“Are you being serious right now?” Disbelief was evident in Edmund's voice when he said those words. He even looked around to see if anyone was watching us. We were in a hidden corner here in their kitchen right after he dragged me out of his office so that his servants and the other werewolves wouldn't be able to see me.
I kept my eyes on him. “I am serious, Edmund. I can prove to you that I am not a weakling. I am not just any other she-wolf. I can be the Luna that you want. I can be strong, I can be fearless and fierce.” I made sure that I was able to deliver those words to him with conviction.
He was just looking at me as if he was trying to examine my face and intention. “Are you challenging me, Calla?”
I kept a firm face. I didn’t even blink as I was looking at him. “I will prove you wrong, Edmund. I will prove to you that I can be a better luna. I can be the luna that you want. You cannot just shove me away from this pack that we have been loyal to,” I said firmly. I saw how his eyes went on fire. It was as if he was suppressing his anger with what I said. His jaw clenched before he heaved a sigh and raised a brow.
“Very well, then, please me.” With that, he left me there and went back to his friends.
I shut my eyes firmly. I inhaled a deep breath before opening my eyes and letting out a sigh. I looked around before walking out of there. I kept my head down as I walked back to my house. There, I got my things and clothes ready. This she-wolves challenge was designed by the elder wolves. It won’t be easy for sure, so I needed to be ready for it. It usually has three rounds. Each of them represents a certain skill that a strong she-wolf should have.
The first round is all about channeling our wolves. It will measure how you will be able to control and shift. It will also test how you will be able to use your senses in times of danger. The second round is all about how good you are in using weapons, bow and arrow, swords, any weapon of your choice. The last round will be our combat skills. I am confident that I would be able to pass the first round. I was able to shift when I was thirteen years old, and I must say that I did great in controlling my wolf already. Although I haven’t shifted for a long time now ever since my father died, however, I know in myself that I will be able to control it. After all, my wolf is stronger and more awakened now. That shouldn’t be a problem. For the second round, I will be using a bow and arrow just like what I practiced in archery. I would need to practice more for it. Same goes with the third round. I may be at a disadvantage here, but it won’t stop me. I will win this. I will do well in this game. I cannot just be banished from this pack. I am worthy to be here. I am worthy to be a Luna.
I grabbed my things and hurriedly went out. I walked to our archery room. When I walked in, everyone was busy practicing. I looked around to find a silent space. I walked towards the corner. I placed my things on the floor. I got my bow and arrow and started shooting the target. I heaved a sigh.
I positioned myself and released an arrow. It hit almost the edge. I shook my head and tried again. I lost count on how many times I tried to shoot the target until I finally hit the bullseye. I felt like a pinch of hope sprung in my heart when I saw the arrow on the center of the board. I bit my lip hard as I tried to contain my smile and excitement. I took a deep breath before going to the board to get my arrows. Then I went back to aiming arrows again.
I spend almost half of my morning practicing archery. Others were already out and preparing for later but I didn’t bother joining them. I had at least five rounds of practice in archery before going to another training center for combat. There was no one to practice it so I was left with no choice but to do the stunts with a dummy punching bag. I tried to remember everything that I had during the practice that we had back in the earlier days. I honestly don’t know if I would even win or have a chance for this round, but hell I am determined to win this. I am determined to prove them all wrong.
That afternoon was spent on my combat skills. Come evening, horse before the ceremony and the actual start of the Luna Games, I went to the forest nearby to try to channel my wolf. I stood in the middle of the forest. With my eyes closed, I gave all my concentration to my surroundings. I practiced my breathing before I finally attempted to mental shift. I cleared my mind and started being attentive to my senses. I clenched my fist and took a deep breath again.
I felt the cold wind wrapping around my body. The sound of the rustling branches and leaves became louder and louder. I felt my heart rapidly beating as well. I focused on imagining my wolf face, channeling all my energy. I suddenly felt my body heating up. My heart felt like it was about to burst. I opened my eyes and gasped for breath when I felt like something was about to go out of my body. I shouted in pain as I felt my body being sucked into the abyss of darkness.

I woke up with my face on the ground. I groaned and immediately roamed my eyes around me. Shit. Where am I? My forehead creased. I bit my lip when I felt my headache and I felt memories rushing back to my head. I stared at what was in front of me. It was the river nearby. I looked down only to find the reflection of myself through the clear water.
I made it. I made it here. I smiled to myself. The first round is usually a contest on how a she-wolf will control and command her wolf when she’s shifted. Earlier, I tried to do that and commanded my wolf to be here, and here I am. I did it. I bit my lip and shut my eyes to contain my excitement. I haven’t shifted for years, and it felt so good to finally be able to do that again. I sighed and stood. I immediately looked for something that could cover my whole body before I ran back to the forest. I am gonna do well in this Luna Games. I will do well.
I couldn’t take the smile off my face as I went back to the pack. I didn’t mind the eyes that were scrutinizing me as I walked with only a dirty cloth wrapped around my body. I heard the murmurs around me but I held up my head high and didn’t even bother to look at them. I went straight to my house to bathe and prepare for later. The moment the water touched my body, I felt all the exhaustion from all the things that I did earlier, but I didn’t mind it. My determination was stronger than the tiredness that I was feeling. At exactly ten in the evening, the Luna Games will start. It was around nine when I got out of the house. When I looked around, the place was empty. I bet the wolves are already in the center in front of the alpha’s house. It is where the ceremony will be held.
When I got there, everybody was already cheering. Alpha Edward was holding the hand of his son, and Edmund was standing there proudly.
“The new Alpha of Ravenstone Pack, my son, Edmund!”
The wolves cheered again. Edmund smirked and raised his hands, signaling everyone to keep quiet. He then cleared his throat.
“My proclamation is not the only highlight of tonight’s event because this night, we will be witnessing another Luna Games between the pack’s she-wolves!” The wolves cheered once more. “And also, tonight, you will be meeting your new Luna as I have finally found my mate!”
My eyes widened as I heard the murmurs and gasps around. I thought he was going to say a name after that, but instead, he smirked. “You will meet her after the Luna Games. Now, let those challenges begin!” Edmund’s shout was followed by the sound of the wooden drums maneuvered by some of the werewolves. The cheers became louder as the players went to the center already. I took a deep breath before walking with them as well.
I kept my face stiff as I stood beside Margaux who only raised a brow on me. “Your nerve to join, huh. Get ready to lose, bitch.”
***
Mind Blowing. That’s only one of the words that I could think of to describe the Luna Games. I felt like I was deafen by the combined cheers of the wolves and the smashing of the drums around us. I was catching my breath as I held on to someone to maintain my balance. I heard the cheers become louder.
“Margaux! Margaux! Margaux!” That name echoed in the whole arena. I felt my knees weakening. I tried my best to stand still but my body collapsed and I felt my world spinning already.
The crowd cheered even more when I fell on the ground.
“And the winner of the annual Luna Games is none other than Margaux!”
“Wooh!”
“Margaux! Margaux! Margaux!”
“Second to her is the surprising Calla!”
I felt a hand helping my stand. There were still cheers from the crowd, but it was not as loud as Margaux’s. I composed myself and tried my best to look fine even though I could feel all my wounds aching.
It’s fine, Calla. Your wounds will heal immediately anyway.
“Everyone, I want you to meet your new Luna . . .”
I automatically looked at Edmund’s direction when I heard that. A glimpse of hope rose in me as I turned to him, but it was immediately shattered when I saw Edmund looking at the proud Margaux.
“Margaux will be your new Luna!” Edmund announced with a wide smile on his face. The crowd went wild again and cheered for her while I was shocked and was looking at him in disbelief. Anger overpowered me. I harshly freed my hand from the grip of the man who helped me and marched towards Edmund.
“She’s not your mate! I am your mate, Edmund!” I shouted with all my might. The cheering immediately stopped and everyone’s attention was on me already.
I heard the murmurs and gasps. I also saw how Edmund’s parents were looking at him confusingly.
“Edmund, what is the meaning of this?” the former alpha asked. I stared at Edmund fiercely. He swallowed hard before locking in with my eyes.
“And I reject you. I, Edmund, the Alpha of Ravenstone Pack, reject you, Calla, to be my mate. Even though you did well in the Luna Games, you still didn’t prove yourself enough to be the Luna of this pack. You need to accept it whether you like it or not.” My eyes widened. I gasped hard along with the murmurs and whispers of the crowd.
I felt my eyes watering. Shit. After all the things that I did. After coming into this game. I wasn’t still enough for him!
I couldn’t move. My whole body was shaking.
“What are you waiting for, Calla? Follow your alpha’s command…” A smirking Margaux appeared in front of me. I looked at Edmund and his family. They were looking at me as if they were all waiting for my acceptance.
Wow. These people are the ones whom we have served. We were loyal to them, and now, this is what I get?
“Accept the rejection, Calla. That is an order.” Edmund’s voice thundered. I clenched my fist as anger clouded my whole being. I gritted my teeth as I looked him in the eye.
“I, Calla, accept your rejection.” And with that, I suddenly felt the bond was slowly dissipating. A moment later, I could no longer feel his scent.
Pain and anger. That’s what I felt that night. They banished me. They let me go without hesitation in the middle of that freaking ceremony. I wiped my tears harshly as I ran towards the depth of the forest. I’ve got no clothes, no other things. All I brought was myself.I clenched my hands tight as I stopped and fell down on my knees. All I could see was the tall and big trees surrounding me. The moon was bright and it gave me the light I needed that night. I closed my eyes tight as I wept and howled for my bitter fate. Was this really it? What should I do now? I was alone, and I had no one else to go to.I sobbed hard until I could no longer feel the pain and the anger that I felt earlier. I became numb. I didn’t know how long I was staring at the trees in front of me, but after crying and weeping hard, I just found myself not feeling anything anymore. I closed my eyes and sighed. Slowly, I stood and walked away. I didn’t know where. I didn’t know what was waiting for me. I didn’t ca
Shit. This cannot be! This cannot be! How can I be here?! Oh my gosh! Panic overcame my system as I looked around the pack. It was so different from my previous pack. And the people… oh my gosh… they’re scary! Damn it. “Are you okay?” I almost flinched when I heard the woman say that. I swallowed hard as I took in a deep breath. I tried to smile at her but for some reason, I couldn’t. My heart was thumping so bad that I could barely breathe already. Damn it. I am really at Silverstone! Shit. I looked at the woman again as I heaved a deep breath. “A-Am I in Silverstone?” I wanted to smack myself for even asking that. But hell, I needed to be sure! Her brow shut up and then looked at me from head to toe. “Yeah, why?” Fuck! I almost held my breath. I clutched into my chest and immediately gulped. I stepped back and didn’t even. “Shit,” I said to myself. Damn it. I was panicking inside already. I mean shit, am I really in the turf of the most feared pack in the land?! Who knows
“My apologies, alpha, she’s a bit tactless.” I was still frozen on the ground as I looked at the alpha of Silverstone. I am fucked. Yes, I am fucked. “A weak, but gutsy she-wolf…hmm.”I gulped hard. “You just met her, Jacob. How can you assume?” I heard someone muffled a laugh.I bit my lip even harder. I could feel their stares piercing through me. Shit. I am really so doomed right now!“I can smell her fears,” the Alpha said, which made me avert my gaze away from him. Fuck…“I’ll be responsible for her, Alpha,” I heard Alicia say. She was already beside me. My heart was thumping so hard that I could already hear it beating. I shut my eyes tight as I heaved a sigh. I kept on telling myself that I should apologize now or else, I’ll really be dead. Damn it. I inhaled a deep sigh and looked down.“I-I’m sorry, A-Alpha… I didn’t mean to…” I said, my voice was almost fading as I said those words to him. Damn it. I was so damn scared for my life already. It felt like any moment, he w
“Get the pack healer!” “The pack healer now!” “Fuck!” I couldn’t move from where I was standing. Everyone around me was running and screaming. I couldn’t find Alicia anymore. I felt my surroundings almost swirling as I watched them be in a hurry. I heard someone shout about an attack. Almost all of the pack warriors immediately went to the gate to anticipate the said attack while the others were tending to their alpha. My eyes then bore in the direction where they were taking the alpha. My heart was beating so fast. I couldn’t find Alicia and I didn’t know where to go and what to do. Oh gosh. Everything was so messy. I couldn’t even move. I felt like my whole body just froze upon seeing everyone having their own jobs while I was stuck there, doing nothing. I mean what am I supposed to do?! "Move! Move!" "To the barricade!" "Shit!" I exclaimed when a she-wolf bumped into me. She immediately glared at me before she went back to the flock. I roamed my eyes again, feeling so
“Alpha! Alpha!” The pack healer rushed to him. My eyes were still wide as I was staring at him. My mouth was parted as I was eye-to-eye with the alpha of Silverstone. Damn it. “What happened?!” All of us almost turned around at the same time when we heard that voice. “Alicia!” the pack healer exclaimed and ran to her. “What’s happening? Is he alright?” I heard Alicia say. “I don’t know! The newbie interfered!” I gasped hard and looked at the pack healer. She then looked at me intently. Alicia looked at me, too, as if asking what was wrong. I swallowed hard and avoided her gaze. “What…” I immediately turned to the alpha. My heart was pounding so fast. He was holding my hand tightly. I couldn’t get my hands off him. “Alpha,” Alicia called as she went near us. My heart was pounding so fast as I was looking down. I couldn’t look at Alicia. I didn’t want to look at the alpha, too. Fuck. What did I have gotten myself into? But I was just helping! And if not for me, then he woul
My eyes wandered around this 4 walled room that I was in. I bit my lip hard as I hugged my knees to my chest. I actually don’t know where I was. I felt like I was just floating the whole time I was dragged here. I bit my lip and hugged myself tighter. I was just there on my butt, squatting and leaning against the cold walls of an almost empty room. It honestly looked like a prison cell to me. There was just one bed and a bedside table beside it…and nothing more. It was so empty and white, I felt like anytime I’ll just get sick. I closed my eyes tight as I took a deep breath and calmed myself. Damn it. Why did I end up here again? Oh gosh. If they're going to banish me, for the second time, then I'm gonna be a lone wolf again. And shit, I don't think I could do that. Can I? My heart was beating loudly as I reflected on my future in this pack. Shit. What am I gonna do now? Fear and worries suddenly crept through my whole body as I thought about my lonely and fearful nights the moment
“Congrats.” Alicia winked at me. I barely stopped stacking up my borrowed clothes on the cabinet that she gave me. I gulped hard and bit my lip. “Uhh thanks?” I said. She chuckled and shook her head. “Gosh… you’re funny,” she mumbled. My forehead creased at her. What’s funny with that? I gasped and shook my head. This girl is just weird, huh. I went back to arranging my things again. She was still beside me and helping me fix my clothes. When she was done, she just leaned on the wall beside the cabinet and stared at me. I shook my head and finally closed the cabinet. I sat straight and looked at Alicia who was still leaning on the side with her arms crossed on her chest. I creased my forehead at her. "Yes? You need something else?" I asked her. That's when she let out a chuckle. She shook her head on me. "Huh. You're really something…" she said meaningfully. "What?" I asked, confused. She just smirked at me and shook her head again. “Oh, gosh…you’re so dense. It’s nothing. You
I couldn't look at him. I felt like if our eyes met, I could not control this overwhelming feeling that I have in my chest. I swallowed hard. He was still on his bed while I was standing a few meters away from him. Shit. I couldn't even remember how I got up here. Wow. “So, you know Ravenstone that much, huh…” he said. I arched a brow on him. “What do you mean?” He smirked and shrugged. “I want to know how long you stayed with them.”My forehead creased. “Since birth? I was born there. My parents were pure blooded Ravenstone.”“Where are they now? Why were you banished, then?” I stopped for a moment. He was looking at me intently, while I couldn’t even look in his direction. Damn it. I closed my eyes for a bit before having the courage to speak. “My parents are dead… and I.” I stopped. I don’t know if I should say this. I was scared. What if-"Are you going to speak or what?" I blinked my eyes multiple times. I felt my throat drying up. I swallowed hard. "Uhhh…" I started to spea
I was dumbfounded. The whole time after that freaking meal, I still couldn’t believe what Alpha Jacob said. I wanted to talk to him right after that, but then Alicia made us go back to our chores after and I didn’t know where Jacob went, so I really didn’t have the time and opportunity to talk to him. I sighed and massaged my head again. My mind was haywire. I didn’t know what to do. Was he really serious about that? Why me?! I’m not really convinced that he really liked my dish earlier. It was just unbelievable. I mean, really? Was he kidding me or something? Tsk. It’s annoying. I groaned and shook my head again. “Calla.” I almost jumped on my feet when I heard that voice. I took a deep breath and let out a deep sigh. “What?” I immediately turned around and there I saw Alicia standing with her arms crossed above her chest. “Are you angry?” she asked as her brows raised on me. My eyes widened. I immediately shook my head. “No! No, uhh, yes? What is it?” My heart was beating s
"Good morning."I almost jumped on my feet when I heard that baritone voice. "Good morning, Alpha," I heard the others respond, while I was still calming myself. Shit. I felt my heart wanting to get out of my chest. I swallowed hard. It was early in the morning and here we are in the mansion’s kitchen as we were preparing for the alpha’s breakfast. Heck, I never thought that he would go down here to check on us! I mean, why would he?I was trembling already and I didn’t know what to do with the dish that I was making. For some unknown reason, I got a mental block! I blinked multiple times as I picked up the meat that I was supposed to chop. My eyes widened. Damn it. "Are you okay, Calla?" I heard one of my colleagues ask, which made me even more nervous. I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself so I could focus on no supposed task. I could still feel Jacob's gaze at me. I don't know why but it seemed like he wanted to eat me alive or something. Damn it. I could feel my cheeks
“Hey, do you know how to cook?” My forehead creased at Alicia’s question. “Uhh yeah? Why?”She sighed in relief. “Good, good, then maybe you can cook for the alpha this evening. The omega who’s supposed to cook for him left for an errand in the other town. It might take her until tomorrow before she could come back. Come, let’s go, I’ll show you the kitchen.”I wasn’t able to answer because she immediately dragged me to the mansion. “Hey, hey, what are we doing here?” I asked, starting to become nervous already. Alicia gave out a sigh and placed both of her hands on her waist. She looked at me directly. I bit my lip when I saw how serious she was. “What?” I asked. She gave out a deep sigh again. “Weren’t you listening? I need a cook for Alpha Jacob. Now, can you do it?” I wasn’t able to answer it immediately because I was stunned. “Hey!” I blinked multiple times when she snapped a finger in front of me. “O-Ohh, yeah, yeah!” I bit my lip again as I gave her a sheepish smile.
