Jason’s POV
I still can't believe how drawn I remain to Emma Wilson after four years, I haven't seen her physically since I broke up with her, but I made sure to keep tabs on her. The best way I knew how to waltz into her life again was through Ivan's wedding, and it worked just as I planned. Her stunning figure, and small lips never ceases to amaze me. The only thing I felt bad about was the slap, which I deserved. I just hoped she would accept my offer. Emma's pride has always been her stubborn personality, and I know too well that she might turn down my offer. So I was very surprised when I received her call, I restrained myself from celebrating yet, she might not be calling for the job offer. I picked it earnestly. “If it isn't Emma Wilson, how may I be of help to you.” “I am willing to pick you up on your offer.” She was brief and business like, not the way I wanted, but a good start. I was silent, I had to think of a way to get her close to me. “Why don't we discuss our agreement in a more comfortable place, my office tomorrow at ten?” I crossed my fingers, praying silently that she won't turn me down. “Send me the address,” and she hung up. I could understand her anger, but that would soon be a thing of the past once she starts working with me. *** The next day in my office I waited in anticipation for her to show up, I kept glancing at the time, ten in the morning seemed a bit late, I should have made it right. Knowing Emma, she might sense a trap with the time, so ten was the best. Exactly ten, my secretary led her in, even the plain cream chiffon shirt, and black skirt could not hide her stunning figure. Her hair was pinned in a ponytail revealing her long neck, I wished I could just yank at the rubber band of her hair, so her curls could fall on her shoulders, just like in college. She sat with her nose in the air, she could be really professional when she wants to be. “I am here now, let's get on with it.” “Won't you like some snacks, and tea for the morning.” I offered. “No, I am all good, I just want to sign the agreement, then return to my office.” “Relax Emma, for old times sake just ease up a little.” “You don't get to old time sake, Jason. Let's not go down that road.” She said, a slight frown forming her pretty face. I felt bad instantly, I was opening old wounds, which was not my intention. “Before we go any further, I'll just like to be clear on some things first.” I didn't expect her to say that, but I gave her the go ahead nod. “Just so we know, this work of ours will be strictly professional. I won't entertain any sort of monkey business from you.” I gave a little chuckle, which made her raise her brows. I comforted myself, even after four years of being apart, I knew what the look meant. She continued. “I'll also like you to know that I work with my staff alone, no external workforce unless necessary.” “Got it,” I smiled. “Now, will you have the snacks, please? Just some cookies and tea.” I begged. “I will have some, after we've signed the agreement.” She insisted. “So professional.” I muttered under my breath. “I heard that,” she said. I called in Cordelia, my secretary, she brought in the documents, and I told her to get the snacks. Emma reviewed the documents before signing. “I see you don't trust me, you had to read through it first.” “As I do with all my clients, it's not about trust alone, it's normal procedure.” She handed me the file, which I also signed before keeping it in my drawer. “Your snacks have arrived.” I announced as Cordelia returned with a little tray in hand. I watched closely as Emma picked a cookie in between her well manicured fingers, her mouth opened just a bit to nib into the cookie, crumbs of it staining her lips, glued to her lip gloss. The single act alone was sexy, and I couldn't take my eyes off her. She repeated the process on another cookie, her eyes out the window. When she noticed that I was staring, she dropped the remaining half of the cookie, wiped her mouth with her thumb and then stood up. “I have to go now,” she said briskly. I knew I made her uncomfortable with my gaze. “You haven't finished your snack.” “I am quite full,” she patted her tummy. I didn't want her to leave so soon. “How about the tea, you didn't even touch it.” I could see that she was already getting frustrated with me talking, so I gave her a look I knew she wouldn't turn down. She picked the cup, and drank the tea at a go. “There,” she dropped it noisily on the saucer. She made for the door, and I unashamedly went after her. “Emma, wait, when will you begin?” “It's my job, and I know how to go about it. If I need anything, I'll let you know through your secretary.” She snubbed. I circled her hands around the knob, she didn't yank it away like she did at the office, I was encouraged to close the little gap between us. I stare down at her inviting lips, which were slightly parted, revealing short snow white teeth. Slowly, my head went down, ready to capture her mouth in a kiss, when she turned her face, and my lips met her cheek instead. I closed my eyes, ready for what was coming, then I felt the stinging pain and palm against my cheek.Emma’s POVThe city of New York bustled with people as I watched from the high rise building. It was almost mid morning, and the streets were as busy as ever.I rolled my eyes for the umpteenth time as I listened to Marcus, my date, speak about his achievements. I was already getting bored with his incessant talking. The only good thing about this date was the location“That was how I got promoted to the position of assistant Manager. What do you think?” The pride in his voice is evident in the tone.“I think that's just fantastic, you must really work hard to have achieved a lot in such a short time,” I tried to flow with his topic.“maybe we can,”I didn't get the chance to finish before he interrupted me again.“I am aiming for the position of manager soon,” he continued. His voice became distant as I cupped my cheeks, and placed my elbows on the table. I groaned inwardly“This was going to be a long morning,”This has been my lot for the last four years, I am a successful event pl
Emma’s POVThe look Irene had on her face was one of confusion, as she waited in anticipation for me to tell what was going on.“You would not believe this!” I exclaimed, still reeling from excitement.“We just got an offer to plan the senator's nephew's wedding.”“No way!” Irene shouted.“That's like the biggest event to ever come across us.”“I know right,” then I paused.“Come to think of it, how is it possible that we got selected to carry out this event? I mean there are lots of planners out there, most of them more qualified than I am.”Irene was not into any of that.“Now is not the time to think, Emma, we should be on our feet planning the biggest event of the year.”I exhaled happily,“You are right, get the team ready, we have a lot of work to do, I am so happy, with this, we will be recognized in the country. What a good way to compensate me for having a bad date.”I had everyone in my office work round the clock, this was a challenge for me, the biggest challenge I have ev
Emma’s POVThe groom waved a hand over my face, I blinked rapidly by the act.I was too shook to say anything,I knew I had to say something.“Hello,” I replied briefly, turning away from him.The groom looked confused,“Okay, I guess I'd leave you two alone to go be with my bride. Thank you again for the wonderful event.”I almost screamed no, I didn't want to be left with Jason, he still had his annoying, yet alluring smile plastered over his face.“You look beautiful.”He was still smiling.I chide myself silently, it was pointless acting meek in front of Jason, I put on my cold face.“Is that all you have to say after four years?”He wasn't moved by the harshness in my voice.“Is that all you have to say to me, after helping you get such a wonderful job.”“What are you talking about?” I asked in surprise. He was still as mean as ever.“In case you don't know, I told my cousin to reach out to you, I also sent the dress you are wearing.” His eyes went down to the top of my cleavage
Emma’s POV“A blank cheque, are you out of your mind?” I shouted at him, slipping him back the cheque.Whatever game he is up to, I am not just willing to play.“Come on Emma, your work deserves good pay, this is for you to write whatever you want, any amount, and it's all yours.”I slapped my hands on the table,“I am not some charity case Jason, and I don't need you to rise up the social ladder. I can see you already do well for yourself, there is no need to flaunt it in my face, I am not interested.”He gave a sigh.“I only propose an opportunity, but I see you haven't changed much. Still proud, instead of making a name on your price, which I know you wouldn't. How about I give you five million dollars for the job, excluding whatever expenses might accrue.”I almost jumped out of my chair at the mention of such an incredulous amount that's over twice of what I got from the wedding. It was really tempting, but I didn't want to appear so desperate. It was indeed a huge offer I couldn'
