I didn't want to let him know about what was hap
Kendrick's POV I was so annoyed as I stood in front of Jake trying to convince him to tell me what was happening. Jake ought not to be hiding anything from me right now, things were crazy with Audrey's rule. I felt like I was going mad with anger the moment that Jenni told me that Jake told her to tell Audrey that he was sick and on bed rest. "So... What exactly happened is that... Okay, let me start in a different way. Do you remember when I came with one of the werecouncil members and we requested to see Audrey only for you to say that she was resting?" Jake muttered. "Yes, but how does that relate to what we're talking about?" I fired at him. "It has everything to do with what we're talking about actually." "How about you just get to the main story already?" "So that man called me to the werecouncil meeting they organized," Jake told me and I frowned. "What werecouncil meeting? How could there be a werecouncil meeting and I did not know?" "They organized it without you," he
Audrey's POV I was really angry when I sent a servant to call Kendrick over only to be told that he went out. Even this morning, I called him over and he took so long before coming to answer my call. It was all very infuriating. Now, he had left claiming that he needed to freshen up and eat as he had come straight out of bed to see me. So, I had let him go because I hadn't thought out the errands I needed to assign him. However, I was already growing out of patience as I wanted to see him immediately and tell him to do something, anything. I wanted him to be suffering constantly without any moment of rest. "Maid!" I yelled. "Maid!" "Yes, My Queen," a maid bowed as she ran into my room. "Did you want me to scream my lungs out before you would come here?" I scolded her angrily. "I apologize, My Queen." "Now, I want you to go and bring Kendrick here, immediately!" "I will do that," she replied hurriedly and ran out of the room. She soon returned to tell me that Jenni told her
Kendrick's POV I was very glad to see Audrey looking very pleased as I sang and even more excited when she actually smiled at me when I was done. This was my chance to try apologizing again now that the walls in her mind were down. Maybe I could get her to genuinely listen this time. "Audrey..." I slowly began, wanting to test the waters and when she didn't say anything even though her smile dropped, I knew that I had to speak now. “Is there a way for us to move past this? To find a way and rebuild?” I asked and she turned to look at me. She still didn't say anything so I immediately began proclaiming my remorsefulness. However, she just continued staring at me as I spoke so I kept talking because I didn't know if I was doing enough. She was just looking at me as I spoke with no emotions whatsoever reflecting in her eyes and eventually I became nervous so brought my apologies to a conclusion. "Audrey, what do you think?" I asked when I had stopped for a few minutes but she
Kendrick's POV I felt so drained as I made my way back to my room in the palace, tired of living life this way and bearing the burden of Audrey's anger. It wasn't like I did all that for no reason but after being with her in this period, I had realized that it actually wasn't her fault that she messed up my life. And even if it was her fault, the punishment I gave her was way too much for her offense. Maybe I deserved all this suffering after all, maybe I should take this as karma and stop trying to beg for mercy. As I walked into the room, I met Jenni pacing about the room furiously and despite how I was feeling, I couldn't help but feel slightly worried. “Did something happen?” I asked her. “Nothing in particular,” she replied and made to walk out of the room but I grabbed her arm before she could leave. Jenni had never been the type to give that sort of answer. She always spoke her mind on every single issue and that was probably why bottling whatever she was thinking u
Kendrick's POV I flipped my eyes open feeling groggy and slowly wiped off the sleep in my eyes. Why did I wake up in the middle of the night? There had been a loud sound that roused me from my deep sleep, what was it again? I had momentarily forgotten. I soon began to hear some shouts and voices coming from outside and it was then that my brain finally remembered why I woke up from my sleep. I had been woken up by the sound of the pack's alarm bell. That meant the pack was under attack! I immediately jumped out of bed and began searching for my sword in the room. I found it in a matter of minutes and was about to start leaving the room when Jenni woke up. "What's going on?" "The pack is under attack," I revealed and she hurriedly came down from the bed. "Where did you find your sword?" She inquired, obviously wanting to find hers so I turned back to grab her sword then threw it to her. We both hurried out of the room heading to the area where the noise was coming from a
