A Work Offer

Emma’s POV

The groom waved a hand over my face, I blinked rapidly by the act.

I was too shook to say anything,

I knew I had to say something.

“Hello,” I replied briefly, turning away from him.

The groom looked confused,

“Okay, I guess I'd leave you two alone to go be with my bride. Thank you again for the wonderful event.”

I almost screamed no, I didn't want to be left with Jason, he still had his annoying, yet alluring smile plastered over his face.

“You look beautiful.”

He was still smiling.

I chide myself silently, it was pointless acting meek in front of Jason, I put on my cold face.

“Is that all you have to say after four years?”

He wasn't moved by the harshness in my voice.

“Is that all you have to say to me, after helping you get such a wonderful job.”

“What are you talking about?” I asked in surprise.

He was still as mean as ever.

“In case you don't know, I told my cousin to reach out to you, I also sent the dress you are wearing.” His eyes went down to the top of my cleavage which was a little bit exposed..

My eyes flashed red, here I was thinking that the groom reached out to me for my potentials, the smudge smile on Jason's face only infuriated me the more.

Without thinking, I raised my hand and landed him a stinging slap on the right side of his face, all eyes turned towards us in that instant, I didn't even bother to look at them as I gathered my dress in hand, and stormed towards the exit.

I just prayed that would be the last time I saw him.

Anna was surprised to see me return earlier than I expected.

I took off the gown, almost ripping it off.

“Easy, that gown is really expensive.” Anna helped with the zipper at the back

“I don't give a damn.”

“Okay, what's going on?” Anna asked, confused. She knew I was never one to use swear words just because I was angry.

I told her everything that happened including the slap I gave Jason.

All she could say was.

“He had it coming.”

After a moment of silence when I allowed my steam to cook off, I became worried.

“Do you think this would affect my chances at getting called for other jobs?”

“No, besides, you went as a guest, no one would think you are the event planner.”

Anna’s reply consoled me a bit.

I screamed loudly, pulling at my hair

“The nerve of him.”

I was still upset.

“Try to forget him girl, he isn't worth it, plus it would be best to avoid him. Jason Micheal is nothing but trouble.”

“I wonder what he wants after all these years.” I asked loudly,

“There's no need for that, just steer clear from him.”

I noticed the warning time in Anna’s voice.

She was looking out for me.

I tried to forget all about my encounter with Jason.

Irene called to let me know that the event went well, and she was able to meet with a few persons who showed interest in putting their events in our care.

That was good enough news to let me sleep well for the night.

I went to my office, with yesterday's event behind me, and my team was also excited.

Irene was nowhere in sight, I guessed she stepped out a bit.

I opened my door only to find Jason Micheal in my office, on my seat.

“What do you think you are doing?” I asked, my tone, aggressive.

He played with the pen on my table, not paying me any attention. Then he looked up like he just noticed me.

“What boss arrives late to her own office, how unprofessional.”

I closed the door, so the rest of my staff wouldn't hear me shouting.

“You are on my chair, and how did you get here in the first place?.”

“We didn't get to talk yesterday.” He avoided my question.

“Stand up now!” I shouted, my chest was heaving, he seemed to be enjoying the discomfort he was causing.

“Alright, I can see you are still as feisty as ever.”

“You don't know anything about me.”

“That's not a nice thing to say, since you are the one who has been so rude after our little reunion.”

I didn't want to indulge him in any conversation. So I opened the door for him to leave.

His eyes looked sullen as he made for the door, his next action took me by surprise.

He backed the door, and turned the keys, tucking it in his great pocket. Fear seized me.

“What do you want?” I asked, trying to maintain a brave face.

“Just give me a chance to talk to Emma.”

I backed towards the table until my leg hit the wood.

“Come any closer, and I'll shout.” I threatened.

That made him stop, he went back and opened the door.

“Look, I didn't come here for trouble.”

“Then what are you here for?”

Jason's face relaxed.

“Can we sit first,”

I complied with his request.

“I don't have the luxury of time for your pranks Jason, do get on with it.”

He smiled.

“I like it when you are angry,”

I raised a brow to indicate I was dead serious, and his smile faltered.

“Look, after the way you made my cousin's wedding a blast, I have a job offer for you.”

“What makes you think I will want to work with you?.”

“For recognition, I know you don't have much promotion for your business, but you're clearly the best in the game.”

“What is it about?.”

“The biggest tech event of the year, and I want you to plan it for me.”

“What's your offer?” I managed to sound professional.

His smile came back.

He brought out something from his pocket, and slid it to me, I just hoped it wasn't anything crazy.

I peered into it, it was a cheque.

“What is this?” I shouted in shock.
