Edeline
While my best friend Darius was helping me choose a dress for tonight's dinner, I watched each car arrive through my window.
I'm so excited!
My longtime crush, Percival, is returning from his summer training today.
He is our future Alpha, the firstborn son of our pack’s Alpha.
Every future Alpha is supposed to train with other warriors and Alphas during the summer at a different allied pack. They do this to develop into formidable leaders and master all the techniques needed to become warriors, elevating them to the rank of Alpha.
A year after his first shift, at the age of eighteen, he started taking summer vacations. In their first year of training, future Alphas spend time with their own pack, picking up tips from their own Alpha. This was his third training year. There was just one year left before he would be deemed qualified to succeed his father, the current Alpha, should anything happen to him.
With just words, I declared him to be my mate.
I'm saying...
Though not to brag, we have been family friends since the beginning of time. We are still not mates. As the sole child of our pack's beta, it is fated that the Alpha's firstborn and the beta's firstborn will be together. Everyone is aware of it.
There are two powerful bloodlines that indicate robust heirs in the future, so now is the time to celebrate.
"What about this one?" he inquired, reaching into my closet to get a red sundress.
Despite my eyes being fixed on the window to see if Percival had arrived yet, I replied, "Looks good."
I heard Darius sigh, and before my hands could catch it, a dress pelted me in the face. "Darius, what the hell is wrong with you?!"
"I’m sure, Edeline, my brother will be at the dinner this evening." Rolling his nearly brotherly sky-blue eyes, he said, "You don't have to guard your window and wait for him to arrive."
I was staring at this tall man, Percival's younger brother and my best friend since I was a little child. Darius protected me as if he were my own brother at all times. Even though Darius and I were best friends, even at such a young age, I had always had a thing for his brother.
His fingers snapped in front of my face, and I snapped right back to reality. "Edeline, are you genuinely falling in love with me?"
"Not a chance!" I rolled my eyes as I spoke.
"Oh, please, hurry up. I am far more attractive than Percival, your wolf will eventually develop a craving for my hot body," he declared with pride.
"Darius, stop being so ridiculous," I said, clutching the dress to my body as I turned to go change in the bathroom.
I have been anticipating this day for a long time. I get even more excited when I hear my parents and Percival's parents discussing their plans for me and Percival's future.
All I can hope is that he feels the same way about me.
Darius whistled softly as I emerged from the restroom, wearing the dress he had picked out and my hair loose and curled. "You look so pretty in a dress. It's my top choice." He wrinkled his nose and cocked his head to one side. "You know what? Upon closer inspection, I believe it might be too short… What do you think?" He was evaluating me analytically. His big brother's ego had taken over.
I slipped on my sandals, rolling my eyes. "You chose this, moron. I'm not changing, and it's quicker to shift out of a dress. Come on, let's go." In my heart, I was relieved that he thought this dress was too short. That means that, in Percival's perspective, it would be far too short.
I like it!
He took my hand and dragged me down the hall and out of my room. Upon arriving at the front yard with Darius, I observed his brother, who had grown in size, getting out of the truck. He appeared good, having gained a lot of muscle during his training this summer.
The world began to tilt on its axis as it hit me.
His aroma.
It was euphoric, causing my inner wolf to go crazy, growling and scratching at my thoughts. My heart began to race, and I knew instantly.
He looked around the crowd, his head snapping up and his eyes wide with recognition. It was like fireworks going off on the Fourth of July when his sky-blue eyes locked onto my grass-green ones.
His face twisted in shock, mirroring the turmoil raging inside me. How the hell could it be that we shared blood, grew up together, and never knew we were mates? Apart from my secret desire for him, there were no damn clues.
Then, a smirk crept onto his lips, and I found myself mirroring it. How the hell did I get so lucky to find my mate in him, especially someone I already knew, someone from my own damn pack, someone with shared memories?
He looked content, and that pleased the hell out of me.
All noise faded, leaving just us, staring into each other's eyes, drowning in a whirlpool of emotions. Warm, electric currents tingles through my fingertips, shooting up my spine. It felt like I was swimming in a sea of euphoria. He'd make an incredible partner.
A sudden bang on the passenger door jolted us back to reality. A tall, lean blonde figure appeared, her brown eyes scanning the scene. I glanced between him and her, then back again. His smile vanished, replaced by a look of worry and fear.
That was the moment I sensed something off about her, though I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
"Percival," she asked, gently reaching out to Percival's arm, "is it already time to go inside? It’s kinda cold out here." She shivered slightly. "It's not good for the baby, and I'm too tired."
EdelineI must have heard it wrong. Percival got another she-wolf pregnant? Bullshit. That’s not possible, and besides, she's not even part of our pack.A few wolves murmured, asking if the female was his mate, but no one dared say a word. I walked up to him, closing the space between us, his scent wrapping around me like a vice.“Pe-Percival… Finally, I found my mate,” I mumbled. My adrenaline is rushing like a surge of happiness within my body. I wondered if he felt the same. He had to. He smiled at me, a reaction that confirmed it. He knew what I meant to him. He had to.But then his smile vanished quickly when suddenly the blonde she-wolf held him in his arms.“Who is she?” he said in a haughty tone. His once happy expression was now etched with tension. His clenched fists and tight jaw betrayed his feelings, and his bright blue eyes avoided mine, a clear sign of distress.“I have to talk to her first…” Percival said and was about to walk at me when the blonde stopped him, raisin
EdelinePercival, my mate. He was my everything, but now he's starting his future with someone else.I snapped back to reality as Darius snapped his fingers in my face. "Edeline! Are you okay?"I tried to shake off the awful feeling inside as my stomach tightened. "Yeah. Yeah. Of course. Sorry. I was just trying to remember what he told me. He said he was sorry, but he had to do the right thing. That's all." The last word came out in a whisper.I felt like I was tearing apart inside and couldn't keep it all in for much longer.Darius's anger flared as he looked out at the water. "That asshole! I'm going to kill him," he growled.I couldn't fully blame my mate, except he should've stayed loyal. A female's heat is something no male can resist, and that night I found my mate and had my heart shattered in minutes. He told me the blonde she-wolf had been tempting him. He couldn't resist.Darius's intense gaze returned to me, focused and hard. "You gotta talk to him. Alone. Ask him what he'
EdelineAfter breakfast, Darius and I took a chill walk along a peaceful river that ran through the woods next to the Packhouse. The morning sun sparkled on the water, and the gentle flow made everything feel super relaxing. We chatted about the usual stuff—pack plans, upcoming events, and a bit of gossip. The conversation was easy, and I felt totally comfortable with Darius.Eventually, we reached a quiet spot by the river where the trees cleared, giving us a stunning view of the cliffs overlooking our territory. Darius paused, looked at me thoughtfully, and said, "I’ve got to head to training soon. I’ll be done in about two hours. Feel free to stick around here, explore, or shift if you want. Just don’t go back to your room, hmm? We can run together later. I promise."He gave me a friendly smile and ruffled my hair before heading back along the river. I watched him go, smiling to myself. The peaceful spot was perfect for some alone time. I settled by the river, dipped my fingers in
Edeline"You won’t?" That single question gave me a glimmer of hope, though it felt too late for that.He shook his head slowly. The way his skin shimmered was messing with my head, making me think I might have a chance with him. But I wouldn’t if another woman was involved.“She’s staying with the Oracle at the cabin with my parents. I’m holed up in a house across the lake that’s not being used. I didn’t want her staying with me because of her wolf, and my dad thought it’d be best if I stayed away from you for now. Being across the lake helps because your scent isn’t always around.”I stared at him in shock. I’d thought she’d be with him. They seemed like they were trying to be a family, like we should have been. Then it hit me.“You’re staying away so your wolf won’t be tempted to mark me, and vice versa?” I raised an eyebrow, feeling a mix of anger and relief. He helped me, but he also broke my heart. The news pissed off my wolf but made me happy in a weird way. I didn’t want to be
EdelineI couldn’t shake off the guilt that was eating at me. The thought of the baby—so tiny and innocent—caught in all this mess was really getting to me. What was going to happen if things didn’t work out? It weighed heavily on my mind, mixing with my own pain and confusion.“Percival... What’s going to happen when the baby arrives?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady. He didn’t have a clear answer. The way he breathed out warmed my skin, making it tingle. The sunlight filtering through the leaves made his eyes look even more tired and lost. He seemed so young and worn out at that moment.“She’ll have to take care of the baby while he’s little. I haven’t figured everything out yet, but it seems like the right thing to do,” he said, sounding defeated as he ran his hand through his tousled hair.“Where?” I asked. “I’m not sure. But I have to stay here because I’m going to be the next Alpha. She’ll never be my Luna. Since she’s her dad’s only child, our baby would inherit his la
Edeline I closed my eyes, letting the gentle breeze wrap around me. It was a calming embrace from nature, a quiet moment of peace.I pictured his face in my mind, every detail vivid. Even from a young age, there’d always been this connection between us, a bond I couldn’t ignore. The conversation I’d just had with Percival left me feeling overwhelmed. My mind was a whirlwind of questions, and the weight of my own destiny felt almost too heavy to bear. With that in mind, I figured it was time for my second shift ever.My wolf was getting pretty antsy in the back of my mind, just dying to let loose all that built-up energy. When I saw Tatiana and heard her harsh words, it really got to me. She couldn't get enough of hunting down that pregnant she-wolf and getting back at us, just like before. But I wasn't going to let that happen. It was challenging, but I managed to control my wolf and give her some space to let loose and relax.Percival’s words, though, offered a sliver of hope.“I wo
EdelineShifting always came with a twinge of discomfort at first. My body had to adjust to the realignment of bones and muscles, molding into a different shape. “It’s always a bit painful at first,” I thought, feeling the familiar ache. “But after a few more shifts, it’ll be nothing.”Right after the shift, I lay on the cool grass, feeling the earth beneath me as I gazed out at the world through the eyes of my white fur. Everything felt sharper, more vivid, as if I were seeing it for the first time. But before I could fully take it in, my wolf surged forward without warning, knocking me back in the process. Her energy was wild, almost overwhelming, like a storm barely contained. I could feel her power, restless and eager, threatening to overtake me. I forced myself to stay grounded, to hold onto the center of our shared consciousness, even as she strained against my control. "I can't give her too much freedom," I reminded myself, the thought pressing down on me. "Who knows what she'l
EdelineAfter a while, we shifted back to our human forms. Transitioning from wolf to human is actually smoother than the reverse shift, so I managed to stay quiet this time, avoiding any loud outbursts. Wolves don’t pay much attention to each other’s nudity; it’s a norm for us. Only a mate would react, and Darius wasn’t that.We dressed quickly, and he took my hand, guiding me down the hill through the forest towards the pack house. His voice was soft, almost a whisper amidst the crunch of the forest floor beneath our feet. “So, I heard you had a chat with Percival… He paid you a visit?”I simply nodded. He gave me a look that seemed to say, Keep going.I sighed in frustration, knowing he wouldn’t let it go. “He said he wouldn’t mark her.”“Huh?” Darius’s surprise was evident. He hadn’t realized that detail. As we continued our walk, I filled him in. “Yeah, he’s giving you the whole story. Apparently, she didn’t even know her heat was coming and he couldn’t sense it. Classic mistake
EdelineI sighed deeply, my hand trembling as I reached up to turn off the water. As I struggled to stand, I wobbled a bit, my body weak from not eating. My thoughts felt fuzzy, my head was light. A tingling sensation spread through me, like I was about to pass out.I needed to get a grip and pull myself together.I looked down at my body—my stomach was sunken, my ribs sticking out. My breasts seemed smaller, too. I felt like I was disappearing. How could he still find me attractive?...After finally managing to get out and dry off, I dressed with a lot of effort, trying not to fall over. I felt completely wiped out, each small task draining my energy. I put on a pair of cut-off jean shorts and a snug red tee, letting my hair dry in loose curls. Sliding into my Converse sneakers, I trudged out of my room and headed to my parents' house. I needed to find my brother and be there for him. He needed me now.Even though we're not that close in age, our bond is strong. I get what he's goin
EdelineI turned to him, curiosity bubbling up. “How did we end up here?”He gestured to the trees above us, where a canoe was cleverly camouflaged behind the brush. We helped him get it down, and after a bit of maneuvering, we plopped it into the water and hopped in. As we rowed towards the pack lands, the rhythm of our paddles synchronized effortlessly. I marveled at how he managed to get us here alone last night—it must have been quite a feat.I watched his muscles flex with each stroke, and my gaze lingered on his skin, which made me shiver. I quickly looked away, focusing instead on the task at hand. But then a thought struck me.“Hey, Percival, how’s Tatiana Nixx’s mate doing? I heard her father is an alpha.”He shrugged casually, letting out a relaxed breath. “I’m not sure... I need to talk to my dad about it. There might be some things that either she or her father isn’t telling us. Maybe he was part of the pack and beat the previous alpha in a challenge to become the new alph
EdelineFrom behind me, his voice came closer, tense with a hint of amusement. “I can tell when you’re checking me out. It’s like a jolt of electricity every time your eyes find me.”“What got you all excited?” I asked, trying to keep my tone light.I turned around, my canines retreating back into my gums. I looked up at him, meeting his bright blue eyes. “Wow, your back looks pretty bad. I’m really sorry.”He chuckled and grinned. “Yeah, I’m into them. Seriously, I can vouch for their existence.”I ducked back under the water, washing away his scent and the soap from my body. As I popped back up and made my way to the shore, I climbed out and heard him call out.“Hey Edeline, there’s something I need to tell you...”I turned and held my hand up, cutting him off. “No worries, Percival. No need to go into detail. I get it, we messed up. We should keep our distance,” I said, avoiding eye contact.“Wait, hold on a sec. Edeline, I really don’t want to be apart from you. It’s not like you
Edeline“But I don’t regret it,” he added, his voice genuine. He wasn’t apologizing for what had happened. There was something commendable about how he let his wolf emerge so freely, even if it meant losing some control. He leaned back and reached for a backpack, unzipping it and pulling out a tissue. With careful precision, he wiped away his excitement from my stomach and wrapped it in a plastic bag, likely to bury it and keep it hidden from any curious wolves who might stumble upon it and catch our scent. If you’re picking this up from my personal chapters book, this is where you should continue.“I need to put some clothes on,” I said, attempting to stand up, but he stopped me with a gentle hand.“Hold on. Before you head back to the pack house, we should jump in the water. Check this out.” He handed me a bottle of body wash. The scent was nothing extraordinary, which made me wonder if Tatiana had been around recently.“Has she been here?” I asked, curiosity getting the better of m
EdelineA soft growl escaped me as our lips met, my fingers tangling in his hair and reveling in its silky texture. I tilted my head slightly, offering myself to him completely, inviting him to explore every part of me. His hand tenderly cupped my jaw, his thumb resting gently on my cheek while his fingers splayed out behind my ear. His touch was gentle yet firm, his wolf’s friendly demeanor coming through in his careful caress. He playfully nibbled on my lower lip before diving back into a deep, passionate kiss. An overwhelming wave of pleasure coursed through me, urging me to push up into him, moving in rhythm with his intensity. It was a kiss that left me breathless, and the air was thick with his mating hormones. He was leaving his scent all over me, marking me in a uniquely intimate way. The low growls slipping from his mouth had my wolf stirring with excitement, her own growls mingling with his.He pressed firmly against the delicate fabric between my legs, which was already dam
EdelineI let out a deep sigh, feeling more at ease than I had in ages. It was as if my heart was finally taking a break from trying to escape my chest. We eased back, settling into a calm silence. The incredible sensations he stirred within me left me feeling deeply relaxed, my muscles unwinding with each touch. I truly enjoyed how his touch electrified me.I could feel his warm breath brushing softly against the back of my neck. He was both pushing himself and relaxing, the contradiction making the moment all the more intense. His nuzzling against the side of my neck sent shivers down my spine. I tilted my head slightly, inviting him in closer, while my teeth dug into my bottom lip, a reflex to the growing excitement. As soon as his nose brushed against my skin, his lips followed in a tender, deliberate motion. I took my time, pressing my lips gently against the sensitive spot he was exploring. His tongue flicked out, savoring the taste of my skin, and his teeth came out for a playf
Edeline“No way, that’s not possible,” he shouted, his voice filled with disbelief. “She’s an Alpha’s daughter. Her mate would have to be an Alpha.”My legs trembled uncontrollably, my knees feeling like they might buckle beneath me. Days of hunger had left me weak, my strength sapped. I felt as if I might collapse at any moment. Just before I hit the ground, strong arms caught me. I didn’t even need to look up to know who it was; I could feel the electric warmth of their presence coursing through me.I felt like a cosmic joke, the Moon herself playing tricks on me. Each heartbreak seemed like a cruel twist of the knife, making me question if I would ever find peace. If the Moon was handing out favors, I wished she’d let me leave this place behind, take me somewhere I could find some respite. The Moon certainly had a twisted sense of humor.Tatiana was Nixx’s partner, yet he wasn’t exactly the dominant type. It was an ironic twist, given the way the situation had unfolded....Edeline
EdelineI shook my head in disbelief, feeling uneasy. “Sure, no problem. I’ll be okay, don’t worry.”“No!” Nixx’s sharp response made me flinch. “That’s not right. He shouldn’t have control over you like this. Alpha William should know better. I’m going to confront Percival if he doesn’t lift that ban,” he growled.I shifted uncomfortably, trying to defuse the tension. “Sure, sure, but can we just... try to have a good time at the party first?” I looked up at him with wide, pleading eyes, hoping he would leave the issue alone for now. After taking a quick look at my face, Nixx gave me a brief nod, clearly not thrilled but willing to go along with it. For now, we’d just have to pretend everything was perfectly fine.He guided me toward the bonfire, where single females nearby exchanged smiles and vied for his attention. Nixx barely glanced their way. One woman, with a playful flutter of her eyelashes, approached us, her hand resting lightly on his shoulder.“Hey, Nixx! It’s great to se
EdelineI looked down at his shoes, my voice trembling. “I just wanted you to enjoy your party before you found out,” I said, crying. My heart felt shattered, the broken pieces digging deeper into me. I wanted to escape, as if I didn’t belong here.We embraced tightly, finding solace in each other’s arms. Nixx placed a gentle kiss on my hair, his voice a soft rumble as he tried to comfort me.“So, what’s the plan?” His breath tickled my ear as he whispered, making sure no one else caught wind of our conversation.I leaned in, drawing in a deep breath of his familiar scent. It wrapped around me like a comforting blanket. “Just let it be. It’s not his fault. He didn’t know her anger was about to explode. He couldn’t sense it. I’m not sure what’s going to happen... But for now, let’s hold off on taking any action, okay?” My voice was weak, barely above a whisper. I felt drained, my energy ebbing away.“Alright, Edeline. Just tell me what you want, and we can handle it. I’ve got your back
