Chapter Five

Elena's POV:

From where I sat I could hear the conversation going on between my mom and the unknown person that rang the doorbell.

“How may I help you?” My mom asked.

“I am here to see Elena.” The strangely familiar voice replied.

“Who are you? And what business do you have with my daughter?” My mom asked, already annoyed.

“It's me Mason Brown, your son-in-law.”

I guess I wasn't the only one listening to them, I noticed my father's sudden change in expression and the icy aura emanating from Williams.

“Elena!” Mom called out for me.

I was about to get up and attend to my mother when my father told me to sit down. He instructed my mother to bring the young man into the sitting room, clearly wanting to prove to Williams that Mason was lying.

After a minute, my mom entered the sitting room with Mason following closely behind. His bodyguards, who were much bulkier than Williams', took positions next to Williams' bodyguards.

Mason took a seat beside me after my mom sat down next to my dad. “Keep your distance, young man.” My father warned.

“Of course, sir.” Mason replied, scooting away slightly.

What exactly is Mason trying to do? Lying about us being married won't get me out of this mess, especially without any evidence.

“Who are you?” My father asked.

“Mason Brown, CEO of GGI, the world’s largest and most famous bodyguard company. However, the position I'm most honored to announce is being the husband of this beautiful woman beside me.” Mason said, staring deeply at me.

I sat there, confused, seeking answers myself.

“I should take my leave. I came here for a discussion, not drama.” William said, getting up and adjusting his suit sleeves, which had wrinkled as he sat. “Get back to me when this whole drama is over.” He ordered my father.

My dad got up and walked over to him. “You shouldn’t leave like this. Watch me put this fraudster in his place.” My father said, glaring at Mason.

“He is not a fraudster; I know him. That’s why I find this funny, because I doubt such a reputable man would lie. You should question your daughter, she probably hasn’t been telling you everything.” William said, about to make his way to the door.

My dad, desperate to convince Williams to stay, turned to face me. "Start speaking, young lady." he ordered.

“You're going to embarrass us if word gets out. You better start speaking now before things get out of hand,” my mother advised.

“Speak!” my father screamed, and I trembled in fear.

“I cannot believe I canceled an important meeting for this.” William said, fueling my dad's anger even more.

I turned to the nonchalant Mason, who was smiling at the scene before him. “Do something.” I whispered.

I was certain he heard me, but he acted as if he hadn't. My dad walked up to me and grabbed my arms forcefully, about to pull me up, but Mason held me down.

“How dare you?” my father asked, glaring at Mason.

“I have no problem with how you choose to handle your daughter. What I have a problem with is you trying to manhandle my wife.” He said in a cold, ruthless voice.

Mason pulled a brown envelope from his pocket and handed it to my dad.

“I met your daughter a few months ago at the mall. Last month, I decided to take things further. We went to court and legally registered our marriage. This envelope contains a copy of our marriage certificate and a photo we took that very day.” Mason announced.

What is he saying? We only met a few hours ago at the mall. I've never been so confused in my entire life.

My mother abruptly stood up, snatched the envelope from Mason, tore it open, and pulled out the documents inside.

“How is this possible?” She exclaimed as she read through the papers.

“Is it authentic?” My father asked.

“It is.” My mother replied curtly, still in shock.

“What have you done, Elena? Do you have any idea what your foolish actions have caused us?” My mother asked.

“It’s not Elena’s fault, Mother. I told her not to tell anyone until next month when the wedding preparations would be finalized, and we would announce it together. I came here today because I discovered that my wife was about to be sold to some rich man for money.” Mason said.

My father released me, and the envelope and documents fell from my mother's hands. I picked them up and stared at them in shock.

How did Mason forge all this in such a short time? Who the hell is Mason Brown?

“I will be taking my wife with me since her parents are aware of our union. There’s no reason for her to stay here.” Mason added.

“You will do no such thing.” My father scolded.

“Let’s see you or anyone else try to stop me.” Mason threatened, stretching out his hand to me. I looked at his pale palm, then at his tattooed arms and handsome face.

“Come with me, Elly.” He said, making my heart skip a beat with the sweet nickname.

‘Elly, what a sweet nickname.’ I said to myself.

I placed my hand in Mason’s. He pulled me up and made me stand beside him. He bowed before my parents, then walked out of the house with me, his bodyguards following closely behind.

Before we stepped out the door, I heard Williams say. “This was not the agreement we had, Greg. Call your daughter to order, or you both will pay for the embarrassment her nuisance of a boyfriend caused me today.”

Boyfriend? He obviously meant husband.

As Mason and I walked to the front porch, I decided to ask. “How did you find me?”

“It’s not so hard to track someone down, cupcake.” He replied in a flirty voice.
