Chapter 1

A butler who was in his late sixties ran as fast as he could with his weakening body. He first politely knocked on the door but when he didn't get any response he just barged inside and gasped heavily for air. His eyes searched for his master.

The room was dark the only light coming in the room was through the door which was held open by the butler. The room was filled with smell of cigar, alcohol and sadness.

"I'm here, speak." A man stern voice came from the corner where there was big window his voice was strong but rough probably because of all the alcohol he had consumed in last 50 years.

The butler moved to the direction of the corner from which the voice was coming and left the door open.

Light shined on the man, he was sitting on a big red sofa, his legs long and broad muscular shoulder, his face was good looking with sleek jaw line. Even though there were so many empty alcohol bottles on the floor, the man still looked presentable not at all drunk.

He swirled the glass of brandy in his hand and took a sip. The rough beverage burned down his throat but nothing happened, his throat had become numb like him. A male dragon with no emotions and powers.

"Sir!" The butler exclaimed in joy. "She is here...she is born again in this world for you...just like before."

The man growled angrily. "She was never born for me...not before not now. Do you understand?"

"Yes sir." The butler replied, his gaze stuck at his feet and he didn't dare to look up. "I beg your pardon, sir but she is here now you can have your powers back and-"

The man interrupted the old man. "and WHAT?— how am I supposed take my powers back?- She is an infant. I don't know about you but I'm not a desperate like you and obviously not a rapist."

"I'm sorry, sir-" The butler stammered. "I didn't mean it like that but I'm very happy for you, she is the love of your li—"

"SHUT UP!" The man shouted and threw the glass on the floor, shattering it into hundreds of pieces. After a few minutes of silence. The man took some heavy breaths. Finally after he subdued his anger he relaxed. "How many people know about 'her' birth?"

     "Only you and me, sir."

"Excellent." The man chimed and stood up from the sofa, neatly placed his black blazer on his left arms and walked towards the door. "Make sure no one knows about it, not even my allies."

"Yes, sir." The butler started picking up the broken glass pieces from the ground and asked. "umm...don't mind my intrusion sir but are you going to see her?"

The man turned his head looking directly over to the butler above his shoulder, who had already picked the broken pieces from the ground. "What in the world has possessed me to go there and Mason mind your goddamn business!"

     "I'm sorry sir."

Without acknowledging his butler apology he went outside the mansion, nobody knew where he went except for his butler. His master was going to see the woman he loved for so many years. He loved her so dearly that he gave up his own powers for her and now she was the only one who could return his powers back to him.

His master Drake Creed, one of the most successful business tycoon had been devastated after the death of his beloved woman.

He loved her uncontrollably that was for sure but many people didn't believe it as they said. “If he truly loved her then why did he killed her?”

Even Mason couldn't answer that question. His master was a good person, that was his only response to all there questions.

After his lover died Drake went into a state of darkness where there was no light, no hope to live but he couldn't die at least not yet even how much he wanted to because after giving his powers to his deceased lover he became immortal but with no powers. His punishment for giving up his powers was to live in this mortal without his earthly companion by his side.

Drake looked at the moonless night and spread his dragon wings and flew his way to the hospital, his wings were huge and dark mulberry coloured after losing his powers only his dragon wings were the reminder of his dragon heritage.

In the hospital he recognised the girl who was cooing in her mother arms at first site because he could feel his power inside her. She could barely open her eyes but all the guilt and remorse he held within him for last fifty years was gone and he became overwhelmed with emotion his eyes became watery and he swallowed the big lump down his throat.

Now finally she could live the life she deserved; a normal human life, far away from him.

For at least 3 to 4 weeks Drake kept track on that infant girl, making sure that no one knew about her birth except humans and no danger surrounded her. Soon he understood that the only danger she was open to was because of him. If he kept lurking around her soon his enemies would know about her so he decided to never see her again and let her live her perfect life. Little did he knew that her life was far from simple and perfect.

18 years after...

Emily woke up, it was her eighteenth birthday. Many people lived for this moment to began their early adult life but for Emily it was a emotional roller coaster ride.

She didn't wake up because sun was up or some gently creased her head and whispered gentle words in her ears to wake her up but she woke up because of her parents, they were fighting again.

Emily knew what her father was earning wasn't enough for them but at least he was trying and that wasn't enough for their economy and she was satisfied but not her mother, her mother always needed more and her need for more always destroyed everything.

On her eighteenth birthday, tears dripped down her face as she silently listened to the door, trying her best to not make a sound.

"Why are you even here?" Emily's mother shouted at her father. "Go and drink as much as you like but just leave us alone."

Her father scoffed. "I don't want to come in this hell hole either but I can't help it." He tried hard to stood straight but it was of no use as he was wasted. He tumbled on the floor cursed as loudly as he could.

With so many unfulfilled attempts he finally stood up and left the house in anger.

Emily's mother, Amanda who was on her late thirties saw her husband walked out of the door. That was when Emily came inside the kitchen. "Mom, why would you let him go, he is drunk."

"Let that man go, we are better off him. You know I already filed a divorce."

Emily looked at her mother in disbelief, he was still her mother's husband and her father. She couldn't let him go like this.

So she put on her slippers and ran towards the door to stop him from leaving but as she held the door handle her mother placed her hand on the door making it shut.

"What are you doing?" Emily yelled at her.

"Saving you," Amanda replied. "you don't have to go after him. He'll came back like he always does. I hope he get arrested this time and I never see him again."

Emily jerked off her mother's hand and ran outside. When she didn't find him around she went to the roads.

The roads were silent and she finally saw her father. Relieved, she strolled towards him when suddenly every street light on the roads went off. Emily looked around and panicked but didn't stop moving towards her father.

In the dim light of moon she focused her eyes on the road when suddenly a strong wind gushed around her, her eyes involuntary went shut due to the strong wind and dust and when she opened them again she saw something she was sure of it, a man eyes, not his father's but someone else's.

The man eyes were also locked with hers for a second and again with a strong wind he was gone and so was Emily's father.

Emily couldn't make sense of what just happened, was she being delusional? But how could she be delusional when she knew for sure what she just saw. Ignoring that she again searched for her father in the hope that maybe she was really being delusional and her father might be here but the truth was, he was gone.

Time passed, days became weeks and weeks became months but her father never returned. They also filed missing complain of her father and the police also searched for him for a long time but now everyone had lost hope as if they didn't care anymore because whenever Emily asked about the investigation they had this pitied and sad look that said. How-we-tell-her-that-her-father-is-dead?

Emily even tried to tell them about this man whom she had a little glimpse of but they never found anything because Emily's description was rather vague and to tell the truth she wasn't even sure what did she saw in the streets. Time was passing by and the memories were fading.

Emily cried every single night thinking if she came a little bit earlier she could have saved her father but they were just assumptions but unlike Emily, Amanda moved on pretty quickly with her life. She got married again with the man she was having affair with.

Now as Emily had no money, she had to move with her mother with her new husband's home.

Emily had no grudge against her step father, he had a successful business and he was a windower way before he met her mother. With his first deceased wife he had a daughter named Clara, both Emily and Clara went to the same high school but now they didn't even talk to each other. Emily liked it that way, she denied Clara's presence completely after her mother remarried her father and Clara moved on to other friends but what Emily couldn't decline was her step father was indeed a caring father to her own daughter Clara which her mother never was to her.

Her step father Mr Kevin Hearst had a big enterprises that was nationally acknowledged and he knew the balance between professional life and personal life.

Time moved on so did world and people. Memories started to fade but Emily's didn't. She was stucked in past. Even after years Emily couldn't move on. She didn't know if her father was alive or not but her mother's lack of interest in her father life made her really angry. They now lived in a big house or as Emily called it a five star hotel, Emily had everything that she could ask for but she wasn't satisfied. Mr Hearst was a kind person he never discriminated Emily but he never loved her like his own, maybe because Emily never gave him a chance or she never wanted his affection as even after years since her father absence she couldn't give anyone else the same place in her heart as she had for her father.

What really despaired Emily was she had no idea that her father was even alive or not and it pained her to even think that he might be alive but in the most despicable condition and the only way to find him was to find that man whom she saw that night. Even if people thought she was dreaming and imagining things because of the loss of her father. She didn't care what might cost her to find her father but she would pay any prize for it.
