" - DID YOU HEAR what I said?" Rick's voice cut through my thoughts.

I looked up at him. "What did you say?"

"Pay attention, Anna," He muttered angrily.

"You heard the alpha!" Beth snarled.

I rolled my eyes. "Can you just... repeat what you said,"

"Perhaps we should sit down," Jones said.

Rick nodded curtly and put a hand on my upper arm. He led me into the hospital.

The scent of death hung heavy in the air. Nurses stood around their station with dumb, blank looks on their faces. The head nurse, who had advised me to go home this morning shared a long gaze with me. I nodded at her in assurance as we walked past.

Just three days ago, I had never had a dead patient. Today, there were over 2 dozen of them. What an irony, I chuckled inwardly.

Rick applied a little pressure on my arm. "Somewhere private, perhaps." He said. "Your office?"

"I was hassled here," I muttered, pulling my arm from his grip. "I didn't have the time to grab my key card."
