I hadn't shed a single tear while recovering with Granny Fisher. But the moment I heard Asher's words, I broke down.

It was that warm sense of security only family could bring.

"Asher, I've suffered so much these past months."

Tears rolled down Asher's cheeks too, and he held me tightly, his voice choked with emotion. "Tell me everything. What happened to you?"

I recounted the events of the last two months to him, including how I'd stayed at Granny Fisher's place to recover and had been unable to reach him.

As he listened, his anger grew. His hands trembled uncontrollably. "Those monsters—I'll kill them right now!"

I quickly grabbed his arm. "Please, calm down. I'm alright now."

Asher looked at me intently. "You're not telling me you still have feelings for Charlie, are you? That jerk is the source of all your suffering. Haven't you realized that yet? If it weren't for Charlie, you wouldn't be in this state."
