Kendrick's POV I was so annoyed as I stood in front of Jake trying to convince him to tell me what was happening. Jake ought not to be hiding anything from me right now, things were crazy with Audrey's rule. I felt like I was going mad with anger the moment that Jenni told me that Jake told her to tell Audrey that he was sick and on bed rest. "So... What exactly happened is that... Okay, let me start in a different way. Do you remember when I came with one of the werecouncil members and we requested to see Audrey only for you to say that she was resting?" Jake muttered. "Yes, but how does that relate to what we're talking about?" I fired at him. "It has everything to do with what we're talking about actually." "How about you just get to the main story already?" "So that man called me to the werecouncil meeting they organized," Jake told me and I frowned. "What werecouncil meeting? How could there be a werecouncil meeting and I did not know?" "They organized it without you," he
Audrey's POV I was really angry when I sent a servant to call Kendrick over only to be told that he went out. Even this morning, I called him over and he took so long before coming to answer my call. It was all very infuriating. Now, he had left claiming that he needed to freshen up and eat as he had come straight out of bed to see me. So, I had let him go because I hadn't thought out the errands I needed to assign him. However, I was already growing out of patience as I wanted to see him immediately and tell him to do something, anything. I wanted him to be suffering constantly without any moment of rest. "Maid!" I yelled. "Maid!" "Yes, My Queen," a maid bowed as she ran into my room. "Did you want me to scream my lungs out before you would come here?" I scolded her angrily. "I apologize, My Queen." "Now, I want you to go and bring Kendrick here, immediately!" "I will do that," she replied hurriedly and ran out of the room. She soon returned to tell me that Jenni told her
Kendrick's POV I was very glad to see Audrey looking very pleased as I sang and even more excited when she actually smiled at me when I was done. This was my chance to try apologizing again now that the walls in her mind were down. Maybe I could get her to genuinely listen this time. "Audrey..." I slowly began, wanting to test the waters and when she didn't say anything even though her smile dropped, I knew that I had to speak now. “Is there a way for us to move past this? To find a way and rebuild?” I asked and she turned to look at me. She still didn't say anything so I immediately began proclaiming my remorsefulness. However, she just continued staring at me as I spoke so I kept talking because I didn't know if I was doing enough. She was just looking at me as I spoke with no emotions whatsoever reflecting in her eyes and eventually I became nervous so brought my apologies to a conclusion. "Audrey, what do you think?" I asked when I had stopped for a few minutes but she
Kendrick's POV I felt so drained as I made my way back to my room in the palace, tired of living life this way and bearing the burden of Audrey's anger. It wasn't like I did all that for no reason but after being with her in this period, I had realized that it actually wasn't her fault that she messed up my life. And even if it was her fault, the punishment I gave her was way too much for her offense. Maybe I deserved all this suffering after all, maybe I should take this as karma and stop trying to beg for mercy. As I walked into the room, I met Jenni pacing about the room furiously and despite how I was feeling, I couldn't help but feel slightly worried. “Did something happen?” I asked her. “Nothing in particular,” she replied and made to walk out of the room but I grabbed her arm before she could leave. Jenni had never been the type to give that sort of answer. She always spoke her mind on every single issue and that was probably why bottling whatever she was thinking u
Kendrick's POV I flipped my eyes open feeling groggy and slowly wiped off the sleep in my eyes. Why did I wake up in the middle of the night? There had been a loud sound that roused me from my deep sleep, what was it again? I had momentarily forgotten. I soon began to hear some shouts and voices coming from outside and it was then that my brain finally remembered why I woke up from my sleep. I had been woken up by the sound of the pack's alarm bell. That meant the pack was under attack! I immediately jumped out of bed and began searching for my sword in the room. I found it in a matter of minutes and was about to start leaving the room when Jenni woke up. "What's going on?" "The pack is under attack," I revealed and she hurriedly came down from the bed. "Where did you find your sword?" She inquired, obviously wanting to find hers so I turned back to grab her sword then threw it to her. We both hurried out of the room heading to the area where the noise was coming from a
Kendrick's POV I rushed after Audrey who was walking away from me on realizing that she was going in the wrong direction and grabbed her hand. "Don't you dare touch me" She snarled as she swerved around in annoyance and dragged her hand out of my grip. "You're going in the wrong direction," I told her and she huffed angrily. Was she really that annoyed about not being led to the fight? Did she really want to prove her strength so much? "Then show me the right way to go, and quickly," she commanded "That was what I was trying to do," I muttered but she only rolled my eyes. "Do it without touching me," she snapped and I began walking ahead to show her the way out of the palace where the battle was. "Are we going to continue walking slowly until the battle ends?" She questioned after a while. "Start running!" She ordered and I obeyed, glad that she also found our pace to be slow. Soon, we were out of the palace and following the battle sounds. We met the fight ongoing at
Audrey's POV I had felt slightly downcast when Kendrick informed me that the pack was under attack as it made the fact that the people didn't see me as their leader so obvious. I was the one who the guards should have alerted first. I ought to be leading the pack to defeat the enemy but no one deemed it fitting to tell me what was happening. I was pretty sure that no one even remembered I existed until Kendrick realized and I was just as certain that he was the one to call me out because everyone else didn't want to approach me. Kendrick probably even only came to wake me up because he wanted my help in battling the enemy and not because he saw me as the leader. Bearing those painful thoughts in mind, I came out of my room with Kendrick and he started leading me through the palace. I wanted to complain that his pace was too slow but didn't want to seem controlling in a situation like this. However, as if reading my mind, he began to increase the pace of his movements and as
Audrey's POV I yawned loudly as I woke up and looked out the window. The sun was presently at its zenith, which meant that I had been sleeping for about five hours or more. Nothing could compare to a good night's sleep though. I frowned at the memory of the battle and even more on remembering that the Alpha of the invading pack had gotten away. He was really smart to have edged away from the hottest parts of the fight. I also felt slightly bad that the people had to experience a battle in their present state all because of me. It would just have to be the price of having me here in their pack. I just hoped that nothing else happened though. That just brought something else to mind. The occurrence of that attack reminded me that I was supposed to have sent my parents to the Lycan kingdom. I needed to arrange for that immediately. "Eric!" I called out and got no response. "Eric!" I repeated but it seemed he was not nearby. I stood up from my bed and immediately went to th
